The majority of customer reviews for Southern Exposure Solar are overwhelmingly positive, highlighting the company's exceptional customer service, professional communication, and straightforward installation process. Many customers appreciated the competitive pricing and felt that their systems were tailored to their specific needs. The installation team is frequently described as courteous and efficient, ensuring a high standard of work. However, some negative feedback was noted regarding warranty issues and pricing concerns, which suggests that while customers generally have a favorable view, there are some areas for improvement.
- They did a great job and were willing to work with me to design a system that was not only most effective for our needs but also aesthetically pleasing.
- Grayson communicated throughout the entire process and made me feel comfortable.
- The team was professional, courteous, and on time.
- I had a phenomenal experience with Southern Exposure, from beginning to end.
- The SES team is a first class operation.
- I have a problem that has been going on for a year and a half.
- Quoted me over $80k for a home solar system installed in a new construction steel garage.
- I found out that the 370's on my roof were not available and no longer being produced.

I was very satisfied with my experience with Southern Exposure Solar. They did a great job and were willing to work with me to design a system that was not only most effective for our needs but also aesthetically pleasing in its layout and match to the shape of our roof. I found their price to be very competitive and their warranty to best. I highly recommend them! No complaints.

Quoting another reviewer: “I recently had solar panels installed by Southern Exposure Solar in Ashland, VA, and I couldn't be happier with the experience." We got 3 bids, all compelling: (1) Unsolicited, from a major solar marketing company with reasonable reviews. They contract out the work. (2) Dominion Power’s in-house solar company. They contract out but you can assume Dominion will be around for a long time. (3) SES per recommendation of a good friend who is a tenured professor in the sciences at VCU. SES’ pricing was significantly lower, but I was mostly concerned about quality of installation, longevity of equipment, and having someone to turn to if we have problems in the next 5-10 years. SES is local and IS the installer, so there's no middleman and they are committed to quality and customer satisfaction, and their own longevity. They are affiliated with CertainTeed, a roof shingle company who provides SES with their private-label panels. CertainTeed’s warranty on panels, inverters, and installation, is the best in the industry. CertainTeed has been around for 100 years and (like Dominion) should be around for my lifetime. SES is certified by NABCEP, which is considered the gold standard (says my brother, who installs solar panels in SW Virginia). SES had good communications, good system and software, timely installation, met Henrico code (of course), and the fit and finish are good. Our nominal payback is about 9 years based on (1) selling net kWhrs produced to Dominion at full price (subject to curtailment in the future), (2) price of the system net of tax rebates (Trump's Big Beautiful Bill will remove this), (3) the expected declining value of the SRECs, and (4) expected rising rates of electricity (faster than inflation). Google says that "a home with solar panels can sell for 3% to 4% more than a comparable home without them." If we sold our house today, we would get back our initial investment, therefore our actual payback was 0 months (i.e., our investment translated directly into a higher value of our home). Do your own homework. I believe if you end up choosing SES, you will be delighted, as we are.

We had SES install our solar system, and we are very pleased with the result. The entire process was straight forward. Grayson and Fred would great to work with. They answered all of our questions and made us feel comfortable with the process. Highly recommended.

In the world of solar there are plenty of companies claiming to be better than the others. Southern Exposure never made that claim with words but instead demonstrated it. I interviewed a number of companies before choosing them and in the end I am very glad that I did. My system looks great and is performing really well. Working with a company that is professional and has integrity is extremely important to me as I imagine it is to you. Both Grayson and Fred were a pleasure to work with. If you choose Southern Exposure you won’t be disappointed.

I recently had solar panels installed by Southern Exposure Solar in Ashland, VA, and I couldn't be happier with the experience. As a repeat customer (I added 1.2kW PV system to the previous 6kW PV system), I returned to them because of their exceptional service and expertise. Once again, they delivered beyond my expectations!
Grayson Goodstein, the CEO, was outstanding to work with. His professionalism, dedication, and clear communication made the entire process seamless. The installation team was efficient, courteous, and meticulous, ensuring everything was installed to the highest standard.
The quality of their work, combined with their commitment to customer satisfaction, truly sets Southern Exposure Solar apart. It's reassuring to know I’m investing in renewable energy with a company that values excellence. I wholeheartedly recommend Southern Exposure Solar to anyone considering solar panel installation!

If you are waiting on installing your solar panels - do NOT wait any longer. Southern Exposures is THE company to go with! From the time I met the CEO to discuss my project, the entire team was professional, courteous and on time. The proposal provided by Southern Exposures was extremely competitive from a price perspective, and perfect from a technical perspective. After conducting reference checks, we decided on Southern Exposures for our project. We are COMPLETELY glad we went with this firm. The safety measures they took during the install allayed my fears of injury, and the quality of their work was superb. Throughout the entire process, they answered all questions I had. The installation of the structure, infrastructure, panels and disconnects were all done in an extremely professional manner.
I could not be happier with the install, and know you will be also.
Best, Marcus

I was in the midst of doing a lot of research regarding solar when I found Southern Exposure Solar. I got quotes from multiple companies but I wanted to go with a local company that had been around for long enough to be established. Grayson met with us multiple times and was very accommodating answering all of our questions and letting us take our time doing our own research. When we decided to go with SES, I was confident that we made the right choice. There was a delay with the county on permits but Grayson communicated throughout the entire process. Once installation began, the team was very friendly and efficient. Frank and team explained the systems and options very well. Overall, I'm so pleased with SES and would recommend them to anyone looking into solar.

The home solar buying experience for many can feel like buying a used car. After reviewing many big brand companies for installing solar at our house no one company checked all the boxes. Power generation, cost, maintenance and visual appearance. We found Southern Exposure Solar and after the first meeting we knew this would be a different experience. Grayson took the time to review our options and identify the best way to leverage our roof space to maximize power generation. His no pressure way of conversation left us feeling like we were having a discussion rather than a sales pitch. The pricing was appropriate for the product and warranty (25 years) we were receiving. The black-on-black solar plans and supports created a clean appearance that to this day we get asked if we still have solar because it blends into the house architecture. The installation team were highly professional and checked in and communicated the steps they were working through. Overall, a very positive experience and would recommend Grayson and the Southern Exposure Solar team to anyone looking at evaluating solar for their home or business.

