McLain just finished construction of our magnificent new home in Estes Park. Our experience with McLain was outstanding and allowed our marriage to survive the construction project. Phil took over our project, without hesitation, after the previous contractor was unable to get the job done. McLain finished the job on budget and pretty close to on-time, despite our changes and vestiges from the first contractor. He worked very closely with our architects in a highly collaborative manner to address the complexities of the project. Phil's integrity, attention to detail, superb workmanship, quality, and creativity were critical to the creation of the magnificent mountain top home we are now enjoying. Despite our being out of state, Phil communicated with us regularly so we had a clear picture of what was happening as communications were open and honest. McLain smoothly dealt with all of the challenges and hiccups along the way keeping the end result in mind. We count Phil and Abby not only as contractors, but friends. We highly recommend McLain Construction; they will not disappoint!

We highly recommend McLain Construction! McLain went above and beyond our expectations and made our out of state building experience stress free. From introduction to completion we found Phil to have extensive knowledge of the building process with an amazing attention to detail. We had some additional work done after we moved in so we also got to know a few of the guys. We found the whole McLain crew to be friendly, professional and accommodating. Our project manager, Brad, visited or checked in daily to make sure everything was to our liking. We truly went through withdrawal once everyone was gone. We not only gained a beautifully built house, we gained lifelong friends. We love our McLain built house!

Phil worked on a 2, phase project. Phase 1 was remodeling an attached garage and turning it into a bedroom/office (with a Murphy bed), and a utility/laundry room. Additionally, we decided to have the entire exterior siding replaced with fire-resistant “Allura” siding.

Phase 2 was an addition to replace a very funky “ships ladder” stairs with a standard stairway, adding a bathroom to the 3rd floor, and convert a small bedroom to a 2nd office/sitting room.

On top of that, when looking at repairing our existing deck, we found the structure was degraded to the point that it was decided to build a new, expanded deck and move our hot tub off the deck and create a special place for it.

The work was outstanding and Phil and his crew, especially the Project Supervisor, Brad, went above and beyond in making sure everything was done to my (rather exacting) standards. Photo is our “wrap party” on the new deck with a few of Phil’s crew.

McLain Construction built our beautiful custom home in Estes Park and we cannot say enough wonderful things about their team and the process! From our first contact with Phil McLain to today as we look out at our fabulous views, each step was made as simple as possible for us. Building a custom home can be daunting, especially when living out of state, but the McLain crew did a fabulous job keeping us updated about everything. Phil and his crew obviously take great pride in their work and make you feel like family as they seem as particular about the little things as we did. Building a custom home always comes with hiccups but McLain Construction worked through every one of the challenges with us to make sure we were happy. We wake every day in a beautiful home we cannot believe we own!

I loved working with McLain Construction! We were impressed with other jobs completed by McLain Construction and were thrilled to have the opportunity for them to take on our project. We took an existing home built in the 70's and renovated the entire garage into an additional bedroom plus an additional living room. This included building out the new walls, electrical, etc. We completely refloored the 2nd level with hickory wood flooring and the entire main level with heated tile. We also replaced the stairs and railing completely. McLain gave us really thoughtful and insightful advice on some of our scope and ideas throughout the entire process. This was extremely helpful. I will say they are consistently responsive and available when we reached out to them when questions come up and and they clearly work very hard to avoid any unnecessary surprises or hurdles. We were confident in McLain Construction and got genuine and honest feedback and answers during the process. I completely trust their expertise and would definitely recommend them to anyone without hesitation. Our house transformation is so beautiful and we are so grateful to McLain Construction!

Phil rebuilt our cabin that burned to the ground, a total loss. So he was with us from start to finish……he managed all aspects of the build—excavation, framing, roofing, electrical, plumbing, etc.

And in addition he gave us help on decor, finishes, windows, and everything else.

We could not be happier with Phil’s work!!!! He was simply terrific, day after day. He was calm when we were upset (which is part of having your place burn down, believe me), and he helped us with difficult decisions on cost and choices. His advice was uniformly excellent and helpful. He was not afraid to tell us if he thought we were making a poor choice and most of the time he was right. He is very artistic. We did not hire a designer as we had a good sense of what we wanted, but not always, and that was when we were grateful for his ideas.

