We were in bad need of our kitchen needing remodeled so we hired Back Construction to do the job and so glad we did! We first met with Jonathan Leber who is the Project Developer and explained what we had in mind who in turn introduced us to our team that would be working with us. We met Christine Apple-Schmidt (interior designer) who helped with picking out countertops and tile for the backsplash that my wife and I actually agreed on! Next we met Schon Holman (Project Manager) and Tim Phillips (Carpenter and Drywall) who made everything work and look great! They laid down floor protection and made sure that everything was clean during and after they were finished for the day! Of course with any remodeling projects you’re going to hit speed bumps but Schon and Tim figured it out and made it work! We are so happy and satisfied with how it turned out! We’ll definitely be using Back Construction for all of our future projects!

The Back team remodeled our very rough, unfinished basement into a small apartment with a bathroom, kitchenette, bedroom and living area. We are extremely very pleased with how things turned out. As with any project there were some unexpected things that popped up, but we really appreciate Back's professionalism and consultation throughout the process. Their quote was very competitive, their teams were professional and attentive to detail, and they were very communicative throughout the process.

BACK Construction did an excellent job in the original shower door installation a couple years ago. And when a small leak occurred recently, they promptly came back to repair the problem. Sean was very thorough and conscientious in figuring out how the leak was happening. He was responsive, arrived on time, was personable and easy to work with. I am very pleased with BACK; they have great customer service and stand behind their work. I highly recommend them!

Our experience with BACK has been superb. The house we bought was old, actually quite old, and was in need of not only a specialized update but one done by a company with employees who are not only highly skilled but able to display an understanding of what the customer wants. BACK fulfilled that expectation for us. Mike, James, and Shawn, the main team here, are the best we have seen, let alone worked with. Moreover, they were a delight to be around. Responsive, funny, honest, inventive, Mike, James, and Shawn proved that being in the house nearly every day for about six months is not only not a burden but something to look forward to. Schon and Tim did an excellent job of repairing critter damage to our roof, facia and soffit. They also repaired our front door and installed new railings in the attic. They were very professional, kept me informed every step of the work and used top grade materials. They carefully matched the paint color. They also cleaned up all the mess that is typical with these repairs. I will hire them again when I need work done.

Back Construction resolved decades of water infiltration and damage to the back wall of our house. The vinyl siding was originally installed with no weather seal over the plywood sheathing. They very competently removed the vinyl, sealed the wall, replaced dry rotten wood, and then replaced the old vinyl. All the flashing is now done properly to flow rainwater away safely. That was last year.

Last month they wired a rear doorbell camera where there was no wiring before and snaked it behind that vinyl siding so it’s safe and hidden. I called on them again because they handled the fragile old vinyl so well last year.

They replaced the bell transformer with a higher capacity one. And they helped me wire it into a chime that the bell camera vendor could not describe how to do and didn’t recommend. For me, it was a straight forward electrical problem. Now it works perfectly.

I had Back convert my microwave exhaust system to vent outside. Fortunately some of the infrastructure was already in place, so the job was completed in a few hours on one day. The workman, Tim Phillips, was capable and made sure the system was in good working order. He did an excellent job and left my home as clean as he found it. I highly recommend Back who have done several major and minor projects to my home.

After researching several firms we settled on BACK Construction for our kitchen remodel and are ecstatic that we did. Lost my mirror to one of their company vehicles. Younger guy in his twenties was driving down Russel cave rd driving under the speed limit and jumping from line to line. I decided to pass and immediately as I passed he went over the center line, whether on purpose or not I’m not sure. I stopped and assessed and he even admitted to not seeing me even though I had been behind him for miles! He also admitted that he doesn’t check his rear view mirrors while driving. How do you claim to not have seen me or know what happened yet deny fault?

Joe was prompt in coming to the house and estimating the job for two upstairs replacement windows. Once Back took delivery of the made to measure windows, Kevin got the job scheduled. The installation crew did an excellent, painstaking job of removing the original 1950 windows and of putting in the new vinyl windows. When done, the crew cleaned up inside and out. I am very glad I chose Back Construction for the job.