The entire experience has been great from my first meeting to the install all the way to my most recent power bill for the month of August being almost nothing in an all electric house. Grayson took the time to sit down and answer all my questions and show me some of the materials they used (and I confirmed by inspecting the materials during install) and always let me make a decision without pressure. I like their approach to the warranty and the local knowledge really helped the whole process in ways bigger companies cannot hope to do. The on-site installers were courteous and worked with me when I had accidentally scheduled some tree work and let them know someone else was coming.

Our solar system was installed by Southern Exposure Solar and turned on a little over two years ago. We found Southern Exposure Solar through EnergySage. I interviewed six different companies, but Grayson and Southern Exposure stood out. Grayson spent a lot of time answering all of my questions – our first two meetings/calls were each well over an hour long. I got the sense that Grayson was really listening to my concerns and wasn’t just trying to give me the answer I wanted in order to get me to make a purchase (I got a different vibe from the reps from some other companies). Grayson also recommended a contractor who was able to relocate our plumbing roof vents, allowing us to fit a couple additional panels on the roof. The actual installation went smoothly and the everything looks good on the roof. I especially like how the conduit coming down from the roof follows the contours of the house instead of dropping straight down. There have been no issues with any part of the system since it was installed. And, lastly, Southern Exposure did nearly all the legwork required to get us set up to sell SRECs.
We ultimately chose Southern Exposure because 1) their price was the lowest of all the companies we talked with, 2) the warranty through Certain Teed is strong, and 3) Southern Exposure is a local company. If we move within the area and need solar again, we’ll reach out to Southern Exposure again.
I should add that my five-star review means “I highly recommend them!,” not “They are perfect!” During the install process, there were some hiccups. There was some sort of miscommunication with Dominion, so our system wasn’t turned on as quickly as it could have been. Also, there were some challenges with getting the electricity consumption monitoring hooked up. While, of course, it would have been nice if these issues hadn’t come up in the first place, I was pleased with how they were handled by Southern Exposure.

Even before my system was complete and powered on, I was recommending Southern Exposure Solar to neighbors and friends. I am a super-researcher and had interviewed 10 solar install companies before choosing Grayson and Fred at Southern Exposure. Most of their competitors were larger operations, had a "sales" guy/gal who were a little pushy and/or lacked what I sniffed out to be full transparency, integrity and passion for solar that Grayson and Fred had in spades. The other big reason for choosing SES was the product = CertainTeed. Again, I did my homework on the company and products. Since I needed a new roof (who knew I had hail damage?? Enough for a full replacement compliments of my homeowners!) I chose a CertainTeed high-end shingle, then the choice for a complementary CertainTeed solar system seemed a no-brainer. SES's pricing was not the absolute best/lowest, however, close enough, plus the financing (yes, I needed financing) was definitely the best deal. The CertainTeed solar combined with the quality of the micro inverters and all the other jazz and amazing warranty set-up with one transfer to a new homeowner sold me. The install went smoothly with Tyler, Snow and Eric; they were professional, clean and friendly. The county inspection went off without a hitch and after 3-weeks, my power company gave the green light to power up! I am excitedly staring at the Enphase charts, watching the production numbers ... I am thrilled with my decision to hire Southern Exposure Solar and imagine you will be, too.

What can I say, Grayson Goodstein is an outstanding guy. Extremely professional, genuine, down-to-earth and easy to work with. In my opinion, he's one of the most trustworthy people you'll ever meet. I've got nothing but great things to say about the entire Southern Exposure Solar team.

I am sure most other companies can do a great install. My personal opinion is that a really company is determined by when there is a problem. And I have a problem that has been going on for a year and a half.
Slightly less than 2 years after install I had three of my twenty one were producing significantly less power than the others. After a couple trips out and some monitoring for several months we addressed the warranty from Certain Teed. I found out that the 370's on my roof were not available and no longer being produced. Certain Teed them completely honored the warranty. During this timeframe Grayson and I discussed resolution to the problem since Certain Teed honored the warranty since I still had 3, now 4 panels that are bad. We discussed design and pricing but in October last year Grayson did not want to anything until after of the year. Supposedly a couple 370' s were found and adding one or two panels was also discussed. After the first of the year I sent a good faith payment and he wanted to draw up a contract. Since then, I have heard nothing but crickets. So at this point, a for profit business as a dedicated installer for a major manufacturer of solar panels that installed defective panels wont show up for a fix, but can take my money. We discudded this Grayson, part of the reason I got out of the construction business was because contractors were not doing the right thing. Fix my panels or send my money back.

Grayson was amazing. He went through everything step by step, explained what would need to happen to give us the best result, and then gave us his honest opinion - we should not get solar right now.
He could have very well told us this was a good thing to do and move forward, but he was more concerned about us and what our goals were than he was about making a buck. I went through several places and felt like they all just wanted to get my money, but he was down to earth and honest every step of the way. I would highly, highly, highly recommend him and his company for your solar needs. He will steer you right.

Great company, worked with Jason who seemed very knowledgeable and was very helpful throughout the entire process. We did a deep dive on going solar and discovered this company through word of mouth. Upon researching, it was one of the very few solar companies that had a reasonably large number of reviews but no bad "horror story" experiences. That was hard to find in such a saturated field.
SES proved to be a reputable, trustworthy company with a great product at a competitive price. I highly recommend engaging with them on your next solar project.

I had to get my panels off for a roof repair. Grayson was very friendly, professional, and compassionate. They did a great job with a very good price.

Quoted me over $80k for a home solar system installed in a new construction steel garage next to the 1300 sq foot house house.
When I got the $80k quote, I knew this was a company I wouldn't be doing business with.
I told the person I wasn't going to take any more of his time. I sent a link to the cost of the equipment from a top rated home solar supplier for a 12kv Li-ion rack system. He offered to consult if I needed any help doing it myself.
Since then I talked with other installers. They said the price I was quoted would cover a system for a massive, premium home.

