TC Hafford Basement Systems

TC Hafford did an outstanding job reinforcing my basement walls and replacing a collapsing entrance with a new bulkhead. The quality of the work was excellent, and everything was done professionally. Last year, they also installed maintenance-free gutters and a sump pump system with multiple backups—both solid, worry-free installations. I'm very satisfied with their work and would definitely recommend them.

Called for an estimate. Somebody came over and sat me through a PowerPoint presentation of options. They kept asking for what was impacting my decision and if I was calling anybody else. I asked for a copy of the estimate to talk with my wife about it and choose between two options. The person who quoted us said he could get his mobile printer out of the car or just email it to me. I agreed to the email. It's been a week. I've tried calling twice and my wife emailed for the quote. Nothing but a form response. I was calling to move forward with the work. Now I'm going elsewhere.

Both the sales/home visit guy and the work crew were all very polite, helpful, knowledgeable, and provided a great experience.

I never felt upsold and we were able to DIY some things like clearing/leveling the basement and burying extra drain line to save some money. Looking it up online, the price to buy equivalent equipment and DIY was close enough we felt the labor and warranty were worth what they were charging.

The guys who did the install were fast, efficient, and did a really clean job without causing any damage to the house. Just a clean hole they sent the pipe for the sump through. And they were very thoughtful about how they routed the pipe within basement so it's all out of the way.

So far the dehumidifier is working as advertised, but I haven't had them long enough to verify the sump is as well. No reason to think it's not though.

Very happy with our experience. It's a big company so I can't speak for it as a whole, but our experience has been great.

As part of a home rebuild project this last year, I hired TC Hafford originally to repair a few cracks on one of my basement walls. They arrived when they said they would, and did the job they promised to do. Because of this experience, several months later I hired them again for some gutter installations. Again, they delivered on their word. From their office staff, to the onsite crew- all around pleasant people to deal with. No hesitation in recommending them.

Workers were very polite. Very knowledgeable . They worked hard . They cleaned up their worksite very well. Sump pump system installed for 5,000. I would highly recommend TC Hafford. I would definitely have them back .

Performed the work on time and very effectively. Never imagined our basement could be as well insulated (e.g. like the rest of the house). Excellent results. The accuracy of the Maine Rebate paperwork could have been a bit better, but after a couple of corrections, they got there.

Whatever fix these guys tell you that you need for your foundation - I would get a second opinion, especially if you have an old home. It could save you tens of thousands of dollars.

My home is currently on the market. We were under contract and the potential buyers had the home inspected. There was some concern (from them) about our homes foundation (home built in 1850, granite foundation) so these guys came down to take a look. Next thing I know I get a quote for nearly $40k with all of these repairs that need to happen. Even a nice diagram showing the deflection points in my foundation walls. We've never had issues with our foundation, so this was a surprise to us. Naturally I got a second opinion. I'm not sure I could have had found a more credentialed person - an independent structural engineer with nearly 50 years experience, 15,000 homes inspected in his career. He comes down and takes a look - and tells me my foundation is totally and completely fine. No immediate concerns and if there were concerns the fix wouldn't be what these folks were saying. It would be much more affordable. He writes up a report approving our foundation. So someone is wrong here, and I don't think it's this guy who stands gain nothing from the inspection good or bad. I personally would not let these folks down in my basement after all of this. Oh and the buyers pulled their offer.

Great job. Attentive to post installation issues. As shown came back and filled in back area with concrete by hand. But shows smooth surface of concrete floor. First image is underlayment layer. We had to take out stairs for installation. Upkeep /maintenance personnel also likable and efficient.

We first met the TCHafford crew 15 years ago, when we were moving to Maine and contracted with them to install a basement floor system to keep the basement floor dry. They have been excellent to work with ever since, with a fully dry basement, a repair to a foundation wall, maintenance and replacement of the very important sump pump, and a change in location of the water egress hardware when we paved the driveway. Water in basements is a perpetual problem here in Maine, with rocks and boulders and springs popping up in so many places. Thanks to the work of TC Hafford, our basement is a totally usable space; I had my office down there for remote work until I retired a few years ago--now my many crafts take up space in the basement, with no problems with dampness or mold, etc. We would, without a doubt, strongly recommend the TC Hafford Basement Systems team !!