We decided to move to the area and renovated a 26+ year old home. We gutted rooms, removed walls and changed the floorplans and BACK Construction was OUTSTANDING. Our initial contact was David Toews and after several meetings with him, we were assigned a fabulous team of professionals. Jimmy Shipp was our project manager and was very attentive to what we wanted and coordinated the entire reno while we were living on the East Coast. Kim Luckett, our designer, listened to what we envisioned and made it into a reality, we can’t say enough about her attention to design and detail. Jay, the finishing carpenter, is a true artisan and it shows in our sunroom, family room built-ins, mouldings and all the extra details. Jay and Jake (another finishing carpenter) are the best team out there. Knowing that a picture is worth a thousand words, a few before and after photos.

We have just completed our second project with BACK and I have nothing but the highest praise for the company! The professionalism that they bring to each project through their team is stellar. Thursday evening I came home to a shattered french door. Everyone was closed, but luckily was able to get ahold of someone at Back, and a nice gentleman came within an hour, and secured the door until i could get someone out to fix it. With night coming and storms in the forecast, so grateful he came. He was friendly, and even suggested some businesses who could do the repair.

Back Construction is knowledgeable and professional. Worth the extra cost for all the little extras that can go wrong when doing construction on your home. They put in a skylight for us. Sean, Jason and William did an amazingly thorough and complete job. This kind of customer service is uncommon and it’s what you want when they’re cutting a hole in your roof, moving pipes etc…you really can’t go wrong with Back Construction.

Our total kitchen renovation was completed ahead of schedule and at the projected cost. Back has proved to be perhaps the best and most reliable firm from the initial design to the final nail - in central Kentucky.

We had a large addon done including bedroom extension, bathroom/closet addition. Jonathan Leber and Mike Seelbach were a pleasure to work with and made the whole project run smoothly. Their various crews had full access to our house for months and remained professional and trustworthy for the entire project. I would definitely use them again for extensive addons.

My large rectangular Pella window was leaking at the top and rain water was coming inside the house running down the trim board. I immediately called Back Construction and Joe Henson came right out to diagnose the problem. Their caulking specialist, Schon Holman, was then called in to make the repair. Since Schon did a fantastic job, I asked him to look at the caulking around our cultured marble shower and he was more than happy to take a look. Subsequently, he returned to cut out the old caulk and re-caulk the shower and around the sinks and backsplash. I could not be happier. I needed a change in my bedroom closet. The Handyman of Back Construction, Schon Holman, Sergey Kirilyuk, and William Hundley moved the door, replaced it with a pocket door and moved the outlets quickly and efficiently. The drywall was installed and finished as if nothing had been changed.This was beyond a handyman description. They were all amazing to work with and cleaned up when finished. My thanks to all of them and also to David Towes for helping me to know what changes needed to be done.

Back Construction is the worst!! Joe B. took forever to get back to us with the estimate and didn't do that until after two emails. The estimate for replacing the kitchen floor and two bathroom floors, replace outside window trim and boot two roof vents was over $41,000. I thought I would split the jobs up so that I didn't have that high payment all at once. He took over two weeks and three more emails before he got back to me. He told me that splitting it up would cost me even more?? Anyway his floor estimate was 3 times higher than my other estimates. $19,000+ to replace and paint window and door trim is a bit much. Joe couldn't even answer some basic questions about the floor replacement. WHAT?? That's your job! I'll keep my money and you can look elsewhere for another sucker.

We've used BACK for several projects, mostly recent for a complete remodel of our master bathroom & some interior painting. We have been completely satisfied with all of our projects. All of their crew & the subcontractors were great to work with, very polite & professional, and provided quality work. Communication on the status & the scheduling of the workers was excellent. We highly recommend them.

We turned a screened porch into a sunroom that blends beautifully with the living room. It was a big project and quite expensive. Jonathan worked with us to finalize the design and the timing. The project took about 5 months but results are worth the disruption. Thr crews always were respectful of us and the house and left the work area clean every evening. The attention to detail was great. We are very pleased and will use them again.

