I was sitting on the couch when I felt raindrops through a hole in the ceiling on a Tuesday night. By Wednesday morning, Paul and Michael were out giving me a quote, and by Wednesday afternoon, the leak was repaired and my home was protected by the next storm that followed. A huge thank you to GenEx for this fast , affordable, and effective response!

We've all heard various accounts or horror stories of the storm chasers after a hail storm goes through an area. Well ours was no exception. I must admit, I had no idea where to turn when the hail storm came through a year ago and decimated our home, only to be inundated by these self-acclaimed professionals from all over the country it seems. There were husband and wife teams showing up uninvited and unannounced at our home in station wagons with a ladder sticking out the back window, to pool shark hustlers accessorized in thick gold necklaces and multiple diamond rings, daunting a ready to sign contract, claiming to have my insurance company's “claims adjuster” in their back pocket, as they bowl or shoot pool together.

In discussing my options with my insurance agent, I mentioned some of my concerns regarding the storm chasers, their lack of credibility, and my lack of knowledge regarding a reputable contractor. With that, he mentioned a company he used for his house, his parents home, his aunts home, along with several other relatives. So I made the call to General Exterior Contractors out of McHenry Il.

I was skeptical when Brad, the company rep, first came out, but he was neat, clean cut, and had no fake jewelry and no contract ready to sign, so I thought maybe. As he was exiting his truck, I asked him point-blank if he was here working for me, or the insurance company. Brad immediately recognized my apprehension, calmed my fears and assured me, he was here working for me. I was to be his client. But in the conversation, he also warned about his unwillingness to commit insurance fraud. I even asked him about kick-backs to the agent, to which he assured me there's no such thing.

In these times we are living, real people with honest values, commitment, and integrity, and mean what they say and stand behind their work, are a very rare commodity. In fact, it's almost unheard of. But that's exactly what General Exteriors are. Their professionalism and workmanship are second to none.

We needed a new roof on our home and pole barn, along with skylights, several windows and gutters. Dave, the owner, Brad their representative, along with the various teams we have had the pleasure of working with, have been the most professional we have ever encountered. They have surpassed every expectation on every level imaginable. On a five star rating system, I would give General Exteriors seven stars, and highly recommend their services. They have truly calmed all anxiety I thought I would experience during this entire process.

Even at the very end, when all required documentation had been submitted, the final payment from the insurance company was short by over $7000. Brad immediately sprang into action and after two more payouts, we finally received all funds we were owed. Any other contractor would have said that was between me and the insurance company. I can't thank Brad and Dave enough. They are truly a top notch, 1st class company.

My home needed all new siding and a large new front window . I called 3.0 Local Contractors & got quotes .All where pretty competitive . Reason we went with Gen Ex was there attention to detail , the quick response to any of my questions , concerns & general overall follow up . Doug the GC was outstanding and made sure there crews were on time and respective of my property .He knows his stuff. Gen Ex office staff is pretty on point also. Only took a day & 1/2 to complete the entire project! My 34 year-old House looks brand new!

Recently I replaced the roof in my home, Gen Ex did a wonderful job, since the beginning from providing a very detail quote, until the end, installing the roof using top material and labor.
Greg my contact person at Gen -Ex was outstanding, inspecting the roof that needed to be replace, providing shingle samples and actually going out of his way to fix a little detail that caught my wife's eye.
Gen-Ex proved to be very professional capable and dependable company following the schedule, provide materials and labor and leaving the work area very clean after the installation.
I will not hesitate to recommend them .

Summary: Insurance exploitation/fraud and sleazy sales practices.

I contacted Gen Ex with a clear description of the work I wanted done on my house. After coming for an inspection, I received a follow up trying to get me to submit insurance claims for hail damage to replace my siding and a new roof. The roof is only a few years old and I had not experienced any hail damage. I explained that and told the sales rep that I only wanted a quote for the work that I had requested.

He continued to push while also trying to play an angle of convincing my girlfriend that the work SHOULD be done in the hopes that she would insist I agree to all the extra work. Very pathetic and sleazy sales tactic.

