Crystal’s Chimney Service

Crystal’s came out and bid the following work: flashing repair $499, tuck pointing $450, waterproofing $699, membrane repair $500 and $300 labor. Total $2,448. They showed up and 2 men spent just one hour “working” on the chimney. There was some adhesive tape applied to cover the flashing that was then spray painted black. There was no sign of tuck pointing (no grinder or other tools needed for that work). I did not witness the waterproofing, but there was some runoff on the roof indicating something was sprayed. The membrane “repair” was some indiscriminate spraying from a spray can. The roof is PVC and I now have concern about possible damage. I had foolishly sent them a 50% advance.The job (being generous) was maybe worth $600 max. I was already out $1,200 and suggested they should reimburse me. That did not happen.
Still a bit stunned over the whole experience.

Crystal and Jerry completed some very minor repairs on my pellet stove; regluing the braid inside the door and spraying some sealant and silicon caulk around the flashing of the chimney that took him all of 35 minutes. They wanted to charge me $825. Very disappointing. They did not even clean the inside of the stove. Crystal also didn't wear a mask when I specifically asked her to and she had agreed to before even arriving. I would not recommend them.

Crystal & Jerry did an excellent job, arrived when promised and were clear in their communications including estimates and progress reports. They rebuilt the corroded inner structure of a large stainless weathervane-type chimney cap rather than replacing it, saving us hundreds of dollars. They also inspected two other caps, swept woodstove and fireplace, cleared fir needles piled above skylights, and reamed out the heavily clogged downspouts. Will definitely call them first the next time we needed help!
