The members of the Metcalf crew were phenomenal! They worked from the time they arrived until dark. They moved as a well-oiled machine, anticipating each others’ needs and what their next steps would be. If there is additional tree work I need to have done, I guarantee it will be Metcalf I call.

They did a great job taking down three tall trees that were close to the house in just three hours. Very efficient and courteous workers.

The BEST firewood! They truly deliver the best quality. Kelly worked with me to make sure I got the right size of wood to fit in my small wood stove—they even dropped off samples of short cut vs regular cut for me to try in my stove! They delivered a HUGE amount of perfect evenly cut pieces that were easy to stack, and the wood was seasoned well and burns beautifully and efficiently. Would never go anywhere else for firewood needs!!

The area that they had to work In was a very tight, and they were able to accomplish taking the tress down with no damage to our home.

Wonderful to work with and my trees and deck are the better for it! I met with Mr Metcalf to discuss the very large tulip poplar that provided much needed shade for our new deck but was also messy. Thinking we were going to have to remove the tree we decided to thin and prune. It work out amazing and the tree is as beautiful as ever. Family owned local business and the place to go for tree work. They also plow snow!

Metcalf Tree Service is a very professional and reliable local company. They get back to you quickly about estimates, and on the jobs they are hired to perform. They tended to all the damaged trees in our backyard from the horrible ice storm a couple years ago. Our trees look better groomed and healthier. They saved a beautiful old poplar tree that provides wonderful shade for us in the summer. By trimming its lower branches, it has kept the mess down from leaves and sap on the deck. They also went above and beyond and rescued our cat when it got stuck in one of our taller trees. We highly recommend this company to anyone needing tree services.

We had 5 trees cut down yesterday, and they did an amazing job. Very efficient, neat, professional. And they did it in one day! These were pretty big Tulip Poplars, and 2 big pines. I highly recommend these guys.

They answered their phones and responded knowledgeably starting with the initial consultation, estimates, scheduling and follow up. Their crew was professional and respectful of our property. We had a tree poke through our roof during a storm, and Metcalf was quick to not only answer the call, but get us to a "quick fix" to prevent more damage from the rain. Follow up communication was thorough and professional. They gave us a level of service that (sadly) is far above and beyond what I'm used to these days (she says, sounding like her grandmother, but still standing behind it). It was a really positive experience for us (you know, aside from the storm damage).

Professional, skilled and reasonably priced. They actually raked my lawn after to make sure there was nothing left uncleared on the lawn.

These guys worked like troopers. There was no goofing around; I don't think they even took a break, and it was very hot and humid. They knew what they were doing, and they did an excellent job, and they cleaned up diligently when they were done. I would definitely ask them back for another job, and I highly recommend them to others. And the work was very reasonably priced.

I never write reviews, but I was compelled to write a review for Metcalf Tree Service. They sent three young me that did an outstanding job! They answered all my questions and were very polite! They climbed to the top of a maple tree that was over a hundred years old with lots of dead branches. The tree was covered with Ivy from bottom to top.They removed all the ivy. They removed all the dead branches and cut back the limbs from the house and electrical lines. They were so careful that nothing was damaged. They cleaned up everything and had constantly worked while they were here. I have kept their card so we can use them again,

I would highly recommend Metcalf Tree Service. We had a tree fall on our garage and the day I called them they came to look at the issue and the next day they were here to remove it. Metcalf Tree & Landscape did a great job cleaning up a large fallen tree and taking down four smaller dead trees. And they left the yard looking great. If you need a tree service, I highly recommend them.

Metcalf tree service removed a tulip poplar that was 80 ft tall, about 50 inch diameter at the base (and 20 ft from the house). When Shawn came to give us an estimate the first thing he explained is what heavy equipment he would need to bring in and his plan to minimize the damage to the grass and shrubbery. His crew was very careful taking down the tree and protecting grass and shrubbery. When i went out the next morning to cut the grass I was amazed to find there was absolutely NO damage to the grass or any landscaping and all the limbs, debris had been completely cleaned up. I have used a number of tree services over the years and none of them have come close to the care Metcalf took in protecting the landscaping and the thoroughness of the cleanup.