When I asked that he send the quote only for what I asked, he again insisted I consider making a false insurance claim and would send the quote after I've made a decision about that.

It is clear that Gen Ex is only interested in exploiting your homeowners insurance to extract the most money out of your repairs rather than doing honest and quality work. They are unfortunately a part of a large trend of contractors exploiting this system which is causing premiums to rise and putting home owners at risk of being denied insurance coverage in the future.

I would have been more receptive to the inquiry if my home had any hail damage. At this point I might give the benefit of the doubt that the wrong house was inspected; however, the representative spoke to my partner. When I arrived home the only thing she had to say was "he was strangely insistent that we have hail damage to our siding". To say that there is any damage to the siding warranting an insurance claim is VERY FAR reaching. None of the other 4 companies that came to quote this job made any comment or note about poor condition of/damage to the roof or siding.

I did take your advice from the strangely timed text message you sent me at 9:45pm trying to explain how my experience was incorrect. I read the positive reviews again and noticed just how many specifically recognize how great your project manager is at making insurance claims. I see that those reviews were really red flags, because he didn't want to talk to me about my fascia until he could talk to me about replacing my siding and roof on an insurance claim.

I had a great experience working with Dan Trujillo and his team at Gen Ex Construction. Dan was very thorough and responsive whenever I had a question or concerns. He paid attention to every detail and made sure all the proposed work was understood prior to starting. The installation crew did an equally fantastic job replacing the siding and gutters. Everything exceeded expectations when all work was completed. I would definitely recommend Dan and Gen Ex Construction for your next project!

This company is phenomenal!!! Our project consisted of roofing, siding, gutters, soffit, and fascia. Dan was our Project Manager and answered all our questions and addressed all our concerns. He even provided a large "visual" with our color prior to the project. Each and every team provided EXCEPTIONAL workmanship!!! When completed, we received many compliments from our neighbors. Susan, the Office Manager, quickly emailed a letter to our insurance company, mailed our warranty, and registered our roofing material and siding. This is, definitely, a local company you can trust. GenEx did our new roof at a very fair price and we had a GREAT experience. Paul came out and gave us a quote and within a few weeks we got out project financed and completed. They did exceptional work and took great care on our property with the actual install. Susan in the office was very helpful and I recommend them to all friends and family and will use them for any future needs. Great company, fair pricing, beautiful work and the install team was a joy to work with!

I was looking for a contractor to replace my bow window for a bay window. Gen Ex said they dont do that type of work but they have a guy. That guy was John Neylon with Heartland Construction. John and his son did a fantastic job on the custom bay window and were a lot of fun to talk to. The experience was great and thank you Gen Ex for the recommendation!

Look no future for a company that dose outstanding work. From your first phone call, to the worker calling you to inform you that there on the way. Greg was great at explaining the procedure follow up calls, ect.. The crew was polite, very hard working, did not stop till they were out of daylight. The owners were also on site and working with there crew. They did quality work, to say the least. One does not often see this quality of a work ethic these days. I have told several people already about this company and will continue to do so. At the end of this I can honestly say that i feel my house is well protected, and more than Thankful I had this company do such a fanatastic job,

We had a fantastic experience from start to finish. We used Gen Ex to replace our roof shortly ago: not only was the outcome absolutely beautiful, it was also of great quality. Greg was surpassingly helpful in getting an estimate to us along with discussing our options and needs. The installers were very kind as well. Gen Ex did a phenomenal job. We had wind damage to our roof from a storm. They were highly recommended by a friend. Came out right away. Very friendly. Identified the damage, gave us an extremely good estimate (bit lower than I had anticipated), and had a crew out to do the work later that day. Did an excellent job. We were due more storms the following day, and they were concerned about getting the job done that day to avoid any further damage. I highly recommend them for any roofing work.

