3 years ago I left a glowing review about Colonial. Chas Kubrick is AMAZING!! They were professional, the construction team did a fabulous job and I think I only found 3 nails.
I purchased the upgraded roof and upgrade to beautiful Hardie siding.

Fast forward and I'm leaving a 1 star review.

Why? Because they only warranty their work product for 2 years a little but important fact that must have been in the contract and I missed. It certainly wasn't spoken.

I recall reviewing the Hardie as well as the CertainTeed Roof warranties but nothing about a 2 year warranty from Colonial. Given that information would I have chosen a different company? Of course!

I have 2 major problems, a leak inside of my sunroom as well as a problem with the siding which has destroyed a window and French door. A technician came out for the door and explained the when the siding was installed on the deck, they failed to do the flashing. And well, you can see in results in the pictures.

When contractors come to provide estimates without missing a beat, each says I shouldn't be having these problems after 4 years and that Colonial should repair. I explain the 2 year clause and they laugh.

So, here we are, either file a claim with the roof and siding manufacturers, pay out of pocket OR file a claim with my insurance company. Each option sucks because I went with a company which doesn't provide an actual warranty for their work product.

Don't be me, be better.

They were very professional on the installation and clean up of installing new roof shingles on my main home and back workshop. Frank Kang who works for them and spearheaded the whole operation was by far the best contractor I have ever worked with. Very responsive and answered every question that I had or concerns. Never left me in the dark as other contractors have done in the past. He is very thorough in his estimate and doesn’t try to add hidden prices. Frank Kang called, texted and told emailed me to keep me updated. If I called and left a message he would get right back to me. Because of him we are having our other home roof replaced. He is honest and trustworthy along with Colonial Remodeling who are superior to other roofers. If you want a job done right and of good quality I urge you to pick them.

Francis Kang was outstandingly supportive and patient to ensure our satisfaction with your services. Francis met all of my many requests from the team to install my roof to working to get information for the insurance company regarding matching the siding. The siding is manufactured in Canada and not available in Virginia. Francis was a superstar!

Mr. Frank Kang was a pleasure to work with. He is very professional, knowledgeable and patient. He provided excellent customer service. We used this company to replace siding on our home that was damaged from hail storm. They did an excellent job replacing the siding on our home. Mr Frank Kang is really awesome to work with. On the day my insurance company came to my home to review the damage to my roof, Mr Kang was there. He explained the entire process of the roof repair and how his company is able to complete a professional job. I had never heard of his company before but I can honestly say they are very professional. The company uses quality materials to complete their work. The roofers were at my house earlier than I had expected and cleans up after themselves. Most companies could care less. Mr Kang, the roofers, and the men who installed the siding are knowledgeable and professional. I would use them again and highly recommend them.

Just installed a new roof with them. The rep assigned to us was Francis Kang. Francis is probably the best we ever worked with on any project. He is professional at project management and customer service. He met with us once at the beginning of the project and that was it! He took care of every aspect every step of the way. The next thing we know, we have a brand new roof installed and our house surroundings were cleaned like nothing ever took place at all. Due to the hail storm in April 2020, our home received serious damage to the roof and gutters. Gabe and Mike from Colonial Remodeling took the time to show us where the damage was on our home and gave us great service with getting a new roof and gutters. Colonial Remodeling recently performed a roof replacement for us due to extensive hail damage.

Our insurance company was exceptionally difficult to deal with in obtaining funding approval. These efforts included three
inspections/assessments and numerous phone calls.

Frank Kang’s involvement and leadership was absolutely key in directly interfacing with our insurance company and obtaining funding approval.
His excellent communication/interpersonal skills and extensive knowledge of roofing enabled him to be successful. Without Frank’s involvement I do not think funding approval would have been obtained.

Frank was also very effective working with and, coordinating with the Colonial Remodeling back office team. They prepared cost estimates and successfully negotiated numerous items with the insurance company. Additionally, all aspects of the project were managed professionally and efficiently. The roof replacement
was completed on time and on budget.

Worked with Frank Kang and he was very fair and reasonable going over every detail of the job and associated costs. Hard to find an honest roofer nowadays, but Frank was straight with us and provided the dimensional quality roofing we wanted totally meeting/exceeding our expectations. We had our house and two sheds reroofed and they look great. I would recommend Colonial Remodeling to anyone!

