We had the pleasure of working with Virginia Building Services. Our contacts were Braden, Estimator, and then Brandon Barnhart, Roofing Division Manager.
We live out of state and rent out our home, so it’s always difficult to manage work being done from afar, but they made this process so smooth and effortless on my part. Their communication throughout the process and quick responses made a stressful situation much less of a headache, and I can’t express my gratitude enough. Professional service and kindness is what you’ll get while working with this company. We will definitely use them again as needed! Bravo VBS, stellar service! Thank you.

VBS replaced the ceiling and carpet for our screened-in backporch that was damaged by roof leaks. The job was completed on-time, in-budget and the results were beautiful. They are great to work with.

Absolutely the worst experience with a contracting company! I was put out of my home for a a month and a half, while we had to beg them to even start the job after they were paid, and fight to get them to complete it. They left without ever even completing the job! My floors are slanted in both the rooms that they fixed, they never even fixed the window that was causing the leak. They also left such a mess because they did not tarp or cover anything, which includes the clothes they removed from our closet. It took days to get the house back in a condition to move in. They did not move anything furniture back. They took my blinds down and not only didn’t put them back but they lost the hardware so we couldn’t even put them back without buying new fixtures. They didn’t even put the outlet covers back on. There was even pieces of wood from the job left in our yard. They collectively were in our house working for maybe a week but it took a month and a half to complete. They had so many excuses for why they were not working on our home and also never showed up when they said they were going to. If you are looking to have work done DO NOT use this company! You will be disappointed

We couldn’t be happier with the work VBS did on our condominium remodel! From start to finish, they exceeded our expectations. The design team listened carefully to our vision, offered creative ideas, and delivered a space that feels both modern and comfortable. The attention to detail and craftsmanship is outstanding, and the team was always professional, punctual, and respectful of our home. The project stayed on schedule and within budget (except when my wife and I went way overboard on our countertops!! ), and they followed up with regular updates throughout the process. We now have our dream condo, and it’s all thanks to VBS! Highly recommended!

VBS handled an insurance claim for a tree hitting my workshop. They were personable, friendly, and professional. The repairs to the workshop were done efficiently and expertly. We had to have the metal roofing replaced over the whole workshop. They neatly stacked the material they took off, worked until the roof was complete (about 7pm) without disturbing our evening.

I worked closely with Brandon, who has been easy to contact, communicates really well, and takes pride in what he does. No complaints - great experience!

This company is first rate. From the initial interaction (with our wonderful rep, Jay Schwab!) to the last I was totally impressed with their customer service/interaction, their quality of workmanship, their attention to detail, and then making sure that everything was wrapped up well when the job was concluded. And our job was not a small one, a really large flat roof (which I’m sure is better than has ever been up there before), to a complete renovation of our entire upper level (easily 6000-8000 sq. Ft,). I would recommend this company to anyone for any job!! We look forward to working with you on other projects in the near future. I worked with Braden Louia and was more than satisfied, as soon as I contacted them he came out to see the damage when the tree fell across the front of my house. He was extremely knowledgeable and to what needed to be done and even more friendly and reassuring. He always included me in everything that had to be done and if I missed his call he would message me. Then Brandon Barnhart guided the crew with the repairs and left my houses looking brand new. The crew was friendly and worked really hard. I’d recommend your company to anyone who asks and more importantly I’d also tell them about your employees who went above and beyond to make me comfortable in my home again. Thank you so so much!

Great job renovating our master bathroom and half bath. This is the 3rd project for us with VBS.This project involved a lot of demo, removal of a Jacuzzi, moving toilet and construction of a shower that is functional plus safe for us. Moving plumbing involved removing part of basement ceiling and replastering. The electrician added cable outlets, electrical outlets with night-lights. The tile work installation was first class. Our project manager was Jeff Austin who answered all calls, good to work with and was on top of our project the whole time. Quality work. Job well done.

Our insurance carrier brought VBS in immediately after a house fire that would require our 140 year old farm house to be gutted to the studs, sealed, then completely rebuilt. We would not have known where to find a competent builder for a project if this scope, and decided to trust our insurer’s choice. We’re so glad we did! Jay Schwab and Mark Levan could not have been more helpful and patient with us, as we had many remodeling requests and complex issues to deal with in such an old house - such as five different floor “heights” on the main level alone - which needed to be mitigated for a safe smooth luxury vinyl floor installation throughout. Their competent carpenters and subcontractors made sure every last detail right down to our final punch list was completed to our liking and stayed in budget. We learned that any homeowner should have an active presence on site on a project of this magnitude, because surprises and questions can pop up all the time, and it was our part to keep communicating decisions and preferences at several unforeseen junctures. We LOVE our all new home! Thank you VBS!