Fantastic customer service. Siding was coming off from the high winds in our area. I wanted a professional to handle the job. They gave me no issue, came out the same day, and even double checked around my home to see if any other repairs needed to be done. They were thorough and it was much appreciated. AWESOME JOB!!!!! My first experience with them was when one of the trees on my property fell & damaged my neighbor's house. My neighbor was telling me that he had extensive damage & that there was water leaking in his attic after the tree impacted the house. They had GEN EX come out to check the extent of the damage. GEN EX did a full inspection & informed him that it was just superficial damage to a gutter that they fixed for a minimal fee which I paid for. (my neighbor was trying to get them to say it was more, but they told him NO sir "WE DO NOT LIE") I know because I just happened to be home & overheard the whole conversation
I called them 6 months later when I had water leaking into my house. GEN EX inspected & gave me an estimate to repair a small area for a very reasonable price. Once I authorized the repairs they immediately sent someone to cover that area so there would be no additional water intrusion. When the weather broke they came & repaired it. The repair area was a little bit larger than they had expected but they still honored the original estimate. I plan on using them to do some gutter work in the spring also.

Greg is an outstanding contractor. He knows the business in and out. He will work with your insurance company. He is very available to contact. He provides honest recommendations. This is not one of those slap your siding on in 1 day places while hoping for the best. They took their time to do the job correctly while following local building codes and permit requirements. I recently had my roof replaced along with part of the siding and gutters. I cannot say enough about the superior job done by Greg and the team. From start to finish, everyone was responsive, informative, helpful, and professional. Greg was also wonderful with helping me decide on the colors for the roof and shake siding (not an easy task)and some last minute changes. GenEx was one of three bidders to replace my 22-year old roof. They were recommended by a close friend that recently had his roof replaced and was very complimentary of their work and cleanup. I cannot say enough about how impressed I was with the whole Gen Ex experience and crew. I contacted Gen Ex for an estimate to re-side my house. Greg came out and walked me through the whole process and how things were going to be done. He kept reassuring me that i was going to be happy with the final product. I am a bit particular in the way things are done and not easy to impress. Within a couple days we received a proposal, a very quick turnaround. We took a good few weeks to decide and during that time we were never pressured to sign the proposal. Once we finally decided, Greg was able to get us on the schedule with the crew as promised. I was still a little apprehensive, because I am so particular, but once meeting Alfred and his crew my mind was at ease and I knew I was in good hands. Gen-Ex recently replaced my roof, including some structural repairs. I was delighted, and relieved, that my experience with them was fantastic and easy throughout the entire process. Their communication was great, attention was paid to details, and the workmanship was excellent. This is the third roof I have put on my house - by far the best experience!

I placed a call in for some minor repairs on my siding. They showed up and did the job. They were honest with their price point and go on and off the job quickly. I will certainly use them again! It’s nice to work with people who know what they are doing.

So few companies deserve 5 star reviews these days. I am so happy to say General Exterior does deserve it! 2 of their guys came out with smiles on their faces. SMILES! They checked out our roof and got into our attic to find exactly what the issue was as it wasn't clear cut where the water was coming thru our ceiling. They took pics, showed us and called the owner who in turn called us and discussed all our options on what they thought it was. Dan and Dave were great people to work with. Everything Dan told me at signing of contact held true. when it came time for installation both Dan and Dave were her to make sure everything was going to Scheule. Dave stayed with the crew all day and help set the skylights in their correct position. i am very satisfied with workman ship and performance of the company.

They came out and quoted my small job with no hassle. They repaired the roof where the chimney was removed, plus replaced a damaged vent. The price was right and they were able to fix both issues same day. They also did a nice job of cleaning up afterwards.

Paul and his crew are true professionals. Received quote that was 25% less than his competitors and was very open with scheduling around weather. Found a perfect shingle match for a 10 year old shingle. New ice/water shield, ice board and step flashing. Would recommend to everyone. Already recommended to my neighbors and he saved them 30k by salvaging their roof, rather than needing to replace.

