I contracted with Emerald to mitigate water infiltration in our fieldstone basement. Brendan provided a contract which specified excavation, injection of cracks, mortaring, and sealing the exterior and interior of the basement with a 20 year guarantee against leakage. The agreed upon amount was $14k. The contract signed was in electronic format. I requested a paper contract to include license number and work scope. After the excavation commenced, Brendan came up with a new pricing of $40k which now included concrete retention and French drain installation exterior and interior. Again, the contract was in electronic format and did not contain the terms requested. We were told on several occasions that he would pack up and charge us some undetermined amount if we were not happy. Note that we are 72 years old and are ill prepared to backfill the excavation so we acquiesced. Brendan requested 50% payment with the remainder upon completion. We gave him a check for $20k. Two days later, Brendan said he couldn’t work with us and quit the job leaving us with a complete mess including open excavation, materials, tools and unprotected mortar on our lawn . None of the contracted work was completed. He did cash the check however.

In the past, I've had bad experiences with chimney companies, but emerald waterproofing and masonry solved that problem.