We had a phenomenal experience with Southern Exposure, from beginning to end. I found them through EnergySage, and was delighted to land on a local company with such great expertise and people. Their pricing was competitive with other offers we solicited, but what set them apart was their level of service. They were the only company willing to do a site visit prior to signing an agreement, which gave me a higher level of confidence in their estimates and projections (given some concerns I had about the impact of the treeline behind our home). When he visited, Jason didn't put on the hard sell, but walked through all of my questions and concerns, talked candidly about pros and cons, and captured drone imagery to improve the accuracy of the model. Throughout the process, he was extremely patient with my (many) questions and always highly responsive. We ended up having some plumbing vents rerouted to make more space for panels; SES doesn't do that type of work themselves, but recommended a great contractor and provided models/estimates both ways so I could evaluate the ROI and make an informed decision.
When it came to the installation, Tyler and the team were professional, impressively quick, communicative, and easy to work with. SES prides themselves on keeping the visual impact of the system as minimal as possible -- and they didn't disappoint. It wasn't our highest priority, since everything is on the back of our home; but a few days after install I asked my wife how much she was noticing the changes, and her response was, "Oh, I haven't noticed at all. I keep meaning to look but forgetting it's there."
Other selling points/positive aspects of the experience include how seamlessly Britney handled all the paperwork on our behalf; how well the SES team communicated internally (I never felt like I was being bounced around from sales to install or anything like that); and the CertainTeed warranty, which was superior to any other offer I reviewed.
Our system is only recently up and running; I'll plan to edit and share the results after our first year, but given how things are going so far, and how much due diligence SES did, I'm confident that it will deliver.

Southern Exposure Solar was recommended to me by my brother who had them install a solar array on their house. From the initial call with Grayson all the way through the installation of the solar panels, I had a great experience with them. Since the completion of the project, I have only paid the base fee for connection to the grid; my old power bills are a thing of the past! If you are in the market for solar, you should give Southern Exposure Solar a call. You will not be disappointed.

The SES team is a first class operation. From the Sales presentations to the actual installation process,
the experience as been exceptional. The solar panels are doing what they are designed to do and my electric bill has been less than $7 for the last three months!

I soke with Jason and had a very informative conversation about what i am looking to do with a solar system for my home, he was very upfront with me about the cost and procedure to install a system, although we could come together with a system for me, he was very professional and i appreciate his effort, sounds like a great company to do business to with for anyone who is looking.

Background:
Wagging Tails Kennel is a family owned business located in Chesterfield,Va. We provide pet boarding and grooming services. We have 111 indoor/outdoor kennels with heating and AC. Our electric bills in the summer 2022 were over $1000 per month! We have wanted to add solar power to the business for years. Now, with the tax rebates from the Federal government and the Virginia Solar Renewable Energy Credits (SREC), it’s actually a very good investment.
Choosing an installer:
I was contacted by a solar panel installation company out of Phoenix, AZ 16 months ago about putting solar panels on my house. I did some checking on that company’s reputation and decided I needed someone else. I looked online for who was local and had a good track record and found Southern Exposure Solar. I sent them a message over the weekend and was pleased to get a reply first thing on Monday morning. Grayson impressed me immediately with his knowledge and honesty. Southern Exposure Solar evaluated my home and both of my business buildings and recommended against installing panels on my home and one of the business buildings, but the other building was an excellent candidate. Unfortunately, that is the building that uses the least amount of electricity. Grayson explained that the meters for both business buildings could be combined so that the solar panels on the west building could offset the usage of the east building also. If we could get enough panels on the roof of the east building, Wagging Tails Kennel would have low or no electricity bills for the life of the system (25 - 40 years). They installed CertainTeed solar panels which have an excellent warranty.
Design and Planning:
It turns out this is a lot more complicated than I had expected. Chesterfield County’s permit process is difficult for any contractor, but the county put extra hurdles in place for commercial installations.
We are a facility that cares for over 150 pets during our busiest weeks. We needed the installation done when the west building was empty.
Oddly, the fire department requirements for businesses is higher than for homes! Fire access cut into the available square footage on the roof.
Maximizing the number of panels on one building so that it could produce electricity for both required careful design - Southern Exposure Solar managed to get over 60 panels on a single story building.
The attic space in the building was already crammed with heat/AC ducts so there wasn't much space to work or add equipment.
Dominion Power was in the middle of a major grid upgrade - solar panel installations were not a priority for them. We were especially difficult because of the aggregated meters (Both meters are summed into a single account so it acts like it is a single building. This requires a special meter, but the excess produced by the west building is credited to the east building at RETAIL rates which is a really big deal!).
Installation:
Southern Exposure Solar worked with Chesterfield County and Dominion to meet all my requirements. Grayson kept me updated on problems and installation options. They beat the schedule that we had agreed to. They stayed on budget - there were no last minute unexpected costs. When the system was online, they showed me how to use an app on my phone to see the daily production - how much electricity is being imported and exported. The crew was great and made sure that there was no negative impact to business activities.
Results:
We have been producing solar power electricity for 8 months now. I looked at the year to date stats and the new system has generated 24 Megawatt hours of energy. (SES predicted 30 Megawatts per year and we are slightly ahead of schedule.). In mid-December it is still generating about 80 Kilowatt hours on a sunny day (about ⅔ of the amount it generated in the summer which surprised me because the days are so much shorter).

Just had a solar system installed by Southern Exposure Solar. This is an outstanding company! Everything went smooth from initial sales contact though connecting the system to the grid. All staff are extremely knowledgeable, professional, and honest. They really kept me informed every step of the way. Highly recommended!

