Incredibly thorough, every nook and cranny was inspected in the 1930s house we wanted to buy. He's no stranger to historical renovation and preservation, so he was the PERFECT choice for my home. He is so patient, he took the time to explain anything we had questions about and was such a refreshing, honest perspective on all things to do with the home. 10 out of 10 would recommend to anyone needing a real in-depth inspection.

From the moment I first called to right now Stephen has treated me with such compassion and kindness and patience.. I already know I'll be unable to put into words how incredible he is and how thankful I am for him. We received our ERMI (mold) test results back on a Friday right before noon. I called Stephen to hire him as an inspector to *find* the mold. He could hear the urgency and sadness in my voice and offered to come out the next morning on his day off to do the inspection. My husband and I walked around our house with him for 4 hours. He was extremely thorough and treated our house's inspection as if it was one he was living in himself. Our lives fell apart right then and there and he held our hands and helped us without hesitation with whatever we asked. Every text I sent him, every phone call I made. He responded without hesitation. This man never had to answer the phone again. He wasn't making a dime off of me. He truly cared about our family and making sure that we were safe. He's truly an incredible person, SO GOOD at his job and I don't know what we would have done without him.

I have seen Showalter Property Consultants in action a lot over the last few years and decided to hire them for my own home. Steve came out initially and set up radon/air quality equipment in my basement. I bought my house 1.5 years ago and never had it done. It was raining that day so we held off the mold samples until a couple days later because of the rain. When Jack came back to pick up the radon, he ran a mold sample from outside, my bedroom, and my basement. Boom! They found some small particles I had been worried about.
While the radon ended up being in a very low range in the area, the equipment pointed out everything it needed too. The mold picked up samples that now I know I have to take care of. Steve could have easily wasted my money and taken the mold samples on a wet day, but because of his knowledge knew it would be better on a dry day allowing me to know what type of mold and how much was taken on the sample. I cannot tell you enough how much help the radon/mold testing did for peace of mind and also catching a health hazard! I will recommend everyone I know for these services for the exceptional and above and beyond service they provided!

My wife and I are in the process of building a new house in Bel Air and reached out to Steve for a pre-drywall inspection. He was flexible and attentive to our schedule as we had a small window from the builders to get in to inspect. He was very knowledgeable and documented and explained in great detail every thing he found, major and minor. After my father was hospitalized and diagnosis was related to an exposure to a foreign substance — we wanted his home inspected. Steve and Jack were great. Steve is a very thorough, informative and diligent inspector. His inspection of one house I looked at saved me potentially thousands of dollars. He suggested that I follow him around to learn all about the property suggesting things that should be replaced or repaired immediately but also pointed out things that were not an immediate problem but that I might want to budget for replacement later. He also pointed out things in the house that were well constructed or positive features.
His report is fabulous and very comprehensive. Things are color coded making it simple to find repairs that are urgently needed and safety issues (red), down to yellow and then green.

Mr. Showalter is the Michael Jordan of home inspections. You'd have to search far and wide to find anyone with the type of absolute knowledge of his profession that only comes with 30+ years of hands on experience coupled with the professionalism and customer service you don't always see in his field. Steve was recommended to us by a colleague, who had used him when buying their townhome. As first time home buyers, Steve took the time to explain all the faults and benefits of the house. If we did not understand something he was saying, he took time to break it down for us; he was extremely patient. Steve was thorough, patient, extremely knowledgeable (on the area, concerns of the buildings of the townhouse community we were purchasing in, on what repairs the seller did on their own, on what would need to be done to the house, on coding and requirements of the State of Maryland, on what safety precautions needed to be a priority for our family’s needs) , punctual, respectful, and gave us great recommendations for pest inspectors and a chimney inspector. When I was feeling overwhelmed with the house and issues with our realtor, he did not pressure us to pay for the radon testing of the house – but said that if we changed our mind he could always come back out for the testing.

His report on the house came within 24 hours of the inspection (Inspection started on Friday around 2pm, and by Saturday evening we had already received the report). His report on the house was color coordinated, throughout (58 pages), easy to understand, and categorized by what needed immediate attention by the seller, what would need general updates, positive attributes, and what was an area of concern. The report contained photos specifically pointing out areas of concern for us.

Steve did not end up using the drone for the home we were purchasing, but it was a relief to know that if need be – he had the tools to give us the best review possible.

Buying a house is stressful – whether you are a first time home buyer, or a seasoned professional – but with Steve we knew that we were in great hands; he made the process smoother than I could have ever imagined.