I was very disappointed with this company. I had to ask for every update, and was so confused with what was happening. Then they started the process for our siding and roof months ago and somehow just recently got the information for our siding, so now it’s delayed for this process to go on for 2 more months at least. I’m sure we could have found better in the area.

We had some wind damage to our roof from some recent storms and I wasn't sure of the best way to get our roof fixed. I just happened to bump into Frank Kang and did he make it easy. So glad I met Frank...he was very knowledgeable, courteous and available. He showed up on time and kept us aware of what was going on. The team took only 1 day to install our new roof...and stayed well after dark using flashlights to clean up. Great job Colonial Remodeling.

Frank did a great job working with our insurance to have our roof replaced after storm damage. He is very knowledgeable and made the whole process a breeze. The installation crew did a nice job too. I was worried about a mess with nails afterwards but they did an excellent job cleaning up!

Very professional service!!!!!! Mr. Frank Kang came by my house about a month after a pretty bad hail storm in our area and immediately noticed some hail damage to my roof and gutters. Mr. Kang assured me as a homeowner for only 5 years that the process for repairs was going to be painless. I originally had my doubts as home repair services don't alway go as smoothly as one may think. Mr. Kang kept in constant contact with me throughout the process to include dealing with my home insurance. Topped it off with a discount. Mr. Kang sent an outstanding team of roofers who were not only professional and detail oriented, but timely. They even cleaned up behind themselves. I definitely know who to reach out to for any roof and gutter repairs as my roof never looked so good and it is finally within code. Only came out of pocket the amount of my deductible! We had a awesome and smooth process. We didn’t know what to expect or what to do with the storm damage. We got in contact with Frank from Colonial Remodeling and he walked and guided us all the way through the process and that’s why it was very smooth thanks to him. Avoid at all costs. They contract everything out. They contract with unskilled workers who have to come back repeatedly.

Storm damage that occurred in April, 2020 is just now being finished.
Lack of good subcontractors and lack of communication within the company and to the customer is ultimately lacking. Knowledge of how long something actually takes to get it right seems to be their biggest problem as well as hiring subcontractors that do know how to do the job correctly.

Their subcontractors caused more damage to our home than the actual storm. We have had mishap after mishap....their subcontractor caused a ceiling leak, the roof job was deemed poorly after inspection and had to be redone, trash and nails left in our yard both times, poor caulking around doors, unable to put on a door knob and door key pad correctly,....and the list goes on.

Although the team managers are empathetic, the company leadership does not seem to care. I do not recommend their services for anything that requires attention to detail.

Normally I don’t feel comfortable with contractors and I see why . They started on my house early Summer and they just now finishing until Nov. They bugged me about paying them for a job that was not finished it was just more nerve racking then I expected. Not to mention I have nails everywhere in my yard and shingle thrown from the roof stuck in trees. Next time someone comes to my door trying to do work it’ll be a automatic no and whatever needs to be done I’ll get my own contractor. They want you to pay ASAP but don’t finish the job ASAP . Typical !!!!

It was a true pleasure doing business with Frank and Colonial Remoldeling. Frank did an exceptional job of explaining the scope of work to be done and he was always prompt to reply to any questions we had. The new roof and drip edge, gutters, and trim look beautiful and was completed in a timely manner. Very happy with the work and would recommend to anyone.

I am always a bit skeptical when it comes to working with construction companies and contractors, but was very pleasantly surprised with the experience with Chas and Colonial Remodeling. They did an excellent job on replacing our new roof. They helped tremendously in working through the insurance company claims process. We have a fairly large house with a big roof and whole job took one day, start to finish. They showed up around 7 am and 11 hours later by 6 pm the job was done including the cleanup which was impressive. I think I found 2 roof nails on the ground, that was it. I would unequivocally recommend them to anyone.

The renovation took only a few weeks from beginning to end and the work was fabulous. Strongly recommend working with Colonial especially if your insurance is involved.
I look forward to getting my deck down with them in the future now that the rest of my exteriors have been addressed.

Colonial Remodeling has always been prompt and very thorough with all their documentation while we were working with our insurance company on a Hail/Wind damage claim. If it were not for their knowledge on how the process works and what to ask/prove to the insurance company, we would not have had our claim payout increased by $16K.

I would/will go to them first for every remodeling need - I trust their work and honesty!