Quote came in for less than competitors and they had their guys out here within a couple of weeks. The install crew, Phil and his assistant, were polite, clean, and professional. The new sump pump they installed looks great. Just need to wait for spring to get the discharge line buried but I am confident they will get out here in a timely manner and do that.

We love this company! They water-proofed our basement years ago and saved our home. We've had them back to replace our sump-pump twice. (Just because they were old.) We've had nothing but professional, courteous service every time we've contacted them. We recommend them to anyone that tells us they are having water issues in their basements. This is a great company to work with.

It was a joy working with the entire TC Hafford team. We felt informed and supported during every step of the process and could not have asked for a better experience.

We've had a TC Hafford Basement System in our crawl space for a number of years, and it has been virtually maintenance free. Late this past summer or early fall, we noticed that quite a bit of water had accumulated on the floor near the dehumidifier. We called, and TCH sent out a tech in short order. Although he couldn't find a leak and his inspection of the dehumidifier indicated it was performing to spec, he patched the vinyl floor in the few spots that seemed most likely to be the origin of the leak. We placed a wifi camera on top of the dehumidifier to monitor the area. After a week or two, we had a rain storm and the water returned. TCH sent senior tech, Brian, who did some more thorough patching and we crossed our fingers in anticipation of the next rain storm. A few weeks later the rain returned as well as the minor flooding. This went on for at least two more visits with Brian and his crew working hard to resolve the problem, all done with good humor and basically without charge except for the minor cost of some fill material. The puzzle was finally solved (we believe) when we all realized that the window nearest the wet area had rotted and been replaced early last summer and was not properly sealed by the non-TCH contractor. Brian and his crew returned one more time and sealed the window properly. My wife and I are very happy with the perseverance, time and effort expended by Brian and his crew to solve this intractable issue. We highly recommend to anyone looking for a basement system to use TC Hafford.

The technician who came to service the sump pump system that was installed last year was very professional. He answered our questions and cleaned up the sump pump area when he was finished.

Work arrived as scheduled and ALL work was completed in the time frame described in the contract. It was a complete joy to eavesdrop on the crews conversations!!

TC Hafford Basement Systems installed a sump pump backup system which has worked perfectly and has saved my cellar from flooding. They were prompt, friendly and professional. They answered all my questions and provided added information which has been very helpful. They do annual maintenance and recommend any changes they believe might be helpful. I would recommend them to anyone.

Edited to add - work was done in July 2024 but it has been so dry, I waited until we got a proper storm (for sump to kick on) before leaving a review.

Hired TC Hafford to do a complete overhaul of our dirt floor basement that would flood anytime we got more than 2” of rain in 24 hours. The process start to finish was fantastic. Rick was personable, approachable, articulate, and explained all options with varying price points to us. We decided to go for the option that included cementing the basement with water guard, a dehumidifier, spray foam around our joists, and sump pump system. The various crews worked very hard and were communicative about what days/times they would be by to do the work.

I’m happy to report that we got 3” of rain last night (with 5-6 inches of snow melt) and the system performed exactly as advertised - we still have a dry basement this morning and can sleep better at night knowing our house isn’t actively flooding itself from the bottom up. An added bonus is that our house stays much warmer (particularly the basement).

Would recommend to anyone I know who is having wet basement issues - great people all the way from the office to the front line boots on the ground people - easy to work with and trust.

Jessie (service technician) was AWESOME! He called ahead, arrived as scheduled, removed our old dehumidifier, replaced it with our new SaniDry Sedona. When he was done, he explained the new dehumidifier operation and encouraged me to register the warranty.

