I don't recommend this place. I stopped in to have some plywood cut to size and the cuts were awful. Not only did they cut the wrong measurement, they also shredded the face of the plywood. I essentially just wasted over $100. I'm trying to be fair with a 2 star rating because it's not right to bomb their rating with a 1 star rating based on one employee. I'm sure this place is fine for the most part, but I cancelled the rest of my order after seeing the first sheet and won't be going back based on my experience.

Went in this afternoon, Bob is a pleasure to work with. Bob had to leave and help elsewhere.
Another gentleman “came to help at desk” completely ignored me. Completely bad customer service. Rushed me to help his usual customers from what I could gather. As a contractor I need all different materials depending on job so I asked if he had this or that material everything was a NO, no willingness to get material. Will not return unfortunately after this negative experience.

Amazing customer service from Luis! Going over and above expectations. Came in 15min until closing with a big last minute order we needed before the next morning and they stayed a little after closing to accommodate our needs and helped load up the load. Granted it was also a Friday night! Thank you so much Luis, I will recommend your services to anyone who needs your business.

Sara is our kitchen design expert and we connected with her very early on in our project. The outcome was awesome to say the least! Although we had a few complications on this project, she was always very quick with an answer to keep the project moving forward. She went the extra mile, literally when she drove out to the supplier to pick up panels that had been delayed. Her support after the sale was invaluable! She's the multi tool you want in your back pocket! Her contacts, her knowledge, and her experience will get you from day one to job complete with the least resistance. You should want her on your project!

We stopped in to look for this and that - just starting to DIY a few projects. The guys here were super helpful and took the time to listen to our plans and answer all of our questions. We were really impressed with the fastener selection - easy to navigate and they had everything we needed. Plus a lot more that we ended up buying just because! We'll definitely be back.

My business will not rely on them as part of my supply chain. You can bring thousands of dollars of business to them and the moment you need a return, their ethics go to hell. The floor manager is the heart of the problem. The rest of the staff is not. With profit margins as tight as they are, you can't entrust your margins with a moody unethical floor manager to make the correct decision suitable for both parties. Plus I constantly find they have inventory one day, and not the next making the time you spend being loyal to the business extremely difficult. There are other building supply stores that are not Big Box stores. Those stores have earned my business. I will no longer enter this business again.

The following is a portion of an email that I sent to the president of Mount Vernon Building Center: First, every time I've been in the store the customer service has been exceptional! The guys have been available, friendly, and professional. They've even started to recognize me and call me by my name. Second, as a homeowner and not a contractor or carpenter, I have needed some advice and recommendations. The guys have been very knowledgeable and their advice has proved true and helpful. Third, having the material delivered has been great. The delivery guy is on time, happy, and helpful. Lastly, the materials I've ordered have been quality and in good shape. I could go on, but I think you get the picture... I'm a big fan of MV Building Center! Thank you for running a quality establishment. I'm grateful!

Our second time giving a try this store

First time our guys were most of the time ignored and treated differently.

Our second time we were skipped even when the other person who got there after us insisted in waiting to be attended. no one asked if we nedded anything.
Worst customer service we have had.
Business don't see color right.
We decided to leave the store, and not coming back ever.

Mt Vernon building center has been around for a long time and has always been a great place to go for commercial and residential construction needs. They supply a large list of tools and supplies along with lots of hard to find species of hardwoods for woodworkers. They have a large lumber selection as well.

Pricing questions
1. What is the average roof replacement cost for a residential home?
+-

Service questions
1. Should I stay home during roof replacement?

It's not necessary to stay home during roof replacement. Roofing work is noisy and can cause vibrations inside the house, which might be uncomfortable. Most homeowners choose to leave during major parts of the project, but our team ensures safety and keeps you updated, whether you're home or not.

2. How long does roof replacement take?
+-

The timeline for a roof replacement typically ranges from one to three days, depending on the size and complexity of the roof, weather conditions, and material type. Larger or more intricate roofs may take a bit longer, but we always aim for efficient, timely completion.

3. How to hire a roofing contractor?
+-

To hire a roofing contractor, start by researching local companies with good reviews and proper licensing. Request quotes from multiple contractors, verify their insurance and certifications, and ask for references. Always ensure you get a written contract that outlines the scope of work, timeline, and payment terms.

4. How to check if a roofing company is legit?
+-

Check if a roofing company is legit by verifying their business license, insurance, and local certifications. Look for memberships in professional associations, read customer reviews, and ask for recent project references. A legitimate company will be transparent and provide all documentation upon request.

5. How to choose a roofing company?
+-

When choosing a roofing company, consider their experience, customer reviews, warranty offerings, and quality of materials. Make sure they provide clear communication, detailed estimates, and a solid portfolio of completed projects. Local expertise is also a major advantage for understanding regional roofing needs.

6. How do you know if your roofing contractor is ripping you off?
+-

Warning signs that your roofing contractor might be ripping you off include vague contracts, pressure to pay large upfront deposits, lack of proper documentation, and unexplained price increases. Always ask for itemized estimates and written guarantees, and avoid contractors who avoid answering your questions directly.
