Mr. Handyman of Northern Virginia - Arlington to Haymarket

We have had Carlos out to the house for several work orders (including exhaust fan installation with new duct work, repairing drywall, realigning a door after house settling, building a custom column around an ugly basement post, and running a new electrical outlet among other jobs). He is on-time, works diligently, communicates well regarding process/ cost, leaves the work site at least as clean as before, and is always pleasant and respectful. He even takes time to walk through cost saving opportunities for jobs where that is possible. I trust him and request him by name each time.

Beware Price Gouging.! I requested an estimate for sanding and applying protective layer on patio wood inner-ceiling. They quoted me at $7,500. I went directly to the carpenter that Mr Handyman would hire. He charged me $1,200. Clarification: I did not hire a Mr. Handyman employee to do the job. I hired a carpenter I found else where. The point here is the ridiculous prices Mr. Handyman charges compared the actual cost of labor. Going by their response below, they clearly do not want to get that.

Chris was great and explained what he was doing at each visit. He arrived on time and cleaned up after himself. What he could not take he informed me would come back for it from the start.

First time using Mr. Handyman. Response was quick. Process was easy. Bobby gave me a fair estimate. He also did the work. He did a great job. I will definitely use Mr. Handyman for future projects and recommend your services to others.

The technician was; neat, professional, technically sound, courteous, prompt, and showed expert knowledge in service. Staff considered my availability in scheduling work. Ricky addressed all relevant concerns including requests to preserve all shrubbery. Ricky prodded continuous updates and expertly worked though unforseen popup issues, to complete on time. Sure to get it done.

Awesome work done by Chris !!!!! Took his time to find where the issue was coming from. We had leaking from top of windows had had a few other service contractors look at the area and was not able to find Chris step right in a found the issue and fix it all had to go under the siding and put something that the builder didn't do.
I would definitely recommend this company we hope you get Chris. And he cleans up the area very nicely.

My experience with Mr. Handyman was just outstanding from start to finish. Jose G. performed professional workmanship, patching three separate openings in two of our ceilings that had been made by electricians and plumbers. Jose's patching work is flawless. I hired Mr Handyman previously, so the outstanding work performed by Jose G. is just what I expected.

Jose G. from Mr. Handyman did a great job in repairing the window in our house. His work was clean and thorough. I will definitely call them again for future needs.

I spent $900 for Mr Handyman to repair some bricks that had fallen off the side of my front porch and to regrout in between some of the bricks. After they finished the job, I called them up to tell them how bad of a job they did with the grout work and the sent someone over to look at it . This person went to home depot and got some cleaner and tried to make it look presentable, but it didn’t help. This was a few months ago and now the grout or concrete or whatever they used is cracking and I have to get the whole porch repaired!

Chris provided an overview of what work was required to fix a complex door lock. We then discussed options for repair or replacement.
He was courteous, professional, and very helpful. I am totally satisfied with his work and recommend him unequivocally.

As a result of a plumbing issue in an upstairs bathroom, my dining room ceiling was damaged. Mr. Handyman sent Sammy to give me an estimate.
• First observation — Sammy is a sweet guy, as interested in talking about families as he is about assessing needs and developing strategies to repair a ceiling.
• Second observation — There was a very obvious hole in the ceiling, but Sammy saw other damaged spots that I had missed. He was interested in doing a complete job.
• Third observation — When Sammy returned to actually complete the job, he realized at the end of the day that the new drywall would not be sufficiently dry if he tried to sand it down and apply paint. He would need to return on another day — which we worked out by coordinating our schedules. He was interested in doing the job right — even if it meant some extra hours on his part.
I recommend Mr. Handyman without reservation — and would strongly advise that you specifically ask for Sammy.

One other piece of general advice: I already had a lot of the materials that were needed to complete this job (paint, rollers, drywall compound, tape, etc . . .), and only had to pick up a few items from Home Depot. So, by supplying all of the materials myself, I was able to save a few bucks. I realize this isn't something that can always be done (depending on the job), but it worked out for me on this occasion.

Handyman named John did a fantastic job. We had him do some sub floor repair, retiling, and dry wall repair. He even came back a 2nd day to paint the wall and ceiling, which we weren’t expecting to be done! He went above and beyond what we needed!

Jerry has been a great asset to our business helping us get projects done. Always a pleasure working with him, Tom and the Mr Handyman team.

Ricky S. was fantastic. He came on time and didn’t leave until the job was done. He did an excellent job installing grab bars in our bathroom. He was very polite and very professional. He invited us to inspect his work at each major step of the installation. Everything was done to our satisfaction. We will definitely call on Mr. Handyman in the future as the need arises and we will make sure that we ask for Ricky S.

Ricky of northern va handyman did a great job for me installing a bathroom light fixture. It was a bit complex but he found a way to do it saving me a good deal of money. Same with installing an outlet. Ricky was creative and professional and extremely polite and tidy. I would ask for him again any time.

Bobby B. did quick and solid work on our two doors that were sticking in the frames. Mr. Handyman has been a helpful service the two times I have used them. Would recommend to those that need odd jobs done quickly and have only a few available times a week they can be home.