The subs were also excellent, with one exception….but that company was sold halfway through our project. The work after the sale was not on the level before the sale, and Phil was as disappointed with them as we were. He said he would never use them again. All the other subs and Phil’s own workers did superior work. We are very happy with the quality, professionalism, and service, not to mention the results. The construction proceeded with efficiency. He was totally on top of ordering supplies, so there was very little waiting, though some things were not in his control. From ground breaking to C. O. was 8 1/2 months.
One incident stands out as to his character and regard for his subs and employees. The day Estes Park was evacuated, he had people working there in Allenspark instead of in Estes because it was less smoky. When the evacuation orders came, he drove out to let them know as there was no way to call. When he got to Meeker Park, he was stopped by a state patrolman who told him if he chose to go ahead, he would not be able to turn around and go back to Estes. He went ahead even though it cost him many hours of driving (through Nederland) to get back as Left Hand, Hwy 7 and Hwy. 36 were all closed.

So NO reservations about Phil and McLain Constructions! That, I suspect, is quite unusual for such a large project with so many facets. But we would hire him again in an instant, for any kind of job.

McLain Construction built a truly heartwarming addition to our home. Phil and his crew masterfully blended aesthetics, functionality, and creativity to merge the existing residence with the new living space. Our project was delivered under budget without compromising quality and value. McLain Construction passionately pioneers a modern return to true craftsmanship.

McLain Construction did an absolutely beautiful job on a staircase for our boutique. Phil designed the railing and surrounding based on the aesthetic of our store and the look is perfect. We are thrilled with the finished product!
It was a pleasure to have Phil and his crew working in our store. They were so professional and polite. They took extra care to protect our flooring by covering it with paper before any of their tools were brought into the space. They carefully sealed off the areas containing our products so that nothing was harmed by construction dust. We were very comfortable in handing over our keys to them because they were so respectful of our space.
We are so happy with this remodel that we are already talking with them about another project!

We own a vacation rental in Estes Park. In order to pass the rental safety requirements the old deck needed to be replaced. From our first meeting with Phil McLain we were impressed with his professionalism. He really listened to what we wanted. Before the build even began we were impressed with his expertise in planning. His invoice included an itemized list of the costs associated. That invoice was right on the money, no hidden or added costs which we greatly appreciated. Since we live out of state (from our rental) Phil even sent deck board samples to us so we could actually see colors and textures. All materials needed were delivered the day before work began. As the work progressed we were impressed with the quality of the work. Throughout the build the attention to detail was excellent. All in all we were extremely pleased with the high level of craftsmanship. The deck is perfect! It is incredibly well built and we look forward to many years of enjoying it.
Phil and his crew were always pleasant and courteous. In addition, the crew was sensational in getting the job done! Day-in and day-out, regardless of the weather, the crew was on-task, not wasting time. They were meticulous workers ensuring everything looked right and were more than willing to discuss their knowledge of work to be performed. They cleaned up the area everyday. I used McLain for two smallish projects. Phil was a pleasure to deal with throughout. His team did professional, high quality work, and after every day, carefully cleaned-up. His team was prompt every day. Moreover, when I was not 100% satisfied with one element, Phil had his team fix the issue. He was always responsive to my emails and texts. Very attentive.

I had my crawl space access rebuilt by Phil and his crew. Wow, what a difference: it is very well constructed and convenient to use now. The job was done efficiently, promptly and courteously. We bought our house in Estes Park from Phil about 7 years ago. He built it from the ground up and does beautiful work. Our inspector commented that it is the most well-built house he has ever seen. He is very attentive to detail and uses excellent quality materials. The paint has perfectly straight lines; the cabinets and trim are perfectly straight and gorgeous. When we had blinds hung, the company that did that also commented about how well it was done. The paint colors, tile, wood, etc that he chooses are beautiful, great quality, and flow together wonderfully. He has an artist's eye. If we ever had to leave our beautiful house, we would want to move to another of Phil's houses.
On a personal note, Phil is as good as they come. He is professional, respectful, kind, gentle, patient, and helpful. He grew up in Estes so has a ton of contacts and all of the people to whom he has referred us have the upmost respect for him as a person and professional.