Terrific work taking out a tree in a very complicated location in our backyard, and excellent attention to other trimming and work with a big tree in the front of our house. Outstanding attention to detail - the yard was restored 100% and then some after the tree was removed. Shawn is wonderful to deal with. I would recommend them very highly for tree work in Charlottesville and the surrounding area.

I can't say it enough how grateful we were for the entire team at Metcalf! About two weeks ago a massive Virginia pine fell completely across our entire house damaging the roof on both ends. Shawn and his team were there quickly that afternoon to begin the removal and were prompt to start the next day. The whole team was courteous, professional, and made us feel safe through the whole process. They did an incredible job with the clean up and even put our bird feeders back in surrounding trees. They tarps they installed are still going strong and have kept out the rain. We will continue to use Metcalf for all of our tree services and highly recommend them—especially for emergency tree service!

The Metcalf crew did a fantastic job safely removing a very large oak that was hanging dangerously over the back half of our roof, as well as limbing several other trees surrounding our yard and driveway.

They scheduled quickly, worked safely, and cleaned up thoroughly. It was a better job than I'd expected, and were more thorough than I would have asked if I'd been out there directing it all myself. Highly recommend, would use again.

I am so impressed with everything about my experience with Metcalf Tree and Landscape. When the winter storm of Jan 2022, took a tree out, obstructing our driveway, they came over very quickly and made our driveway passible and then returned and took down the badly damaged tree.

We have known of them and their good community service for years. We also chose them because they are licensed and insured - and not everyone is.

Later, I asked for an estimate about other trees that had been damaged by the storm and by neighbors trees that had fallen on some of our trees. They gave me an estimate that was clear and explained exactly what they would do.

It took a bit of time for us to save up to have this work done. When we let them know we were ready, they were here the next day to begin prep work. With their very busy schedule I know we lucked out. From start to finish, they were professional, friendly, efficient beyond measure, and thorough. They were able to get all nine trees down in one day. They even came blew any Ieft over saw dust out of the driveway.

During their work here, they checked in by phone (to let me know they’d be back to tidy, to ask about relocating vehicles, etc.)

All the men were very polite and courteous. They clearly knew exactly what they were doing.

As if that wasn’t enough, the wood we had taken down will become part of their charity, Start A Spark, which provides free wood to families in need who heat with wood burning stoves.

We will definitely use them again for any and all tree needs. I can’t recommend them highly enough!

We were referred to Metcalf by a friend who has known them for about 15 years, and they did an amazing job! They removed a dead tree and trimmed three others for a lower rate than what two other services quoted us just for the tree removal. The crew was very professional and impressive to see in action. The tree they had to remove was in an incredibly tricky spot and they thread the needle perfectly, saving our neighbor's fence as well as our garden! Their clean-up was phenomenal as well. We'll be coming back to them any time we need tree services and are recommending them to all our friends!

I give Metcalf Tree & Landscape Svc ***** . Two years ago they removed 4 trees from my front and backyard, ground stumps and hauled debris away. They were the only tree service of eight that called me back. Reasonably priced, and they are coming out again to remove one more tree. I have spread the news of how professional Metcalf is!

We hired Metcalf Tree Service to drop 5 large trees that were located between our garage and shed. They were professional, careful, and hard working. We had 12 pines that the previous owners had planted too close together. They were dry and dieing. With the recent storm about half of them tore free from the ground and leaned against our house. Metcalf tree service was quick and efficient, very professional. They are very busy but not only did they get rid of the downed trees, they also cut down the one we were most worried about before the next big storm coming this weekend.

They did great work for me after a big storm had knocked trees down and left branches hanging dangerously on the house and in other trees. The crew came out and addressed all the trees, hanging branches, and debris. They even hauled all the branches I had collected prior to their arrival.

I've used Metcalf Tree & Landscape twice for tree removal and each time they went above and beyond. The crew did additional clean-up around the yard that was outside what was scoped and left my property looking better than when they arrived. The pricing is honest. The company is fully insured--check this aspect and ask for proof of insurance in your vetting process. I've had suspect quotes from other companies that were lower and they could not come up with the proof of insurance. This is important with tree removal. The Metcalf crew each time are highly skilled. It's amazing watching them rig branches that hang over the house for a safe drop. The owners are great to work with, professional and responsive. This is my go-to company for tree removal and tough jobs.

