This review is long overdue! When we bought our house, we knew that the porches needed a lot of work. The decking showed signs of significant rot from years of deferred maintenance, the porches needed new joists, the base of one column was spongy with rot, and the stairs needed railings. In addition, we wanted to replace some deteriorating, rotting siding on our garage before painting.

We received several quotes from other companies last year, and although BRJ's (comprehensive) proposal was on the higher end, they were the only ones who suggested a solution that would both preserve the character of our porch while providing the long-term stability that we desired. Rather than patch the column base with epoxy or filler, they jacked up the roof, removed the column, and fabricated a new base out of cedar with molding that is identical to the original. When it turned out that more decking needed to be replaced than originally anticipated, they were creative in their solutions to prevent us from going over budget with the added materials cost, but not before first bringing the issues to our attention.

Ben and his crew (Neil and another man whose name slips my mind) were all extremely professional, polite, and communicative. They left the site spotless every day. It was a pleasure to work with BRJ Builders and I highly recommend them for your next home project.

Ben and his crew were awesome at building a new bulkhead for us from scratch, replacing our century old one. They rebuilt parts of the foundation that were deteriorated and added drainage to improve the water protection, on top of the new doors. They fit us in between bigger projects and were still done within a week. Would highly recommend for any home improvement projects, big or small!

Ben and his team were the absolute best - we definitely lucked out choosing BRJ Builders. Always professional, Ben genuinely listened to our thoughts and ideas and was super easy to work with overall. Any questions we had were always addressed in a timely manner, and we very much appreciated Ben's ongoing communication and our inclusion throughout the entire process. A SMALL job with BIG results!
It was time for us to update and upgrade the second-floor bathroom that was built into our 1875 house during the 1970’s. From our first meeting it was clear that Ben is thorough, knowledgeable, organized, a good listener, and a problem solver. Ben’s proposal included an itemized listing of each aspect of the work with anticipated costs for each. This was a helpful reference throughout the project along with the BuilderTrend website used for record keeping and communications.

The BRJ Builders team members were terrific! Chris was the primary on our project and Josh joined in as needed. Chris’s attention to detail and quality workmanship and Josh’s experience with old homes was a terrific pairing. They communicated well with us and showed great patience with my many questions. We have yet to meet Shauna, office administrator, but it is clear that she plays a key role keeping the operation organized.

The subcontractors Ben brought in for the job shared similar work ethic and approach: they were focused on their tasks, polite, respectful, and experts at what they do. In particular, Billy and Kelly of BK Tile & Stone in Greenfield, are a great team. Billy is a master tiler with 30+ years of experience and Kelly provided us with great advice as we selected tiles from the amazing selection in their shop.

We are ever so pleased with the results of this bathroom renovation and look forward to working with the BRJ Builders team again in the future.

The team of BRJ Builders just finished a complete bathroom remodel for us. The entire experience was amazing. We had no vision for the space. Ben and project manager, Josh, came up with a great design, and the crew (Josh, Chris, and John) executed the plan wonderfully and with great attention to detail and quality! They were very respectful of our space and our time. Just a pleasant group of people to have in your house every weekday for weeks :) Communication was thorough, informative, and timely without bothering us with minutia. Ben was transparent (and reasonable) with pricing, and we actually came in under budget even with a few changes/additional work orders. We're saving up for our next major project!

Ben and his team at BRJ Builders are respectful, highly skilled and great communicators. BRJ Builders completed an entire first floor renovation for me in my childhood home on time. There was a tight deadline and Ben made it work. The renovation consisted of a new kitchen design, converting a bedroom into a walk-in closet and master bathroom, updating the guest bath and custom woodworking details. Ben's strength is communication and his team was an absolute pleasure to work with from the beginning to the end. Ben took great care with my project and made sure the entire property was taken care of. This included creating a swale in the backyard to keep the basement dry while all of my family's furniture was being stored during the 4 month renovation. Not only is Ben supportive, so are his connections. Selecting the tile, appliances, custom kitchen cabinets, lighting and hardware was fun and easy. The project manager Josh created custom woodworking designs for the house that are very personal and I could not thank Ben and his team enough for renovating my childhood home just the way I wanted. When it's time to update the second floor or finish the basement, I will absolutely plan on using BRJ Builders again!

