Amazing. My wife is a realtor in ca so she has seen several reports, none as detailed as this one. We got videos, pictures, 3d photos of every room. Always picked up the and answered all my questions right away. I'm really grateful we were connected with him. I cannot recommend his work and knowledge enough. Especially not knowing much about the area he one of the greatest resources to allow us to make the decision if the house was right for us.

My experience with Allen Canzler and CheckPoint Home Inspections was difficult and unpleasant. While he promptly charged up front for the inspection and did show up on time for the inspection on a Friday, the inspection report that was promised within 24 hours was not delivered until the following Wednesday. Attempts to contact him for an update were not successful. He did not respond to calls, texts or email. When we did finally speak he was rude and verbally abusive. He did not want to answer questions and was not forthcoming about circumstances that delayed his ability to complete the inspection and provide photos. Allen was angry, rude and defensive when questioned about the status of the work and when a report would be issued.
I was fortunate to work with a great real estate agent who was able to mediate and facilitate having Allen complete the inspection.
The final report was adequate but not great.
Based on this experience I caution someone in need of a home inspection to avoid this inspector.

We employed the service of Allen and Checkpoint Home Inspection, LLC on two different houses we were interested in. The first house we passed on and purchased the second.
Every house, even new ones, have issues that need correcting, updating, and upkeep on an ongoing basis. Allen provided an in depth report on the existing problems as well upcoming items worthy of our attention so we were able to prioritize corrective action. My wife and I are in the process of buying our first home and needed an inspection fast. Allen was kind enough to squeeze us into his busy schedule on a short notice. On the day of the inspection, he thoroughly inspected the roof and the exterior and interior of the home but due to some miscommunication was not able to get under the house. He promised he would come back to finish the inspection once we had everything sorted out and sure enough he came back a few days later to finish the job with his rockstar assistant Robby in tow (Thanks Rob!). These guys were friendly, responsive and very professional throughout the process. They were also very generous with their time and seemed happy to share their knowledge with us. Allen is fantastic! We have used him for two different inspections and highly recommend him to anyone needing a home inspection in the north coast area. His inspections and reporting are extremely detailed and he is a pleasure to work with. He gave us a quick call after each inspection to let us know how it went and encourage us to contact him with any questions.

He inspected the first house we put an offer in on and decided to back out after seeing his report. A house that was seemingly move-in ready had a few issues that would have to be addressed immediately (furnace, etc), and others that would mean a lot of money later and potential underlying issues (new siding needed, no flashing on any windows, etc).

Our second house he inspected is a new build that we have been in contract for a couple months on. Knowing how thorough he was on the last house, it is a huge peace of mind having him inspect this new house and only finding a handful of extremely small items, most of which are already being addressed.

I can't say enough good things about Allen. He is so easy to work with and the quality of his work speaks for itself!

Checkpoint home inspections did a totally unsatisfactory inspection. Report documented a lot of obvious problems such as ungrounded electrical, dishwasher drain, missing hardware on deck, obvious rot issues at windows, etc. The Inspector completely missed many big problems including some that are much more significant than anything included in the inspection report. The most significant oversight was an extensive powder post beetle infestation that will require a major rebuild. The inspector also missed roof structural issues leading to persistent wet wood framing, attic and roof venting issues, concrete poured against siding causing a difficult rot issue, and some very questionable structural issues suggesting work done by an amateur or home owner. The inspection report provided by Checkpoint Home Inspections looked long and intimidating, but on closer look, just repeated the same findings multiple times in different categories and didn't contain much substance at all. Would not recommend this company to my worst enemy. The work that I observed can only be described as negligent. It demonstrated a complete lack of knowledge of building construction and common pests associated with residential homes.

Home inspections are so important and can be stressful for sure.
We don't know what we don't know when buying a home, so having someone who can help point out any issues and concerns is crucial.
Having someone who can do so with meticulous detail, while being able to explain the findings in an easy to understand way is a gift.

Allen gives new meaning to the word “professional.” His written report was emailed the same day as the inspection with a follow up call that evening. His report format is state of the art with pictures that have a 360 degree availability with a report that includes every detail for the prospective home buyer. Honestly, I have never experienced such a thorough report and I have had several in my life. A real pleasure working with Allen!!

Allen and his assistant Kevin were both very thorough and detail oriented, they arrived prepared to go to work ….. they walked and videoed the roof, they inspected, made a video of the crawl space and attic checking heat ducts, insulation, wiring and plumbing in places we probably will never go!
They operated appliances, checked smoke and CO2 alarms, furnace, water heater, all appliances ….. the list of things they checked is endless and very comprehensive.

I recently needed a home inspection in Astoria and Allen was excellent to work with and is an absolute pro! Within moments of us booking our home inspection online he called to check in and acknowledge the appointment. Allen worked closely with our Realtor to arrange everything and he even has a sewer scope which most inspectors don't and that saves you having to book and additional inspection with a plumber! The report was awesome and included videos and pictures and a breakdown of everything.
