Cato Roofing has done two jobs at my home, the 1st in 2022, when my garage roof lost some shingles after a storm, the 2nd time in 2024, when Cato Roofing replaced the same garage roof. In 2022, Cato Roofing showed up amazingly soon after a wind/rain storm on the coast, when they must've gotten many calls, & repaired my roof quickly. It didn't leak again. In 2024, Phil, owner of Cato Roofing, made an appointment to provide an estimate, his people showed up on time & provided an estimate a little lower then the other roofer I'd asked for an estimate. In addition, the roof's fascia boards need repair. Phil noticed characteristics of the boards & their installation that the other roofer hadn't, those features made it difficult for Cato Roofing to repair the boards--so he provided me with a referral. The gutter was cleaned and a couple of useful modifications done. The roof was finished on time; cleanup was very good to excellent. I waited to do a review until there'd been a few heavy rains, plus one rain storm with strong winds. The roof hasn't leaked, no shingles dislodged: the roof looks fine. I strongly recommend Cato Roofing for roof repair and replacement.

My family’s house has had issues of a water leak for quite some time coming in from around our wood stove pipe. Cato Roofing was recommended to us to use to get this issue on our roof handled quickly and without issue. I was pleased to see how quickly they responded and how fast they were able to get out to the house and look at the issue and fix said issue. I am glad to know they were able to share pictures of the issues so that we could see what was going on as well. I would definitely recommend them to anyone that needs work done on their roof.

My husband and I have been struggling with roof issues ever since having a different company put on a new roof in 2019 (that company is now out of business, naturally). After the first big rain this fall, we found a leak coming into our upstairs bathroom. Phil was super responsive and was out within a week to fix the issue. Phil was even thoughtful enough to follow-up with us after additional rainfalls to ensure he solved the problem. We have been impressed with Cato Roofing and just regret we didn't have him put our roof on back in 2019.

I hired Cato Roofing this summer to re-roof our garage. Phil and his crew did an excellent job. The previous owner had built the garage back in late 1980s with a wood shake roof, but did not put any felt underneath. Of course there was some serious dry rot. When I bought my home in Newport, I was told there was plenty of life left in the roof. It looked that way from the street, but when I had Cato Roofing out to remove some moss, I discovered from photos he took while inspecting the roof that the granules covering the asphalt tiles were coming off the back side where the sun beat down on it all day, exposing the underlying felt to Newport's heavy weather. Phil Cato helped me choose the new roofing materials, wrote an estimate, and patiently guided my color choice to ensure the best curb appeal. We had such stormy winter weather that I had to wait a few months, but the wait was well worth it! Phil kept monitoring my roof, and when the sun broke through for a few days, Cato Roofing's great crew arrived on schedule to completely tear off the old roof and install my new roof. His crew started the job on Wednesday and finished Monday. Ordinarily, it would have taken only until Friday, but my house needed some extra work on the unconventionally-built back soffits, which added an extra day. I am thrilled with my new roof, the crew did not trample my blooming flowers, and they left the grounds immaculate. A new roof is an important investment, and it is critical to choose a professional, experienced company. I'm so glad to have relied on Cato Roofing and, as a result, now have a quality, wonderful-looking new roof dressing up my house!

Phil (owner) responded to a phone message. Phil asked to communicate using text. I sent contact information and roof location. Good response in the beginning. Said he’d call to arrange a time to do a quote. He didn’t call. Said he’d do a quote on Tuesday without me on site. I expected quote last week. Didn’t get a quote.

Phil called recently to apologize for the communication issues incurred a few weeks ago.

Exactly one year after Cato Roofing first showed up at my 1967 house that I’d just bought and the roof was leaking, I got an entire new roof, new flashing and a Velux tunnel light in my dark bathroom! We’ve had three heavy rains, hail and snow since, and not a single leak!

For the last year while it was raining sideways, I had leaks and more leaks and they were always there doing patchwork to get me thru the rainy season. Then with a late start to summer this year, last month he saved my house from more damage!

I went thru a ring of bad contractors in the last year, but this guy stuck it out. His crew was professional, courteous and we even had fun for the 3 days while peeling of a botched roof and putting a new one on.

Despite this being his super-busy season—no rain, so lots of roofs—he treated us as if our concerns were his top priority. (When we did have enough rain to activate our leak in the kitchen, he showed up to tent the area until they could return to replace the roof!) His crew is hard-working, personable, and conscientious. We used Cato roofing to reroof our home in early 2021 after experiencing winter storm damage. It was a stressful time for us as we had water leaking in and damaging our ceiling and walls. Despite multiple jobs occurring at the same time (think Oregon Coast winter major storm), Phil made time to secure our roof and keep us updated with details of when work would be conducted and completed.
The scope of work on our repair grew while they were completing the job (due to prior poor construction) and Phil was good about explaining our options and the risks/benefits of each choice. Ultimately the job cost substantially more than we wanted but that is due to mistakes made by prior contractors and the cost of materials increasing during the pandemic.
Just under a year after completion we ran into additional problems, due again, to the initial build of our house. Phil was very responsive to our calls and took time to research how to resolve our unique situation. Additional repairs were completed rapidly and Phil has been great about checking in to ensure that the problem has been completely resolved.
We will continue to use his business for our roofing needs. He and his team do good work, and Phil works hard to ensure customers are satisfied.