Update: Just as that project was finishing up, we has a plugged AC drain in the attic that took out much of our guest room ceiling and even damaged the ceiling in the living room on the lower floor. Well today, the repairs were completed and we are delighted. Tim Phillips and Ernie Clark are first-rate craftsmen, as well as unfailingly respectful and polite. Once again the job sites were clean every evening, the furniture well protected and the results exceeded our expectations. Dave Mullis and Jonathan Leber provided great oversight. Thanks BACK.

My wife and I have used Back Construction previously for various projects. While we were pleased with the other work, they recently did an exceptional job enclosing our covered patio.

From start to finish, the process was exemplary. Wes and Christine did an outstanding job understanding exactly what my wife envisioned and converted the idea to drawings and illustrations. Our project manager (Eric Reynolds) met with us several times before the materials were ordered to ensure the accuracy of all measurements and the best locations for the mini-split, electrical wiring and attic access for insulation. Throughout the project, the entire team (Eric, James and Serge) arrived on-time, worked to minimize disruptions to the rest of our home and cleaned up at the end of each day. The team was pleasant, professional and provided excellent craftmanship with a strong attention to detail. (Note: I have an extremely picky wife!) Eric also coordinated with each sub-contractor (electrical, HVAC and painting) to ensure that the project remained on schedule.

We could not be more pleased with the finished product and would highly recommend Back Construction.

We used Back Construction for our apartment/condo renovation project in Lexington. It was a major and challenging project and Back came through with flying colors. Our PM, Michael, and interior advisor, Kelly, were just amazing at their jobs and went above and beyond to make this project very manageable for us. Highly recommend Back Construction.

I have no complaint about the service that was done. My dissatisfaction is about the money spent for the service received. I got an estimate for a job, which seemed a bit pricey but which I accepted because I was looking to establish a relationship. They ordered the wrong part (hinges), or at least the wrong part came. I also had to call twice about the status of the job (but they were waiting on parts). Ultimately, after the parts finally came, these turned out not to work for the door. So, they used the hinges that were on the door already (as these didn't need to be changed anyway, said the worker). The total work took 20-30 minutes - far shorter than originally anticipated - and the work was far less than indicated in the original estimate. When I disputed the bill, since the cost was very high ($800+ ) for just 20-30 minutes of easy work, I was told that they do not pay their contractors by fractions of hours. When I pointed out that the work completed did not match the description of the work on the estimate, they again argued that they don't pay their contractors by any fraction of hours. I paid the bill in full, but I will not be using their services again.

Friends describe our renovated kitchen as “beautiful”, “expansive”, “bright”, and “not just more functional and accessible but elegant as well”.

We renovated our kitchen, pantry, and adjacent laundry room. Our 22-year-old kitchen was still pristine, however aging and recent surgeries have made accessing items in lower cabinets extremely difficult. Improving accessibility was the main driver of this project. At minimum, we needed additional upper cabinets, deep sturdy drawers in all lower cabinets, well-planned adjustable shelving in the pantry, a door converted to a pocket door, large single-bowl sinks with garbage disposals in kitchen and laundry, under-cabinet lighting, and Instant-hot water tap. Achieving this required all new cabinets, appliances, countertop, backsplash, sinks, faucets, repositioning appliances, tricky complicated reconfiguring of the cooktop downdraft and venting and relocating the blower to the basement to allow custom drawers to be built under the cooktop, rerouting plumbing and wiring, and running additional electric lines from the circuit box in the basement through the finished ceiling to the kitchen. We were terrified!

Wes Dickerson and designer Tarah Carnefix listened attentively as I pointed out the shortcomings of our kitchen and the goals we hoped to achieve. They very thoughtfully made suggestions and demonstrated they understood what we needed and wanted, yet never once pushed or tried to sell me on anything additional. They made multiple trips to our home, measured, submitted several possible designs, and brought subcontractors and the appliance rep to the house to ensure that what we needed could be done. They invested substantial time and planning before we ever committed to BACK, signed a contract, or spent a dime.

I chose BACK because they are highly recommended by several friends who have used them multiple times, they have built an excellent reputation for 40 years, they have a network of the most skilled and reliable subcontractors, and they have a reputation for doing high-quality work and standing behind it in the future. Our job required orchestration of a lot of supplies and people. BACK is expensive, but if they can pull this off, they are worth it.

