Montpelier Grading completed drainage installation around a portion of our 1960 Richmond West End Tri-level and did a great job. John was good to work with. He was responsive to emails and spent a good amount of time discussing options and what might be the best approach for our situation. The crew did a very careful job of hand digging near our foundation in order to avoid hitting water or gas lines and used machinery elsewhere. Along with the drainage work, Montpelier Grading also removed an old walkway and regraded our front yard. I am very happy with the work they did and would definitely work with them again. It looks great, and it is ready for new landscaping!

John and his team did an excellent job, beyond what was required. I expect to work with them again soon, and I highly recommend them to anyone. They turned over an acre of trees, bushes and stubborn vines into mulch in about 7 hours. Simply beautiful!

-The back yard of my rental property in the West End of Richmond was the lowest point in the neighborhood, so all the rainwater from both side neighbors, as well as the neighbor in the back, would collect in my yard and keep it a muddy mess. The tenants would complain about not being able to go in the yard, or their dogs would come back into the house and make a muddy mess. In the spring, I got an estimate from a company in Rockville to address the problem, with grading, topsoil and new drains. His estimate was $10,000. That's almost a whole year's rental income. So I got another estimate from Montpelier Grading. John, the owner, came out and did a thorough evaluation of the drainage problem. He seemed very knowledgeable, and his estimate was only about $2.200 for more extensive work than the first company suggested.
- John personally came out with his crew, and they re-graded the entire back yard, roto-tilled the soil, put in some drains to catch and re-direct incoming water away from the yard and house, put in another downspout, added downspout extensions and underground piping to divert more water, put in a French drain, added gravel under the gutters, brought in lots of fresh topsoil, then reseeded the yard and protected it with hay. Amazing transformation.
-He also did extra work that was not required-- He weeded and roto-tilled the 2 raised garden plots that the tenant had, ( making it ready for spring planting ), and he also had his crew cut the grass in their front yard, since they went out of town for about a week, and it was tall.
-I was blown away by the scope and quality of his work, as well as the attention to detail and the extra things he did, which he noticed, and he did not charge extra for the extra things. He was very good about returning calls and keeping me updated on the progress of the work. It took his crew about 2 - 3 days to complete the job, and the cost of $2,200 was worth every penny. The yard is great now, with no muddy yard or drainage issues.
- I was 100% completely satisfied with the work in general, and with John in particular. You will not be disappointed with the quality of this company''s work. Excellent!

Request quotes from multiple contractors, verify their insurance and certifications, and ask for references. Always ensure you get a written contract that outlines the scope of work, timeline, and payment terms.

4. How to check if a roofing company is legit?
+-

Check if a roofing company is legit by verifying their business license, insurance, and local certifications. Look for memberships in professional associations, read customer reviews, and ask for recent project references. A legitimate company will be transparent and provide all documentation upon request.

5. How to choose a roofing company?
+-

When choosing a roofing company, consider their experience, customer reviews, warranty offerings, and quality of materials. Make sure they provide clear communication, detailed estimates, and a solid portfolio of completed projects. Local expertise is also a major advantage for understanding regional roofing needs.

6. How do you know if your roofing contractor is ripping you off?
+-

Warning signs that your roofing contractor might be ripping you off include vague contracts, pressure to pay large upfront deposits, lack of proper documentation, and unexplained price increases. Always ask for itemized estimates and written guarantees, and avoid contractors who avoid answering your questions directly.
