Suwannee County Building Department

Used to be a nice office to visit and process permit, now it is horrible from down system to one person working. It is frustrating as it seems they don't have system but only FIFO?!?! They need to hire smart administrator that can think solution. They should prioritize the roofing permit since hurricane season is already here. It already took me 8 months on stressful dealing with insurance and now the permit is so slow as snail. I wonder if we can sue them if our roof gets an extensive damage for the delay?

11/3/23 we moved to Florida. 11/8/23 my husband went to their office to obtain a copy of our final roof permit and was told he had to submit this request via email. He submitted his email request in 11/9/23. On 12/1/23 after still not receiving a copy of our final roof permit we called and were told we would receive a copy of it that day. On 12/4/23 we called again because we still did not receive it on 12/1/23. 12/4/23 we received a basic email from an employee with only a permit number, type of permit & date of permit but still no copy as we requested & needed for our home owners insurance and personal records. 12/5/23 we drove back down to the building department again for them to finally print out the physical copy and email it to us in less than 10 minutes. Why did we have to wait 27 days for something that could be done in person, the first time we requested it in person on 11/8/23 and print and email it to us in less than 10 minutes? First impression this was very annoying, frustrating & disappointing. We almost had our homeowners insurance cancelled because of their poor customer service, communication and prolonged processing time.

I'm disappointed with the negative nature that Mr. Meek exhibited today when I met with him. I had purchased property in the county and needed specific information about my property. He was discouraging to say the least. If I hadn't known the correct questions to ask I would have left in tears.
