HPM Building Supply - Lawai

On Friday, March 21, 2025, around 10 a.m., during a weeklong visit to Kauai’i, we took a drive from Lihue to the Maha’ulepu Heritage Trail in a rental car. On the highway we got behind about 5 vehicles who were stacked behind this (photo) truck going about 45mph. That was fine, since we were in no hurry.

But when the truck driver reached a passing zone and vehicles began passing him, he noticeably and drastically sped up, almost causing an accident. After leaving the passing zone he slowed back down.

Eventually, the other vehicles ahead of us turned onto side roads and we were directly behind him. At a straightaway, I edged out to see if I could pass, at which point he forcibly swerved into the oncoming lane as if to block my vision. Now shaken, I backed off, but my passenger took the picture as we turned at this intersection so at some point we could report this incident. (After reporting it to Young Brothers—whose name is on the trailer—they replied that it would’ve actually been an HPM driver as it’s their logo on their green cab.)

This being our only experience with HPM, I am not impressed. Perhaps, sometime after I post this review, I will be able to revisit this 1-star rating. But so far, HPM has not responded to my report made to their website.

I also reported this to the NTSB’s website. We’ve lost loved ones on the mainland due to drivers like this, which is why I will not relent until HPM replies to me.
