I would highly recommend James & Whitney. My family recently purchased a 1920s New Englander home that needed new siding. Corey Foye worked with us to get the cedar siding we were looking for and did an excellent job. The team that did the project led by Dan King were professional and a pleasure to work with. Every night everything was cleaned up great and the team did a massive job in just a few days. Dan and the team worked extra to make sure the house and site were in perfect shape upon project completion. It looks awesome and we greatly appreciate it.

Great experience with a recent siding project. We had Jesse as a project manager and he goes above and beyond to make it a great experience. He makes sure to be on site on a regular basis and stays on top of any concerns or questions. If you are lucky enough to have him you can know you are in good hands.

On July 3rd 2025, we had James & Whitney replace the roof on my mothers house in Old Orchard Beach. As a General Contractor from another state, I contacted several companies in the area to complete the job. I dealt with Cory Little, who I found to be knowledgeable and professional. He promptly returned all phone calls, email, and texts. On the day of the project, the crew arrived promptly and went right to work. The supervisor, Hudson Ingoldsby was a pleasure to deal with. The crew was polite and professional and did an absolutely outstanding job of stripping off the old shingles and replacing with new architectural shingles as well as releasing the chimney flashing. Cleanup at the end of the day was complete and very thorough. I would highly recommend this company and in particular Cory and Hudson to anyone looking to get this type of work done. We are extremely happy with the results

The entire operation from start to finish was exceptional and without flaw. This is our second time using James and Whitney, and again it has been remarkable watching the professionals at work. Great crew who did an awesome job rebuilding my garage walls after it had extensive damage. The guys were punctual, courteous, polite and very professional. I highly recommend them and if the need ever arises for me again. I will not hesitate to contact them.

Got our roof done because we had a leak and we were getting solar panels. Roof work was done well, affordably and was quick. Thank you for that - especially doing well in the time frame we needed.

Also, we did have a few minor issues with the job itself - ton of scuff marks on the siding and window sills, an outlet was broken as a tool was snapped off in it and so much debris we had to pick up - oh and they left a pallet of supplies we had to take care of.

We were told someone would be by to clean the siding/sills and pick up the materials. No one ever did.

Unfortunately the leak is with the chimney and still leaking and they said they would get us a quote to fix that. They said they would give us a call to give us a quote 5 separate times. We never received a quote or a call - no matter how many times they say we will. It's been a year - we have sent multiple attempts via calling + facebook and email - no luck at all. We've now given up and have decided to go with another company. Unfortunate.

Jesse and his roofing crew were amazing! Meticulous, neat, and professional. The job looks great! New roof and skylights! Beautiful!

These folks do it right. They replaced our home's roof and installed four new skylights and did an absolutely amazing job. Brandon, the project manager, arrived first thing in the morning, gave us a clear and thoughtful explanation of what would happen, and then an exceptionally hard working and well organized team went to work. The quality of their work was excellent. Amazingly, after completely stripping old shingles from our roof and installing new ones, there were no nails or debris left over at all. Their clean up was immaculate.

Each step of the way they provided us with good information, notified us of anything unexpected, and acted with complete integrity.

Everything about the process and outcome was better than we expected. We would work with them again in a heartbeat.

JD Veilleux and his crew worked very hard and did a wonderful job on my roof project. They were also very careful to clean up any debris and left the place spotless. I would highly recommend James &Whitney because of them.

Initial contact was for roof repair, but a new roof was recommended. Job was completed on time and in only one day as promised. Workmanship was excellent. Premises were cleaned up and leftover materials removed promptly. We were given great choices of shingles from two suppliers. Communication with sales, billing, and on-site foreman was excellent. I highly recommend this company.

I messaged a bunch of roofers but James & Whitney were the only ones who replied. That was the first good sign. The second good sign was the great customer service and communication. The third best sign was from the time I messaged them to the time I had a brand new beautiful roof was a matter of a few weeks. The crew was in and out in one day. Everything was cleaned up and I've yet to step on a roofing nail left behind on the lawn, that's because they were immaculate in the clean up.
My only suggestion is along with the dumpster, leave your crew a portable outhouse for their sake. Not that we had any problem but it would have been a nice thing for the crew I imagine.
The roof looks great and they fixed a few things as well that weren't on the work order.

Thankful for James & Whitney Co. After dealing with the nightmare that was our insurance company after a tree fell on our house, it was such a relief to have the roofing go so smoothly! Highly reccomend. Honest company that does excellent work.

I had a very positive experience. James and Whitney did my roof in one day and ended up staying late to complete the project due to a huge thunder and lightening storm that went through and impeded their ability to finished in the previously planned timeline, but that did not stop them from staying later than expected to complete the job. I reached out to a few roofing companies, James and Whitney was the only company to follow up with me. I worked with the South Portland store and Steve was very professional, talked me through options and delivered a contract in the price range I expected for a new roof. Steve was very responsive to any questions along the way, which also helped me to feel confidence in hiring them for the job. It was a very effortless experience and I would highly recommend them for your roofing job!

We recently had James & Whitney replace our exterior wood siding with a new composite siding, replace all window trim and install new exterior doors. The work done has transformed our home giving it a much more modern look while also better protecting it against the elements. The project, led by Jesse as PM, was done efficiently and with significant professionalism and attention to detail. We will absolutely be using James & Whitney for future projects!

I would highly recommend James & Whitney for your home needs. I send out three requests to three companies and they were the only one to reply. Their reply was quick, fast quote with three options to replace our siding. Top quality work, personable, very communicative every step of the way. I would not hesitate to call them again for my home needs.

