What people say about “Red Roof Inn Abingdon”?

Customer feedback is overwhelmingly negative regarding this hotel. Numerous reviews highlight severe cleanliness issues, including dirty rooms, foul odors, and maintenance problems, leading to a highly unsatisfactory stay for many guests. Communication with management appears to be problematic, with several guests reporting unprofessional interactions when addressing their concerns. Delivery of service also seems to fall short, as guests have faced long check-in times and inadequate responses to issues reported during their stay. While a few positive reviews commend the service and cleanliness, they are eclipsed by the strong complaints from unsatisfied customers.

“2-star hotel” is laughable at BEST. I’ve stayed in 1-star interstate motels that were nicer than this place. If what you’re craving during your travels is an inhabitable room with cigarette holes burned into the bedding and furniture, a ceiling clinging onto life by hopes and dreams, and enough dead crickets and cockroaches to feed a zoo, you’ve found your place! Don’t worry though - you won’t be able to see any of it because the lights don’t work and your eyes will tear from the smell of cigarretes engrained in every square inch of your luxurious suite! And if that isn’t enough for you, you’ll also get to meet the dismissive management. Good thing they only price gouge during major events though, because you could pay $250 a NIGHT for this experience when the renovated 3-star hotel across the street charges less for the same dates with a NICER room! What a steal!!!

DO NOT BOOK! Booked through Orbitz, it shows a 7.2 rating on the site. The ONLY way this is possible is if the owner/manager and staff posted those reviews. It indicates this is handicap accessible, it is not. The room smelled of dirty mop water and there are grime stains in the toilet and bathtub. I requested a refund, and have been denied. Orbitz stated it was up to Red Roof, Red Roof stated it was up to Orbitz. So I feel a responsibility to warn anyone considering this particular hotel.

Well don't know for sure yet but just be careful because apparently you'll have to buy them brand new sheets if your pet gets a slight dirt paw print on it they apparently want us to believe that bleach will not clean the sheets and whenever I do tell you it's a slight Paw print it was small I guess there don't like washing sheets!! It was quite tho but only redroof EVER TO TRY TO KEEP DEPOSIT LET ALONG TAKE IT FOR A PAW PRINT OF DIRT ITS NOT STAINED IT WILL SIMPLY WASH OUT

No stars. Had to add a star to publish. I would not recommend. I stayed on the 24th of March 2025. The hand towel was full of dirt. When I turned on the shower, the lever fell off. The bathroom light was dirty and had bugs. Bathroom lighting was poor. The table was wobbling. The luggage rack was very dusty. The bedspread had ink marks. The parking lot needs repairs.

This place is disgusting! The rooms stink! There was a ton of hair in my bed, there were stains in the sheets, there were food crumbs, popcorn, and piece of bugs under the mattress! There was hair in the bath tub! Boogers on the shower curtain! The towel to put in the floor when getting out of the shower was filthy! The towels to dry off with were tiny and had holes in them! I was so utterly disgusted that I slept in the cab of the work truck! My work booked the same hotel a second night and I slept in the truck again!

Rooms are good but the owner is just a great person. This is my escape from life and he and I have become friends. Come see him. He will treat you with respect and dignity.

[Update: 01/07/25] I contacted corporate management to report these issues, and the owner has reached out separately in an irregular and unprofessional manner. Adding a video I took of the unit before I left for further evidence since my integrity is being challenged.

The room was pretty gross. The heater had a dirt film over it, one of the lights was busted inwards, and the blankets had little holes in it. I was in a smoking room, so people might have used the blanket to put out their cigarettes, but those blankets should not be used after something like that has happened. It was disgusting and uncomfortable. There was also a food item left by my bed by the cleaners which my dog immediately snatched up and ate. There should NOT be anything edible left in the rooms after cleaning.

Finally, my heater would only put out warm air for about a minute before switching back to cold air. I was able to get a portable heater from the office, but this meant I was awake for hours figuring it out after checking in really late.

I stay at Red Roof Inns while I travel with my dog. This is probably the 10th unique location I've stayed at, and it's definitely been the nastiest.