Project Manager, Michael Seelbach, did not disappoint. He coordinated everything and everybody very well. He communicated clearly and frequently on-site or by phone one or more times/day. He is very conscientious, respectful, courteous, attentive to detail, prompt to respond and address any concerns or inevitable issues, and goes out of his way to be helpful. I would certainly request him again as PM.

Designer Tarah Carnefix held my hand and expertly guided me through the myriad of decisions from infinite possibilities. She is exceptionally talented, quick, yet patient. I sent her photos of things I like, and she quickly found and narrowed down examples online or in a showroom. She was adept at keeping me focused during what can be an overwhelming process. Working with Tarah was fast, easy, and fun! She nailed it!

Everyone on the BACK team and their subs was prompt, courteous, highly competent, attentive to detail, did beautiful work, cleaned up at the end of the day, and watched out for us and our cat!

Back replaced our deck the old one was rotted & shoddily made. We told them just how we wanted it to go & they’ve done it. They are almost finished and would you believe they are even sanding the rails. We have had two other decks built before at other houses & this is by far the best. We want it covered but can’t afford it right now so they built the bottom with that in mind.
We have had them do indoor work & are always surprised that they go over & above what others do.
Ok, Back is a bit more expensive but not the most. They are most definitely WORTH IT. Having work done in the winter during the pandemic has its own challenges but they have met them all.

Today we had our driveway widened to accommodate a third car. The guys from Back got a subcontractor called Plaster Concrete & they had been out a few days before to do the prep work & today did the concrete work.
They were here about 8 am & the cement mixer arrived at about 8:45. They worked very hard to make it look as perfect as concrete can look. It’s symmetric with the other side of the driveway so that it fits in perfectly.
They did great work & it looks great! In about 2 weeks it’ll be cured & we will begin using it. Now we won’t have to worry about having a car on the street.
Thanks guys for doing another great job for us by getting us a great group to take care of us.

BACK recently installed crown molding, trim, and baseboards in our living room and kitchen.

Wes Dickerson was our initial contact. He measured, answered questions, made suggestions and, within a few day, provided a detailed written job summary and estimate.

Schon Holman, the project manager, was quick to respond to any concern or question throughout the project. He was professional, good-natured, and conscientious.
His team of carpenters and painters were skilled craftspeople. We were particularly happy with the work of finish carpenter Tom Gebhart, and with painters Callie and Freddy.

Everyone showed up at the promised times. They were accommodating and considerate and tidied up at the end of each work day.

The job was completed on time, within the original cost estimate, and the finished project was better than we had envisioned.

I hired Back Construction to repair my deck. Jason Worrel came out to look over the needed repairs. He presented me with a fair estimate which I accepted. Schon Holman did the repair on the deck. I have used BACK for years --everything from a kitchen remodel (gut the whole thing, move the back door , create larger windows, move all the plumbing, etc.) to smaller repairs. The work is always excellent; the people are easy to work with, and any bumps in the road are quickly worked out.
My house is old ---1835 with an 1893 addition --and I look on any work done in my home as a responsibility to the future--I am merely the current caretaker. Their work lives up to my vision. I know that 100 years from now, the new owners will still take pride in the work that was done under my watch. That said, they are expensive; but economy has a price. I would not work with anyone else.

Hired BACK Construction to install four Velux Skylights in our Family Room. Brian Beihn provided us the estimate and scope of work. His estimate was very thorough and detailed. We got several other estimates from various other contractors. Some higher and some lower in price. Brian's attention to detail and professionalism on the estimate alone made us feel confident that BACK Construction was the contractor to go with.

Schon Holman was assigned as our Project Manager. At our pre-construction meeting Schon and Brian informed us of the process and how things would progress with our project. Much to our surprise, the project went exactly as they said it would and with out any issue.

Schon, along with Zach Winnbrenner and Jon Hodnett, provided the absolute best service we could have asked for. I would highly recommend BACK Construction and will be using them again in the future. Honestly, I probably won't even waste my time getting additional estimates for the next project. I would pay more just have the sense of security knowing that the job will be done right!