Virginia Building Services is a reliable outstanding company. They have performed multiple large jobs for me and I will use them again as my need arises. They have performed over a quarter of a million dollars of construction work on my investment properties. Their communications on the job status exceeds expectation setting new standards in the construction industry. I highly recommend this company.

The team from VBS was great to work with: professional, personable and responsive to questions and requests. Workmanship was of the highest quality. During the project the crew cleaned up each day before they left, and at the end the rooms were spotless and ready for us to move back in. Great job!

I’ve used VA Building Services in the past. Their ownership, project management, etc., is first class. Very flexible and very talented. Their finish work is as good as you will find, the more complicated, the better. I will be using them again for our next projects, for sure!

VBS was contracted to install Kitchen cabinets, cabinets in 6 bath rooms, a media cabinet and laundry room cabinets. Well over $26k. The entire process was a disaster. The VBS Sales rep made and missed multiple appointments, some with reason and response, some just a no-show. They sub-contracted install of product and did not follow up with the work being performed, again with multiple counts of not showing up or completing what was promised. As this is my 12th home built I am accustomed to delays and issues so never addressed any issues until the 6-7th time my wife waited all day at home to get job finished, but no one ever showed up (again). When I called Dereck he assured me the next trip would be the last. It was not. After an additional trip I called to see why the job was still not done. He would not let me speak, just kept yelling at me the excuses why additional trips would be made (although the additional trips promised and needed never happened). I raised my voice in an attempt to get a word in and he hung up on me and has not been heard from since. I call VBS and ask to speak to a supervisor, manager, or owner but no one will even return a call. All I am asking for is to level up some doors and hinges and a simple drawer that was specified and agreed upon before any items were even ordered. VBS Sales Rep has promised us that the correct drawer has been ordered and will be installed upon arrival, but again, it has been 3 months and now he says he's not going to fulfil his promise. The item in question has a retail price of approx. $200 and simple adjustments are always part of a new construction job, but even after a sale of over $26k I cannot even get a phone call. I have waited patiently for over 3 months for a simple repair, but cannot even get a phone call.

As I waited patiently for a return call from VBS sales Rep. I started trying to call for a manager or supervisor and again, no phone call. I dropped by their office and was met at the door by CEO-"A". I tried to politely introduce myself, he said he will not speak to me. Not one word. Got in his truck and drove off. I called the office from the parking lot to try to explain my situation and let them know I have tons of pictures and screen shots of their work and promises made but not fulfilled so they can have both sides of the story. The very nice receptionist told me that none of the managers or owners had made it in for the day (lied to again, but she was just doing what she was told). 15 minutes later CEO-"B" called me. He said CEO-"A" is his brother and can't handle the stress of complaints so he is the "man" that can His first words were "Here is your phone call, what do I have to do to get you off my back" I politely again tried to see if he was interested in my side of the story and see the actual proof of the situation and his next response was "If I give you $200, will you go away?" I explained I was not interested in money, I simply wanted what I paid for and was promised. after a brief cordial conversation, he said send me the pictures of what you have and what you want, I will order the correct cabinet and get a different installer to correct. I said great! thank you. Then he asked me to remove the complaint from the BBB and when I said I would not until the job was fixed, he got belligerent again and hung up. So I guess this is where I stand, this company has no integrity. All I asked was a simple fix. A couple hundred bucks and a couple hours of time. I gave them ample time to make things right and they choose not to. The men of this company can't seem to communicate in a civil fashion. (the receptionist is wonderful, only lied to me because she had to). As in his response, please refer to his response to my BBB account. It is ridiculously long and full of one sided half truths, mis-information, and outright lies. Its really no big deal, neither of us are going to go broke, it just seems like VBS would want to do the right thing. I guess not.

I have used VBS several times since 2020. They were recommended by my insurance company for roof and ceiling repair. In addition to the initial repairs, they have replaced my front porch and recently replaced my storm-damaged back room with a deck.

Everyone associated with VBS, (contractors, subcontractors, office personnel, etc.) have proved themselves to be knowledgeable, professional and personable with great customer service skills. These qualities are much appreciated.

I have, and will continue to, recommend VBS to anyone in need of a contractor and definitely keep their number on hand for any future home issues.

