DC Handyman - Remodeling

I needed this have my new wheelchair assembled. Steve put it together and then spent time teaching me how to use it. He was so nice and patient but I have a lot of practicing to do!

UPDATE: Added an invoice, proving this is the right business and I have proof of payment. And they have yet to change the reply. No accountability.

Worst experience I have ever had. I had them attempt to do a lot of work around my new place and they did not finish any of the work...it's been months of going back and forth and I finally gave up after giving the owner $2,000 dollars and the handyman who worked for the owner an extra $1,000.

So, I wanted some simple painting, patch work fixed that the previous owner did poorly, a plug moved and that was it. My place is a whopping 1,100 square feet. They quoted me $2,000 for the whole thing. All the paint/labor/etc. included. They said it would take one full/long day to finish, said they would send a big team to knock it out. The next morning showed up with three guys and one was gone the entire day, he only told the other guys what to do.

They were nowhere close to being done, not one task had been completed, just a couple areas had been started. The end of the day, the boss texted me demanding that I pay half of the cost upfront when we agreed to a 10% deposit. This was not the case for him due to him saying that they completed half the work. I told him that half of the work was not complete and I would FaceTime him to show him all of the "work" that had been completed. After that, he said the job is bigger than he thought...after he was the one who did the walkthrough. I told him that is not my problem, but I will pay him $200 and if they finished half the work the next day they were available only then I would pay more. He agreed.

Next time they came, they sent two guys...only one guy stayed the entire time while the other one "went to Home Depot" that was 15 mins away...and came back at the end of the day with a paint can....that was the wrong color. ..when on the first day I gave all the paint tiles for the colors to the boss and had sample paint at the house. They said they would have to come back again. The boss again, reached out for payment and asked for more money. I said I am not spending more money when still, half of the work is not even complete. He was frustrated and called the workers. The workers explained to him that he needed more time and that he should be getting paid by his boss more money to finish the job. He told me that his boss is a cheap skate and always tells people it will cost a lot and pay him not even a third of the job price. Then the boss called me and demanded more money or he was not going to continue the job since he is losing money, I said okay, I cannot afford to pay you more. So, he hung up and called the worker and told him to leave and don't worry about anything...how do I know, the worker put it on speaker phone.

The worker leveled with me and said he is sorry for his boss and said he would complete the job if I just paid him $1,000...on top of the money I paid his boss that I wasn't getting back. So, I said if he could finish half the work the next day he comes, I will pay him half and then the other half when it's finished.

He came a couple days later and dropped off two guys and started working on everything. They finished half of the work and then I get a call from Home Depot asking me to pay for paint. I said I am not paying for paint, I should be buying a door for the job (I added putting a door in, included in the extra $1000). Then I told Home Depot I would call the worker. The tells me supplies were not included and what's an extra $60? I told him this whole process has been a hassle and I am not paying anymore money and he said okay, we can figure it out.

Now, with no warning, the workers packed up and left after a call with their boss...they simply left and didn't clean anything. They left paint spots on the ground, plastic, the furniture was all rearranged...the house was a mess. I tried called the worker....no answer...tried texting...nothing.

Worst company I have dealt with. Went ahead and did the work and had Lowes put my door in, no issues.

It was a pleasure to work with DC Handyman on a small project in my kitchen. We're happy with the quality of the work. It was very easy to communicate with this firm. We hope to work with DC Handyman on other projects.

We had an issue with the sealing on our glass shower panels growing mold. Israel came out within an hour to provide an estimate and fixed it later that day. He was thorough in removing and replacing the sealant and left the area clean afterward. Would recommend Israel for future handyman work.

Kind, honest, detail oriented, and respectful handyman who took care of fixing some broken window mechanisms for me. Was responsive and available for a quote in person or by text message/photos. Came in person promptly to fix next-day. Will definitely be using DC Handyman again in the future!

I had a fridge delivered and the delivery people took off the front door of my apartment to get it inside. In the process, they stripped the screws and couldn't put the door back on correctly. I needed someone to come ASAP to fix the door.

I called DC Handyman after 5pm and they sent several workers immediately to help. They did a great job and were extremely professional and helpful. Highly recommend.

Steve arrived on time, finished the job in one day and finished it well. No pictures because you can’t even tell there was a damaged area.

DC Handyman helped fix a number of things around the houses in record time. A joint for a door, rehang a towel rod and a closet rod. Service was prompt, and it was really easy to communicat about my needs.

They helped me with an urgent condo door replacement over Memorial Day weekend. Ricardo worked really hard and did a great job.

Steve repaired my garage siding that had been hit by a car. Found, cut and installed Hardie plank siding, caulked and painted. Looks good as new. Sam, Steve and company were pleasant throughout, very competent, and easy to deal with. Would use them again for sure.

DC Handyman took care of the problem (in my case, replacing the soft-close device on a kitchen cabinet drawer) effectively, quickly, and for the agreed upon price. We were given a one-hour window and arrival was punctual. No complaints, would use again.

I am very pleased with the work done by the two repairmen. They made my walls look better than the original look. They were very professional and committed to the job. I would definitely use their service again.

They did an amazing job repairing our drywall! We needed someone quickly, and they came the next morning, right on time (no waiting around during a long window) and completed the job quickly and beautifully. It looks like new, and they even added lumber behind the towel bar to ensure there's no "next time." Ben is super responsive and professional—highly, highly recommend! Can't wait to use them again.

