We had a large hickory tree that was dangerously split and half toppled that needed to be removed immediately. Matt with Goodfellers Tree Service provided a competitive quote that was significantly lower than others we received, and was able to schedule the work within a few days versus weeks. The work was completed quickly, efficiently, competently and thoroughly. Matt even offered to trim back damaged branches on a few other trees that occurred when the hickory partially toppled. We will use Goodfellers Tree Service again and I highly recommend Goodfellers Tree Service for any tree service work.

We purchased a new home and needed an area of brush, stumps and small trees cleared asap so fencing could go in immediately. Not only did Goodfellers respond with an estimate immediately, the work was thoroughly explained, planned and executed in almost no time. My wife and I had a tree fall on our home during the recent winter storm. Matt from Goodfellers came to my home to assess what needed to be done to safely remove the tree and avoid further damage. When he arrived to complete the job he was very professional, and completed all of the necessary work quicker than expected at a great price! I would highly recommend Goodfellers for any of your tree service needs.

They do a great job at removing trees.

And an even better job of ghosting you for weeks when it comes to removing the stump left behind even though they tell you they will come back and grind it down.

They give a date, never arrive, never call, and a few days later when pressed give an entirely new date you both know they wont show for.

So if you want a tree removal company that will do half a job well, and screw off for the rest of it, this is the one for you.

These guys were great. Good communication. Had a tree taken down and branches trimmed back from the house. Cleaned up so well it looked like they hadn’t even been there. Highly recommend

Twice this service blocked a road and was told by the city that he had to pull a permit but refused and mouthed off at the city. The cops came out and then he did it again the very next day. He refused to remove the tree from the property and piled neighbors trees with ours creating a huge pile of trees. Before the job was finished he decided to go on vacation leaving his equipment in our yard along with debris piles. Would not hire again. Very unreliable. We've been trying to reach him and now he doesn't answer his phone or respond. The last picture is he how he left our yard. The city is in the process of filing charges and his trucks are still sitting in my yard along with all the other trees he took down and my insurance actually DID tell them that they would pay for the tree removal. As of date he is being charged $500 a day to store his equipment in the yard and that money is being deducted from his final check for the removal. He also had his daughter on my roof which was highly unstable looking into the roof when I came home.

Matt did an excellent job pruning our Japanese maple tree. The tree looks beautiful and as he said, "It can now breathe." If you want professional arborists who are certified and knowledgeable about all kind of trees, choose Goodfellers. It pays to use the best!

