Barrier Roofs

We hired Barrier Roofs in good faith to replace the roof on our large barn, repair masonry, and install new siding on our home after storm damage in March 2023. We paid $105,806.67 for the work. To this day—two years later—we still do not have a leak-free roof. Instead, we have experienced multiple leaks, shingles that don't lie flat, flashing detaching, siding repeatedly popping off, and unfinished masonry.

From the beginning, our experience has been plagued by poor workmanship, questionable billing practices, and a clear lack of accountability. The company attempted to sneak in an unauthorized change order of $8,394.87 after the work was completed—despite our contract stating that decking would be replaced if necessary and the original quote including “all necessary materials.” This change was never communicated or approved prior to the work being done, which is a clear violation of good business practice and contract norms. Only after escalating the matter did they reluctantly remove the charge.

The real issue, however, is the quality of the installation itself. Despite paying over $100k, we have chronic roof leaks, nail pops, and siding that detaches in moderate wind. Barrier has sent crews out several times to "patch" things, but the fixes are temporary at best. Most troubling is their repeated refusal to take ownership of these ongoing failures. Instead of honoring their responsibility, they are now telling us to “contact Owens Corning directly,” as though this were a materials issue. Let me be clear: this is not a materials defect—it is a craftsmanship failure.

We’ve documented every step of this process, including photos, videos, and two years’ worth of emails and texts trying to get this resolved. While some staff, like Viviana, have been professional and courteous, the company as a whole has failed to stand behind its work or provide durable, lasting repairs.

I would strongly caution anyone considering Barrier Roofs to look elsewhere—especially for large-scale projects. If this matter is not resolved soon, we will be filing formal complaints with the Better Business Bureau, state licensing board, and pursuing legal action if necessary. No customer should have to go through this after paying six figures for what should have been a professionally installed roof.

We couldn’t be happier with the roof replacement that Barrier Roofing did for us. The entire process was seamlessly executed. From getting an estimate to choosing the shingles, they were great to work with. We had a couple of weather delays, and the communication through it all was outstanding. On the day of the job, the crew was at our house bright and early, worked joyfully and meticulously, and had both the house and detached garage done by mid-afternoon. Whether it’s repair or replacement, I would wholeheartedly recommend Barrier for your roofing needs.

We called with a problem and Mike Pool came right out. He was very helpful. Ended up being nothing serious this time. I know next time I’ll be calling Barrier Roof of if I ever have a roofing problem.

Had a few shingles blow off my 8-yr old roof and Barrier was quick to respond. Mike was great at explaining the repair and what needed to happen, and even offered to tarp the hole if a crew wasn’t going to be available. Thankfully it was a quick repair and they squeezed us in. Barrier stayed in communication the entire time and I was happy to find a company I can trust. Would recommend

Barrier replaced our almost 20 YO home roof with Owens Corning Dimensional shingles. They started removing the old roof earlier than expected (about 7:20 am), but that allowed them to complete the roof replacement the same day. They were prompt and professional, and our home insurance company even gave us a discount for the new architectural shingles. Ask for Jonathan... he'll take good care of you!

I recently had Scott from Barrier Roofs come out for an inspection. I had a minor leak. He conducted a thorough inspection of our roof and quickly identified the source of the leak. He even provided a fix on the same day knowing rain was on its way and called next day to make sure we were all sealed up. His honesty was refreshing and if I ever need anything else I’ll call back out to him.

I recently had Scott from Barrier Roofs come out for a hail inspection, and while he didn't find any hail damage, he did leave me assured no problems were visible. My roof was still good for awhile. I was almost sure he’d try to sell me a roof, but appreciated his honesty. I did have a chimney issue. Didn’t even know they did masonry work. But his masonry came out and gave me a cap and some tucking and I’m sealed up tight again. Happy I called into Barrier and Scott.