In Oct. 2018 a tree fell on my house. The damage was extensive to my roof and a couple of rooms. After filing an insurance claim, I hired VBS to do the repairs. They repaired the roof and started on the room repairs when they started demanding more money from the insurance. The insurance said no. Even though their contract was with me, they walked off the job, leaving my house in disarray. The kitchen ceiling was left in a dangerous condition and some of it fell on my wife. Our contract was for about $36,000, half paid when it was finished. They were paid $24,000 in the beginning, and then tried to sue me when they abandoned the project. I have been left to do the work myself. I hate that I have to give them one star...

Jeff at VBS did a great job on our roof for our new construction house! Very time efficient and easy to work with. I would highly recommend.

Don’t recommend this company .sales guy showed up to write an estimate for my damage caused by a recent storm. I had asked for someone to let me know when they were on their way so I could be at my home to discuss the damage, instead the guy writing the estimate showed up at 7:10 am and never rang the door bell or let us know he was here and going on my roof. Would’ve been nice if I could have spoke to someone about the damage in person.

My parents Lucinda and Gary Jennelle would like to thank Glenn and Donnie with VBS of Roanoke. They both did a fantastic job coordinating and doing the work to put their home back together after a tree fell demolishing the majority of the family home inside and out! Glenn arrived the day the tree fell and was there through the entire process. Both Glenn and Donnie were very profession and a pleasure to work with; they went above and beyond what we imagined! Thank you Glen and Donnie for helping our family to get through this most stressful event and making it so much easier than what we expected – especially during a pandemic! My in laws who are in their mid 80's had water damage upstairs do to a leak in an HVCA system. After all the clean up work was done VBS came in to do the repair work and to put everything back together. This was one of the best business experiences I have had. From the initial meeting to writing the final check they were so nice, understanding, flexible with there schedule, cleaned up after themselves everyday before they left, and the work is absolutely beautiful! We were so happy with their services.
I would recommend this company to anyone and everyone and will only being using them for future project. GREAT JOB!!!

Had a fire that burned down my workshed and left all the debris in the basement below. The blackened mess was nasty. VBS did all the haggling with insurance. When they said they were gonna be there for consult-they were there on time. When each phase of work started, they were on time every time. When they said they were gonna do something, they did it without me having to hound them. I was able to give input about how I wanted things built and they let me know if it was doable or not and hooked me up. Everyone we met that worked for VBS was pleasant and professional. The work was quick too, they knocked it out. Very happy in Shawsville VA!!!

I called vbs for a estimate they came out and gave me estimate ...a week later said that they were going to have plans drawn up it was gonna cost me an extra $2000... this was a year ago the work is now finished and I didn't have to have plans submitted to the county, you would think that professionals would know what they were doing....

VBS replaced my roof and gutters. They worked diligently to complete all repairs and ensure that I was left with a quality finished product. I am extremely pleased with the work, team, and professionalism of VBS.

I can’t even begin to express what a great company this is. Only being in our newly purchased home for a few months and finding out the new roof had issues (And done incorrectly), we were lucky enough to have Tommy come out and give us a quote and then get us in as a priority with their extremely busy schedule. The entire team was extremely professional, polite and knowledgeable. Every step of the process was explained to us in a way that myself and my husband could understand. This is the way a roof should be installed and I will recommend them to the world.

An excellent experience with VBS, professional at all times, responding to a failed sump pump which flooded a finished basement. The work required drywall, plastering, painting, furniture removal and return, etc. Quick work well done

I recently had storm damage on my roof in 3 different areas. I contacted my insurance (Nationwide) who recommended Virginia Building Services as one of their "preferred providers." Since I had never had work like this done before, I felt it was better to go with what the insurance company recommended & I was not disappointed. From the first contact through the end of the process, Jeff Worrell and his team were professional, thorough, concerned about doing a great job & constantly checking in with me to make sure things were going well! Because of the location of the damage on all sides of my roof, I now have a brand new roof that is the envy of the neighborhood! I cannot thank Jeff and Virginia Building Services enough for making this homeowner feel secure in that I don't believe this roof will be as easy to damage (we get alot of wind in my particular area). I also feel that if I have any issues I can pick up the telephone, call Jeff and things will be made right (I doubt this is going to be needed). I STRONGLY recommend Virginia Building Services for any of your roofing needs!

We had a tree come down and do some roof and fence damage and VBS was great to work with. They got out there quickly, got an estimate together, and got the work done. The roof and fence are both amazing looking, we couldn't be happier, and everyone we encountered was very nice and professional. I would highly recommend VBS.

