Capital Improvements (Sliding Door Installation)

Capital Improvements offers a range of home improvement services, each managed by specialized project managers. I initially contacted the owner, Pat, for a quote on a different project, but ultimately decided to hire them for two different projects: a deck and a sliding door installation.

Jason, the project manager for door installations, met with me to discuss various door options and outline the installation process. My ProVia Endure 2-Lite Patio Door with Internal Blinds was installed by Ivan and another team member.

Before the installation, I had some reservations due to a negative review from another customer regarding their door installation, and there were also a few issues with the earlier deck project. While the deck and door installations are handled by separate teams, these concerns initially left me with a less-than-ideal first impression of the company.

However, I'm pleased to say that the door installation itself went flawlessly. I believe I had a different installer than the customer who posted the negative review. Ivan, my installer, was highly knowledgeable and experienced, and it was clear he took pride in the quality of his work. The entire process was completed in a single day, and I'm very satisfied with the results.

After the project was finished, Jason followed up to check on the installation. I wasn't expecting a follow-up after the project was completed, but I appreciated it.

Capitol Improvements was recommended by a friend for roof repair, and we're happy with the results and the more reasonable cost. We'll be getting our windows replaced by CI next.

We have a flat roof and two skylights. One of which is was leaking. Lance can and assessed the issue and provided very affordable options to stop the leak and seal the roof completely. Seth and crew completed all the work on schedule. When the work was completed, they cleaned up all trash and replaced everything they had to move.

Our experience with Capitol Improvements was wonderful from first inquiry to installation. We were very happy with their attention to detail and engagement. You can tell they are a local company, not a big, corporate monolith that doesn’t value the customer. They gave us a fair price for a door and install almost identical to a competitor who came in higher. They were super communicative, and we are thrilled with our new door!

Capitol Improvements recently installed a new door for my home in Washington, DC. I researched and spoke with a few different companies for the project, and ultimately decided to go with Capitol Improvements because they were the most competitive (cost-wise) and very personable. Ultimately, I’m so glad we went with them because they were great throughout the entire process. It does feel like a family business but run very professionally, so you get the best of both worlds. They were very communicative and available to answer any questions. I interacted with several members of the team, who were all stellar. The owner Pat also called before and after the installation to check in, which I appreciated. We love our new door — great product and installation was a breeze.

Big shout outs to Jason, Seth, as well as the gentleman who installed our doors and the other gentleman who came after for a few touch-ups (didn’t get their names). This is our second time working with Capital Improvements. They did our roof in 2020 and this time they did our deck. Sadly I don't have the before pictures. I can't speak highly enough about this company and the owner Pat. The work they do is always top notch and high quality. Communication is great. Our deck was completed in 4 days from tearing down our old wood one to building the new one with the weather treated material. Sorry I don't know the name of the material but what I do know is that it looks beautiful. We’ve received so many compliments. We will most definitely hire them for the next project.

