Rising Sun Construction

Chris Bailey and Rising Sun Construction had previously some work for family so we contacted them for a large project to design and construct our dream home. We decided to do this during the early period of the COVID pandemic so we expected there to be some challenges that would go above and beyond the usual difficulties of building a house.

The design process was time consuming with many iterations of the floor plan before we ultimately landed on the final plans. One comment I have about that process was after the initial mockup the estimated cost was well over our discussed budget and we had to do some large alterations after spending a lot of time on that first floorplan, which added to the overall timeline by weeks.

Once we were finished with (at least we thought) the architectural plans, construction began. The major hiccup during the foundation/framing part of the process was the fully below ground basement came in a foot shorter than specifications, and we felt that was a major change to the feel of that space and what we had planned for it. Ultimately it is still a great space for children to play, for television, and we added a workout room so in the end we feel good about what the basement became.

We were also working with a wonderful interior designer Chris Coggins and Linden Lane Interiors based in Culpeper, VA. Together we all made some major changes to the floorplan on the main and upstairs levels to open up space and take advantage of bonus area above the garage. Ultimately we were very happy with the layout of the house and were excited for the next steps of the process.

We were very also very pleased with the work the subcontractors Rising Sun selected to work on our house. The electrical team, the tile work (which was extensive), cabinetry and shelving, painters, landscapers, hardwood flooring, plumbing, concrete pouring, and the glass for bathrooms (although there were delays with this) were all great and very professional. Linden Lane helped us with selecting companies to supply beautiful countertops and a railing for the entryway stairwell. All pieces came together beautifully.

Chris Bailey and Rising Sun was great not only with managing the overall project and the construction work, but also suggesting little flourishes in the design – one example being a skylight and fireplace in the new bonus space which really gave opened that room visually and made it superb. He and his team did beautiful trim work throughout the house and made all the little details throughout the house look wonderful.

Our house was a large project and Rising Sun did an excellent job of bringing all the pieces together. Throughout the process we got to know Chris and team very well and got comfortable with him. We were very excited to move in in late 2022 we’ve been very happy ever since. And since that point Chris and Rising Sun has been very willing to come back out for any little outstanding items as well. Rising Sun built us a beautiful home and we are very happy with the results.

Chris Bailey and his team are true professionals. They use high quality materials and they get the job done in a timely and professional manner. Rising Sun remodeled a kitchen, powder room into a full-bath, and reconfigured the master bathroom and closet in 2018-2019 in my 1970s home in the Suncrest neighborhood of Morgantown. I wrapped in a portion of the cost into my mortgage and Chris was very patient in working with my bank and submitting the necessary paperwork. Once Rising Sun commits to a project, they keep on a tight schedule until it is completed. Chris inspects the work almost daily--on one occasion, I noticed there was a problem with the light placement in the kitchen ceiling. I texted Chris and he had already noticed it and had contacted the subcontractor to get it fixed. At my one year inspection there were very few issues (the thresholds had cracked, for example) and Rising Sun enthusiastically fixed these minor issues. I was extememly impressed with the subcontractors Rising Sun hires to do tile work, cabinetry, plumbing, painting, and dry wall. Chris is all about relationship-building with subcontractors and his clients.
If you are fortunate enough to work with Rising Sun, it might be helpful to understand his process--you need to pay for architectural drawings for Chris to be able to give you a cost estimate for the job.

Chris and his team at Rising Sun did an amazing job on our deck project. His crew always showed up on time and kept a very clean work area! We love our new deck and can’t thank Rising Sun enough!