TERRIBLE SERVICE!!! Be warned and don't use this company, it will only end bad for you.
After requesting an estimate for a tree service, Matt came to my house He recommended I have the tree removed rather than trimmed, the stump ground down and a new, different species of tree planted. As we were talking he said, "We can do it all in a day and I'll even dig a new hole for the new tree, so it will be in a better spot." I agreed to this proposal. Later the same day I received an estimate for services and noticed the digging of the new hole was not included in the cost, but since he was "throwing it in as a freebee" I figured there was no need to have it listed. I signed the estimate and scheduled the service for Monday of the following week, reminding the office manager of the fact Matt agreed to dig a new hole which wasn't listed on the estimate.
- On Monday (03 MAY) I received a call at about 2pm saying they weren't going to be able to make it to my house and asked if Tuesday would be OK. I had no problem with this and happily agreed.
- On Tuesday (04 MAY), Matt showed up and immediately said, "I can't grind the stump today, but you'll need to pay for the tree removal today. I'll grind the stump tomorrow" I thought that was a bit odd, but I agreed to pay for the tree removal. When observing the tree removal I witnessed Matt speaking with his helper and mentioning a cash problem. Matt said he would have to run back home to get cash to be able to get this person the money he owed him for the day and that would put him farther behind. When I heard this I offered to pay Matt in cash for the tree removal for the day, I just needed to make a quick trip to a cash machine. I not only did that, but I actually followed Matt and his helper to their next job to personally hand Matt the cash. My only request was a receipt for the payment. Matt said, "I'll send you a text later." By the next afternoon I didn't receive the text, so I had to send him a text requesting he acknowledge the cash payment I made. He did respond, but the fact I had to initiate the request when I went so far as to follow him to his next job and place it in his hands was somewhat surprising.
- The next day (Wednesday, 05 MAY) the stump grinder arrived early on a trailer and was parked in front of my mailbox. There the grinder and trailer sat Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (05-07 MAY) with no stump grinding taking place. On Friday afternoon Matt called to say he just found out the stump grinder had been at my house, but he wasn't going to be able to grind the stump until the following week. I informed him I would be out of town the following week, and asked if there was any reason why I would have to be there for the stump grinding and digging the new hole. He confirmed both would be done before I returned the following Friday.
- The following Friday (14 MAY) I returned home to find the stump ground, but no new hole dug. I figured this was a par for the course delay Matt had already shown. After waiting 11 days, I called the office and left a message on Tuesday (25 MAY) asking for 1) status of the new hole to be dug and, 2) a final balance due. I received no response until Friday (28 MAY) when the office manager called me and asked if final payment could be collected before the end of the day. I replied my understanding was the job wasn't finished until the new hole was dug, and I didn't have a final invoice to pay anyway After another call of the office manager playing middle person to what Matt and I were saying, I suggested Matt call me. Matt called but immediately reneged on his promise to dig the new hole and accused me of being two weeks late in paying, despite the fact he never provided a final invoice or gave any indication he was "done" with the job.

Highly recommend Matt and his Goodfellers team! They took down 3 very large trees, while avoiding our well-head, propane tank controls, and home, which were very close. He also expertly trimmed a forth tree right next to our home (we planned on also removing this tree but Matt actually recommended keeping it due to its health and status - so thankful for that advise after seeing the results of his pruning). We plan on using Goodfellers for additional work as Matt identified a few other trees where pruning would be beneficial (will help mitigate potential home damage with one of them should it fall). Professional, knowledgeable, and responsive - extremely satisfied with their work!

I had a couple trees that needed to be removed. I called for an estimate. Matt reviewed my needs and gave my several options as well as some recommendations. I was able to chose the options I needed and even contracted for some of his recommendations to protect our home. He did an excellent job. I will call him again when the need arises.

I’m glad I finally managed to have a large tree I share with a neighbor serviced. Goodfellers was quick to address questions i had and also gave recommendations that they said would help with the continued health of our tree. They also removed a large branch that we didn’t know was starting to crack. Overall, we are happy with their work and how the tree looks.

Quick to give an estimate and quick to schedule the removal of the trees. Friendly staff and very knowledgeable, knew exactly what to do. Also had very reasonable prices. I would definitely recommend and will use his services again, when needed.

The previous owner of our home had a utility pole installed between the house and the neighboring garage that was no longer being used. Matt came out and took it down piece by piece from the top down, carefully lowering each section to the ground. The work was down professionally, safely, and quickly. From the initial call to Goodfellers, everything was handled very efficiently. The company gets our stamp of approval, and we highly recommend them.

We needed expert help assessing the health of several trees on our new property after moving to the area. Matt came out and inspected each tree and provided us with his recommendations and options to address any issues. Pricing was competitive and the work was scheduled quickly and completed professionally. Matt’s expert knowledge was evident and greatly appreciated. We will definitely be using Goodfellers Tree Service again to complete additional work needed!

Goodfellers was by far the most reasonably priced service of the 4 estimates I received. They were professional, communicated promptly, and easy to use -- in fact, my wife went into labor the day he came, and Goodfellers was very flexible in not requiring me to be home when he came, and the office said I could arrange to pay a different day if needed (though I was home and did end up paying the same day). Would use Goodfellers again!

Update: interesting that over the course of several weeks and attempted contacts, no one had the time to even say they were too busy to remove my tree. But when I leave a review (that was rated fairly based on the service I received last year combined with the lack of contact this year) there's a response to my review in a couple of hours. I'm mostly disappointed.