Needed 6" Gutters ond Gutter Guards installed on my home to replace my older ones. Met owner Pat who personaly came to my home and provided me a competitive estimate for my project,. Pat was very professional and knows his stuff. After the project was completed, I was very satisfied with the install. Shortly after the install, I noticed one edge of my gutter guards had a slight opening that may allow birds to nest. I notified Pat and he scheduled his technician Ron to come out shortly after and in no time, he took care of it. Part 1 - Absolutely My #1 Trusted Roofing Company in the Market
This review is long overdue; however, I wanted to make sure I took the time to give Capitol Improvement the accurate and thorough review that they deserved for their hard work on our new TPO roof they installed.
In Spring 2023, I started performing market research on various roofing companies in the DC Metropolitan area. This was a very time-consuming endeavor for which I ultimately received roughly nine (9) quotes/bids and determined four (4) or the nine (9) to be competitive and capable of meeting our specifications. Subsequently, you guessed, Capitol Improvement was awarded the project and met the requirements with no delays, no games and no hidden fees or added cost.
How it started… From the submission of the quote, the Owner, Pat was responsive and available to answer all my questions. He was transparent from the start and explained in detail the cost, warranties and even walked me through the comparison of the different material options to help me gain an understanding of the lifecycle and quality of the different roofing systems. It is with true confidence, I can say that Pat has built his family owned business on the core principles of customer service, strong business ethics, honesty and fairness. These attributes are becoming obsolete in today’s market; however, Pat has managed to instill in his two (2) sons Austin and Lance these principles.
Which brings me to the initial site visit with the Project Coordinator, Lance, who truly exemplifies professionalism, expertise and most importantly the skill sets to build a trusting relationship with the customer. I never felt pressured to move forward and every question was met with an answer I could trust and the rationale or documentation to support the response. If ever there was something that Lance could not provide a response or was outside of his expertise; he would immediately contact the subject matter expert and/or research the matter and provide a clear and concise response. During the course of our interaction, I never felt doubtful or apprehensive with the information provided or work being performed. Lance took the time to review the details of the proposal and warranties; in addition to negotiating the terms or the contract he provided copies of all certifications, business licenses, certification of liability insurance and all other pertinent documents. Honestly, I did not have to ask for any required documentation and everything was timely and legitimate. Pat’s words held true, that Capitol Improvement operates with integrity and commitment partnering with their customers to get the job done.
This was also reflected in my interaction with the Install Manager, Seth and Site Manager, Sam. From day one (1) of the staging and prep for install, which started in October 2023, they literally walked me through the project step-by-step. From assessing the roof original state, taking photographs for record to conducting the initial inspection of the roof to explain the demolition. There was no stone left unturned. As with any project, as issues or concerns were discovered after removing several layers of the original material, which could not have been foreknown, the Site Manger would immediately stop work, notify the Install Manager and myself and ensure all changes/modification were approved prior to moving forward. If impacts resulted in additional cost they were discussed in detail. In one case Pat was willing to share in the cost and find a feasible and cost-effective solution. The entire process was well documented and communication was clear. The job was completed in the time frame estimated and every employee and team member were professional, polite and each day made sure no trash or debris was left on-site. Every team was considerate of the noise-level and was here to provide quality service. Seth and Sam, are definitely a representation of the employees who strive to get the job right, take pride in their craftmanship and aim to please. Part 2 to follow...

This is my second time using this company and they still impress me. Ryan did a fantastic job on the Coil work replicating the look of wood. I can't even tell the difference between real wood and the coil. The team showed up on time and they left my property clean upon departure. Everything was communicated well to me from start to finish. Pat was great to work with like always, he makes you feel like family. I highly recommend them.

Capitol Improvements, a local, family-owned company, did an excellent job replacing a Mansard roof and front gutter and downspout on a townhome in Crofton. When interviewing companies, Pat Jewell met me at the site and clearly explained to me what did (and did not) need to be done and made sure the quote was at a very fair price that would meet the budget. He then stayed in contact with me throughout the process - such consistent communication was greatly appreciated. Seth Wood, the install manager, kept me informed about the timing of the work and delivery of materials during a very rainy period (always a challenge in roofing) and did an outstanding job explaining to me what the crew found when the old roof was removed and the repairs needed to address those issues - his guidance was invaluable. Finally, the craftsmanship the roofing crew and the gutter team displayed installing the new roof, gutter and downspout was first-rate. I definitely will retain Capitol Improvements for future work.

John Brill and his crew are exceptionally skilled at creating patios, I had a patio built by Capitol Improvements and I am thrilled by how it came out. John really knows what he is talking about and make all the right recommendations with what I wanted done. These are definitely the people to turn to if you want a patio done it very much worth it and it did not cost a fortune either.

Our condo board/hoa hired them do a TPO roof on our building, they did great work and very efficient. Look forward to working with them more in the future.

He was able to help us understand the insurance claim process and how to effectively manage the roof replacement process. We were so pleased with the work that we also had them do our gutters.