Roofers don't always have a great reputation. I reached out to several different roofers to get quotes, and the professionalism and customer service I received from James and Whiteny doesn't even compare to all the other roofers I contacted. Not only did they actually get back to me promptly with a quote, but their quote was $5,000 less than the only other roofer that got back to me with a quote. Everyone else I contacted either ghosted me or didn't reach out at all. It made it an easy decision for me to go with J & W, and they're the only roofing company I will ever recommend from now on. They got my project done very quickly and it took them less than a day to replace my roof. Save yourself the hassle and just go with James & Whitney.

I have had a wonderful experience with James and Whitney Co.- I have had two instances in the last few months with an issue on my roof due to crazy windstorms- the first was in December and Corey Foye met my husband the next morning at 7:00 am and took care of the problem. The second was today- big issue with potential exposure - Steve Clark dropped everything to come over and got us covered and repaired. He did it with a smile! Highly recommend- the customer service was above and beyond in both cases.

jesse, my project manager, was knowledgeable and reassuring, understanding how significant replacing my roof was for me. his team, whom performed the work, were outstanding. i've never seen a better flashing job on a chimney either ... or pipe reboot! the roof itself is a wow and the addition of the black edge is a great detail. detailed ... great word for the entire job ... from total roof coverage of ice and water shield to the architectural shingles to the edging ... and, perfect clean-up.

Jeromy was super friendly and was able to get an emergency tarp in place within a day. Jeromy has been very responsive and incredibly helpful as we battled with our insurance, providing me with all the needed documents requested by my insurance company. I can’t recommend this company enough! Jeromy is one of the most responsive and compassionate individuals I have ever dealt with which is very much appreciated during the stress of needing to replace your roof.

Great experience. I had a 10x3 foot section of shingles blow off my roof during the valentines wind storm. They were able to come do an estimate within a few days and scheduled the work within a week. During the job JD noticed the shingles were a slightly different shade and shape which would have caused the lines to be inconsistent. I had agreed to the color during the estimate not realizing it was slightly off so they could have easily completed the job with the wrong shingles and would have been my fault. JD picked up the right shingles personally and came to finish the job the next day. I appreciate the integrity and care JD took to make sure it was done right and matched perfectly. 10 out of 10 would recommend.

Mindy was great to explain how the roofing industry works and the difference between the different shingles.
She was the only person went up in the attic one end to the other end , checking for mold and moisture and also any leaks or cracks.
She was very detailed oriented.

We recently had the folks from James & Whitney do a repair on our roof. We were extremely pleased. Everything from start to finish went well and the communication was excellent. The process went so well that wwe have just asked them to help us with a siding project we need done.

I did not end up going through with selecting them for my project, but I was extremely impressed with the entire team from start to finish. Rick and Jordan came out to my property and they were beyond thorough in explaining potential solutions; it is obvious that they have a high level of expertise in the field. Mindy was also very helpful through the process and really went above and beyond to make sure I had every concern or question addressed. All in all, this company was fantastic and I will certainly keep them in mind for future projects!

Very professional and efficient. They replaced ridge boards under the shingles to make the structure more waterproof. Work was done within 2 days and quality of the craftsmanship seems high. This was in the Portland, ME area.

Hired J&W to redo our entire roof--sheathing and shingles. Very happy with the experience. Good people to work with in the office and on the ground. Final work seems to be excellent quality.

I cannot speak highly enough about James & Whitney Co. Rick initially came to my house to do a consult and estimate. He was wonderful to work with. He was professional, thorough and patient, answered all of my questions and just an overall delight to work with. He educated me about the work that needed to be done in a way that was helpful and respectful.

Ben, the project manager, was equally impressive. His crew arrived when he said they would, did a fantastic job on my roof in an impressively timely manner and cleaned up after themselves.

I wasn't able to meet with Ben in person after the work was done so we spoke on the phone. Ben was professional, patient and responsive. He answered all my questions and really explained things to me in a respectful manner.

If James & Whitney Co. offered other services such as general carpentry, finish interior work, etc., I would hire them in a second! I cannot recommend them highly enough. Hire them! You'll be SO glad you did!

UPDATE 3/26/25:

Since my original post, James & Whitney Company have continued to help me with new, additional roofs (it's a large house), fascia and gutters.

Everyone I've dealt with (Jeremy, Rick, Joe and Wyatt) have been so wonderful to work with; patient, thorough, communicative and they have educated me every step of the way so I understood what each of the projects entailed. They were timely, detail-oriented, clean and respectful. (Not once did I hear foul language and no cigarette butts on my lawn!) My roofs, fascia and gutters look amazing.

Their work is exceptional and I am an extremely happy customer!

I had worked with James and Whitney in the past and was excited about looking to them for a repair after a recent storm. They were my first call.
Initial response was quick and professional. However, once I was connected with Chris (part of the sales team?) I had to reach out more than once, on multiple occasions, just to receive the updates that were promised the day before. I got the sense that, albeit I may have had just a small repair inquiry, my requests were unimportant and at the whim of an unstable and unclear timetable.
Within first contact and when I had finally got a quote with them, I already had 2 other companies deliver quotes and time frames for work that were ultimately up to 3.5x lower than J&W.
I'm not sure if it was because I was a new customer, looking for a small repair, or just an accidental crack in an otherwise well run business, but I was unexpectedly disappointed with the lack of timeliness and exuberantly high and inflexible repair quote.
I would not say I don't recommend them, but they wont be my first call for future inquiries.

The team fixed a defect in another local company’s roofing installation from 2020. The entire team was, prompt, professional and courteous. This was a highly organized team of about 12 very hard working folks predominantly from Ecuador South America. They worked hard and they were meticulous in the quality of the work. They completed their task in 5 hours on a multifaceted roof. Their cleanup was amazing and thorough leaving nothing behind. The next day the large dumpsters that contained all the old asphalt shingles was removed. Again this is a highly organized company and the value of their work is high.