Original review: I used Goodfellers last year to remove one large tree and thin another large hickory tree. I thought they were great and recommended them to some coworkers. This year I needed another tree removed so I contacted them again. Three times in fact.
1. I spoke to someone in the office and was told someone would call me - no one called.
2. I contacted them online - no one responded.
3. I left a voicemail - no one called back.
I'll be using a different company this year.

We have been customers of
Goodfellers Tree Service for several years! They are the only company we use when we have trees that need to be cut down. We have so many sweet gum trees on our property. They drop these annoying spiky balls and I spend hours every week picking them up!
We decided to get some of the trees cut down and Matt came over quickly to see what needed to be done. We talked about different options and Matt told us that he would give us an estimate within a few days with the costs for the options we discussed. We decided on what we'd like to have done and let Matt know. He was available to do the work in a few days but that day didn't work for us. Matt gave us a few other days and we got on his schedule! He arrived when he said he would and quickly assessed what to do first. We changed what we had originally wanted done and added more work. Matt agreed but told us the work would require two days. That was fine with us as it was a lot of work.
Matt and his crew are very professional. They respect your property and clean up after the job is done. Matt is extremely skilled and was able to get the trees to fall exactly where he wanted them. One of the areas had 5 trees that we wanted removed. They were 40-50 feet tall and close to our house, basketball court and detached garage. I was nervous on how they would come down. Matt assured me that they would not fall near the house. It was incredible to watch him! He knew exactly what to do. No damage was done and the trees fell exactly where he said they would. I could not be happier with the work we had done. We will only hire Matt when we need trees taken down.

We planted a garden and then realized some nearby trees prevented enough sun to get to the garden. I contacted Goodfellers Tree Service and they were able to give me an estimate the next day. Once I decided on what trees that I wanted removed based on their recommendation, they were able to get me on their calendar quickly! Goodfellers expertise was very appreciated! After a storm with a lot of tree damage, we had Goodfellers come out. They were the most professional people we had give a quote. They provided a nice detailed quote with clear information. They did a great job and it was great to have a Certified Arborist providing insight into our trees. A year later, we had more trees that we weren't sure about, and Matt came out to look at them and told us the one that was dangerous and explained why others did not need to come down. We trust them and will continue to use them.

We had a great experience with Goodfellers from beginning to end! A prompt and extremely fair estimate, then an excellent job. Matt and Veronica were both a pleasure to work with. They removed a large dead oak from our property and removed all wood - you can't even tell they were here (other than the tree and all debris is gone!). Very knowledgeable (certified arborist) and able to tell us about other problem trees on our property. Will use their services again!

Goodfellers offers good work at a fair price, which is what I look for in contractors. Our tree was damaged during a pop up thunderstorm. Goodfellers came the same day to give an estimate. The estimate was sent to us the next day and we scheduled with Goodfellers after receiving a couple more. The work was done in timely fashion, the tree looks great, and they hauled all the debris away. I am very pleased with the service, and will use them again.

I was extremely pleased with their service and couldn’t recommend them more highly.

First of all, they were the only company of the 5 or so that I contacted that even responded, and they were able to finish removing my downed tree that same day. I suspect that they are not just one guy with a truck like other providers, but a somewhat larger organization with multiple teams and more capacity to respond and do work quickly.

They quickly offered a fair price via a detailed email, with instructions and offers for discounts. I did not need to be home for the estimate or for the work to be done.

There was no hard sell of “let me do the work right now or the price goes up.” They came and left, emailed the estimate, and then came back to do the work, all in the same day. There was no down payment required in advance, just payment after the job was done.

They went above and beyond. They removed parts of some other damaged trees where I declined their service in order to save money. They also blew away my leaves and debris not just around the worksite, but in a significant portion of my yard, just to be nice!

