I started talking to Joel with Coghlan on December 30, 2024. He came out to my house, I showed him everything that needed work and when the estimate was originally submitted I was pleased with the price. Unfortunately, Joel ended up handing me over to Dan to complete the quotes and get the work started. Dan did not reply to emails or texts in a timely manner. When he was supposed to come over to pick up the down payment he never showed. He said he'd get it the day they started. Monday, Jan. 27, 2025 rolls around--the day they're supposed to start. Dan shows up with two guys and as we're discussing what needs to get done that day it became apparent that Dan had not paid attention to previous conversations, did not include some of the necessary work in the scope, and was going to raise the price for the work. When I told them to leave, one of the men Dan brought with him got in my face, and insinuated a threat by telling me he was a former police officer.

The deck that was stained was nicely done. However, the painter cleaned his brush from an earlier job (somewhere else) and made a mess of some pine straw and the rocks surrounding a statue. That was not appropriate.

The cost was competitive, and the quality of the work was excellent. The team was punctual (2 day job) and very personable. We have hired Coghlan Enterprises for a major kitchen cabinet restoration (late Aug-early September timeframe) and will likely look to them for an exterior paint job futher down the line. They are local (Toano) and very professional.

These guys are great. They showed up on time and were polite and clean. They did a wonderful job, worked like a well-oiled machine, cleaned up and left. The owner came out and checked on the work. Definitely hiring them again to do more rooms. I have had other painters and this company beats them all.

Pat and his “crew” were fantastic, being new to the area you never know who to trust, but this group stepped in and helped make our new house a home!
They were prompt, professional, and truly care about their craft! Would highly recommend

Coghlan Enterprises works with integrity, professionalism, respect, and excellence! We have had our exterior painted, interior painted, kitchen updated, and fascia boards repaired after a leak in the roof. All the employees are honest and show up on time...they go above and beyond with the work they perform. We highly recommend Coghlan Enterprises!

Five stars from the get-go through to clean up.

First to respond to my request for an estimate on my job. Pat C. wore a mask and walked through the project - a stairwell and hallway.

Expected at 8AM, crew was unloading outside my door at 7:50. They protected the floor by the door and, of course, the entire floor along the hallway and stairwell. Joel and his partner were friendly and conversational and wore face coverings the entire job. More importantly, they communicated well about the color match not being perfect and (most importantly) did a fantastic job - nice clean edges. No rushing. Still, they were packed up and out in just 3 hours.

Service questions
1. Should I stay home during roof replacement?
+-

It's not necessary to stay home during roof replacement. Roofing work is noisy and can cause vibrations inside the house, which might be uncomfortable. Most homeowners choose to leave during major parts of the project, but our team ensures safety and keeps you updated, whether you're home or not.

2. How long does roof replacement take?
+-

The timeline for a roof replacement typically ranges from one to three days, depending on the size and complexity of the roof, weather conditions, and material type. Larger or more intricate roofs may take a bit longer, but we always aim for efficient, timely completion.

3. How to hire a roofing contractor?
+-

To hire a roofing contractor, start by researching local companies with good reviews and proper licensing. Request quotes from multiple contractors, verify their insurance and certifications, and ask for references. Always ensure you get a written contract that outlines the scope of work, timeline, and payment terms.

4. How to check if a roofing company is legit?
+-

Check if a roofing company is legit by verifying their business license, insurance, and local certifications. Look for memberships in professional associations, read customer reviews, and ask for recent project references. A legitimate company will be transparent and provide all documentation upon request.

5. How to choose a roofing company?
+-

When choosing a roofing company, consider their experience, customer reviews, warranty offerings, and quality of materials. Make sure they provide clear communication, detailed estimates, and a solid portfolio of completed projects. Local expertise is also a major advantage for understanding regional roofing needs.

6. How do you know if your roofing contractor is ripping you off?
+-

Warning signs that your roofing contractor might be ripping you off include vague contracts, pressure to pay large upfront deposits, lack of proper documentation, and unexplained price increases. Always ask for itemized estimates and written guarantees, and avoid contractors who avoid answering your questions directly.