Stopped in for a rest after a 12 hour ride. The room was spotless and very accommodating with everything we needed. But the bed was broken down and we felt like the bed the next morning . Please change them after years of using. We did not sleep well at all.

The hotel is not as clean as in the photo, and also very old bathrooms. We found bedbugs in the bed, I have never seen a worse hotel than this one.
Dear friend, we lived in room 116, I attached a photo to confirm my words, now don't say that I wasn't here.

I haven't gone crazy, unlike you. The photos were taken on October 20, 2024, and in my last photo you can see that the walls of your hotel are gray, and 3 years ago they were beige, so you are a liar, and also stupid

We stayed here after a trip to the Emergency Room for a broken hand. Check-in took 30 minutes. The woman gave us room keys to Room 302. There is no Room 302. There is no third floor. She could not show us the room. She just kept saying it there, look harder. It was 11:00!

After I yelled at her, she gave us new keys to a room on the first floor. That room only had electricity at one outlet. The blanket had cigarette burns all over it.

Definitely not impressed.

Me and my mom love this hotel, the rooms are clean and neat and both times we stay here the service was friendly. I will definitely come back to stay longer and I would recommend the red roof in Abingdon to get a good night rest. It has been a great experience and time here.

I lack the words to describe my anger towards the guy running this place. Let me try: I'm thruhiking the AT right now and had to stay in Abington during my zero day. Arrived early and got dropped off by a friendly driver at the hotel. All I wanted was to get rid of my 30lb backpack for some hours and explore the nearby city. When I asked the manager if I could leave it somewhere (reception or whereever) his response was: "This is private property. If you want an early check-in I'll charge you 20$!" Well... That nice man made we walk the whole day with that thing on my back. Just a little bit of kindness was all I asked for. He refused that.

Update: after check-in we were even charged more than we were initially asked online. Avoid this place and it's manager at any means. Treats you bad and on top wants to squeeze every possible dime out of you...

I've been to a lot of hotels and motels in my time. This particular motel offers friendly service and a kind staff. This particular trip is THE very longest that I have ever stayed in a motel - a month and a half, if you can imagine. The coffee maker in the room, along with a mini-fridge, were the closest thing to home that I could ask for and the shower is extra-roomy with a U-rail for the shower-curtain. Since I smoke, the room was stocked with a large ash-tray. Since a young age, I have furnished myself with a king-size bed and it was a pleasantry to have them available. As close to home as I can get is the pleasant vibes that I got from the Red Roof Inn Abingdon. Centrally located and easy to get anywhere in the area. I rate this 5 down the line since the staff is willing to clean your room or any other thing in their power to assist you. Stay at the Red Roof inn in Abingdon and stay with family. Shout out to AJ and family!

Scamming people. The front desk guy with no authority and little man complex (micro man) named himself AJ and falsely overcharged the disgusting room and would not refund our money 5 minutes after seeing the nastiness and smelling the terrible odor Be careful when dealing with this place. They need to be professional and honest especially when dealing with people who pay money for sleep on travels

The location is probably the best thing about the hotel. The heater didn't work when I arrived. The guy at the front got it replaced, still didn't work. He kept telling me it's blowing heat when it wasn't. He also have me a space heater which was small and didn't help with the temperature either. It was like he was refusing to switch the room out. I asked him numerous times to switch the room. But he didn't. Also when I arrived there was a bunch of dead flies all over the floor and on the window seal.

Stayed here last night. The man who checked us in was incredibly helpful and friendly. The rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable. Caught a great night's sleep. There are a lot of shops and restaurants nearby. The only thing I'm going to ding them for is the terrible wifi speed. Other than that, we had a pleasant stay

Over all 3stars, I stayed 2nights charged over $200!!
So far for being down stairs I got charged an extra $32.30,just for getting downstairs. I used they're washer and dryer, washer was $1.25, did a good job,but the dryer was a $1, But the dryer didn't have sufficient time to dry Anything and the management wouldn't refund, that was wrong as well!!
And as for the "extra money" for the downstairs,he just keeps telling me to call back, I think he's wanting me to forget about all that..."Extra Money"!!!
But the rooms were excellent, even after he switched out the microwave....