Our community has been using Barrier Roofs for wind/storm damage since 2019 and have always been pleased! I contacted Mike Poole last night about water stains in my unit and a couple of Ridge caps that blew off. True to form he came right out this morning and inspected the ridge, sealed the area and put the caps back on. He also located some loose shingles and ridge vents in the vicinity of the leaks and nailed/sealed around the shingles and vents. This kind of response is what keeps us coming back to Barrier! Triston went way out of his way to work with our insurance company (State Farm) and made sure every last bit of hail damage was taken into account by the independent adjuster. And his follow through was even better. He has incredible roof industry knowledge and equally impressive social/people skills. I know exactly who to go to from here on out. Dalton and Barrier Roofs have been great to work with during our whole roof replacement process. They take care of you and do what they say they’re going to do. I would highly recomend Dalton and Barrier roofs to do your next project!

We contacted Barrier Roofs due to storm damage from previous storms. Dalton came out to access everything and quote for the roof replacement. We already had insurance involved, we needed to find a company the was reliable and honest. Working with Dalton and Barrier Roofs, we found that! We didn’t feel pestered or ignored like some companies made us feel. He was 100% professional, answered all our questions, and worked with our schedule. Both Dalton and Viviana were easily reached and able to get things going. Surprisingly we were able to get the roof replaced earlier than we thought. Thankfully as well, because another storm came through and blew up more shingles, the day before they were able to come.
The crew came out, respected our property, got done quickly and professionally! My neighbor was raving about how quickly they got everything finished. It looks amazing! So happy to have nicer, lasting roof, with a great warranty!

Barrier did an excellent job with installing our new roof. Justin Gillespie, our Barrier representative, provided excellent advice as far as shingle and venting options, kept us informed, and ensured things were done right. After the job was done, he came back on his own to carefully comb the premises with a powerful rolling magnet to make sure there were no stray nails that might puncture lawnmower tires. The crew showed up on time and finished the job in one long day. Emily, the representative at the main office, was easy to reach and returned calls promptly. The new roof looks great. We are very satisfied.

I can't praise Barrier Roofs and Mike Poole enough ( Give that man a raise!) . We argued with our insurance over getting a new roof for the last 9 months. Even though we had so many hoops to jump through, Mike had prepared us for them. Told us what to expect in the process and sure enough he was right! He stuck by us every step of the way, and as soon as we finally got the go ahead from insurance my roof was on within 5 days!

I also can't say enough good things about the crew. When scheduling called she said they would arrive between 7am and 9am ( on a Saturday) and sure enough by 7:04am the first worker was on my roof removing the shingles! They got my house done in one day which also impressed me, but the thing I am most appreciative of, is they went above and beyond to make sure they removed any trace that I had a roof done. This was especially important to me because I have 4 dogs and two kids and nails left behind were a concern of mine. After they left, we ran a magnet over the back yard to make sure there weren't any stray nails that could be stepped on..... not one nail found!!!

Barrier’s representative Scott was very professional, easy to work with, and was able to work with our insurance company to make sure our whole roof was covered by the claim. Initially our insurance only wanted to cover the back slope of our house, less than half our roof, which experienced storm damage. Scott’s continued persistence and industry knowledge saved us thousands the insurance company did not want to initially cover. I had originally worked with a different roofing company and once the insurance came back with their initial assessment, their representative ghosted us and never responded to further inquiry. Scott was able to come in and “save the day”. The installation of the new roof went flawlessly and was completed in a single day. Scott even stopped by to check on the progress and make sure everything was going according to plan. Scott is a true hero in our household, and our wallet, and I would recommend him to all our family and friends for any roofing needs.

Superb experience with Scott McKelway and the entire Barrier Roofs crew. Scott's first visit to my home was very informative, given this was my first time getting a new roof as a home owner. He walked me through all aspects of the insurance process and thoroughly explained all roofing options including installing a ridge line vent, which I had never heard of. He also gave me addresses of several homes with new roofs to drive by to help us pick out a shingle color! The roofing crew led by Pedro was very efficient and did a wonderful job!