If you want your project to drag on and on with countless issues, then hire that low bid Jake-Leg contractor you were considering. If you want your project handled with professionalism and to be of quality work then hire Back. If you want the job done right, on schedule and on budget, then hire BACK!

We will use Back Construction for all our home needs, requesting Schon every time. He listens and gives input, always helpful and professional.

I recently had some storm damage to the siding of my house. I called Back Construction & spoke with Joe. He came over to survey the damage, and sent over an estimate shortly thereafter. The damages were repaired by Schon, who was able to match the color & make the repairs the same day. They were both very professional & courteous. Siding looks as good as new!

They removed some hardy board siding that had been exposed to lots of water and was rotten...Took old out, replaced with new, primed, caulked and painted all in one morning. Today concludes my home updating experience with Back Construction. It is with gratitude and satisfaction I review Shohn and my kitchen transformation. We have used Back several times over many years and continue to be impressed with the professional expertise, the quality of the work, and the character of the workmen. Schon Holman and Reuben Korchuck went above and beyond expectations to provide a throughly crafted job.

I live in a house in the Mentelle area that was built in the 1930s and to my dismay, the subflooring in the bathroom started giving way. I got 6 different estimates and decided to go with Back - not because they were the cheapest, they weren't. I went with them because the salesman, Rob, actually listened to what *I* wanted without interrupting or talking over me, or insisting he knew what I wanted more than I did. He was also up front about some issues I had not considered and had actual specific reasons for what he said (vs only lamely saying "you will or won't like this") There was no irritating upselling, just respectful attention to what I wanted done. Because of this, I felt like if problem were to arise - and for sure they would - I could trust them more than the folks who kept trying to get me to do things I didn't want done (or telling me I needed things that I didn't need).

My team consisted of James and Collin and they were such a pleasure. As an older single woman who owns a very old house, I'd had more than my share of difficult workmen in my home, but these two were a real delight. Due to the Covid pandemic I am working from home, yet having them working right next to where I have my "office" was no problem at all, and they were very easy to have around. Respectful, patient in explaining things, careful with their work, careful with my things, cleaning up after themselves, watching out that my 3 indoor cats did not escape... it was such a good experience. And their work was fabulous. James did such a good job with the drywall part making my horror show of a bathroom look really good. It actually looks much better than what I had hoped for since I was looking for a repair more than a remodel!

In addition, this whole project took place during the February 2021 ice storm and they did everything possible to get my job completed despite it all. Because of the overhang at my side door, James had to regularly hack ice away from the steps to get in and he did so each time cheerfully and with good humor. And again, no interrupting, talking over, or mansplaining. They all seemed committed to doing what I needed done.

I would highly recommend this company. I haven't had a lot of good encounters with repair people or contractors, so this was a very welcome experience.

Back Construction helped turn my rental property from the ugliest house on the street to one of the best-looking by designing and building a super-custom open gable porch roof to replace an outdated awning. The project was complicated by the need to work with multiple residents and me, the owner, but clear communication from start to finish made the process easier. They were conscientious about my budget without cutting corners on the quality, appearance, or service.

Highly recommend Back Construction. I had several small repairs to be made and could hardly get anyone to return my calls Jeremy Kelley and Wes Dickerson were very responsive, and I was on the schedule in a matter of weeks. Schon Holman has done the work and is professional, prompt, and a skilled workman. He also made a couple of small repairs at no charge! I will definitely call them again for repairs and remodeling jobs.

I was very pleased with Schon Holman who repaired a faucet incorrectly installed and repaired cabinet damaged by water. Back was quickly responsive to my request and adjusted original estimate when work was done. I would highly recommend Back.

From a Vendor viewpoint, they are extremely easy to work with. They have great professionalism and expertise in what they do and expect the same from their partners. Service is top notch!

Highly recommend Back Construction! They screened in part of our deck and built a pergola. The project went smooth from beginning to end. The sales manager and project manager were easy to work with and took everything into consideration. The work crew were very professional, on time and cleaned up daily. Our screened in porch has become our favorite part of the house! We will definitely be using Back Construction again.