When I walked in and asked if there was a vacancy, instead of looking on computer the clerk started texting wouldn't say if there was a vacant room. Told me to 'hang on" so I said it made me uncomfortable and I wasn't interested. But the best part was before I walked out the door I asked "did you have a room or not?" And she said no. Ok. Seriously? Why a text. . Obviously someone was going to vacate a room to make a few dollars. Just terrible, avoid avoid

The room was fine, the bed hard which I like, but pillows were sponge and not comfortable. We had to pay $20 extra to get a handicap accessible room on the first floor. It was a good location with restaurants and Walmart nearby. |We were riding the VA Creeper trail and it was only 20 minutes away. It was also 5 minutes to the Barter theatre!

They literally pressed charges saying I destroyed a TV which was noted that it did not work upon check in. Also paid for a night in cash and as soon as aj snatched the money from my hand, he called police and had me removed from the property. AJ has no respect for women or the well being of his guests go anywhere else but here!!

We rented a hotel through Priceline (Red Roof Inn 887 Empire Dr. SW, Abingdon, VA, US) on 9/8/2023. We arrived at the hotel and checked in with the manager. We were given room #130. On entering the room, we noticed that the bed had a stain on it. After further inspection, we found that there was blood and urine on the sheets of the bed.||||We returned to the rental office and spoke with the manager. The individual became violent and verbally abusive when we detailed the blood and urine on the sheets. The manager claimed we were lying and forced us to drive to the room to show him. ||||When we showed the manager the blood and urine, he told us, and I quote “We are not expected to wash these every day, you can pull the other sheets over it and sleep on it, you don’t need to sleep directly on the blood and urine.” ||||We were disgusted and outraged by this response. He refused to refund us and refused to rent us another room. Instead, he threw the sheets at us and told us to get out of his hotel.

I've stayed here 4 weeks bounced to 4 different rooms in the 4 weeks the usual housekeepers don't understand English enough to know your asking for towels I have to get my towels and wash cloths myself off the housekeeper cart, I put my trash can outside with a bag in to have my bag replaced but they do not replace your bag and expect you to do it yourself the rooms overall are falling apart I had went to the front desk to ask for a replacement coffee pot but ended up having to switch it myself, the bathroom towel rack came out of the wall when i went to grab a towel and the shower curtain fell after having a very small amount of pressure on it, this is so definitely not worth was my housing program is paying for this a week
*edit also while your staying here long term your room does not get serviced unless you request it at the front desk to have it done. WORST AND NASTIEST HOTEL I'VE EVER STAYED IN
Also there has been used diapers in a bag and 2 used condoms just 10 steps outside of my room for a week and still there as of the time of this review on 8/8/2023 at 12:45 am

Update to review......

You are a balled faced liar. The ONLY DAY I EVER PAID AFTER 9 am was the day I thought I was leaving. Again. YOUR EMPLOYEE GAVE MISINFORMATION AND I WAS UNDER THE ASSUMPTION I WAS GOOD TO GO for a 1 pm checkout UNTIL 11:01 THE DAY I LEFT.

YOU HAVE HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS AND YOU LIE ON TOP OF THAT... I have time stamps on EVERY RESERVATION I MADE THE WHOLE STAY. YOU LOST CONTROL OF YOUR HOTEL DUE TO OVER WORKING THAT LADY AND THATS WHY YOU FELL BEHIND. BOO HOO. YOUR HOTEL ISNT BAD. BUT YOU ARE ATROCIOUS.