We had a basement that was flooding every time it rained. Hafford came in, gave us a quote. Mike Penna was wonderful! So patient with all of our credits. The work team was here on time, got the drains installed, as well as the sump pump and battery backup. They cleaned up after themselves and were also very nice people. What a great company! Yeah kind of odd that when you schedule an estimate for something to do with your basement, you get a call back saying they don’t actually do that (even though it’s listed on their site that they do in fact do it) very misleading to say you do all things considered”basementy” when in fact you don’t.

They lifted my mom's garage which was sinking and cracking. They were very professional and considerate. My mom is very happy with their work.

Installation crews are courteous, professional and hard working. System works as it should. Also dealing with the office people on the phone always goes smoothly. They understand the work done in the field and are very helpful.

The most unorganized company we have ever ran into. It took about 6 back and forths to get them to have the correct information on the proposal before signing the documents. Paid a deposit and they said they had no record of it and went back and forth until they found it. They made us schedule 4 months out because of how busy they were and then cancelled at 3pm on a Friday for a 8AM Monday service due to “a scheduling error”. No work has even been done yet and we have had an absolutely terrible experience dealing with the office staff at this company. Avoid them completely

Mike, the company rep, was very detailed in explaining the system & answering all of our questions; Dave & his crew were very customer friendly & extremely attentive to our needs for minimizing dust & cleaning up the project. I honestly regret using T.C. Hafford. The people doing the work, five stars, the rest, zero stars. I made the mistake of trusting the recommendations based on their reputation and recommendations. I suggest you get second and third opinions. The salesperson was, at best, incompetent but was actually just dishonest. The work done based on their recommendations took eleven months to complete and didn’t even address the root issue. The actual fix would have cost a small fraction of what I paid them.
Day of install, nobody showed up or called. It was then rescheduled when I called them.
I had a full basement drainage system installed with a sump pump. Some of the misinformation provided, and yes I have these in writing:
1. My electrical system was sufficient, and I wouldn’t need anything else. No, I have to hire an electrician to wire the sump pump into the breaker box.
2. The purpose of the pieces being sold to me.
3. Location of piping to be installed
4. The cause of the water in my basement.
Within two weeks of the work being completed, I had more water in my basement than I had ever had before. The salesperson came back out and said I needed to spend thousands more to correct. This wasn’t true and also when I learned I had been given incorrect information about what I had purchased. Multiple calls and emails where I pushed back and tried to get more than one sentence answers to my questions for clarification. Then another flood with more water than I ever had previously. This system had only made the issue worse by drilling into my foundation. It took another couple of months of repeated calls and visits to get this under control.
Shoutout to someone from the production team who finally realized the actual reason I was getting water in my basement that I will now have to hire someone else to address since this wasn’t it.
The drainage line obviously can’t be buried in winter, so I was told April. Once again, no follow-up so I was calling and asking because there was a giant pipe sticking out of the front of my house. After they sent a survey that I completed, they sent out this poor team on the absolute hottest day of the year in June to the point I brought them ice water and electrolytes because of concern for heat stroke.

Update a month later:
Within about an hour of posting last time the production manager was on the phone to talk about my experience. Hopeful they would try to make things right I agreed to have him come out and meet.
TL; DR it was a waste of my time; nothing was resolved or made right. They may have done something in exchange for removing this review, though!
I walked him through the issues and how I feel like I wasted over $12k on this system. Between all of the excuses, he told me that fixing the actual issue was outside their scope so there was nothing they could/would do.
One suggestion he made was they could hook up the electrical properly since I had been lied to about these requirements. I accepted.
He then said he would have to ask someone at the office and asked me, 'If we do this for you, will you take down your review'. I declined and expressed how inappropriate that was. Now if they didn't do this, I would know it was because my review stayed up. Fixing this one small thing didn't make up for the last year and thousands I lost because of it. He then talked about how expensive it is to get the electrical wired properly. He was SO close to understanding.
I followed up after not hearing back for weeks and he said they would cover half the cost. I confirmed that there was nothing else they would do to make this right. When I said this had been a waste of my time, he turned hostile, said he had work to do and hung up.