My home is unique and needed special attention to detail. Planning and coordination were key amongst the different aspects. Colonial came through with a plan and process that worked very well and left my home with the needed updates and exterior facelift.

Steve helped us through out the entire process from filing our claim and meeting with the adjuster to ensuring that all damage on our home was addressed and covered by the insurance company so that we did not have to come out of pocket for anything. He was always early, courteous and helpful, keeping us updated through out the entire process. My rental home caught fire in Arlington Va. in the beginning of this year. I was referred to Colonial Remodeling by my neighbor and I was shocked by my insurance company only wanting to do small repairs on the interior of home which had completely burned from fire. Colonial went to my insurance 3 times and was able to get full approval on the whole interior re-build. Colonial’s reliability and hard work impressed me from day one. Their workmanship, quality and cleanliness was extremely above my expectations. There were zero hiccups thru this whole process and I was able to get my home back up for rent in no time thanks to Colonial!

They were very helpful w settling the claim.. the roof oils amazing.. definitely recommend them to anyone looking to settle their insurance claims.. the work was excellent.

We had major damage due to a leaking dishwasher. They helped us with our insurance claim as well as repairing drywall, hardwood flooring, painting, and carpet. They did a great job!

Our experience started off great with the sales rep Adam. Can't say enough good things about the guy. He was there every step of the way, responded to messages promptly, and truly made the entire experience a memorable one.

The experience ended up being tarnished by the crew lead Eliud. Even though the punch list wasn't done, he asked me If I could close the job with Colonial while giving me "his word" he would come back at a later date to finish. There was no reason to close the job if the job wasn't done. I did him the favor he asked and closed it which goes against how I do things. Mind you this is after 3 separate times of coming back to finish the punch list. Some of the things that were to be fixed on the 3rd visit weren't. One being an area of damaged shingles from the ladder they used.

I hold honestly & integrity at an extremely high level. To be fair, I gave Eliud a month to make good on his word. After several attempts of reaching out with no response, missed appointment and broken promises. It was clear he doesn't take pride in his word nor reputation. I don't have the time or patience to chase someones word. At the end of the day, all we have is our reputation.

The craftsmanship & attention to detail I expected just wasn't there. So many little things were overlooked and neglected. They cut one of our phones lines and reinstalled the box empty to make it look like the line was there. One set of cable lines I specifically said not to cut ended up getting cut but was told they didn't. Verizon was kind enough to only charge us for one of the lines being reinstalled. That is money wasted and time out of our day. On top of that, there is now a bigger hole where the new cable line was installed into the siding where water can now penetrate.

So many little things to list that could have been avoided if the attention to detail was something that is taken seriously. One little detail that takes away from the beauty of a premium product like James Hardie is all the nail holes in both the siding & trim.

There was an area of damaged wood under the old siding that had fist size holes. Common practice is to replace the damaged area with new plywood. Instead, they left it and installed over it. When I brought this up I was told it's not an issue, that if water gets in then you have a bigger problem. The crew ended up having to come back and patch those holes from inside the attic which still isn't the right way. They also had to come back to clean all the trash on the roof that was left behind. Using a tarp to collect the trash makes life a lot easier and lessens the risk of damaging shingles.

Having been in the industry I'm aware that issues arise and no ones perfect. It's how you deal with those issues that separates you from the rest. Having to come back what would have been 4 times to fix issues is too many. I truly hope my luster experience can help increase the level of craftsmanship & attention to detail. It's all about both parties being happy and creating a memorable experience.

Colonial was great, our sales guy Brian Greer was amazing. If you are considering Colonial remodeling, do yourself a favor and ask for Brian. I live in PA and from start to finish Brian was professional, very quick to respond to ANY questions that we had, and was just a stand up guy. Super happy with our new beautiful roof. They have a punk college kid going around and knocking doors of where local companies in NC have signs in customers yards. All the kid did was bad mouth everyone else that he knows nothing about. His name is Chase Burch. Cops escorted him out of a neighborhood in Garner, NC for harassing homeowners.

They got my info directly from the siding manufacturer that I wanted. Sales person came out on time and did his measurements. He said he would get back to me by Friday or Saturday. It is now Tuesday and haven't heard a word. Pretty much a waste of my time to come home early to meet him.