Rooftop solar just makes sense. It doesn’t require the grid infrastructure upgrades that solar farms need and it’s mostly consumed at the point it’s generated, reducing transmission loss. I started researching on EnergySage (a great resource), put out a request for bids and reviewed 5. I picked SouthernExposure because I was impressed with Jason’s knowledge and willingness to inspect our attic. After I signed and applied for a permit to our HOA, SES really shined. Our HOA initially rejected the permit because some of the panels were visible from the street. They demanded an analysis from a certified engineer not affiliated with SES as to how much output would be reduced if the street-visible panels were eliminated. VA state law requires an HOA to approve plans unless requested modifications would reduce output by less than a certain percent. Jason obtained that independent analysis and the HOA approved the original design. BTW, a neighbor of mine was going thru the same process with a vendor who will remain unnamed, and they just eliminated the street-visible panels and resubmitted the permit application.
Bottom line - SES is a great company to work with.

These guys are great to work with! Responsive and friendly with great communication. I'd highly recommend them to anyone looking for a quality solar system.

High Quality service from Southern Exposure
We dealt with several companies before selecting Southern Exposure. We were limited by our HOA to installing solar panels on our back roof (western facing with numerous trees). Several companies told us they could deliver 100% of our energy needs. A little research told us this was an obvious lie, as we wouldn't get enough sunlight most of the year. However, we were pleased to deal with Grayson Goodstein of Southern Exposure. He assessed our situation and said we would likely get 66 to 70 percent of energy costs covered. With current prices it would take us maybe 16 to 17 years to recover our costs. Grayson said his recommendation was NOT to get a system, if were thinking of it purely financially. We thanked him for his honesty, but decided to get the panels anyway. We expect energy prices to rise and hope to be in the home for 20 years or more. Installation went very smoothly. Our own electrician came by and was impressed by Southern's work. He said most installs he'd seen from other companies were shoddy and unprofessional. In the six months since installation we have had zero problems with any of the equipment, which our research showed was made of high quality components. Everything functions as it should. Grayson also helped us with all the necessary paperwork to get up and running. To sum up: an excellent experience. Southern Exposure delivers what they promise.

From beginning to end, our experiences with Southern Exposure Solar were wonderful. On the first call Grayson explained the proposal, options, and timeline. On the site visit he confirmed measurements, even crawling through our very hot attic to verify the soundness of our roof structure. The installation crew was a delight – always friendly, on-time, kept us informed about progress; now we have a lovely productive solar array. The Southern Exposure Solar team met every commitment, answered every question, and took care of the entire process. Now we REALLY enjoy watching daily production numbers.

We had Southern Exposure install panels a little over a year ago in May 2022 and so far everything has lived up to our expectations. The system has worked well and there have been no surprises or unexpected issues. The one time there was an adjustment needed, the response was quick and effective. Grayson and the team were very helpful in the process, and gave honest and insightful information about making decisions. They were willing to spend as much time as was needed with the sales process, and did not try and pressure us into anything. They also gave accurate recommendations for our benefit even when these were not going to earn the company the highest profit, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Southern Exposure.

TRUE 5 STAR COMPANY!!
It has been a year since we went solar, and I am truly grateful to Southern Exposure Solar (SES) and their team for their great work! I have saved my review until now to ensure I was able to fairly rate SES and their installed solar system. I received multiple quotes from Energy Sage as well as companies that visited my home. SES was the most reasonably priced and the least pushy sales pitch I received. Grayson took his time explaining all aspects of the installation as well as what to expect before, during, and after installation during his visit. He designed an array that is aesthetically pleasing and still has room for growth. The panels and inverters used are top quality. So far, no issues to report on any of them after almost a full year. SES had my system start producing solar energy within 75 days of signing the contract. These installations go through several permits before and after the installation with the County and Power Company. They were on top of everything, explaining the process as it was moving, making all proper follow-ups, and ensuring it was not a pain for me. Their installers were TOP NOTCH!!! They planned for the worst (4 days installation) but performed at their best and the installation was done in two (2) days. The installation was very clean inside the house as well as outside the house. If it’s not because of the solar panels and the two extra boxes next to the meter outside, you can’t tell there is a solar installation at my house. Every conduit is well hidden, not like some I have seen in other houses that go across the middle of the house from top to bottom. When the system started, we had some issues with the readings in the Enphase app during the first few days (not SES fault), but Grayson, Britney, and Fred were on it. The system was producing, just not reading correctly. In less than a week after the installation and after constant monitoring by SES, Fred was able to figure out what was wrong in the app and corrected the issue. For those that are looking to see the results, SES installed an 8.03KW system with a first-year estimated production of 9.727KWh (all based on the estimated sun my house would receive) with a minimum of 9.435KWh. With still a little over a week until the full year the system has already produced 9.8KWh!!! If thinking about going solar, SES should at least be considered. Having no subcontractors was a plus as it gave me piece of mind that I would only have to deal with only one company if anything went wrong. Of course, the SES family made sure NOTHING went wrong!! Thank you, Grayson and team, for the awesome job you did!!

Grayson and Team did excellent job with Solar installation, and they have provided precise estimations for the number of panels needed to meet the consumption. I have had the solar system since 2 and half years now. I had no issues with Solar panels and they have been producing energy to meet the demand.

I am happy with my solar panels and my experience with Southern Exposure Solar. I got multiple quotes and their offer was one of the best. Ultimately what made me go with them was the customer experience and that Grayson was the least pushy and salesy of the sales people I dealt with. They are very responsive and I felt like the they were transparent and honest.
To top it off, Grayson gave me a recommendation for a roofer I ended up going with (again after multiple quotes).

Southern Exposure was extremely professional and did an excellent job installing everything. They helped walk me through the financing and the tax credits when it came time. Everything was turn key and done without any hassle or inconvenience. I highly recommend these guys if you're going solar.

First, I did not end up buying a solar system. This was a well thought out personal decision based on our particular circumstances. Grayson was very helpful and through with the information process. While others were anxious to sign us up, Grayson helped us to make an informed decision.
Installing solar is a major decision and not inexpensive. Use Southern Exposure and Grayson and his staff will treat you right.

We chose Southern Exposure Solar based on their reviews and after talking with a local homeowner that used them for his installation. Their expertise in understanding our needs and design of our house was impressive! They did a great job with the installation and the system has been fantastic! We have an electric car and the system has been able to supply all of that power as well as our whole house. 10 months in and we are very happy! We definitely chose the right company.