Phil Cato and his crew replaced our roof about 6 months ago. From the moment we contacted him his response was timely and the quote was very reasonable. His crew did a great job. They showed up on time, were clean and tidy and very efficient with their time. They were just genuinely nice guys as well. Fast forward 6 months, we still have not one complaint. We have had a lot of winter rain and endured some pretty good Oregon Coast wind storms and the roof has not had one issue. Our neighbors watched the great job they did and are currently making plans to have Phil come replace their roof too. We cannot recommend Cato Roofing enough. They are a great asset to Lincoln County.

After an unexpected and unusual roof leak issue, Phil and his crew diagnosed the problem, consulted with materials manufacturer and completed a complicated repair successfully. While wet weather delayed the final repair, Phil made sure the area was tarped completely preventing further interior damage and checked in after a big storm to make sure all was well. Much appreciated.

I recently had a water leak in my roof so I called Cato Roofing and spoke with Phil (the owner) who took the time to understand the problem, then quickly came over with his assistant to fix the source of the leak and get the issue under control. Phil did an outstanding job fixing the roof leak, was very clear on what needs to be done, how much it will cost, etc. The following month, I had another leak issue. I called Phil again who came the next day to get that issue resolved as well. I can't say enough good things about Phil, his character and work ethics. We had a really bad storm recently and the roof leaked in the garage. We contacted Cato Roofing and he came out quickly for an inspection and found we had a bad installation of a flashing and a random hook in the roof that was holding up the flashing for no reason. Phil came to the rescue! Removed the hook, repaired the flashing (like it should have been done to begin with) and reshingled the area.

When I do my own repairs, I take great care, and using Phil and Co. felt like an extension of my own care to my house. There is no way to recommend them more and I'm thankful I found them.

He also inspected the roof and let us know everything about it, from galvanized nails, to a second layer to the roof being sealed for the time being. I'm sure we will have to replace it one day, and my only call will be to Cato Roofing to do the job. Thanks again!!

I had problem with shingles flying off my old roof. I had a roofing company from Eugene coming out to fix the roof but the replacement shingles kept flying off. I finally contacted Phil through a real estate agent’s recommendation. Phil and his crew came out and did a solid repair of the roof.

I subsequently used Phil and his crew to replace the roof. They did a great job and were very professional. There was a shingle shortage because of the pandemic. The shingle color that I wanted was not available but Phil found an alternative color which turned out to be a good match for my house. Phil’s price was also competitive compared to other companies. There was a price increase after the initial quote but it was because of the material shortage in the pandemic and not Phil’s fault.

I am glad that I used Phil and his crew. I was going to use an out of town company since the previous owners recommended that I stay away from local companies since they had “nothing but trouble”. They didn’t tell me which company but it must not be Phil and his crew. I can’t recommend Phil and his crew highly enough. They are superb.

I wish there were 10 stars. Five stars is just too low! Phil Cato and his crew are remarkable. It's always painful to pay for a new roof. But after meeting Phil and then his professional group of men, I was immediately at ease with this investment. Yes, I ended up with a 30-year roof that is perfect in every sense and I suspect it will be the last time I ever need a roof. But it's the details that are impressive. They arrive on time. They are clean cut and courteous. They never stand around talking, they are working the entire time. There is no loud music, no swearing and joking going on. Just making quick work of removing the old roof and putting on the new one. Phil was in constant contact with me with anything he found he felt was concerning. The debris from removing a double shingled roof was massive. But after the first day, I went out to check on things and everything, every tiny piece of debris, paper, or nail was gone. Their tools were placed in an orderly fashion waiting for the next day and my yard looked better than before they started. Day 2 once again they arrived on time and went at it. And again at the end of the day, nothing remained in my yard that appeared to indicate anything was happening to my house. Day 3, the job gets done. Phil even comes by for one last inspection after hours just to make sure I'm happy. That's the key - they actually care if the customer is happy. And my yard was swept, blown, even checked with a magnet for any nails. You would never know they were here - except for the beautiful new absolutely perfect roof I now have. And I know if a problem developed - which is highly unlikely - Phil would be over here in a heartbeat to fix whatever it was. Phil Cato's work is his best advertisement. Remarkable company, run by a really professional and remarkable guy. Thank you Phil and Cato Roofing! I'm only sorry I don't have a few more homes that need roofs!

Phil and his crew did an amazing job replacing my roof! He found some small areas of dry rot and contacted me to discuss the repair he needed to do. Was always responsive to all my inquiries and very open communication from the estimate to the completed job! There were never any surprises and his pricing was great. I can’t speak highly enough about Cato Roofing. I contacted them due to missing shingles after the winter storms. Two days later Phil came by to assess the damage and quote a price for repairs. That was on a Friday. The next morning he was here to do the job! Talk about service! I haven’t had any contractor respond so quickly since moving here ten months ago. Virtually all other contractors, and there have been several, say they can do the job I need done for several weeks or months. Additionally, Phil is personable and doesn’t try to over sell. He took photos of the areas needing replacement and quoted a price. None of the usual scare tactics that some other roofers use to convince you that you need an entire new roof. Cato roofing replaced an old cedar shake roof with new composit tiles for us and did a great job on a really tricky roof, finishing in half the time we were expecting. Was easy to work with, always fast to reply to calls and texts. They actually responded and fixed a leak issue that was adjacent but unrelated to their work the same day we called about it.
