I had a great experience with Amex Roofing. I initially contacted him because I needed to fix my cedar roof that had multiple leaks. Sean, the owner, was a pleasure to work with. Very straightforward and honest about what needed to be done. His workers were equally impressive. Polite, professional, and hardworking. They completed the job ahead of schedule, which was a pleasant surprise, and the pricing was more than fair for the quality of work. I’m really happy with the new roof and will definitely be recommending to anyone in need.

My neighbour had his roof replaced and referred me to Amex Roofing, as I needed mine done as well and I have to say I’m very happy with my decision. The job went smoothly, I had a vacation booked and asked if it could be done before I left and Sean the owner assured me yes, and kept his word, I couldn’t be happier, I want to say thank you so much for your work from you and your crew especially in this heat lately, absolutely will refer your company, thank you once again.

I recently had a new roof installed by Amex Roofing and I'm really happy with the experience. The team was professional from the start, always on time, and answered all my questions. The work they did looks great, and I feel confident the roof will last a long time. They finished the job earlier than expected and made sure to clean up everything afterward. The price was fair, and I believe I got great value for what I paid. I highly recommend Amex Roofing for anyone needing roofing work—they made the whole process easy and did an excellent job.

We purchased a house which was covered by a 30 year transferable warranty by Amex. When I called to transfer the warranty to my name I was informed that the business had closed and the new owner was operating under the old name but taking no responsibility for the old warranties. This seems at the very least disingenuous...

My worn out roof needed replacement and Amex did an awesome job. John, the hardest working roofer around, was professional and skillful, resulting in a job well done. Amex exceeded my expectations.

We have used Amex Roofing a few times. They were able to quickly and efficiently repair a leak in an old roof and diagnose possible further issues. Most recently Sean responded to my call about a damaged gutter and came out personally to make the repair for us.

My family used Amex roofing and drainage, to repair our gutters and roof on our old farm home. The company was easy to talk to, and discuss our concerns and finances. They worked with our budget, we’re on time and very professional. We would refer and recommend Sean and his crew to any family or friend. Great work guys! So much appreciate the deadline being compete on time also!

Called these guys up for a roof repair, they ended up taking months to get around to the project and held my money without being responsive/telling me when I would get my roof done. Fast forward a year, still no project started and I had to file a court order to get my money back. Not apologetic, rude and discriminatory once I did get my money, just a horrible experience.

In 2004 I bought a house that had a new roof installed by Amex with a 25 year guarantee in 1999. Upon the purchase I contacted Amex to inform them of the charge of ownership and asked for transfer of guarantee for which Amex asked for and I paid $167 to achieve the peace of mind of the coverage of the guarantee. I experienced a small leak this week and contacted Amex. Six calls later with zero response despite the answering service assurances that the messages were forwarded to Amex I accessed Google reviews that show this company is not honouring their guarantees and obviously are a dishonourable company. I have since reached out to another roofing company and plan on reporting Amex to BBB and all social media outlets available to me. I do not expect anyone at Amex to care or even respond, as other dissatisfied clients’ reviews clearly indicate.

My home needed a new roof and a friend referred me to Amex. Sean came over for an inspection and provided a quote to replace my old failing duroid shingled roof with a fresh new tin roof. If anyone is considering this type of roof I would highly recommend it. looks fantastic and will last a lifetime.
The weather didn't cooperate with us as it turned out to be the wettest Sept in history but the guys persevered and got it done nonetheless. From start to finish communication from Sean and his crew was excellent, always keeping us up to date and informed with progress and scheduling.
All of the Amex staff were professional, diligent and very safety conscious. It was a pleasure having them work on my home, I will not hesitate to call on Amex again if the need arises. Thanks Amex for all your hard work through wet and miserable weather to get the job done on this beautiful roof, Couldn't be happier,

Pat

In April 2017 Amex was paid a $1000 deposit to do do some minor roofing repairs. After making several calls, in June we were told work would begin in a couple of weeks. By late fall, no work had been started so we canceled and requested our deposit back. After several unanswered calls and an email, a small claim was initiated with the B.C. Civil Resolution Tribunal. A binding judgement has been made against Amex and there is currently an outstanding payment order in effect and due for $1110.50.
Amex, previously a reputable long term North Shore roofer, closed operations a few years ago. Sean Teather, previous owner of North Shore roofing closed operations and reopened under the Amex name. Note that North Shore Roofing still maintains an active website and telephone number but is not licensed to operate in North Vancouver.

The current company owner refuses to honor their warranty as he feels that, as the new owner, he doesn't not have to honor warranty's issued by the previous owner. We bought the roof 10 years ago and were given a 25-year warranty. He was very rude and absolutely refused to honor any of the previous owner's warranties. As he is conducting business under the original company name we feel he is morally obligated to honor the original warranty.

NOTE: The warranty is in my wife's name; Marianne R.

Called their phone service for a repair. I asked for a price but was told to talk to the onsite person. I had a call and arranged for a time. I heard them outside and went to great them. At this point, a ladder was up against the house. I spoke to the second person and showed him damage inside the house. When we exited the house, they found an uplifted shingle and glued it down. I asked again about price and he said they had to check the warranty and would bill me. The time taken was about 10 minutes but no more than 15 minutes to repair the leak. The bill arrived for over $300 about 2-3 weeks later.

A call to their service manager and said the price was unreasonable for the amount of time taken. I asked why he started work without authorization and he said they never wait if the amount is less than $300-400. He wouldn't budge on the price, said he was forwarding the bill to the credit bureau and said his time was too valuable to waste talking to me and hung up.

In all fairness, they did repair the leak but their handling of the dispute on price was terrible. I would ensure if you ever do work with Amex that you get it in writing, and make sure they quote you a price.

UPDATE: Apparently there is a new owner who replied to a 10+ year old review. There is a filing with the North Vancouver provincial court outlining the statement of claim made against Amex. They settled with me.

3. How to hire a roofing contractor?
+-

To hire a roofing contractor, start by researching local companies with good reviews and proper licensing. Request quotes from multiple contractors, verify their insurance and certifications, and ask for references. Always ensure you get a written contract that outlines the scope of work, timeline, and payment terms.

4. How to check if a roofing company is legit?
+-

Check if a roofing company is legit by verifying their business license, insurance, and local certifications. Look for memberships in professional associations, read customer reviews, and ask for recent project references. A legitimate company will be transparent and provide all documentation upon request.

5. How to choose a roofing company?
+-

When choosing a roofing company, consider their experience, customer reviews, warranty offerings, and quality of materials. Make sure they provide clear communication, detailed estimates, and a solid portfolio of completed projects. Local expertise is also a major advantage for understanding regional roofing needs.

6. How do you know if your roofing contractor is ripping you off?
+-

Warning signs that your roofing contractor might be ripping you off include vague contracts, pressure to pay large upfront deposits, lack of proper documentation, and unexplained price increases. Always ask for itemized estimates and written guarantees, and avoid contractors who avoid answering your questions directly.