We had a great experience working with Grayson at Southern Exposure. He came out and did a personal site inspection and review, walked us through the design process and considerations.
We decided to go with a larger-brand competitor, but ended up being disappointed with the lack of attention during their process.
When we contacted Grayson again, he was supportive, helpful at assessing new regulations going into effect, and offering to honor his original system quote.
The Southern Exposure build team was fantastic, efficient, and friendly.
Cannot recommend this group enough.

Very happy with my solar installation through Southern Exposure Solar. The team was very easy to work with, efficient and handled all aspects of permitting.

As so many others have attested, Southern Exposure Solar are an excellent choice if you are interested in installing solar panels. We did extensive research before choosing them and were impressed with Grayson's no-pressure approach and the clarity with which our options were explained. We have had our solar system for four months and it is working just as promised - our last electricity bill was $18. We placed an emphasis on the panels and conduits not damaging the curb appeal of our house. When one of the conduits was in an unattractive position on the roof, Southern Exposure worked with us to get it changed - and shared the additional cost - a sign of a great company operating with integrity.

Southern Exposure Solar installed panels on our home and they made the process painless from start to finish. Grayson, explained the system and the process thoroughly. All of the staff are great to work with, prompt to reply and perform quality work. I highly recommend working with them if you are in the market for Solar for your home.

I had a 12.9 KW system installed in August 2021 at my home in Virginia Beach. I have NO regrets at all! Grayson, Britney and the whole crew were nothing short of the best of the best. You will read and hear about all these horror stories from Wavy 10 on your Side and other outlets about these solar contractors ripping people off. You will definitely NOT get that with Southern Exposure Solar. Grayson will tell you everything upfront with no sugar coat and will price the entire system fairly with the end product as solid as it can be. I even got one of my neighbors to have his solar installed with Southern Exposure Solar and he is just as happy as I am.

Southern Exposure completed the installation of 25 panels on our house last December. Our complete experience with Grayson Goodstein and the company was excellent. We defiantly recommend considering them for solar installation.

After an extensive review of solar energy system providers, we selected Southern Exposure to install our system. Grayson meticulously walked us through the technical details and options for financing that best suited our needs. Southern Exposure being backed by Certainteed as a certified vendor and installer was an important factor in our selection process, but equally important was the advice and attention to detail in Southern Exposure’s installation. They treated our home as if it was their own with an extremely clean installation. The results? Our March electric bill was $7.98! We couldn’t be happier.

Professional, courteous and low pressure sales approach would be my first impressions of SES. Out of the three estimates I got for panels, they were by far the easy choice. Throughout the process and even after installation, Grayson and his team would respond to any questions we had in a timely manner. It's been 7 months now and we couldn't be happier. Thank you SES!

After extensive research and reviewing 6 bids, Southern Exposure won my business with their straightforward approach, no-BS pricing, and knowledgeable pitch. Installation was top drawer as was their clean up when done. My electric bill last month was $7.71 (that’s 93 cents over the Dominion fee to be connected to the grid!). Great experience front to back with Southern Exposure. And I’m happy to do business with a deserving veteran-owned company.

I could not be happier with my solar panel installation from Southern Solar. From start to finish, they made the process easy and enjoyable. They helped me secure financing. They are professional and a pleasure to do business with. If you are looking for a one stop turn key installation, look no further than Southern Exposure!

I had five different quotes for our roof, the lowest and highest priced systems were the exact same setup. This didn't sit well with me and the whole thing started to seem like a scam. Then I met with Grayson, he was the most trustworthy and least pushy rep I met with. He actually downsized our system after seeing it in person and worrying that we wouldn't get a good return on our investment. The other guys were trying to put on as many panels as they could even on parts of the roof that wouldn't actually collect much sun. Southern Exposures quote ended up being the best priced quote after fitting the panels to the roof in person. The install was fairly quick, I think four days in total (because of rain they were delayed a day). The system has only been active for two months and the first full month of use dropped my bill to $30.This month is going better, currently producing a surplus with the smaller system in spring. I am interested to see how it will do this summer with the days getting longer.

We had our solar installed in January and became active in Feb. Our first power bill which only had 3 weeks of solar and one week of not having it on was $15.00. Our first bill that was 100% solar was $7.28 which included the minimum fees. Greyson was extremely easy to work with. He kept in touch throughout the entire process and returned all my calls without delay. Every stage of the process was completed on time with no delay. We did not get battery backup and it looks like it wouldn't be necessary because of net metering (unless power is lost). Using computer and knowing our kilowatt usage from previous electric bills, enough panels (19) were installed to cover all electric needs. The thing that really sold us on Southern Exposure was the guarantee. Everything is guaranted by CertainTeed located in Pennsylvania. Even if Southern Exposure goes out of business the guarantee would still be honored. We like the idea of this guarantee and the fact that Southern Exposure is a small locally owned company by two guys who really were willing to honestly help throughout the entire installation. I highly recommend this company.
.

Great group to work with, professional and responsive. Came in at a very good price and conditions. Service continues after install. I would highly recommend if you are looking for a personal solar install.

I went solar in Mar 2021 and I am so happy with Southern Exposure Solar, they did an amazing job. Grayson and his team are very professional and they explain all details thoroughly right from initial estimate thru installation and maintenance. My bills are now around 5-7$ per month and few months it’s almost $0. I would definitely recommend Southern Exposure Solar to my friends.

We had 29 solar panels installed by Southern Exposure Solar in the spring of 2022 and we had a great experience! The product is beautiful, the team is knowledgeable and responsive and the pricing was very competitive! We would highly recommend using SES for your next project!

We interviewed four different companies before we chose Southern Exposure Solar and we are glad we did. They are very personable, technically proficient, and very cooperative. They worked with us on installation timelines. Their installers, (on Southern Exposure payroll), were very professional and kept us informed of what was going to happen and when. Grayson and Fred followed up with emails, texts and phone calls. We would recommend Southern Exposure Solar to anyone that is considering Solar.