Full disclosure, they offered a $30 discount if you post feedback to Google and Angie’s list. But this in no way influenced my review — other than that it’s yet another reason I like them. They didn’t ask or require that the review be positive. They also offer a discount if you can pay in cash.

Update 7/2019: Matt felled 4 trees for us and cleaned up and hauled away. Good job! Still happy with his efficient and professional work. Pricing is still reasonable. He prices each operation separately so you can see the actual costs of each. We were happy with the tree work Goodfellers did for us in previous years. Matt responded quickly. He is professional, knowledgable and has a good work ethic. I would recommend them for any tree service.

I have used Goodfellers several times over a number of years. The work is good and they are true to their price estimate. I would hire them again in the future.

Arrived when they said they would. Very professional. He took a job that three other people turned down! He safely laid both trees down. One was hollow and lightening struck it, and the last alive limb was hung up in another tree ( which is why no one else wanted to do it). Could not have asked for better service and it was neat to watch.

I contacted the company for an estimate of taking a tree down at our rental property. We didn't want a dead tree to damage anything or hurt anyone at the property.
We requested that they let us know when there were going out to let the renters know. Unfortunately that didn't occur and they went and estimated the job. But it was a quick estimate.
We were able to schedule the job within a couple of weeks after we got another estimate, which was way more expensive. After checking out other reviews, we decided to move forward.
On the day of the job, they had another project that they had to finish up, which we knew about. We asked them to contact us prior to them going out to the property, once again to let the renters know when they were heading over. At lunchtime, after not hearing anything, I contacted the office. I was told that they were wrapping up the previous job, but that they would let me know when they were heading over. After 2 hours, I finally contacted the renters to find out if they were there. They were.
The job was done within a few hours and they did a great job cleaning up.
I recommend them for the work, but believe they need to work on communication just a bit.

Terrible customer service. Had to call several times to schedule a tree inspection. Was told the owner would call me to schedule. No one called. I Called back and the person answering the phone said they would call the owner and get right back to me. Nothing as of three days later. Called Bartlett and got immediate response and had work scheduled within 10 minutes.

Came same day for estimate. Arrived a little later than expected but very efficient at removing our Bradford pear tree.

Fantastic service. Matt and his crew did an amazing job pruning 2 of our trees and saving an old cedar that we loved from having to be taken down. Our place was as clean (maybe cleaner) when he left than before he started his work.

Goodfellers is a great company. They have a lot of clients so they get busy. Matt knows his stuff. I had some large trees thinned and some smaller ones removed. I will definitely hire again for any future work.

I have no complaints about the work itself , they were prompt to produce an estimate and did a really good job with my trees. We did have to reschedule which resulted in the work being done without us being home and slight confusion about the payment.

Goodfellers responded quickly and gave us a great quote. We had to reschedule a couple of times due to equipment issues and weather, but once they arrived they were very efficient to take down a large tree near our house. They cleaned up the yard when they were done. I would call them again for any additional tree work that we might need.

On Aug 12th this year we had a micro burst which destroyed a lot of trees. Called Matt the next day because we had trees blocking our drive and he came out the next morning and removed the trees from the drive. Matt gave us a quote to remove the rest of the damaged trees and more importantly the tree on our roof.

Contacted Goodfellers to to landscaping and tree grinding/removal. they no showed me for a couple of initial appointments. Once I finally met with them and received a proposal, I signed and sent back. Had job scheduled and no one showed up that morning for an all day job. Called to check status and was told they would be out at 3:00 pm and would finish the job. No one showed up and no one has called since August 3 months ago. I also had to take a day off work for this. Will never contact them ever again for anything. Worst customer service I've had. One star is being generous, but doesn't look like I can go lower.

I contacted Goodfellers and they contacted me back very quickly. They soon came out to do an estimate. That same day they emailed me the estimate. They easily made the changes that I requested. Then they came out, took my tree down, took away the wood, and took away some extra wood that I had. It was hassle free! I strongly recommend this company.