Ken and Colonial Remodeling was recommended to us by friends when our insurance company threatened to drop us unless we replaced our roof. Any other company would have came out and given us an estimate siding with the insurance company to get paid but not Ken. He visited our home, did a thorough inspection of our roof and informed us the roof was not in the state the company was claiming. Ken really went to bat for us writing up a full report complete with several photos to send to our insurance company to help us fight the cancellation. Ken is quick, caring, efficient and above all, honest. Going forward, whenever we need any type of maintenance on our home we will look no further than Ken and Colonial Remodeling.

I am very happy with the work that Ken Dinkel and Colonial Remodeling LLC did for us recently in connection with identifying hail damage to our home and their work with our insurance company to work out a few wrinkles, mostly due to newer code requirements. Our roof had a lot of damage from the recent windstorm in March ('18) and Gabe was extremely helpful in providing detailed information to us and our insurance company. The entire job proceeded in an orderly and organized fashion, as promised. Upon completion, the costs were as discussed prior to the job start, with no hidden or unforeseen additional costs. I will definitely use this company again as long as Gabe Griffin is on the job! We were about to use another company, whose name I will not mention. However, their customer service skilsl were lacking and showed even before the job started. My neighbor and client referred Gabe to me and had nothing but great things to say about him. From day one, Gabe was forthcoming and open about the whole roofing project and what we could expect. What impressed us the most was how he made appointments to meet with the insurance adjuster while we were on a family vacation. We didn't have to worry about rushing back or cutting our vacation short. He really made the process as stress free for us as possible. There were other things he did to make the process easier for my husband during the time his brother passed away. Our roof looks amazing and we are extremely pleased with the entire experience from start to finish. Did I mention that we didn't have to do any haggling with our insurance company? Colonial Remodeling was contracted to replace my roof, gutters, and downspouts after determining damage from a hail storm in February 2017. This work included repainting my master bathroom after a leak developed in the ceiling from the damage and replacing the roof on the gazebo on my deck. They worked with my insurance company and I all along the way and were very prompt with returning my phone calls, discussing what was to be done, and cleaning up the yard after each phase of the work completed. I was impressed with the professional and quick painting of the bathroom and thoroughness of the workers to ensure a proper job was done. I was very happy with the results and plan to use them again to do further home improvement projects around my house.

My experience with Colonial Remodeling was outstanding to say the least. I worked with Ken Dinkel and Tom Draghi. Colonial did an excellent job with our roof. What made the experience 5 stars was our consultant. Ken Dinkel was the reason I went with this company. After a hail storm he was driving by and got out of the truck and talked with me. He was never pushy, always explained everything well and followed through exactly as he said he would. He came out multiple times during the day when the roof was being installed to check on the progress and see how I was doing. The roof was done in a day, they replaced some screens even though they didn't have to and were an absolute pleasure to work with. I referred Ken to 3 of my neighbors. He also spotted one shingle that was sticking up a bit. A few weeks later there was a knock on the door and two of his crew were at the door to fix it and make sure everything was ok. Top notch group and Ken still follows up with me on occasion. Honest, trustworthy, dependable, and perform quality work...what else could you ask for?!

Well they did the work and for the price that insurance told them too. That's about all that I can say. We live in a townhome with a dog and a backyard. Nails everywhere. EVERYWHERE. We hope we didn't run them over with our tires and thankfully the dog didn't get herself hurt.

Not to mention, thy had every excuse in the book to not show up when they said they would. It has taken about 45 days to get the work done. And we haven't even signed the closing documents. Looking forward to being done with it.

If I could rate Colonial Remodeling any higher, I would. We were referred to them when our original company decided that our job wasn't worth doing. The sales manager, Chas Kulbok, was very knowledgeable when it came to products, installation and especially dealing with the insurance company. We had our roof replaced as well as some soft metals that had been damaged in the hail storm. We also had both our front and back doors replaced. The crew was meticulous in detail, tidy and punctual. I would not hesitate recommending them to anyone who needs quality remodeling work.

I’m a novice when it comes to home remodeling and the whole process is so overwhelming. But Colonial Remodeling’s team was there with us every step of the way. I felt all my questions were answered and I never felt pressured. The selection is top notch! We bought a very old home and it needed some TLC. They put in all new windows and redesigned our porch and the work is beautiful! It’s like a brand new home and our friends still rave about it. The work was on time.
