Jim Black Construction performed water mitigation at my house after a pipe leaked and dumped gallons of water into a basement bathroom. The mitigation team was thorough, skilled, friendly, and communicative at every step of the process. Work was completed as fast as possible, limiting additional damages to my property. I’d certainly recommend them for mitigation and reconstruction work.

Very happy with their work. I was referred directly by my insurance company (USAA) and they were very transparent about the process and broke down the project timeline for us. Having our basement flood really sucked but Jim Black made the process far less stressful for us. I really appreciate that I didn't have to be the go between for them and my insurance company; they just got everything done and made a stressful situation far less painful. I want to really shout out their pack in and pack out crew. Our things were handled very carefully and packed away very nicely. It made unpacking much easier.

Horrible customer care. My elderly mother went with Jim Black Construction for water damage in her townhome. After mitigating water damage they then charged her $9000 for relocation of furniture and boxing valuables. For one wooden dining room chair, they used no less than 3 moving blankets. With dozens and dozens of boxes, more packing materials and fragile stickers were used than actually valuables. It’s hard not to think this company preys on the elderly and will do anything for an easy buck. Receiving hostile customer service for what could have been an easy two minute conversation could have alleviated some of these concerns. This company made $30,000 ($9,000 for again moving furniture down a flight of stairs) and wouldn’t answer basic questions for helping us disclose property damage information to potential new buyers of property. My heart goes out to everyone dealing with aging parents and I hope you choose wisely when working with these big companies.

Called them for structural damage in a wall of my house. One person came out to look at it, said someone would call me back in the next couple days and I never got that call. Still need the work done but it will not be Jim Black that gets the job at this point.

I had some repairs that needed to be done from a previous job that Jim Black Construction did as part of an insurance claim and I couldn’t be happier with the service and attention that Mike Trotter, his foreman Sky, and their crew provided. Excellent communication, showed up as planned, and delivered professional work. Thank you.

I needed to get my ceiling repaired due to negligence of the builder on a new build. After going back and forth with them and my insurance, my insurance agent recommended I talk with Jim Black Construction. We met with Brien to go over the project, and then we were in constant contact with Donovan about each step.

Once the ceiling was opened up to look for leaks, it was discovered that the builder didn't properly waterproof the shower above and that it would require more specialized work. Donovan discussed what this would look like if we continued with JBC and gave us recommendations for folks that can get the work done at non-general contractor cost. Donovan also has been kind enough to lend us his knowledge and advice for the additional work even though this project is complete.

As for this project, it's been completed satisfactorily, and I would highly recommend Jim Black Construction for any discovery/restoration work. Very easy to work with and very professional.

Unfortunately, there was an accident at my home where a vehicle struck my garage. I then decided to hire Jim Black construction to complete the necessary repairs. They came out within the same week and sent out an engineer shortly after to inspect the integrity of the home. I had the privilege to work both with Jim (Project manager) and Donovan (construction superintendent) who were absolutely amazing. Both were very respectful and extremely responsive. Any questions I had were answered within minutes. I must say this job went quite smoothly with the help of them both. Donovan made sure everything was completed up to my expectations as a home owner and went above and beyond to assist me through it all. Donovan is a true example of an exemplary employee and I would highly recommend working with him.It’s been a pleasure working with this company . I would definitely return for any future work.

I needed my roof replaced due to a recent hail storm. I got connected with Jim Black Construction and they provided a very streamlined experience from beginning to end. They inspected my roof in a timely manner, provided an estimate to my insurance company, and kept in constant contact with me throughout the process. They provided a wide variety of color options for shingles and gutters and were incredibly flexible with my schedule. Even after the roof was replaced, they found some shingles that needed to be fixed and did so in a very timely manner to ensure the finished product was secure and up to the high quality standards they hold themselves to. Overall they did a fantastic job and made the entire process as easy and efficient as possible. I highly recommend them for any roof repair work you need done.

My basement has flooded 2 times since I moved to CO. Once was because of a clogged pipe in the laundry room, second was because a line in the house froze when we hit -32 degrees last year. I had to have my basement floors redone due to a plumbing leak. It took a few weeks to get lined up in the schedule but once they sent me a schedule everything went smoothly. All the morning contractors showed up on time and finished their jobs quickly. One guy who was gonna paint the baseboards got delayed but quickly came back out asap to finish his job. The moving company they used was great as well. The not only moved all my furniture into a storage pod. But they thoroughly wrapped cleaned and did their job well. I was impressed that they put all my pics back in the same spots and seemed to take pride in their work. It's looking good.

We had a flood caused by a broken pipe and made the mistake of initially calling another contractor. Jim Black Construction came to our rescue and mitigated the damage caused by the flood and the original contractor. The team was very responsive, ethical, and thorough. The price was reasonable and the service and results were exceptional! I will recommend them to anyone having the misfortune of a flood.

If you have this company working on any of your buildings, make sure you check after they leave. They refuse to secure buildings. They will leave all entry doors unsecured along with Windows and every single unit inside of an unsecured building. All doors standing wide open. In my particular case there were three transients found in three separate units of the building that they are working on and refuse to secure.

