I am someone who strives to promote small, local businesses. I feel that we rely heavily on these reviews when making decisions. It's never easy for me to write something less than stellar but in this case, I feel it is deserved and other need to know about the unethical business practices by Bluejay Construction.
We contacted them to get a quote for a small job: a slab and runners for a driveway. The salesperson came out and looked at the job, we discussed what we wanted, exchanged ideas, and were told to expect and email of the quote. We received it in a timely manner. On May 3 we received a quote of $5,675 (at 230p). We made 1 very small change and he requoted us $5,600 (4:04p).We accepted the quote.
Today we received another emailed quote of $6,125- the additional $500 was for "sod removal." We immediately called because this area of new construction has absolutely no sod, it barely has a blade of grass anywhere in the area. We were sure that it was a simple error. My husband spoke with the owner who told us it was "due to the increased cost of concrete material" and he has no control over it. He was never able to explain why it was mislabeled. He was not rude, nor was he nice about it. I decided to give it another try and spoke with him. He was less nice this time and repeatedly threw his employee, Tanner, under the bus for the mistake. I truly dislike when one is so disrespectful to a member of their team.
We withdrew our approval for the job because we feel that when you start out with these issues, before a job is even started, you lose confidence in the quality of work that will be done. Would they find other ways to increase that price? Was this a bait and switch situation? We don't know, but nothing about the interaction we had with this company was positive. If you are looking for a concrete job, I'd strongly recommend calling a concrete company over this generalized construction "business."
This crew did an awesome job! My family needed a repair and they were extremely quick to help. Connor was the sweetest ever!
BlueJay Enterprises Cost Me Over $13,000. Had Blake and his team install pavers. Paid them in full. They had to tear it out and redo it twice and it still wasn't right. Water puddling everywhere and looked like a roller-coaster. Had another contractor finally come look at it and found they had not compacted the wrong size gravel and used the wrong sand. I discussed it with Blake and he agreed to pay to have the other contractor tear everything out again and completely start over to fix his mistake. When the job was finally done correctly and the final payment was due, he stopped answering his phone or returning texts or emails. I am now out over $13k and seeking legal remedies.
