Greg Gardener, owner of Elephant Builders is a rare gem in today’s world of builders and project contractors. He recently completed a large deck and pergola on my property and I couldn’t be happier with the overall project! I say this for several reasons:
1. This guy worries the details of the job; from initial planning and design, to follow-up and contacts with me about ideas, unforeseen schedule changes (which were minimal), and any delays In materials.
2. When I say “rare gem” I refer to the above, but also to the fact that Greg doesn’t set up a project plan and then, leave it to subcontractors and others to do the work. He is on the job working side-by- side with his experienced crew daily and he is organized and detail-oriented. He provided daily plans and kept me in the loop as to what to expect throughout the project. He was respectful of property and my neighbors as his crew worked on the project.
Importantly, He is a “hands-on” builder, his work is meticulous, and the final product is a reflection of his overall work ethic and attention to detail.

3. Finally, he is a great
Guy…Patient with someone who asks a lot of questions (like me) and who asks
For some minor changes along the way. He isn’t the cheapest builder out there, but I believe you would be hard pressed to find a better builder. He uses quality materials, is fair in his estimates (no surprises), there are no budgetary changes after the bid, and you can trust that he will do an outstanding job on your deck/project. I highly recommend him and his crew and do so without reservation. His 5 star ratings are well deserved. If there were 10 stars, Elephant Builders would get all 10 from me.

One of their drivers pull out in front of me so close I had to lock up my brakes to avoid hitting them I was pulling a 6 thousand lbs trailer. It looks like it's not the first time for that Ford pickup to be rear-ended because they pulled out in front of somebody without enough room, the bumper is smashed in already.

Fantastic experience. Remodeled an old deck that had a lot of challenges and built a cover. The new deck is absolutely beautiful and they handled some last minute requests. The crew was professional and enjoyable to work with. Greg was responsive and very accommodating. Can't say enough good things. Everything they did beat expectations. Highly recommended.

Elephant Builders earns five stars in every category, most importantly in the stellar quality of their design and construction. Our deck project was rather complex, having three levels and an unusual attachment to the house. Greg and his team did an excellent job of building a frame that feels rock solid on even the highest level. The deck planks and railing fit with the precision of fine furniture. We received quotes from four contractors and Elephant Builders had the best combination of design, quality materials, and cost. Greg is a pleasure to work with and gave great advice every time we had a decision to make. We couldn't be any happier with the results!

My husband and I are so pleased with the work that Greg and his team completed for us! We hired Greg and his team to reinforce and alter our deck to accommodate a hot tub. During Greg's evaluation of our deck he pointed out to us a dangerous situation that had not been fixed adequately by a prior contractor. Greg not only fixed that situation but did a beautiful job altering our deck to accommodate the hot tub. Greg was a great communicator, he was on time and treated me with the same respect he did my husband....something I've found to be incredibly rare in the contractor world. Greg and Kelvin built composite material stairs on the back of our house. They did an excellent job while fighting cold weather along with a few wet days added in. We have had the pleasure of doing business with Elephant Builders a couple of times. As homeowners in Corvallis over 25 years, we have dealt with multiple contractors. Elephant Builders is far and away the most reliable contractor that pays close attention to quality and detail. Gregory designed above our garage a custom deck which is functional and beautiful. This job entailed a demolition of the old deck and custom rebuild. They also replaced our back deck and stairs. We had an eight hundred square foot deck that needed replacing. I can attest, unequivocally, that this was the best experience I have had with a construction project. In December after much planning, researching deck builders in the area and getting 3 bids we chose Elephant Builders to do our deck using plans drawn up by a third party. During our initial meeting and after many questions, the owner Greg stated 'don't worry, we will build you the deck you want!'
The deck is now done and we could not be more pleased with the results. The workmanship is superb. They kept us informed of what they were doing, they double checked with us on several items to make sure it was what we wanted. As we got closer to the end of the project Greg asked us to look at a particular issue that they felt like if it was completed per the plans we would have been disappointed with the result. They could not have been more right, even though it added more work for them that change made a huge difference in the final appearance.
Besides being really hard working professionals, they were a lot of fun to work with and get to know.

Hiring Greg Gardner at Elephant Builders was one of the best decisions we every made.

We decided to replace our porch after hassling with the maintenance for over a year. Painting it and continued to have it chipping away.

We interviewed 5 companies. Two Home Depot referrals that did decks, two builder/remodeling companies and Elephant that specialized in only building decks and porches.

Price wise, the Home Depot referrals were at approx $10,000, young and inexperience guys, Elephant was at $13,000 + additional design items he exposed us to that we wanted totaling $15,000, another builder was at approx 15,000, and the last builder was at $21,000. No one had even mentioned the optional design elements Greg did. Plus Greg said he would be on the job every day with his men. None of the others committed that way.

I went to see three of Greg's jobs and talked to the property owners. Jobs looked great, all owners happy, one was even surprised that Greg reduced the final price because it didn't take as long as he projected. My wife and I were convinced, this was the company we wanted. And what a great decision.

After Greg's crew demolition, the prior framing underneath we so poorly done and rotted, we opted to have it all removed and have Greg start from scratch. Greg told us what the additional cost would be, which was very reasonable, and then said he was crediting us from the original bid for the work that would have had to be done if we left the original framing in place.

Greg and his men showed up everyday on time, and finished on time. they cleaned up, put all of our porch furniture and plants back in place and showed nothing but character and class. Extremely nice people who did what they said, exactly. Even some extra stuff we never expected.

You will not be disappointed using Elephant Builders.

I would be hard pressed to name a more decent, caring, and contentious contractor (and I have had the pleasure, and lack thereof, when dealing with quite a few when it has been time to make upgrades/repairs/improvements to my 1950's-era home!).

Greg explains the costs and gives you a reasonable quote . . . and then adjusts those numbers to fit the project once he is on site and has a chance to assess what you need. He keeps you informed of his progress and makes sure that you are happy with the process throughout . . . and even goes out of his way to make sure you are happy at the end of the project as well.

Nothing about the interactions feels forced. There is no sense that there is an up-sell occurring (even if Greg offers great advice for add-ons or tweaks to the existing project).

I must add: his crew are great. They really care about their work. And they are great to talk to as well. I have no doubt that my project was, given his portfolio, a rather small one. But Greg and his crew never treated it like that. I wish all my interactions when it came to home improvements were this positive. It is nice to interact with a true craftsman nowadays. I can't recommend him highly enough.

I had Gregory tear out and then build a large expanded deck for me in January, 2019 at my home in Corvallis. After signing the contract, I was away for the actual construction, but Gregory kept me informed by e mail, phone, and with pictures on a very timely basis. He was a real pro from design all the way through the construction phase. When I return in May to the finished product I couldn't have been happier. I would unreservedly recommend Gregory to anyone building a new deck.
