Windmill Homes & Improvements

We had a great experience with Windmill Homes and Improvements as they expanded our deck into a wonderful screened-in area. Throughout the project they were extremely communicative and 100% responsive to our questions and comments. Each crew (bricklayers, framers, gutter installers, landscapers, screen installer, etc.) was respectful and courteous. Each was also neat and never left our property cluttered with unnecessary was items or trash. Rodney and/or Dylan McNew always checked before and after specific tasks were addressed. We never felt that our questions were forgotten or overlooked. I highly recommend you consider this company for your next project.

Two friends used Windmill and were very pleased. Unfortunately, reaching someone at Windmill is extremely difficult. All calls go to voicemail. We initially contacted Windmill on October 31, 2024. We received a return call on November 6, 2024, but couldn't take the call because of an appointment. We left a voicemail message on November 7 & November 11, 2024; very frustrating. Perhaps they prefer doing work in New Kent. The follow up is lacking.

Windmill Homes did a fantastic job renovating my kitchen and bathroom. I was in need of a general contractor to do the renovations and I had shopped around and contacted several companies, but their communication, responsiveness, and reliability stood out amongst others and was ultimately why I decided to go with Windmill Homes.

My house was built in the 1950s and needed some major updates, particularly knocking down a wall in the kitchen to open it up and then rearrange the whole kitchen layout. As well as removing an unused exhaust chimney that was going throught the bathroom and then completely gutting and re-putting the bathroom back together.

Dylan was great to work with and super quick to respond back to my several questions and kept me informed along the way. The quality of the work was great and they even finished the project well ahead of schedule. I am very glad that I chose Windmill Homes for my renovation needs and I plan on contacting them again in the future if I ever want to expand onto the house.

We had a very favorable experience with Windmill Homes , they installed a new Deck for us and we are very pleased with the outcome of the project . Thanks to all involved in this project

We had them install new windows, siding and a metal roof. We are very pleased with the results. Everyone we dealt with was professional and responsive to any questions or concerns that we raised. We will consider them again for any future needs.

Did a very nice job on our bathroom remodel. It looks great. Even spent a couple of months to follow up locating little clips for our medicine cabinets that the manufacturer could not get right for some time. Through perseverance, Dylan was able to get the parts we needed.

Great job, had a few problems Windmill took care of the and did an excellent job. I would recommend them highly.

My home is more of a modern style, not something a lot of builders have experience with it even want to build. When I wanted to have an addition built, I sent my plans to several builders. Dylan and Rodney were the only ones to get back with me and follow through with a reasonable price for a custom build. They did everything they said they were going to do and more without any added cost. They were flexible and communicated throughout the entire process and got my project done ahead of the scheduled finish date. I highly recommend Windmill Homes to anyone considering a build... And if you are a bit nervous that what you want is different, or no one will listen, this is definitely the company for you.

Although I wasn’t able to move forward on the renovation of my kitchen, the selection of the Contractor (Dylan McNew, Windmill Homes & Improvements) along with one of his design consultants at James River Kitchen and Baths were extremely professional and kind!
Being older and “out of the loop” so to speak, Dylan and Brandon were so patient and clarified every question I had. I will definitely contact them for any future jobs I might have. They build entire homes and just about any renovations you might have. They were great! Top Notch!

Complete redo of master bathroom. Great communication throughout the process with Rodney and/or Dylan present daily. Cannot be happier with the process and the result. Already working toward the next project.

Unfortunately we could not proceed with finalizing our project. Due to reasons beyond our control with the county. But needless to say the McNew family went beyond the call of duty to help get everything in order for the project. I would definitely recommend them to anyone needing there services. Very professional.

New Project April/May 2024 (Kitchen & Living Room Renovations): We are so pleased with our kitchen and living room renovations. Nu Kitchen & Baths/Windmill transformed our very dated kitchen into a work of art for us! Our kitchen is so much more functional now! April 2023 Project We: We were extremely pleased with the work that Windmill Homes *and Improvements/Nu Kitchen and Baths completed in our home. They renovated our master bedroom and bath, as well as reconfigured our closet (changing the location of the door, adding walls and making it a true walk-in closet). We could not be happier with the professionalism, timeliness and overall ease to work with Dylan and Rodney. The quality is second to none!

Rodney and his crew did a great job on my bathroom. They built a bathroom from scratch. It looks great and I am very happy with the results.

I wanted to remodel my kitchen and wanted to use someone local; not a national home improvement chain. So I researched and found Windmill Homes. After viewing their website I decided to go to their showroom to speak with them. From the time I walked in, to the completion of the project, Rodney and Michelle were great to work with. They helped me with making decisions and made the entire project run smoothly. And my kitchen turned out beautiful! I couldn't be happier with the workmanship, scheduling, and courtesy of everyone who came to my home to do their part of the job. I will be contacting them in the future for my bath remodel. I would highly recommend them.

When we knew we were going to have to make a life change with a move and a build we only thought of one builder, Rodbey McNew and Windmill Homes....he built the house we had been in 20 years ago!!! We just walked into the office and instead of requesting an appt he pulled out the chairs.....we explained how we needed to be near my inlaws to help with their heathcare... he said "we can get this thing done quickly but it depends on you" I already knew what i wanted...this was the fastest house I have seen done in a long time....100 days!!! His team is phenomenal!! They were always neat and clean and friendly!! Ronnie always kept us in the loop, Tony actually put the siding on our first house. I cant say enough about this team and their passion to build such a wonderful house in such a short time. Thanks again, you all are so great and kind!!

Consistently strong in daily communications so we never wondered what was happening and when to expect the next phase of the remodel to begin. The projects moved forward with no down time (kitchen, master & hall baths). Daily cleanup so we could make comfortable use of our home each night. Top quality finishes, and easy selections made from the guidance of experienced professionals. We'd hire Rodney & team again & again!!

Our experience with Windmill Homes and Rodney McKnew, began a year ago when we asked him to remodel our master bathroom. Since that time, besides having our bathroom completely redone, he has built an addition onto our home, put hardwood floors in our entire upstairs, and remodeled our kitchen. It has been an absolute pleasure working with him!! Our home looks amazing!! I have had Windmill do a great deal of work on my house. The most recent was putting on a new roof. They have always done a great job and have worked on a situation until I was satisfied. They are always my "go to" people for anything I need done.

Very positive experience. Every effort was made to complete the work within schedule despite difficult weather and other unforeseeable conditions. Workmanship was excellent. Rodney and his people took great pains to ensure our satisfaction as the project progressed; communication was excellent throughout. The work crew members were courteous and clearly shared Rodney's dedication to customer satisfaction. The project comprised replacing a large number of windows and an important part of the satisfactory outcome was Rodney's research and vendor liaison to ensure we had the right product at the right time. My wife and I were very impressed and pleased with the final result.
