Recommended Reviews
Jose and his team did a good job on my roof definitely recommend this roofing company my overall experience was 10/10
Mostly because of his good reviews we contracted with J. (Jose) Torres Roofing to replace our roof. What a mistake!
(The photo below, taken after he “finished” our house, shows how "honest" he ISN’T and the "good work" he DOESN’T do. I've asked him many times to "fix it" but - as in his response below, he defends it.)
Jose comes across as a very nice person. However, in our experience with him we learned to not trust what he says - he may or may not do it. And, don’t expect him to take responsibility for what he does or doesn’t do.
He said he would seal the corners of our rain gutter – he did.
He said, he would touch-up the paint on 10 small spots on our rain gutters. He talked several times about doing it and when - he never did it. This issue was not such a “big deal” by itself, and not in our contract, but it did expose his dishonesty and made us wonder if there were other things he may have also been dishonest about in replacing the roof, having phony reviews, etc.
Our contract said he was to replace the drip edge. He did, but also decided, by himself, to change the color - without our approval. Who could ever think that was a good idea? Our past drip edge color matched our fascia, rain gutter, wainscoting and house. We liked it and had never even considered changing it. But he did!!!
When new shingles were being put on the house we noticed the drip edge color was off- white, instead of beige, and did not match anything - ours had matched everything. We very much had liked it that way. It now looked like a big mistake.
I asked him why he had done this. He said his supplier only had 2 colors of drip edge and he did not have time to make even one phone call to another supplier to find the very common matching one. So, he chose what he thought was the best one of the two. He actually did something this consequential that was not in our contract nor had our approval.
We then expected any responsible contractor would be willing to help resolve an issue he created – and actually a responsible contractor probably would, but that's not him. Changing the drip edge after the new shingles were partly on did not seem very practical, so I suggested to him what seemed to be a reasonable and fair solution – he could spray paint the new drip edge the same color as the prior one. He refused, and offered no other solution, leaving it for us to deal with and pay for.
When dealing with a contractor, everyone has heard many times to put everything in writing and don’t pay the final settlement until everything is right. My experience with J. Roofing definitely confirms that, and to include not only what is to be done, but also what is not to be done.
Or, just find someone else.
NOTE
A few days before submitting this review I sent a draft of it to Jose as a courtesy to him. I also told him to let me know if there was anything still undone that he would like to do before I sent this and, when completed, I would be happy to revise it. I never heard from him which must indicate he's really proud of what he did, and didn't do.
PHOTO
This photo, taken after Jose was "finished", shows the matching rain gutter, fascia, soffit, and wainscot, which have been on the entire perimeter of the house since it was built. The drip edge also matched all that before he replaced it, without permission. The piece of whitish color drip edge in the upper left is the same as what now goes all around our house. It neither matches nor integrates with anything. Because Jose chose not to make a phone call to get the right color drip edge, and then refused to paint it, we now have the only house we know of that the drip edge isn't the same color as either the facia, rain gutter, or the solid color roof. And it looks bad.
The photo also shows 3 of the 10 gutter corners he said several times he would paint, and never did.
JTorres roofing was amazing to work with. They gave me a very detailed and thorough bid. The crew that came and did the job were extremely quick and clean. They were totally professional in the way they conducted their business also went above and beyond with the finished product. I will totally recommend anyone that needs roofing done. Give JTorres. Roofing a call you won’t regret it. Thank you so much, Jose you and your company are the best.
