Worst experience ever. You should read the whole story here.
Went for a simple oil change on May 30, 2025. The guy who checked me in strongly recommended that I get synthetic oil. I said I had never put synthetic oil in the car, so then he suggested I put in a blend. I asked him if he was sure that would not harm the engine (2004 Volvo S80) and he assured me it would not. He said it was only $15 more. So I agreed to the "synthetic blend"
Then he asked me if I wanted to sell the car and said he would make a cash offer for it on the spot. I thought that was odd and said I was not interested. Then I wandered over to the DeBarr Costco and returned in 30 minutes. They said the oil change was completed. The same guy who checked me in was at the cash register when I checked out ("RJ"). He told me the total was $140. I told him that was wrong and reminded him that he quoted me $98. He admitted he had quoted me $98 and said it was not his fault that someone else put in full synthetic oil. He claimed he could do nothing about it, so I asked to see the manager and he said the manager told him to change me $140. When I continued to protest, he said he would give me a "senior discount" of $10, something he did not tell me when he quoted me the $98.
If I hadn't been in a hurry to meet friends, I would have protested more and even called the police if they refused to release my car until I paid. I insisted that RJ type into the notes section of the invoice what happened. He said he would but before he printed it, I said I wanted to read what he wrote. He wrote something that did not tell the full story. So I insisted that he rewrite it and dictated what I wanted on the invoice. He agreed and typed it. But then he had a problem with the printer, saying it wouldn't print.
He went to another cash register that was connected to another printer and printed the invoice, but the "note" was not on that invoice. He hand-wrote that I had agreed to a synthetic blend. That was correct, but it did not go far enough to state that I was charged for full synthetic oil and was paying over $30 more than I had agreed to pay because JiffyLube insisted that I pay that amount.
Are you getting the picture here?
So I hand-wrote my own note on the invoice and insisted that "RJ" sign it, which he did. I also told him that if the oil harmed the engine, I would be back and expect JiffyLube to pay the damages. He said he understood that and again apologized and said it wasn't his fault.
Then he walked me out the car. Strangely, the hood was up. I asked him why and he said it was so he could check to make sure they put the synthetic oil in the car. I thought that, too, was odd. He pulled out the dipstick, wiped it clean on his sweatshirt sleeve, and then inserted and withdrew it to show me the clean synthetic oil. Also odd. I am in my 70s and I have NEVER had someone prove to me that the oil was changed.
As I was starting the car, I noticed that there was no sticker put on the windshield showing the mileage and date of the oil change and sometimes a reminder date/mileage to change the oil in the future. I honked the horn and "RJ" came back out. I asked him why there was no sticker on the windshield. He apologized, saying they had run out of stickers.
RJ may well have been completely innocent here and only did was he was ordered to do. He was polite and apologetic, stating that he agreed that what was happening was wrong but there was nothing he could do about it.
In any case, if you took the time to read this, consider yourself warned about JiffyLube.