Subjected to a swift relocation due to an emergency involving water damage and mold toxicity, I found myself in dire need of a rapid assessment for my insurance. This is when Kyle Simpson of Jim Black Construction was appointed by my insurance company to assist. Remarkably, he reached out to me within an hour of my conversation with the insurance adjustor and was present at the property by the following morning. Kyle's prompt response and empathetic approach not only made an unbearable situation manageable but also demonstrated unwavering professionalism. I wholeheartedly recommend him for his steadfast commitment to ethical conduct and his consistent delivery of highly satisfactory results.

Jim Black Const. was easy to work with the whole way through. We had a leak in our roof and our insurance company connected us with JBC. They were out the same day to mitigate the leak and over the following weeks got the roof sealed and the damaged interior drywall patched and painted. Their 5 year warranty of the work was a huge factor in going with JBC since leaks can be tough to fully fix.

The most confusing part of this project was that there were several different teams that worked at the house: mitigation, demo on the drywall, roof sealers, drywall repair. They seemed to operate independently, so it wasn’t always easy to ask one crew what to expect from the next one. On the other hand, we did have a point of contact who was great about responding to calls and texts. And he came to the job site to make sure everything was on schedule and going well. Overall, we would recommend JBC without reservation.

We had a need for emergency repairs to our house and were connected with Jim Black Construction. After Jim Black Construction took over, our situation began to rapidly improve. We were connected to Mike Trotter (insurance negotiator extraordinaire), who brought in construction superintendent, Donovan Lorenzen. Donovan organized us all and started the ball rolling quickly. The people who came to our home were professional, efficient and easy to work with. Repairs, construction and finishing was relatively painless. Donovan followed through with his promises and became someone we trusted. Somehow, he pulled all the moving parts together. We are so glad that we ended up at Jim Black. This was a trying situation and things went really well, (better than we hoped for by far) Would use them again in a heartbeat. If I could leave no stars I would. Our home caught on fire Oct 4th. around 1am. Jim Black shows up and says they are boarding up our windows and doors for us. They show up while the fire department is still putting out the fire. We think this is just how it works and they are with the fire department. I found out that they must have just been listening to police scanners and showed up. They do not discuss price with me, they do not discuss that they are a contractor, nothing. My husband stayed around to look for our puppy and we are glad he did. Some of the men with Jim Black thought it was appropriate to ask to buy items from our home. Multiple times. We just lost our home and they really think it is appropriate to make offer on items we have left??? If you wish to dispute this, we still have the piece of paper one of your men wrote down his name and number down on, in case we decided to sell the items he was interested in! My husband did contact the owner and he didn't seem to care much. No wonder this is their ethic.
They also thought it was appropriate to use my husbands drill batteries. He asked them " are those my batteries?"...and they said " oh ya, sorry mine is dead" while hanging up a board.... FYI please return the batteries because they were not left by your men.
When something like this happens everyone is in shock, we are lucky to have all gotten out of the fire and you think these people are there to help. NOT JIM BLACK. They took advantage of this horrible situation and continued to try and take more.
I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND JIM BLACK THEY ARE NOT PROFESSIONAL AND HAVE NO COMPASSION., AND AT THIS POINT ARE THEFTS FOR TAKING PROPERTY THAT DID NOT BELONG TO THEM.

We had a water leak in our home that did some significant damage which was covered by our Nationwide Preferred homeowners policy. The claims adjustor said that one of their contractors is Jim Black Construction (hereinafter, "JBC")and insureds had made favorable comments. During my initial contact, JBC thoroughly explained the process including water remediation and repair. JBC remediation people arrived the next day and started mitigating the damage including preventing mold issues. Miguel was the Project Manager for both remediation and repairs/restoration. Chris was the Project Superintendent. Miguel wrote the scope of work and he didn't miss a thing. Chris supervised the workers and made sure everything was completed to our satisfaction. Both were at all times professional and responsive. The sub contractors they used did their work well and were similarly professional and trustworthy. Well done Jim Black Construction!

A toilet leak on the main floor left us with significant water and mold damage in our downstairs bathroom. After receiving several recommendations, we turned to Jim Black construction for our mold remediation and bathroom restoration. Our project manager kept everything organized, and on time. They provided the services of a design consultant to help us choose materials and colors for our bathroom restoration, without additional cost. The project manager stopped by multiple times to check on progress and address any concerns. The mold and asbestos remediation went quickly and efficiently. The bathroom was restored on time, and on budget. The minimal “hiccups,” and change orders, were handled immediately and professionally. Jim Black was an excellent advocate for us with our insurance company and obtained the maximum, correct, insurance payment for our claim. Final project completion and payment were clearly explained and documented. We are very satisfied with Jim Black's plumbers, electricians, painters and general trades, and the overall outcome of the entire project. Our bathroom is restored and is more useful than before! We are completely satisfied and would recommend Jim Black construction to anyone considering a repair, restoration, or home improvement project.