Travis did a great job and paid attention to the situation. I am pleased with the service provided by TC Hafford.

The new gutters installed today look great and the guys did a great job. When the work was completed, they cleaned the entire area. I would highly recommend TC Hafford!

Extremely appreciative of the quality work TC Hafford executed in the basement of our rental property. Everything they promised was executed professionally. Made a significant impact on drying our basement which, in turn, made the entire property nicer to stay in.

Problem was a leaky foundation. After getting in contact with TCH a survey technician visited. His explanation was concise and he answered all questions clearly. We had to wait until spring for the contract crew. They arrived in a timely manner, slightly delayed by rain, and went to work. They were diligent, cordial, and answered all questions. They were focused on fixing the problem and to date, their work has been successful. I would hire the same crew again.

TC Hafford installed a triple safe sump pump system as well as clean space and foam around the interior walls of our cottage on Mount Desert Island. They were professional, competent, and delivered exactly what we expected on the schedule we were given. It’s been a couple of months since the installation and everything is performing as expected and we have not seen any water in our crawl space or cellar. It turned a dark and damp cellar into a dry space that we can actually use for storage without fear of water damage. Excellent work!

Contacted TC Hafford Basement Systems regarding a badly needed repair to the foundation where the Bulkhead Doors are located as an Outside Entrance to our basement. After years of searching for a contractor to repair the foundation and replace the Bulkhead Doors I contacted TC Hafford via E-Mail, with in a short amount of time I received a telephone call from them. I was informed that a Planner Estimator, Mark Smith, would contact me regarding an appointment regarding an estimate. Mark came to my residence, viewed the requested work and gave me an estimate before departing my residence. The work was completed by a TC Hafford Employee by the name of Dave. His work was completed in a timely manner which also included the installation of new Bulkhead Doors. Dave's work is outstanding, would highly recommend him for cement/concrete repairs.

Excellent service, timely, explained all the needs and options. A continuation of many years of excellence stemming from when our basement was first redone.

I will update further if and when we move forward with the install, but we had requested an estimate and Ron Bedard came to our house, on time as scheduled, and completed a thorough assessment of the project. He took the time to explain the problem, and his recommended solution. He gave us realistic options and was flexible with regards to our budget and other projects we had lined up.

I cannot give higher praise to TC Hafford for the waterproofing job they did in my basement, especially since the torrential rains of the last two years. My house is built over exposed ledge and as the hydrostatic pressure increased over the years, my basement looked like a series of waterfalls every time it rained. The work was professional, clearly stated, cleanly and courteously done from the estimate to its completion. I cannot over emphasize how grateful I am to this company…simply the best!

TCHafford's basement encapsulation was the first step in renovating our 1870's cape, and has proved its worth in the subsequent two years. (We were able to get rid of our oil furnace; air quality upstairs markedly improved.) Annual maintenace by TCHafford is thorough, fixing any problems that show up due to wear as well as ensuring that the sump pump is working well.

We started with TC Hafford back in 2007. Every step of the way has been very professional. Our basement waterproofing was not tested until the significant ocean storms of the winter-2024.
I will tell you that the system performed very well, worked hard for over a week, but also kept the water out of our finished basement. Their annual service has been worth it. Their staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. I will reccoment this company, we will continue with them going into the future.

TC Hafford did an incredible job waterproofing our crawl space in 2020. Their crew crawled into spaces that were so small and tight I had never even tried to get into them. They subsequently added a sump pump when we realized that we needed one, and since then they have come out each year to clean and maintain the system. We went from having an absolute swamp under our house to a clean and dry space. It's just incredible. And they come on time, clean up after themselves, and are the nicest people. I recommend them highly!

TC Hafford has been in my life since 2016 when I had my basement waterproofed. They also installed an industrial sump pump and dehumidifier. They provide excellent maintenance each year on these products. I highly recommend this company.