I was very happy with BRJ Builders. I moved into this fixer-upper with good bones in June 2022, signed the contract in early July, and the project was essentially done by end of October -- exterior eaves and trim repairs, rebuilt bulkhead, new front door, complete kitchen remodel, new laundry closet, rebuilt basement stairs, upgraded electrical (for my goal of an all-electric energy efficient house), new water tank, floors refinished throughout, and other miscellaneous stuff. BRJ Builders' standards of quality are high and they take pride in their work. The crew communicated well, which to me is a vital part of any successful project. I experienced excellent project management, reliable scheduling, and steady progress. The crew was pleasant, courteous, and focused on doing a good job. The subcontractors (plumber, electrician, HVAC, floor refinisher, etc.) were universally solid and pleasant. Emerging issues with the water tank were investigated over multiple visits and solved. Owner Benjamin John and his PM were open to discussion, they listened, they addressed my questions and concerns promptly, and in the rare instance of errors (which will always occur in any project), they acknowledged and fixed them. Ben was excellent in brainstorming the design and details of how to make the project suit my vision. My tea station and laundry closet are two examples (see photos). I unequivocally recommend BRJ Builders.

My family and I had a wonderful experience working with BRJ Builders, from start to finish. They were extremely thoughtful, communicative, responsive and professional. They helped us design our deck every step of the way and it came out beautifully. We definitely hope to work with them again and recommend them highly!

BRJ Builders recently replaced the tired wooden boards on our deck with composite. The entire staff was phenomenal! We received a throrough and timely estimate for the project(s) we were considering, Ben (owner) and Josh (lead carpenter) advised us well regarding our options, Ben and Shauna (office manager) came to our house to sign the contract and the work began the next day! John and Shawn (carpenters) were professional, friendly, and easy to be around for 2 1/2 days as they did the work. The project took less time than expected and came in UNDER budget. I highly recommend BRJ Builders! We will certainly use them again for future projects!

BRJ designed and constructed a new deck for us and did a fantastic job. They worked with us to develop a design that was just what we hoped for, and were attentive about staying within our budget. Everyone was professional and punctual, and Ben kept in touch with us throughout the whole process. The entire construction was completed in under 2 weeks, which was great. We're extremely happy with the new deck and the experience as a whole. Highly recommend.

We feel so lucky to have found Ben and his team. BRJ installed a stunning fence for our backyard, patched up and re-rolled very shoddy roof work from previous owner, and helped us safely tear down an old exterior structure. Ben and his team were friendly, knowledgeable, very punctual, and patient with us as we tried to figure out what exactly we wanted. We are looking forward to working with them on our future interior and exterior projects. Our dogs are loving their newly fenced yard.

BRJ builders remodeled two bathrooms in my house and I was very satisfied with the work they did. Owner Ben John provided clear and detailed itemization of the components of the work and the costs associated with each. He organized the sequence of tasks so there was little delay between each step. He engaged highly skilled contractors for tiling, plumbing, and electrical work, and his own staff was not only skilled but just plain nice. I recommend BRJ to others considering similar projects in their homes.

We began our project in the midst of the pandemic. Our meetings on site with BRJ were masked and over zoom, and still, BRJ Builders did a masterful job of communicating, organizing and carrying out the renovation of our 1916’s bungalow.

They rebuilt the crumbling corner of the foundation, shored up a large wrap around porch, patched siding, reconfigured the interior, coordinated the installation of a new kitchen and bath, and left the place looking fantastic!

The owner, Ben John, is particularly good at communication and organization. He also has a lifetime of working on housing sites in many capacities which gave us great confidence in his ability to oversee all parts of this total renovation.

As a couple of DIYers, we could be hard to please but not with BRJ. They were great!