This is the company you should call when you have a problem -- reputable and vast experience, reasonable prices, trustworthy, the right equipment and team and most importantly, responsive when Mother Nature is unkind. I'm sure they're also great with routine tree cutting/trimming, but let's face it, by the time you're searching online you likely have a problem! I called and met with a handful of companies; really glad I found this one.

We discovered Metcalf Tree & Landscape years ago when we needed one of our dead oak trees cut down and removed and have used them repeatedly over the years for other trees. During a recent ice storm, one of our pine trees totally uprooted and landed across our driveway. I immediately called and spoke to Kelley Metcalf and asked if we could be put on their list. She said Shawn would come by first thing the next morning. I said “perfect”. Sure enough, he came by, assessed our need and said he would send someone to at least cut the section over our driveway and then would come back another day to finish cleaning and hauling it away. He asked if I needed anything else done while they were here and I said “I sure do” and showed him. One of his crew came early that afternoon and took care of clearing our driveway and then two of his crew came by a couple of days later to finish the cleaning and hauling away. Then this week, two of his crew came by to take care of the other items, the biggest one was trimming our maple tree. They were here most of the day and into the evening and did not leave until everything was cleaned up. They were very hard workers and did a fantastic job! Thank you!

The price is unbeatable, they were significantly lower than their competitors. They’re honest, hard working, and considerate company. They have insurance, which is a must when such large trees are being taken down close to a house. They responded efficiently. And I was extremely satisfied with the quality of work, I would highly recommend them. They’ve got one new customer for life! They went above and beyond when it came to removing the trees, and cleaning up low branches. Metcalf's returned my call within 24 hours and were at my house within 2 hours. Shawn took a lot of time evaluating the surroundings of a large tree covered with huge English Ivy vines which went beyond the height of my slate roof and chimney. It was very close to my house and trees surrounding it belonged to my neighbor and access to the tree was limited. Shawn took a lot of time to access all these things, and not only that, he also spoke to my neighbor as well which helped to allay any fears she had. The price was reasonable and he started within 2 days. The crew was outstanding. They were professional, considerate and polite. The job took less than 2 days and they cleaned up beautifully. I can't praise them enough and highly recommend them.

A massive double white oak came down in a storm across my driveway. Metcalf was the only company out of the four in my area that responded. They quickly came out for a quote, put together a plan and worked with me and my insurance and had the driveway cleared within 24 hours. They could have done it sooner and even that same , but I told them it wasn't an emergency and that evening work wasn't necessary. Shawn and his wife are so helpful and just a pleasure to work with, and Shawn's been doing this for decades--he knows what he's doing and does it safely and, in my opinion, at a bargain of a price. It's hard to find quality customer service these days, but you'll find it here with Metcalf.

Could not be more pleased with the work - they were thorough, cleaned up all debris, and great to work with. And more recently had them return to grind some stumps.. Wow! We had a huge tree fall on our roof recently. It was later in the afternoon by the time I heard and made it home. I called Metcalf and they had someone out to take a look literally within minutes. They worked late into the evening getting the tree down enough where it wasn't a hazard and came back early the next day with the necessary equipment to finish getting it down. They did an awesome job getting the tree down and cleaning up. Other than the tree being gone, couldn't really tell they were even here. They even did a great job putting a temporary patch on the roof to keep out the weather until I could get a roofer in to take a look. They were extremely professional and great to work with. Would highly recommend!

Great job, very professional. Excellent clean up, you can't tell they were here, except the trees are gone! My sister used another service and they left hangers in the trees, cut limbs weren't removed, ruts left in the yard, damaged light posts, etc. The complete opposite of the service Metcalf provided, at a very reasonable rate.

When the microburst hit Charlottesville a few years ago a tree fell on our house and every schiester with a chainsaw and a pickup truck came out to cut our tree for 10,000.00 or more. The first company we went with brought out 4 cranes and was not able to take our tree down because of the awkward positioning of our property. Metcalf's crew came out, eyed the process, and gave us a very fair quote. They did all of their work like true loggers/treemen. They were up in the trees with repelling gear and did a thoroughly professional job take apart our tree piece by piece, relieving the stress on our houses main beam. They cleaned up all of the leaves and debris as well. Very nice people to work with. Honest and professional.