I can't say enough things about VBS. I was truly at a loss on how to handle all the insurance stuff, and Jay helped me through that process and made me feel very at ease. I work from home, and I can honestly say, that had it not been for hearing them on the roof working, I would've never known they were here. They were all very professional, and worked hard. When they were done, they cleaned up the mess from the old roof and left everything looking as they had never been here. Someone even came back out a couple days later and went around the house with what I assume was a magnet getting up any nails that may have been dropped. I have a new appreciation for roofers after this. They worked hard both days they were here. I would definitely recommend VBS for any roofing needs that you may have.

Fabulous company! Most recently replaced our roof. It looks wonderful and the crew was skillful, efficient and friendly. We have used VBS in the past for several projects and will continue to use them in the future. This team is Awesome!

It's hard to believe that, in 2019, a company can be this awful and still be in business. They will take your money, do shoddy work quickly, and then when you call for them to fix what they were hired to fix, they'll tell you "sorry, but we don't guarantee our work." They'll also give you the runaround so they don't have deal with you anymore. If you don't believe me, hire them!!!! You'll wish you listened to me and went with someone else.

They were hired to fix a leaking roof and plaster the wall below. Well, they sent someone that didn't fix the VERY obvious leak (the new roofer that finally fixed it told me that even the most inexperienced roofer would've been able to spot this leak) and now my wall has to be plastered once again. See the photo. This has turned into the most expensive repair ever.

If you take nothing else away from this review: They are not to be trusted with your money. They provide you with subpar customer service. They do bad work and don't guarantee it either. You WILL be disappointed.

I reached out to VBS because their reviews seemed promising. Unfortunately it hasn’t been a great experience at all.

I scheduled an estimate the beginning of Dec2018 to then not have the guy show up. I then reached out and he said he got me mixed up with another client which I thought wasn’t outrageous. He came out that day but kept pushing the time back.

Finally he was here and conducting the estimate and listening to what I was hoping to have done. I was then told that I would have an estimate emailed to me in a week. I hadn’t heard anything by that time so I reached out only to be told they were behind and to check back in another week. By this time it was Christmas and I was hoping Chris would reach out to me - he did not yet again.

So I reached out 2 weeks later and was told that they had gotten backed up with the snow and holidays and I would have something in a week... I reached out again today and no response.

While this company may be great at their finished products the person who came out to do the estimate has lost the potential business we would have given them with a sizable renovation. It’s unfortunate.

When I was not happy with product and service, it was all addressed and corrected.
I appreciate the care it took to make things right.

This company did everything possible to help us when a tree fell on our home. They went above and beyond to get everything fixed back right. I appreciate all their help and would recommend them to anyone and everyone!

I would highly recommend VBS. Very professional, easy to work with and never an issue with getting in touch with them. And of course great work!!!

This was the best experience in what most consider a bad situation. We had acquired roof damage a recent storm and VBS was on TIME with everthing from making sure we were tarpped down till they could get back and get our roof on. They all were so good to us, assuring us all the way that tings wolud be taking care of in a timely matter due to the high volume of needed area repairs due to the local storms that hit our area. Even the men that brought the supplies were great!!! They didn't just bring the stuff and drop it rhey asked where they could put it so it wouldn't be in the way but in a safr scecure place. So precise and neatly done.
When came time for the roof the crew that came was out if this world they were fast and just as equally effeciant. No nail gun used at all old fashion one nail at a time but you would that thought it was a nail gun at how fast they were getting they were getting it done. They were neat with their trash and all and all GREAT guys!!
I would recommend this company over and over AGAIN they were the BEST!!!!!!

We had a dishwasher water leak that ruined our kitchen hardwood floor and the bedroom ceiling and walls in our basement below the dishwasher. VBS has repaired our home to better than new condition and we are extremely pleased! The best part was working with David Levan and the entire crew that worked on our home as they were a pleasure to work with. Communication was excellent such that we knew what was going on at all times with no surprises.

I had Virginia Building Services come out after all of the dry wall was removed due to a leak above the garage. I was recommended to call VBS and i am glad I did. The process was smooth from getting the estimate to getting the work done. They wasted no time with getting started on the repairs and I wouldnt be able to tell I ever had all of the ceiling removed(other than the fresh paint). I will definitely be using them again in the future.

Virginia Building Services of Roanoke is the best of the best. I could not be more pleased with the restoration job recently at my home. From the first contact to completion of the job, it was professionalism all the way. They arrived each day at the exact time they said they would arrive, fully addressed any questions I had, gave me updates each day on the progress of the job and completed the job in the exact time frame they had given. The only reason they got 1 star is cause you can't give no stars and still right a review. This company has straight up lied to me. They have done very bad work and are no longer welcome in my home. They have done more damage then good. i wouldn't even let my worst enemy use this company.
