From the start, communication was prompt and thorough beginning with the company owner Louis, who performed a very thorough inspection, Des the Project Manager maintained consistent communication and provided options for successive phases of the project. Jay and Landon are meticulous, careful and thoughtful. Shows that they have been a team for years now. Our 70 yr. old chimney looks brand new after a wash and scrub. The new flashing looks far more formidable than what was there prior. We look forward to the next phase where the mortar joints will thoroughly and completely repaired and sealed. Thanks guys!

I had an odd situation and multiple roofing contractors didn't want to touch it due to its complexity of the chimney location in relation to the ridge and hip on my 1954 Hidden brick chimney. They pan flashed the ridge, installed new counter flashing with tuck point and rebuilt the masonry crown, terminated the old oil flue, cut down the taracotta flues to be able to install the new stainless drip/rain cap.
This experience was great and I had no issues like what you will read with the low rating reviews. Those 1 star reviews are not regarding the quality extent of their knowledge. They are from impatient people unable to be flexible with a successful company. My experience was great and I know that my chimney is finally fixed from the way the original builder left it, almost 80 years ago.

Louis and his team came highly recommended and we must say, did not disappoint. We had a large project restoring inside of fireplace as well as the chimney. They communicated and completed each step in a timely manner and were respectful of our property ensuring all areas were tidy. They are truly experts in their field and would highly recommend.

Our original 1959 chimney cap and flashing needed a complete rehab! We called Vanport Fireplace and Chimney and Duck did an incredible job installing our new cap and made sure everything was repaired and sealed properly around the base and mortar. They also did a black powder coating to match our new black trim, I’m so happy with the end result!!!! Checkout the before and after photos, incredible. Thank you!!!!

We had a partial rebuild, and repair work done to our neglected 1979 chimney. Duck and Steven were great to work with! They were both very friendly, knowledgeable and efficient in their work. The office contact, Desirae, was very pleasant and informative every step of the way. The price seemed fair for the work; and the job was completed a day sooner than expected! Jay and Landon came to repair my chimney and couldn’t have asked for a more capable team to fix it. They were so efficient and polite as they worked and repaired my chimney to perfection. Thank you

Steven was wonderful! He was able to come out and service my fireplace and get it back up in running in under an hours time. he even took the time to explain to me how to turn the unit off completely and restart it. Cant recommend this company enough! Very honest, and hard working company with great employees.

Steve and Duck were great to work with. They clearly knew exactly what they were doing, and were thoughtful down to matching the paint color of the house for the chimney siding repairs. Really went the extra mile to remove the old flue, clean everything, repair the chimney cap, and do the final fitting. 10/10 would use again. Coordinating with the office staff was a little hit and miss, nice people, but a little challenging shuffling from person to person. Make sure your quote is exactly what was discussed.

I would recommend you get another quote if you’re considering working with Vanport Fireplace & Chimney. I outlined my experience with the follow up update exp.

Update for last communication, there were some scheduling issues that I talk about in my earlier review. Simple things like the sealant weren’t done until we called over and over again. To make matters worse, we had some work done on our roof and the technician told us we had barely any water sealant at the base of the chimney. I told them I would reach out to the responsible company about this. I sent pictures, emailed and called with no real response. I was told “oh so and so is busy but will call for sure!”

In the end no one from Vanport answered for that mistake only called me later to ask “what can we do to change your review?” Lol.

Not sure I am allowed to mention the experience of other companies in a review so, I will conclude that chimney base seal was remedied free of charge by another company not Vanport who we paid over 2k to.

5/1/23 We enjoyed working with the initial staff person who evaluated our chimney and fireplace. He seemed very knowledgeable (the persons name is Mike).

From here is where it gets a bit chaotic. Billing is all over the place, scheduling is also not followed.

Due to the billing/miscommunication and overall lack of organization, I wouldn’t work with them again or recommend to others.

TLDR: work looked good, disorganized but if you’re willing to keep track of billing and schedule, you should be OK.

We had the following things done to our chimney: Pressure wash this chimney 100% removing all moss and debris from the exterior brick facing
Seal all cracks in this chimney crown and along the horizontal seam below, using a crown wash
Tuckpoint this chimney from the top to the roofline as needed.
Grind out the joints approx. 1" and repoint.

Louis and his team did a phenomenal job restoring the chimney on my dad's home in downtown Vancouver. Their craftsmanship and attention to detail while not breaking the bank was exactly what he needed. I would recommend Vanport Fireplace and Chimney to anyone.

We spent a significant amount of money here to rehab a large, natural stone chimney from 1974. They built a new crown, manufactured and attached a chimney cap, installed a cricket for water management, stuffed the 2 extra flus with insulation (we didn't know there were 2 extra flus and still don't know why), relined the inside of the chimney, and installed 2 new Blaze King wood stoves.

Both Louis, the owner who quoted us, and Jake, the project lead who spent a lot of time at our house doing the work, were fabulous to work with. There were a few bumps along the way, and some moments where I was really worried (like when Jake had to grind down a stone to get one of the stoves in), but they handled the work AND my anxiety like true professionals. In that stone grinding scenario, he actually painted the ground portion to age it and have it match the rest of the stones. I can't even tell that hit happened.

Of all the contractors we've worked with, this is the most money we've ever spent at one time, and it was also the most obvious value we've ever had from a project. It was worth every penny.

When Louis was quoting us, he said "we're the only ones in town who can do all of this." He seemed honest and confident, but at the time I wasn't sure if that was true, so I called a few other providers. It was true. Nobody else could do masonry, roofing, and stove installation, so we would have to get separate quotes and act as general contractor to do all the work, which meant the price would be very uncertain with a competitor. We went with Vanport for convenience, price certainty, and because they seemed like good and trustworthy folks. I'm glad we did. The next time we choose Vanport, it will be for the high quality of their work. They've earned a lifelong customer.

It's the $100 for travel told they coming from Portland.Then upon calling to make payment
The lady says no it would be from Vancouver office.which they do Google maps for thirty miles .I'm probly wrong but if you charge over twenty miles if I live 22miles is that $100.00

First got a chimney clean but as my old 1930 cottage’s chimney has aged the suggestion was that I probably should avoid using it. Sob!
Excellent options were given and after considering them, went with an energy efficient wood burning stove. Which I love to death! Service was brilliant, installation a breeze, and while it is not the most economical of solutions I get to use a beautiful wood-burning stove when my need for fireplace beauty is craving.

So many excuses... I'm sorry that Portland Fireplace and Chimney couldn't finish a two day job in a three month period. My money was ultimately refunded because I got tired of waiting and being put off month after month. A complete waste of my time and I have to start over from scratch. Not to mention the level 2 inspection which was not refunded but a total waste of money. Nice people to work with, but I didn't have a good experience.