Grayson, Fred, Britney and the whole crew were nothing short of spectacular from beginning to end. I knew very little about the process, and the team was there to answer all of my questions without delay. The cost was reasonable, the installation was quick, the team was incredibly professional, the panels look terrific, and I’ve had no problems in the following months. I can’t wait to come back for round two in a few years - can’t recommend enough!

I can not thank Grayson and Fred enough for their help when the solar company who installed my system left me high and dry. They were able to diagnose and fix my problem quickly. It's not what they usually do, but I had been without power for 5 days and they very kindly came to my rescue! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND them.

I had very please experience with SES folks and especially Grayson was very helpful to explain entire process. I would definitely recommend for SES for your home Solar

My experience with Southern Exposure has been nothing but clean, honest, and efficient. Grayson adds a real nice personal touch, cutting out any nonsense sales tactics that you see with other companies, while still communicating with you in a professional, timely manner. The panels used are very sleek and blend well with the outstanding craftsmanship shown by the team. Southern Exposure gave a timeline and stuck with it the entire process, keeping me informed along the way with updates regarding forecasted energy requirements. I highly recommend giving Southern Exposure a shot at giving you and your family what you need.

We chose to explore solar options with Southern Exposure Solar based on their reviews. They responded quickly to our outreach, spent the time with us that we needed, and did NOT pressure us to buy. Our interactions with them sold us on having them install our solar. We are very pleased with the results and our power bills dropped by 65%. A great investment and no regrets!

Top notch company from start to finish. They started by explaining the process in great detail answered all questions, and the install was awesome. Anyone that needs a solar company these are your guys.

Southern Exposure Solar was one of a handful of solar installation companies that I interviewed. My decision to go with them came down to a neighbor vouching for the way SES handled his installation and the personal rapport that they build with each customer. With such a huge investment, I needed to know I could trust what information I was given. SES gave me the facts and essentially held my hand throughout the entire process. I would and have recommended SES to anyone.

Grayson, Fred, Britney and the installation team at Southern Exposure delivered on every aspect of our new system, exactly as promised. We've been up and running for 2 months now and the 19-panel array is producing well, the tracking software is amazing, and every aspect of design, installation and connection to Dominion Power was accomplished just as they said it would. We initially met with 3-4 companies, but we selected an excellent partner for this project, and can strongly and absolutely give Southern Exposure our highest recommendation.

Really loved working with Southern Exposure Solar. They were easy to work with, quick to install and we are saving money - we should save back our investment easily in 10 years maybe sooner with inflation.
We actually spoke with about 10 different solar power installers before making a decision. It was not one made lightly. Grayson (CEO) met with us and answered all of our questions, even after our original meeting. The CertainTeed Master Installer and Protection is one of, if not the best, protection/warranty out there. This was a big influence in our decision.
The team who came out to install the panels were efficient and professional. Once it was all hooked up, well, our bill has been just the hook up to Dominion, so about $5 a month and we've been able to bank kilowatts. Our house is about 2000 sq ft but also has a finished basement, so it's a little larger. These months are typically our heavier energy usage time too! I've calculated that we'll have saved back on this investment in about 10 years and they're guaranteed for 25 - so we are extremely happy with this decision all around!!
I've been recommending them to anyone and everyone who expresses an interest in looking into solar!
Thank you Southern Exposure!

We were not at all in the market to go solar but we were solicited by a big box company, which got me looking into solar more and more. I did not take long to figure out that the big box companies would say and do anything to get your business and would quote you a system without even a site visit. After researching, I felt that I would rather go with a local company and I am sure glad I did. Greyson form Southern Exposure Solar was awesome, he came to my home and was able to show us everything that they wanted to do and explained everything so we could make a sound decision. It is refreshing to know that I can call Greyson and he will pick up the phone, talk to me, and answer any questions I have.

Today I had the pleasure of speaking with Grayson Goodstein, C.E.O. of Southern Exposure Solar. Let me start off by saying that he is a man of honesty and integrity. I was considering having a solar system put on the roof of my home and had been reviewing a few quotes and have spoken with sales people from other companies. After several of my product and warranty questions were answered thoroughly, I asked Grayson to show me what the system would look like on my home. When we got into the nitty gritty it became apparent that solar would not be a great option for my home, in part because of the age of the roof and some shading issues. Of course a system could be put up with less efficiency, but Grayson would not recommend it. Another company had already told me that the roof would not be a problem, never mentioned shade and was more than willing to take my money.
Thank you Grayson for all of the time that you spent on the quote, design and presentation. You did not get a sale, but your honesty saved me from making a huge financial mistake. I would definitely recommend that anyone considering solar energy contact Southern Exposure Solar.

Grayson was one of the few really informative experts in the field who was willing to go the extra mile in answering all of my many questions promptly and with honesty and professionalism over the last year. I would not hesitate to recommend him for anyone considering a new solar system system.

We had a wonderful experience with the people from Southern Exposure from our initial meeting to final completion. A significant factor in choosing Southern Exposure was that they had engineers involved in looking at our roof to determine if it was capable of handling the load of the solar panels, something not offered from the other companies we contacted. Southern Exposure made sure our roof could handle the load, and then proceeded to install the panels in an efficient and completely professional manner - on time, when scheduled, and with quality work and products. Grayson and Fred, as well as the installers, were all very pleasant to work with, and were very responsive to our questions. We would not hesitate to recommend these people and this company to anyone wishing to change to solar power. It was positive from beginning to end.

After making an inquiry on adding solar to my home, I researched the options. The first company (company "A") visited my home and provided a great presentation. Further research on solar and what size i needed based on usage and how much i spent on energy, led me find that company "A" was selling me a system that was undersized system. I researched for more solar companies and found company "B" and Southern Exposure Solar. There were several things i found out i needed to consider, such as size, cost, warranty, and "who" the warranty is with. I had (have) a lifetime warranty on my kitchen cabinets, except the company no longer exist - so no warranty. I sent a few emails to several companies inquiring about solar, company “B” responded but never once attempted to make personal contact; either requesting to call or visit the home. Southern Exposure Solar, on the other hand, emailed and called, we worked around each other’s schedules to conduct a visit at the home. I dealt with Grayson and several others at Southern Exposure Solar from the beginning of the process and he still contacts me to see how I feel about the system. Grayson took the time to come out, look at the house and the layout, took measurements, and asked questions before providing an actual quote. I highly recommend if you are looking for information about solar or are ready to add solar to your home, contact Southern Exposure Solar, you won’t be sorry. With a warranty backed by the manufacturer (CertainTeed), you have a piece of mind knowing your investment is protected. While it has only been a few months of operation, I am extremely satisfied with the product.