UPDATE: We used Ben at DC Handyman again to fix an issue with our front door lock as well as a parcel box that was broken by a delivery person and he went ABOVE AND BEYOND in solving both problems. He quickly diagnosed the issue with our front door, fixed it quickly and cleaned up impeccably as he worked. Then he solved very tough to fix damage to our delivery box and thought ahead to potential future issues and added screws that will keep the same thing from ever happening again. Cannot recommend him highly enough!

Horrible communication. Took a day off from my job so they could come fix my door frame. Didn’t answer my texts at all and then at 4 o’clock on a Sunday quoted me $1250 without even coming in to see the door itself. How does that make sense?

The next company charged 1/3rd of that and actually responded to my text. Super unprofessional

I worked with Ben to fix multiple sticking exterior doors, install a smart lock, fix several plumbing issues, and install stair railings that had been removed to move in.

The aspect I liked most was that I talked to Ben to get a quote and coordinate and he led the work himself. I didn't work with a separate project manager who was only there part of the time.

Ben was absolutely amazing. He was very polite and professional. He even threw in a few extra minutes for free!
I will be calling him anytime we need a handyman.

Ben and Eduardo fixed a bathroom ceiling for us. They were prompt, good communicators with reasonable pricing and cleaned up the work space very well.

This is my third time working with DC Handyman and they did a phenomenal job every time. They helped mount our TV and a floating shelf when we first moved in. most recently, I asked them to remove the shelf, drop the TV a few inches, and patch up the wall - looks like a totally new space and they cleaned up afterwards. Very thorough job, you wouldn't even guess there were holes in the wall. Thank you!

Very professional and responsive. Our apartment building had an urgent need for locksmith services after a break in; Ben and his team were very responsive on back-to-back days. They talked us through various ideas and suggestions, and we all appreciated their clear concern for our safety and well-being— they wanted to get it right, and did a really nice job with both of the solutions we landed on. Ben was a big help. The work was done well the first time, and it was very easy to schedule.

Jose and his crew redid one of my bathrooms and redid my kitchen tile. The prices were very reasonable and they did an outstanding job. I will be using them again and referring them to others as well!!

Ben was very professional and patient with getting a very heavy metal bathroom shelf onto an old plaster wall and helped me out with some door weather proofing and lock/knob tightening issues. Big Thumbs up!

My wife and I just moved into our new house in June 2020 and it passed the inspection with flying colors. Only issue is that the inspector wasn’t able to check the roof on that day because it had been raining and wasn’t safe for him to go up there. We didn’t worry since we knew that the roof was newly installed. Needless to say we had a horrible shock when the first summer storm hit and we woke up to water leaking inside our windows on both floors. We googled handyman services and thankfully found Ben and his group! He responded to our inquiry within minutes (it was about 11:30PM) and they came out the next day to assess the issue. Long story short, Ben was able to identify the issues (clogged gutters, improperly sealed skylights, and eroded mortar) and fixed them all at our convenience. He was always available and answered our questions honestly and professionally. I’m so thankful that we ended up using their services.

I had DC Handyman come and hang some pictures in my bosses office. The hangings had to be VERY precise! The guys did a wonderful job, communicated with me well to be sure of understanding exactly what needed to be done and were very professional. My boss was completely satisfied and that is a enthusiastic thumbs up.

I called DC handyman after a previous plumber left me in the lurch the day before my house was going on the market. I was out of town, in a full panic. I needed someone that I could trust to enter my property unsupervised, complete the repairs, and leave the place in pristine condition for prospective buyers to see in the morning. Enter Ben from DC handyman; my hero! Ben not only called me back quickly to set up a same-day evening appointment, but he went above and beyond to get the keys from the lockbox and FaceTime and text me throughout the appointment to keep me updated and informed. He finished two projects in just under an hour, which I appreciated, and he sent me beautiful video footage to show that the fixtures and appliances were in working order and confirm that the job was completed to my satisfaction before sending me an e-invoice with convenient payment options. Of course I can’t speak for the other “DC Handymen” but Ben’s workmanship and professionalism are outstanding. I will absolutely hire him again in the future. (I only wish I had found him 3 years earlier!!) Trust me. Hire Ben. You will not regret it!

After the recent tropical storm hit DC I noticed I had water enter through one of my windows and called DC Handyman to figure out the source of the leak. Ben came by the next day (wearing a mask - kudos) and figured out that the windows hadn't been properly locked to create and airtight seal. He showed me how to lock the windows (it required getting on a stool and pushing quite hard) and didn't even charge me for the visit. I'll definitely use DC Handyman next time I need something fixed in my apartment!

Ben did a great job! He installed a large shelf and it was perfect! He even called a friend to come and help complete the job. Would call them again.

Got the pipes in our guest bathroom fixed which was very nice because our guests didn't have to use our master bathroom.

called to ask for an appointment at their convenience to look at scope of work (a fair amount of work being offered). Told that they were too busy to get to anything for 3-4 weeks (understandable) but that they couldn't even book an appointment to review the scope of work unless I called back to check again on their availability in 3-4 weeks. It's easy to see from this initial conversation that they would not be as reliable as one would hope.