If I could give the service a negative number, I surely would. The "Manager" and his extremely miserable looking wife have the absolute worst customer service skills. Their employee, whom they fired, had given me, the guest, the ok to pay a $25 fee and check out late at 1 pm because my car was in the shop and I am not from there. It wouldn't be done until 1 so I planned through their employee to check out late and avoid my child being in the heat of the day with all of our belongings. At 11:01 the "manager" whom I had never seen before and had stayed over a week waiting and paying comes to the door and says I have to leave. I tell him I paid for a late check out and was cleared to stay until 1. He all but laughs at me says that isn't an option. I tell him I had this scheduled with the front desk lady and that my money had already been in their system. He tells me he fires her, my money isn't there and if I don't leave he is calling the police. He threatens my fiancé and calls the cops. Instead of honoring what an employee of his, ex employee or not, had set up with a guest who paid for a service, he put a family who had never not paid early to be there the entire stay, who had paid for a service they were lied to about, out in the heat with all their belongings because they were in the process of moving cross country when the car broke down with a 3 year old and a dog. He is a truly horrible person and his wife is no better. I would advise that you DO NOT STAY HERE. it was affordable, it wasn't nasty but it wasn't nice. I only stayed there out of emergency. Bc I'm from Mississippi and was stranded there at this hotel until the car was done. I offered to pay another night to avoid my child in the heat and he wouldn't stop being disgusting long enough to care. Truly despicable human. If you can call him that.

I am a travel lab tech and I have been coming to the Red Roof inn for over a month. Consistently I have received the best customer service. The rooms were always clean, and the staff has always been the best at showing me good customer service. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a good inn.

Should receive 0 stars!!! Horrible! Horrible!Horrible! Do NOT stay here!!! Keep going or sleep in your car. Very Dirty. No phone cord. Broken tv. Open Beer outside our room. A group of people intimidating my children. I was REFUSED a refund even after my children refused to stay there because they were so upset. We had just booked within an hour with the lady at the desk, NOT online. Asked to talk to the general manager, I was given a fake card with no name and no number.

There were bugs crawling up wall behind the bed. We took pictures of it, not sure if it was bedbugs or something else. People sitting outside with doors open and chairs outside the rooms smoking. They 100 percent lived at the hotel and the lady at the desk put us in a room between them. Never go to this discusting hotel. We did not sleep there. Cancelled and went to a quality inn across the street. This was personally the worst hotel we have ever booked from Priceline.

Me and my fiancé Eugene Murphy stayed here as just a mini getaway. We absolutely loved the staff, the room, the microwave worked great, the refrigerator worked great, there was a coffee pot in our room. The bed was so comfortable I could have slept for days. We will definitely be booking here again for future monthly getaways. If I could rate higher than 5 stars I would.

He had a preexisting picture on his phone of damage from a room. A complete different room than I stayed in. He lies to keep ur deposit. The place is filled with roaches cus they don't know how to clean. Someone else's shower loofa and soap was still inside the tub. So don't think for a second that they cleaned anything..you'll have a better experience sleeping n a dumpster, and the dumpster won't charge you over 300 doller for two nights stay n a roach motel. He's a theif, if u go there just hand him ur wallet. It's hurt less when they screw u over.

Service questions

2. How long does roof replacement take?
+-

The timeline for a roof replacement typically ranges from one to three days, depending on the size and complexity of the roof, weather conditions, and material type. Larger or more intricate roofs may take a bit longer, but we always aim for efficient, timely completion.

3. How to hire a roofing contractor?
+-

To hire a roofing contractor, start by researching local companies with good reviews and proper licensing. Request quotes from multiple contractors, verify their insurance and certifications, and ask for references. Always ensure you get a written contract that outlines the scope of work, timeline, and payment terms.

4. How to check if a roofing company is legit?
+-

Check if a roofing company is legit by verifying their business license, insurance, and local certifications. Look for memberships in professional associations, read customer reviews, and ask for recent project references. A legitimate company will be transparent and provide all documentation upon request.

5. How to choose a roofing company?
+-

When choosing a roofing company, consider their experience, customer reviews, warranty offerings, and quality of materials. Make sure they provide clear communication, detailed estimates, and a solid portfolio of completed projects. Local expertise is also a major advantage for understanding regional roofing needs.

6. How do you know if your roofing contractor is ripping you off?
+-

Warning signs that your roofing contractor might be ripping you off include vague contracts, pressure to pay large upfront deposits, lack of proper documentation, and unexplained price increases. Always ask for itemized estimates and written guarantees, and avoid contractors who avoid answering your questions directly.
