I hired Stay Off the Roof to install trim lights on my home. My salesperson Jack was great, although his gaslighting used car salesman approach was draining. He was constantly talking about how his company was the greatest and how I would be so happy. When he matched a discount another company offered me, he told me repeatedly how he was going to get in trouble for giving me such a great discount, but he was willing to do it just for me. The entire time we discussed the job, I was told I was getting the newest version of the software. After the job was completed, I was told I was supposed to get the old version and they upgraded me for free out of the goodness of their heart. I mean come on, quit blowing smoke up my you know what. This sales approach was grating and irritating.
We discussed my needs, and he made himself available after hours and on weekends to discuss issues. On the day of the install, the crew showed up. The crew lead was Luke. He had no idea what he was doing, asking me how far down each side of the home they were doing. He said he wasn't briefed on anything and just had a drawing. I have bird wire on my home and asked them to be careful working around it, as I have had bad experiences with contractors in the past damaging my home.
Once the work was done, Luke was supposed to walk me through how to use the app to control the lights. He made it very apparent he wanted to leave and quickly rushed me through the app. He became annoyed when I asked questions, telling me to use the tutorial videos in the app. I noted some of my bird wire was damaged. Luke became very defensive, took no responsibility, and literally said "sorry" and left.
After this experience, I called Jack. He said he would come out sometime the next week to look at it. After this bad experience, I decided to take a closer look at the work Luke and his crew did. I noted many of the tracks that hold the lights were scratched and one was dented. The tracks aren't even installed evenly, sticking out in random places, etc. I contacted Jack again, telling him I was unhappy with the work. His only response was I will come out sometime next week , take photos, and make an assessment. This was not the response I was expecting.
I will gladly follow-up on this review and give the company kudos if they make it right. However, from the responses I have been receiving it just doesn't seem like anybody is taking it seriously. During the consultation stage, I let Jack know about my bad experiences with other contractors and that I was a little more picky than the average customer. I let Luke know as well. Apparently it didn't make a difference. I paid many thousands of dollars for these lights; I don't think it's unreasonable to expect undamaged products along with a crew that doesn't damage your home and not take responsibility for it. I told them this morning I almost cancelled the job because I was worried something like this might happen---I should have listened to my gut. Hopefully the company takes responsibility.
Update
I had to delete the updated portions of my review to give me more room to respond to the fabrications of the company's response. Basically the company responded quickly and did not do anything while continuing to be disrespectful towards me. Yes, my bird wire company fixed the damage as I had a warranty on it. I did not tell them SOTR damaged it--I didn't want to void the warranty. They never confirmed that SOTR didn't touch it. They basically came out and fixed it, simple as that. I don't know where SOTR is getting that from, that the bird wire company confirmed in their favor?? To cover for themselves? The owner did come out, and they did two minor cosmetic touch-ups. The tracks are still dented and scratched. And yes, I do have some negative reviews on my history, but if you actually take the time to scroll down there are many 5 star reviews. I give credit where it is due. SOTR just doesn't like being held accountable.
I received quotes from 4 different companies and the sale person (Jack) was the only person who identified the issue with how our facia boards were angled. The install crew, led by Kyle, was great. I watched them make sure everything was installed correctly and a great job in ensuring the area was cleaned up when they were done. The lights look great and there are so many programs in the app to change the light colors. We are very happy with the product and how it looks.
Jake took care of me. He knew exactly what I wanted and they did professional work most definitely gonna recommend them. They did an excellent job on my landscaping and the Lighting makes a huge difference