Yesterday, Gen Ex responded very quickly and cleared a backup of snow and ice that was causing a leak. About two years ago, Gen Ex installed my roof. It was a large project, and it was mostly completed in one day. The team was very professional and careful to protect my property and clean up after the work was done. I hired them because I felt comfortable with the directness, professionalism and skill of the company representative, Paul Antonou. I was very happy with the results. My neighbor also hired them based on my results.

Had woodpecker damage on a chimney bump out and they did a great job matching original siding from the 70's, as well as the existing paint color. Would definitely recommend.

Excellent roofing company. Paul came immediately and made our emergency his emergency. He came out again to meet with the insurance and adjuster and quickly sent his team back to make a requested adjustment after the install. He never made us wait. Responsive and conscientious. Replacing a roof is an expensive endeavor that I feel warrants a detailed review for potential future customers. I used Gen Ex to replace the roof and install gutter guards at an investment property I own in Antioch. Gen Ex was recommended to me by a handyman who had used them previously.
I received quotes from several different companies and Gen Ex came in with the best pricing. I'm no roofing expert but to my untrained eye, the roof and guards looks great, no more leaks reported from tenants, and there's no longer a soft spot on the roof!

A couple other random positives:
Worksite was very clean after they left, no signs that they were ever on the property.
During roof removal, a shingle fell and tore a hole in a small pop-up tent that a tenant had up in the back. Gen Ex proactively contacted the tenant and took care of the tent for them.
All tenants reported that the crew was very friendly and professional (even the ones with the damaged tent were very positive)
I had a downspout that had come loose from its bracket. Gen Ex noticed and secured this again for me on their own.

If I had to provide one piece of constructive criticism, it would be that communication was a little bit sparse at times. There were weather delays and a short delay on installing the gutter guards. I received some updates, but wasn't fully aware of timelines. TO BE FAIR: This is an investment property 45 minutes away from where I live. If this was my home, I would have been more aware just by being there everyday. Also, I was not reaching out regularly for updates and whenever I did reach out, Gen Ex was quick to return my call or text with an update. If I had reached out more frequently, I'm sure this wouldn't have even been a thing worth mentioning. I can attribute this criticism to myself as much as I can them.

I would 100% recommend Gen Ex to anyone in the area looking for roof repair or replacement. They are true professionals and I plan to use them again in the future for any further needs on my various properties.

Called Gen Ex to come out and quote a full fascia and soffit repair and replacement. Had rotted wood in some spots. We went with the maintenance free option that the aluminum soffit and fascia brings. The house looks beautiful. Paul was great from our initial meeting (quote) throughout the project. They met our timeline and completed the job, along with some additional repairs to our siding that we needed, within the 2 days, as stated. Have recommended them to a few neighbors looking to do the same. Cosmo and his team were great to work with and took the time to answer all my questions.

We recently had our roof replaced by Gen-Ex and they were awesome to work with throughout the entire process keeping us informed ahead of time as to what to expect and always willing to answer my questions. Their price was competitive with my other estimates. I felt their crew was outstanding! They came in and got set up, taking great care of our landscaping and bird feeders etc. using a mesh tarp that protected everything from the debris, but allowed the air to flow through it. Everyone knew their role as they got to work removing the old shingles, repairing areas as needed and installing the new roof and roof ridge vents. By late afternoon they were done and their cleanup was impressive with virtually no signs left that any work had been done here. I have already recommended them without hesitation to my family and friends.

From initial inquiry a responsive and professional contact was assigned to my roofing project. The business model was solid with knowledgeable experienced staff that listened and offered recommendations and insight into the process. Quote was competitive and target schedule was met. Crew was very motivated and worked very well as a team. Early starts and long days. One of the owners was on site daily to supervise and troubleshoot any issues. Project was completed on schedule. Very satisfied at this point.