Final Notes: (1) When we contacted a national “restoration” company - they would not schedule our repair or even give us an estimated start date within six months. “Big Restoration Company” installed dehumidification machines that rendered our bathroom unusable. It certainly was not like it never even happened. (2) Never have Home Depot deliver materials – half our tiles arrived broken.

I would love to start this review by saying that i do support and show respect when it comes to anyone line of business: waitresses, call centers, farmers, construction, hair and nail dresser, ( the list is non exhaustive). This review is not about trying to destroy one's business but to spread awareness of overpriced services.

Now what i don't agree with is overpriced services for less work and that's exactly the experience we received from Jim Black Construction Inc.

The only reason i am giving them a 1 start is because of how great Landon was with his communication and willingness to help us while we were away from our home when our frozen pipe burst and caused the flooding in our basement.

The negative part was working with shaina as their designer and the overpriced services.

Shaina's behavior was kinda weird and she didn't show any interest whatsoever in her so called role of a designer. The only time we met her, she was not friendly at all, cold and giving dry answers. she was suggesting / giving advise on a space she never laid eyes on.
As a "designer ", you will think that she will at least go to the site to take a look at the project that is being be worked on so she can talk to the customer about their choices and give advise but nooooooo.

I will not go into all the details for the rest but here is the real kicker:PRICE

For almost 20K, they said they will not be able to switch the carpet to vinyl flooring because it will be too expensive and we will have to pay an additional amount of money ( almost 6K). Let me tell you that we are talking about an 860 sqt and not the entire surface needed to be covered.
Their biggest argument was especially about doing the stairs. They said labor for that will cost even more than the flooring price.

Let's just say we ended up going in another direction and not with them because it was just getting ridiculous at a certain point.

We were able to install vinyl flooring, add an additional room, create an amazing brand new island and redo the flooring on the bathroom in the basement all that under $6000.

The kicker is, since they started the work right before we decided to go with an other construction company, they started some work and we had to pay for it. For 1 and half wall repair and part of the ceiling.

The quote given to us was $2000 and let me give you a portion of how outrageous their prices are:
Tape joint for 49.08 LF = $492.27
1/2 drywall hang, tape ready for texture = $373.98

The bottom line is please get multiple bids. Am wondering how and why the insurance company work with them because it is outrageous how they can charge you almost $500 for a tape joint when you can buy 2-1/16 in. x 250 ft. Paper Drywall Joint Tape for $2.98

If you do the math, they only needed 2 tapes to repair that portion which will have cost them $5 but we got charge $492.27.

The quote they gave us for the repair they did, was not even the full amount we were able to buy a 22 mil vinyl flooring to cover 860sqf ($1,468.27 at home & decor).

I want people to be aware of this so they won't sign any kind of paperwork binding you to a contract with anyone. To be honest, it was our bad for letting this get this far.

I had contracted Jim Black Construction to restore my master bedroom/balcony closet after some water damage from my upstairs neighbor's pipe burst in FEB. I was pitched a 3-4 day process. The project manager scheduled a whole week+, with each crew given a whole day for their individual assignment. Each crew only worked for roughly 2 hours, except for the drywall. They worked for 6 hours the first day and maybe 4 the second day (a month ago) and left trash.

The project manager even insinuated that the burst pipe was my fault.

Communication was trash. Whenever I reached out and asked for updates/progress with when the work would be started, if all materials had been acquired, any information with the project the responses were usually rude in nature.

All in all if you have been put in a bind and need work done on your home, look else where. Timeliness, attention to detail, and respect for the customer are all thing you won't find with Jim Black Construction Inc.

I can only say that we had the greatest experience with Jim Black Construction team that put our kitchen back together for us. they competed it on time for us to entertain friends and family with Christmas festivities . They showed up and showed off every day by completing the task that was schedule for that day, I was very impressed with the detailed calendar type schedule I received from the supervisor assigned to the the project. Chadwick McIntire was nothing less than a top shelf professional that kept the the project and all of his crews, personal and sub contractors on time and all of the contractor on the jobsite had nothing but good word about him and the way he conducted business.... In fact one crew said, that they was working late for him just because he was the best supervisor they had ever worked for... Great job!!!! and thank you so much to Chadwick McIntire and to the hold staff at Jim Blacks Construction company. If I should ever need any more work done I would call on this team again.....

October 2023 update: a year after remediation finished and almost a year after Jim black took over this relatively small restoration job and they still aren’t finished. The things that aren’t finished at this point are due to mistakes their subcontractors made and damages they caused during the restoration.
I’d also like to note that they’re so disorganized that the default response to all negative reviews seems to be “we can’t find any project matching your name. Are you sure you’re dealing with Jim Black construction?”
Yes, we are all in error and randomly reviewing small construction companies /s *eye roll*

Mismanagement and one catastrophe after another. What should have been a 3 month project has dragged on for almost 9 now with no end in sight. I’m sure their days of working with a certain insurance company are numbered. Avoid at all costs.

Would be happy to add pictures of all the damage caused. Then you’ll know exactly which project this is.
