I toured the factory initially and then chose the Shiloh color for our home. I did see mixed reviews from some other customers but I haven’t had the same experience. Looks stunning, super lightweight and durable.
I installed CeDUR shingles on my roof four years ago, replacing the original cedar shingles that had degraded in the southern humidity. Four years on, the shingles look fantastic. Unlike most of the plastic shingles we had looked at, the CeDUR shingles were much more realistic looking, and not just from a distance. On the roof most people would not know they were not cedar shingles, and I appreciate the increased safety from fire over natural cedar shingles.
I only have two niggles regarding the shingles. First, we ordered the charcoal colored shingles (Shiloh). They are very elegant, but I was surprised at how much hotter my roof got with those on top. You may be thinking, well duh, they're black. Of course they'll get hot. But since the shingles are made of foam I guess I just hoped they would resist the heat transfer better. To be clear, they are much cooler than dark asphalt shingles. But they are much hotter in the sun than real cedar shingles.
The second niggle is that the shingles come in three widths. This helps give the shingles a more natural look, which is nice. But the edges of the widest shingles tend to curl up in the sun. It takes a few years for this to happen, and not all of them do. But I have quite of these curled up shingles on my house by now. I suppose it gives the roof a more rustic appearance, and if you like that well then I guess you are all good. But I wasn't expecting it and honestly it concerns me a little that it isn't giving as much protection as it should curled up like that. I haven't had any issues so far, so hopefully the issue is just cosmetic. But they really should be engineered not to do that.
Finally, an issue for installers is that the shingles are SUPER SLIPPERY to walk on when new. Make sure your installer uses safety equipment and has good insurance. A lot of installers have a casual attitude towards safety, so you may need to insist on it to protect yourself and the workers on your roof.
All that said, I love the CeDUR product and recommend it to anyone who asks me about my roof (and many people have).
We live high in the Colorado Rockies in a rather harsh environment at over 7000 feett. 5 years into our CeDUR install and 50 year warranty and I am getting worried. We have long runs of shingles that are cuppng, curling and cracking. The CeDUR folks hhave been good about coming out to assess the roof and offer replacement shingles. Mr. Konrad Bolowich inspected the roof, deemed that it was well installed, and was very complimentary of the "flow" and natural appearance of the roof. True, it does look like my old, natural cedar shake roof, imperfections and all. Mr. Bolowish reassured me that after 5 years the fading, degradation, and chemical change process of the material would cease, and I should not see further changes. He assured me that they woould replace broken or badly curled shingles and pay for the installation labor and get me a recommendation on a certified roofing company.
