Last year, I contracted with a company to build a new deck. They did an outstanding job. The carpentry was top notch. It was all screws and bolts -- not a nail in it. It really looked great. Then came the crew to stain it and they did an awful job. They missed huge portions and slopped it on in other places. Where they missed, there were huge stains. I hired someone to power wash the deck in the hopes they could at least restore an even look. No such luck. It just took on a partially bleached mottled look.
I was about to give up when I came across a business card for Deck Medic of Greensboro. Troy Brafford, owner of Deck Medic, responded quickly to my inquiry and showed up to discuss what could be done. He explained his 5-step process which basically would undo the damage done by the painters and the power washer and give the deck an entirely new look. That same afternoon, I received a comprehensive proposal detailing the scope of the work and the process. It was one of the most professional and complete proposals I have ever received from a contractor
A couple of days later when he had a rain-free window of several days, he set to work. It seemed to be taking longer than the steps he described. When I asked about it, he explained that in some places the painters had so many layers of clear coat that his normal 5-step process was taking 8 steps. When he was finished, the surface looked even better than when it was new. Flaws in the new lumber disappeared after his sanding step. After a short rain interruption, Troy returned to put on multiple coats of a stain that gave the deck a beautiful new look. When my neighbor came over to look at it all he could say was WOW.
We were so pleased that I highly recommend contacting Troy with whatever deck problem you might have.
I should add that even though the job consumed more time and materials than he had anticipated, Troy stuck with his original price estimate. I even suggested that a slight increase might be acceptable because of the added cost he sustained, but he wouldn't hear of it.
I recommend him without reservation as a highly skilled and ethical contractor who will do a quality job for you.