It's been almost a year since Southern Exposure installed our system and are so happy we found this great group of people to work with. Our experience shopping with other providers had not been very good. Grayson turned our entire solar experience upside down. He was patient while we took our time thinking about it, but was responsive with thoughtful answers when we had questions.
Once we completed a few electronic signatures, Southern Exposure moved ahead quickly and seamlessly for us. They provided an estimated install window, and a few days before set the exact date and time they would be on site to start. Indeed, they rolled up exactly when expected and went right to work.
The install team just can't be praised enough. There was never any trash or debris in our yard or on the roof. While inside our home they wore proper facial coverings. They gave us options on how and where to run needed conduit piping and it looks great, if you know where to look. Everything is perfectly lined up and all the wiring around the panels is neat and tidy. They really made the whole process look effortless which is a testament to their experience.
The worst part of the process was waiting 9 days for Dominion Energy to swap the meter so we could energize the system. Like any good public utility, Dominion runs on their own schedule and doesn't tell you what it is. Within a few minutes of receiving the authorization to energize, Southern Exposure turned our system on and we've been pleased every day since. The best part is we'll end up owing Dominion only about $400 for the entire year.

Southern exposure solar was amazing. They have competitive prices, good products, an excellent warranty, but what really sets them apart is their customer service. We had a little extra legwork with our project, and Grayson and his team went above and beyond. They very patiently answered all my questions before, during, and after our project. The electrician installers were very pleasant and professional while on our property. We are thrilled with our system, and I was completely comfortable with every step of the process, thanks to southern exposure solar.

From my very first call Grayson with Southern Exposure had me excited about the potential of solar. 6 months later the system has met or exceeded his projections. I am a small business owner that does renovations and it was a relief that Southern Exposure’s construction team shows up on time, they are professional, they are skilled and they set realistic expectations on delivery dates and hit them. A home run from start to finish.

We shopped 5 solar companies and after meeting with Grayson of S.E.S. knew that his team was the right one for our solar project , he walked me through a detailed production analysis, fielded my many questions, shared about their highly experienced installation team, as well as their exceptional warranty. The Solstice Gold warranty was different than any other company as it covers the whole project down to the roof penetrations, lasts a full 25 years, and is completely backed by the panel maker CertainTeed who also manufactured my roof.
It's great to see a local company providing such a great service at a fair cost with their fixed pricing model. I never felt sold and rather know that I received a first class solar partner that will be there if I ever need them in the future as they treated me like more than just another sale. Highly recommend, especially if you want peace of mind in your equipment, installers, and solar partner.

We are extremely delighted with the process and results of Southern Exposure Solar. The team was competitive in pricing and dedicated to meeting our expectations on design and aesthetics. They provided excellent communication, responded to, and addressed all our questions. Best of all, there was no high pressure to commit to signing up. I do not hesitate in recommending them for your solar project.

Southern Exposure Solar (SES) epitomizes the Customer Service experience. It’s a sad reality when you realize how euphoric receiving great Customer Service is because of how infrequent that experience occurs.
You can tell that SES is led by a group of consummate professionals who are concentrated on perfecting their craft in an select market. As people who interpret processes through a “project management” spectrum, my wife and I truly appreciated how they took us behind the curtain and educated us on some of the nuances associated with the comprehensive logistics effort, which enabled us to understand the Return on Investment.
Additionally, SES allowed us to take our time in making a decision rather than the typical pressure-driven sales tactic (which drove us away from some of the aggressive, questionable competitors); they even encouraged us to research the competition and notify them of any questions or concerns that we may have.
The cherries on top (yes, there’s more than one) were the character, transparency, attention to detail, and the fact that the entire project is under one roof, meaning that the industry leading all-inclusive warranty is backed by the product manufacturer, so there is no middle-man obstruction if a problem does arise.
With SES, you get peace of mind; from my perspective, they are highly recommended with 6 out of 5 stars….yup, you read that correctly!

I have talked to at least 10 solar companies trying to do my due diligence to make sure I end up with the right company for an investment like this big Many try to use sales incentives and oversell you with panels. They all sound great and appealing until I found Southern Exposure Solar.
These guys are honest, ethical and super professional. They take pride with the quality of their work and are very meticulous with their planning and construction to make sure everything is perfect and your home is in good hands. They have 25 years warranty through CERTAINTEED which was a confirmation to me on their quality craftsmanship.
Grayson is there to assist and answer all my questions and probably took more time than usual with me because of my myriad of questions - yet he remained patient and pleasant.
He did not oversell me with more panels and stuck with the analytics of their program to make sure I get the best bang for the buck.
Save yourself some time, Southern Exposure is the right people to set you up with solar panels. We are extremely happy with our unit. Thank you guys for being one of the few companies out there that are still trustworthy and customer service centric!