These guys are fantastic! Had a problem with my gutters overflowing during heavy storms and a corner that dripped water onto my patio throughout the year, even during the winter months. This was a big problem during the winter because the drips turned into patches of ice that everyone slipped on. After years of trying to address this myself, I finally called GenX. They installed a larger 6" gutter that could handle a larger volume of water and installed a gutter guard that allowed maximum water to fall into the gutters but not the leaves or other debris. We had our first storm yesterday and it worked like a charm!

GenX also installed some sliding french doors on the interior of my house that we had been wanting to install for years.

Kudos to Greg Borchardt and his crew. They were very professional, showed up on time and cleaned everything before they left. I am extremely happy with their work and highly recommend GenX.

This was the best experience we have had with any contractor of any kind. They worked with my insurance company to ensure all items that should be covered were estimated properly. They scheduled quickly, got the work done quickly and charged a reasonable amount. I work for an insurance company, and I have seen some companies do some shady things to increase the cost of the job. Gen Ex is not that type of contractor. They do an honest job, and they do it professionally and quickly. Could not be happier with this company.

This company is one of the best companies I've ever dealt with. A tree fell on my house and damaged my roof. I called them and within no time they were there to help. Greg was absolutely amazing. He guided me through the whole process. He was very knowledgeable and very patient with me as I had a lot of questions. The day they came to replace the roof they had a huge team show up and the roof was done very quickly. The owner of the company came to introduce himself and thanked me for choosing them. They even sent me a thank you package a few days later which I thought was really nice. Again, Greg was absolutley wonderful and I cant thank him enough for everything.

Just had them replace siding and gutters from storm damage based on a friend's referral. Jeff from Gen-Ex went above and beyond to help us choose the materials and deal with the insurance company. Siding job was done in 3 days, gutters in 1 day and our house looks amazing. Highly recommend them!

They were very kind, clean , explain to me everything that needed to be done and the job was completed in a quality manner . I have not found one nail in my yard that is very impressive wish you could see the roof beautiful

This company was amazing to work with. Very responsive and a good value. I had them install new siding for my garage and they did a phenomenal job. It’s been about a couple weeks ago and it has stood against severe thunderstorms and tornado warning winds. Very pleased with their work and I will definitely consider them for future projects. Thomas and Paul are amazing - we had a leak in our house which has been a recurring issue. Thomas came out and identified it as a caulking issue (vs other vendors who just wanted to replace windows). Because of impending rain, Paul came out and fixed it despite being extremely busy. He went the extra mile and sealed a few additional spots just in case. It worked. not only that but Paul called the next day after a big rain to check in and make sure everything was okay and water tight. I am very picky about vendors and cannot recommend this company enough. Happy to be a reference any day!

We had our trim wrapped in aluminum back in 2017 and had a wonderful experience working with Gen Ex. After this last round of torrential storms we had them come out to check and re-seal a roof vent and they were prompt and professional. We highly recommend their services!

We had our roof replaced last month after storm damage. I could not have been happier with the outcome. Our roof looks beautiful but what I was happiest about was the customer service. The owner was at our home first thing in the early morning to set up for his crew. He was so hands on that I couldn't believe he was the owner of the company. He covered all areas of our yard with tarps and was mindful of our plants. Most of all he looked after our baby farm animals who were underneath the areas being worked on. He was constantly checking for nails and making sure I was happy. The yard and driveway were spotless when they were done. He even came by the next day to double check everything and he somehow spotted two nails himself in our yard. He immediately called a few of his workers to come back and magnetize our entire property for the safety of our kids and animals. My mom recently got her roof done by a different company in our area and she has had nothing but trouble. I am so thankful we had a great experience with a reputable company and I will be recommending GenEx very highly to friends and neighbors.

I highly recommend using Gen Ex! A branch fell on a line which took off a piece of siding that it was connected to. Comed wouldn't even come look at the downed line to see if it was a hazard since it involved a piece of siding, thus started my journey to find a siding company. I called a couple of different companies who didnt answer or said they would get back to me on Monday and never did. When I called Gen Ex that afternoon though I got ahold of someone right away. They had everything assessed and fixed by Tuesday morning. The whole team was very nice and I would absolutely use them again!