I called Goodfellers and Matt came out to give me an estimate for dead wooding/trimming a large oak in my front yard that sits close to my house as well as several dogwoods. Matt was very professional and knowledgeable. I had an estimate the same day. I was home when the job was completed and watching him climb the tree was something to witness! When they were done, the yard looked great, given all the debris that had ended up on the ground. I am really happy with their work and would definitely call them again for any future tree work.

We recently hired Goodfellers to do some trimming of a pine that was close to our house and take down two trees that were intertwined over our driveway. Matt the owner came out to give me an estimate to have some trees removed. While he was at my home he brought a dangerous tree up that is close to our home. This tree is very healthy but is a type that is known to uproot in a storm and ours is very large. If this tree were to come down it would take out our home and endanger my family. I am so thankful that Matt brought this other tree to my attention. He did not recommend removing the tree just thinning the canopy. Matt and his guys showed up on time and were very professional. I will use Goodfellers for any future tree needs. I am adding to this review because it would not let me do another review. I just used Goodfellers for a second time yesterday(5/28/19) to take down a dead tree. Again very happy with them. I will continue to use them and recommend them to everyone I know.

We just had Matt out again to work on our maple tree and he did a great job! It admittedly wasn't the biggest job, but Matt took great care with our tree and our property was left in immaculate condition when he was finished. Very professional job!

This is the third time I have used their services to either take down and/or to maintain the trees in my yard. They are a reliable company and their prices are excellent. They work fast and always maintaining a high level of safety in mind.

The owner possesses an extensive knowledge on tree maintenance and is willing to offer advise in the best possible option to maintain a healthy environment for your trees.

Without a doubt, I will call them again next time I need a job done. I recommend them.

Early this year I contacted them to remove 3 additional trees, as I was getting ready to have another contractor install a retainer wall. Veronica was kind enough to set up an appoint for the same week and I was able to install the wall without any delays.

They were very knowledgeable and professional. They did a good job bringing down two trees that stood 60'-70' tall in a safe manner. The owner came out and climbed a tree in order to trim out some limbs. The price was very competitive.

THIRD request for chainsaw assistance is a testament to good service the first AND second time. I have enjoyed working with Goodfellers Tree Service and will look to call upon them again if I have additional tree needs. They were prompt with arranging a visit and getting back to me with a quote after. This was significant for me back in '16 when we first had them out for service and a number of other inquiries went unanswered by some other tree service companies. Goodfellers followed up! No drama, just get the job done and settle up. Great diagnostics for troubled trees and reasonable cost as well that's extremely important. Positive experience X3 now. I have called on Goodfellers in 2016, '17, and '18.

Another great job by Matt and company @ Goodfellers Tree Service. Great response time, worked quickly and efficiently under very hot and humid conditions, removing some large branches that were getting too close to the house, and cleaned up afterwards. I highly recommend Goodfellers, and will use them again when the need arises.

I am so disappointed. A few years ago, Goodfellers Tree Service came to my house and did an outstanding job trimming trees and bushes. I tried to hire them again as the bushes and trees needed another trim. Sadly, I just couldn't seem to get them to come out. I had to call several times over the course of more than a week to get them to schedule an estimate. I then tried to schedule them to do the work and we just could not get on the same page. Matt was suppose to come out, but the weather was poor. Instead of receiving a call to reschedule, I had to call them to see if they were cancelling the visit for that day. They scheduled again and I made arrangements to be home. I waited through the morning and finally called to see when they would be out (I hadn't been given a time).I received a call about 2 hours before they were to be here and Matt said that something had come up and he needed to reschedule. He asked if I would like him to come Saturday or Monday. I said Monday was fine. Monday came and I again waited through the morning to see if someone would show up. I called the business phone and the line was down. I called Matt's direct line and left a message. I never heard back that day. The next day, I called to see what had happened and to let them know I was thinking of finding someone else. The lady said she would have Matt call me immediately. I never heard from nor saw him again.