I have been curious about installing solar panels on my home since it was built 6 years ago, but it wasn’t until last year that I got motivated to educate myself on the process and make it happen. As I was doing my research I interviewed several companies and researched others on energysage.com. The larger companies I spoke with tried to sell hard on the Solar Federal Tax credit or ITC, asked me to ignore their higher price per watt estimates and often put an exaggerated emphasis on a brand of solar panel, instead of the overall design of the system. What I then found in Southern Exposure Solar was different, if not refreshing. First, it’s a small local company that offers you the opportunity to sit down directly with an owner and who begins the conversation with a desire to build their local reputation rather than making a fast commission. The process was a lot like working with our custom builder for our home, where they walk you through the options of a full system design, each component part, exterior design esthetics and comprehensive warranties, and invite your input to meet your design goals and budget. They use the aurora solar design software which provides them with a satellite image of your roof and the ability to calculate expected production based upon the sun’s patterns on your roof. These guys love “geeking-out” about all things Solar and they want to bring you into its culture without allowing you to feel overwhelmed. In my first few months of production, I’ve been blown away by the quality of the CertainTeed Solstice Solar System they installed. During the recent ice storms here in Central Virginia these panels took a pounding and emerged in perfect working order! They also look really good up on the roof, which had a lot to do with the black IronRidge rail system that Southern Exposure Solar uses and how the panels were placed on the roof. The installation team was professional, thorough and provided a platinum level service that I expected for my custom-built home in Hallsley. Not only do I continue to be satisfied with the amazing productivity of the system in the first quarter of this year, but looking back on the entire process I found that I came to respect and trust this small company. Whether you’re looking to install a big system to fully offset your monthly electrical bill or a smaller system to give back to our environment, Southern Exposure Solar is the right choice!

From start to finish, Southern Exposure Solar exceeded my expectations. First, they were the only solar company willing to show up on-site for a consultation and take actual physical measurements. Competitors only wanted to guess via inaccurate/outdated satellite data. Second, the biggest differentiator is the Certainteed backed 25-year warranty cover parts/labor, everything with the install. This is especially nice considering Certainteed also provided my roofing materials. This is only available through Southern Exposure Solar. When I had questions, ideas, concerns, etc., to ensure I was getting maximum value out of the project, they were always courteous and willing to ensure they did right by me first and foremost. For example, when I needed to move two plumbing vents, they had an up to code solution, which didn't sacrifice solar production, and ensure the end result looked amazing. Additionally, many companies give little leeway to customers for routing conduit from the roof. However, Southern Exposure Solar ensured my end result preserved the architectural beauty of my home, despite the challenge it presented them. Financing was smooth and easy, their customer care was top notch. Finally, they showed up, finished the job on time, and ensured 100% of my requirements were satisfied. I couldn't ask for anything more and wholeheartedly recommend them.

Of all the solar companies I reached out to, Southern Exposure Solar were the only company that actually requested and showed up to my House to explain and go over the system with me. Grayson Goodstein and Dylan Kowal were very professional and knowledgeable. The warranty on their system was the best I was able to find, 25 years on everything!!. Fred Walker and his team were outstanding, I am glad I went with their recommendations for the conduit run . They definitely did not choose the easy route for the conduit run, which looks better than any other solar insulation I have seen. Got my system installed in 2 days and inspected by the city on day 3. Will recommend Southern Exposure Solar to anyone looking at installing solar, ask about their warranty.

Highly Recommended Knowledgable and Local!
We had a wonderful experience from start to finish with Southern Exposure Solar. We received several quotes from other installers, but Southern Exposure Solar stood above the rest in their willingness to spend hours with me answering every question and teaching me about the entire picture. From the quality difference in panels to the nuances of warranty contracts and having the Certainteed Warranty to back us up over the coming decades. It felt like we were a team with a common goal.
As a Financial Advisor, I can say they were willing to go above and beyond, getting into the weeds with me on the ROI spreadsheets and different breakeven points I calculated depending on what assumptions and variables I wanted to add. Overall, my system should produce a guarantee’d simple ROI of around 7% with no market risk, that’s a Great Investment!

These guys really know what they are doing. They were on-time, courteous and professional during every phase of the process. Additionally, they kept me informed of everything that was happening along the way as well as what to expect next. The end result was just as promised and the finished product looks great and works perfectly.
I interviewed numerous solar companies and I am confident that I chose the right one.
Additionally, I am confident that should there ever be an issue, they will make it right. They are really good guys and the CertainTeed back-up gives me real peace of mind.

Recently, Southern Exposure Solar’s Dylan Kowal provided a consult for our home. He was thorough and with zero pressure. Dylan’s expertise in the multi-faceted aspects of solar—the technology, home assessment, current laws and regulations, financing etc—was impressive. He was entirely transparent about the costs and benefits, and addressed every question I had. Because we may be moving in the near future we decided not to invest in solar at this time. But if and when we do, I will definitely return to Southern Exposure and Dylan. Their costs are competitive and their warranty looks excellent. If you want a low pressure consult with well informed experts in solar, start here.

Subject matter expert Grayson Goodstein of Southern Exposure Solar embodies integrity and represents the definition of a professional in the solar industry. Attention to detail in project development and projections are evident two years later from my conception to go solar and Grayson's prompt delivery of our PV system.
If considering solar, you would be doing yourself an injustice by not contacting Grayson. If you appreciate open communication and delivery of a customized solar system contact Grayson Goodstein of Southern Exposure Solar.

Several factors influence roof repair cost, including the extent of the damage, roof accessibility, material type, labor costs, and whether it’s a general repair or an emergency fix. Minor repairs can start around $150–$400, while major repairs may exceed $1,500.
Roof leak repair cost generally ranges from $300 to $800, depending on the size and location of the leak, the materials required, and labor intensity. Complex leaks involving structural repairs or interior damage will cost more.

To hire a roofing contractor, start by researching local companies with good reviews and proper licensing. Request quotes from multiple contractors, verify their insurance and certifications, and ask for references. Always ensure you get a written contract that outlines the scope of work, timeline, and payment terms.
Check if a roofing company is legit by verifying their business license, insurance, and local certifications. Look for memberships in professional associations, read customer reviews, and ask for recent project references. A legitimate company will be transparent and provide all documentation upon request.
When choosing a roofing company, consider their experience, customer reviews, warranty offerings, and quality of materials. Make sure they provide clear communication, detailed estimates, and a solid portfolio of completed projects. Local expertise is also a major advantage for understanding regional roofing needs.
Warning signs that your roofing contractor might be ripping you off include vague contracts, pressure to pay large upfront deposits, lack of proper documentation, and unexplained price increases. Always ask for itemized estimates and written guarantees, and avoid contractors who avoid answering your questions directly.