I am a Service-Disabled Veteran who needed a minor repair to my kitchen cabinet shelf. I also required a minor repair to a broken piece on one of my indoor steps. I live in a new development, so not much work was needed. Everything is new! After reviewing the $486.88 estimate by Mr. Handyman in detail, I immediately canceled the appointment within the 3-day timeframe as stated in the written contract. The estimate was ridiculously high. I had to request the line-by-line estimate; Mr. Handyman DID NOT initially provide me with a detailed estimate in person or by email. I saw over-the-top charges for work that we never discussed. I got the job done myself for less than $10. A friendly employee (Rob) at my local Home Depot told me precisely what I needed, and it looks great now! I mistakenly wrote a check for a deposit (as requested during the consultation). I purchased all of the materials myself, as Mr. Handyman person suggested. The company — Mr. Handyman in Northern Va. (Arlington to Haymarket), immediately cashed my check the next day. I requested a repayment; however, it has been one week, and I still haven't received the money back in my account. Please, beware! I will never contact this company again for any work. My next step will be to contact the Better Business Bureau. This isn't how Mr. Handyman should conduct business with a potential customer. I won't make this mistake again!

The handyman who was assigned problem solved my furniture repair and did an excellent job. Other tasks required him to obtain materials from home improvement stores, thus saving me trips. He was on time, polite, and skilled for the tasks.

Great job! The handyman arrived on time, was professional, friendly, and knowledgeable. He got right to work and explained everything as worked. The service was a bit pricey but definitely worth it to have peace of mind knowing a professional did the job.

The night before my surgery, my kitchen sink backed up and after trying everything I know to do aside from taking the plumbing apart, which I physically could not do at the time, I had no luck getting it unclogged. While in surgery, my friend called Joe at Mr. Handyman and he had a technician out that same day within hours of me coming home from surgery to fix the sink. What a great level of service! I highly recommend Mr. Handyman for any home service needs. Thanks Joe and Team!

I am very please with service professional Bobby B. works. He arrived promptly to the site. He explained clearly about problem encountered with missing parts from existing gable vent frame, and improvised solution, to complete the job on time, without extra charge.

We requested a quote for a repair. They did have someone come out - however we had to pay for the individual to show up and provide a quote, while someone came out we never received the quote which is the whole point. We never received it - despite reaching out and requesting the quote several times. If you actually want to get a quote and get the work done then I’m not sure I’d recommend this company.

The Tech assigned Bobby B. was extremely helpful not only did he take the time to explain everything but what would be involved and how long. Great service!!

Chris was very detail oriented and meticulous in the work he did for me. He communicated what is going on and involved me in the decision making process. He made sure the shatter is secured ao that it does not fall on people or cars causing damages. He cares enough to go to the upstairs window to secure it as the wind was blowing hard at that time until he got additional help to secure the ladder for him. I am happy with his service.

Travis came to fix my parent's chimney that had some leakage. The job was much larger than originally expected but he was very reliable, professional, and detail-oriented. Everything was repaired within 3 days and my Mom was very impressed with the work!

I've had many houses and I usually get your part time "handy men" because they are cheaper and they usually do a decent job, but with these guys I experienced great work. They identified and understood the problem, the quality in which they fixed it with professionalism was drastic than the cheaper alternative. When you need legitimate work these the guys to call.

My sliding back door was not opening properly. Bobby B arrived on time and got right to work. Bobby showed me what was broken and told me exactly how he would fix it. Bobby fixed the door just as he said he would. Now the door slides open and closed like it was new again. Fixed it for a fair price and saved me thousands from buying an new door. Excellent job! Read the fine print there is a deposit requirement once you agree with the estimate. The technician, Kwaku S., did excellent work. The supervisory employee can use some remedial customer service training.

I worked with Morgan to add new lighting inside and outside, fix our screen door, remove a wall mounted control panel and patch the wall, and replace the banisters in our split foyer entrance way. All of the jobs were done perfectly, timely, and Morgan was very courteous and professional. Will definitely contact the service again in the future!

I appreciate the service I received from Kwaku. He was punctual and professional. He explained what needed to be done, The closet was left clean after replacing the shelf. I would request him again in the future.

A customer service rep called my company on the behalf of their customer because they were trying to find who worked on one of their appliances last. The customer was not ours and the customer service rep was nice enough, but next time type in the URL, don't click on our pay per click ad and cost us $25.17.

Morgan was our technician and I would recommend him to anyone looking for help with home projects. He was on time, friendly, communicative, and worked extremely hard.

We hired Mr. Handyman to install a microwave and cabinet for us, which they did very well.

However, everything outside of the quality of the final product was quite stressful to navigate. We had asked multiple times if they can work within our tighter timeline and they said yes and that we could expect a final estimate in 2 days. However, we ended up having to chase them, calling multiple times and being told they would call us back and receiving no callback. After about 10 days, we received the quote and accepted, hoping they could start quickly since we were now behind our originally discussed timeline. We paid the deposit and didn’t hear anything for another several days. When we followed up again, they told us they have the cabinet and just need to schedule the technician to come install it, only to then find out the cabinet was on back order and would be delayed again. I understand that’s out of their control, but I really wish they had just told us what’s going on and when we can expect a technician, rather than just stalling and being non-communicative.

In the end the actual installation was high quality, but the back and forth was exhausting. If you’re in a rush or dislike that kind of back and forth, I would maybe go with someone else.

This has to be the worst company on the face of this earth. They are unprofessional and unethical on their business practices. They quote you one price and come back and charge you double or even triple. I would not recommend this company to anyone. To top things off they have incompetent people that don’t know what they’re doing. How can anyone hire a company where they’re charging folks unfair prices and they don’t know their job. MOVE ON AND SAVE YOUR TIME AND MONEY!!