Schon Holman built new steps from garage to house, they look great! The old original steps were too steep. He also installed new weather stripping around exterior door. Kevin Wesley installed a new exterior metal door and frame from the garage to the yard, matching the existing style. I would use BACK Construction again.

I HIGHLY recommend BACK Construction for residential renovations. We had a very positive experience with them from start to finish. I value communication and responsiveness, and all three team members we worked with were very communicative and responsive. We worked with Jason Worrell to determine the scope of the renovation and to get a budget estimate. Jason was very patient with us as we added to and subtracted from the to-do list. Christa Krause was our designer and she was amazing. She took my inspiration photos, listened to what we wanted and hit the nail on the head with her design suggestions on the first try. She was also wonderful about helping us stay on budget. (We even came in a bit UNDER budget on the overall project!!) Tim Kinkaid was our project manager. He addressed every single little touch-up and tweak that we asked for. We were incredibly impressed with the high-quality subcontractors that BACK brought in to do the work. Our renovations included: new front door (slab only), new bamboo flooring in two rooms, a new natural stone fireplace surround, new countertops/faucet/sink/backsplash in the kitchen, and new floor tile in the master bathroom. BACK did a particularly amazing job with our master shower. They gutted the existing shower and designed and built out what I consider to be a work of art. Our shower now looks like a shower in a high-end hotel. The tilework is absolutely incredible (thank you to the Berkut brothers!). BACK and Young Brothers Plumbing were very creative and reconfigured our master bathtub for us, so it's much more functional now. I've seen in other reviews that BACK is considered to be expensive. That may be true, but their estimate was on par with another well-known and well-respected construction company that we met with, and we feel that we definitely got our money's worth. Thank you so much to the entire BACK team!
UPDATE December 27, 2021: This month, we used BACK for the third time, this time for a basement laundry/kitchenette upgrade. The project involved installing new cabinets, countertop, and sink/faucet/garbage disposal. We worked with Jason Worrell on the project proposal, Schon Holman did the carpentry and electrical work, and the Young Brothers did the plumbing. Jason was very responsive and helpful, and Schon was extremely efficient, professional, and easy to work with. We are very pleased with the quality of the work!

I have had Back Construction work on my 1928 Sears Bungalow in the Kenwick neighborhood at least on four different occasions. When there is something I need done correctly and done keeping with the style and architecture of the house, I call Back. In the recent work, Schon Holman was the person in charge of the project and the person doing the work. He was absolutely meticulous in all the preparation and communication with me. He coordinated with KU as the repairs were very close to the power lines. Schon protected the soil and plants around the house and cleaned up perfectly. As expected, his work was exceptional....you couldn’t tell where major repairs had been made. That’s what I have come to expect and appreciate from all the people at Back. Thank you so much, Schon!

Shawn Holman was a fantastic worker with Back Construction. When he came to the door, the 1st thing he did was ask if we prefered him wearing a mask or not. Even though I was not wearing mine, he was very comfortable wearing one.

Shawn's work was top notch, and his manner was very professional. Nothing but praise on the quality of his work.

Schon installed a partial privacy fence for us. The service was AMAZING. He built it within hours in one day! He even pointed out to my wife that we wouldn’t have be able to get our trash cans and mower out due to no gate— whoops. She said it should be okay and by the time he was almost finished we decided we did need a gate. He was very gracious and nice about it which was super appreciated. He came back the next morning, removed 2 panels and replaced them with a gate. Everyone at BACK has been great to us through our various projects and we definitely recommend them. They are thorough and explain everything in detail so you know what’s going on. The money is WORTH the great work and service.

So far we have had Back Construction remove a back stoop and put in a deck against the house to help water from getting into our basement. They did a GREAT job, were always on time (sometimes even earlier than expected!), and answered all of our questions. Not only that but they are also super personable and hilarious. If you go with Back Construction and need a deck I highly recommend you request who we had because they were awesome: Schon, Colin, Tom, James, Bill, and Eric. I will be updating this or adding a new review soon when they redo our front stoop and walkway to prevent water getting in from that area as well.