I used BRJ Builders as my contractor for an extensive home kitchen and 3 bath renovation. It was a complex project. I had a designer involved and there was tile work, plumbing, wall removal and lots of electrical work. I had specified very specific materials that were probably not the easiest to work with.

Ben and his team were incredible. They were highly skilled, efficient and really great people to be around! And this matters! Ben himself is very detail oriented. He will not tolerate imperfections, and he noticed several small ones that I would never have seen myself (and all were remedied of course!)

The project came out fabulously! I highly recommend BRJ Builders if you have a project that needs to be done correctly, and to the highest quality standards.

Last year, we had BRJ Builders come our house to re-do our 1950s bathrooms. They did such a fine job that we had them come back in 2022.
They took out two large banks of windows in our open living/dining room area and put in beautiful new Anderson windows. Also, they painted ceiling and walls of this large space, as well as sanded and refinished the oak flooring, which was stained and worn.
They did additional work patching and painting our kitchen ceiling and replaced worn out interior doors throughout the house.
Ben and his crew are professional, respectful, and skilled. Their work reflects the obvious pride they take in their work. I would happily call them again future projects.

My experience with Ben and his crew was that they were a pleasure to do business with from the beginning. Scheduling of Initial inspection of the job, recommendations and material procurement all were timely and professional. The day of the job his team were courteous and polite and left the job clean. I will work BRJ Builders in the future.

2024-This is the second time Benjamin has helped us with a project. He first built a covered deck which remains our favorite part of the house. More recently he repaired roof damage surrounding a skylight. His team was in and out neatly and efficiently and left the roof area sealed tight. We will always contact Benjamin for any construction issue we have and would highly recommend him to all.

2022-Benjamin was the most responsive to our initial request, and maintained that throughout the project. He is a clear communicator and kept us informed at each phase and let us know exactly what to expect. His crews were always, on time, friendly, polite and always maintained a clean work site. The finished product is so much nicer than we had anticipated. The quality of the work cannot be surpassed. The addition is beautiful! We give BRJ Builders our highest recommendation.

From start to finish we felt confident with Ben, Josh and their crew. Any concerns we had throughout the process were quickly eradicated by their open communication and overall knowledge. Professional, clean, courteous, always available to answer questions and address any possible issues.

Our basement buildout began w a handful of ideas but with their attention to detail, hard work and talented craftsmanship, the most incredible space was created.

BRJ is the second company we hired to renovate a part of our VERY old house. This is the kind of job that very few company want to touch. We will go to them again in a heartbeat. I am not sure if they are the cheapest but they certainly are not the most expensive. Most importantly, they were everything one should expect from a company : knowledgeable, hard working and professional to the end. The crew was very respectful to me (not necessarily the case of all the crew members of the other company we hired). I was skeptical at first when they told us they would do the work during the wintertime. That became a real worry when we discovered that part of our kitchen needed a tear down and complete rebuild complete with pouring cement foundation (which should NOT be done in freezing temperatures). Long story short, they were VERY creative in how to do this rebuild properly and quickly. Ben and Josh are an amazing team, using the perfect balance of technology and good old fashion "savoir faire". And they do not stop once the bill is paid: they follow through and come and fix any detail that need fixing (e.g. some of the cabinet doors were not "perfect" do they applied the warranty of the cabinet builders, had replacement shipped and installed). I wholeheartedly recommend them.

BRJ Builders is the best! Every interaction I had with them was professional, helpful and friendly. The quality of the work was excellent. They are very good communicators, were pleasant to work with, and were very neat. They truly care about their work and the customer's experience. I highly recommend them!

BRJ built me a beautiful deck with a creative and impressive pergola attached. It was clear to me that when I met with them they had been discussing my job and putting a lot of thought into what would work for me. They really listened to me and applied their top notch skills to build me something that would work for my needs. It was notable to me that the crew always seemed happy while they were working. They were always polite and thoughtful. To me that indicates good management. The work was excellent down to the last detail. I absolutely love my deck. I would highly recommend BRJ. They were a pleasure to work with, always responsive and communicated clearly and in a timely way throughout the job.
