Situation: My homeowners insurance is increasing this year. My roof is from 2014. It was brought to my attention that I may have a hard time finding insurance companies willing to insure my home due to the age of the roof (as the roof is expected to be good for around 8-10 years). It was recommended to me to consult at least two Roofing companies to evaluate the state of my roof before setting out to find a better homeowners insurance provider.
I was already relatively bummed out that I was going to have to do another Lord of the Rings-style epic adventure to find a new insurance provider. I may have winced when I was told to start a warm-up adventure securing a roofer and evaluation.
I nailed down two roofers to contact. They both came highly recommended and frequently used. One of them was Honor Roofing and the other was, well, for this review we'll call the tsk, tsk. I called tsk,tsk first at 11:00a. They asked my needs and address and told me they could have someone out by around 3:30p. I called Honor Roofing afterwards, they were also able to come and evaluate my roof same day (they came around 12:30). Both were kind on the phone and showed up on time; however, Honor was already showing up here. They sent me information on the last storm in my area and discussed over the phone what they planned to do and what they were going to evaluate. Tsk,tsk, just said we'll see ya soon.
Since Honor came first (to evaluate the roof), we'll go over their visit. Carlton, with Honor, showed up to my home on time. He introduced himself and his coworker and explained that he would be getting on my roof, taking pictures, and would review his findings with me upon completion. When he was done, he told me my roof looked good and currently didn't need to be replaced at this time. Now, it wasn't all good news. There are some issues that will need to be addressed (one vent was peeling away from the roof on its corner, some breakdown related to other vents previously installed on the house). He advised that he was fixing a runaway vent corner today FOR FREE and while the other issues aren't awesome, they weren't emergent issues. Carlton SHOWED me all the issues he located via pictures taken on his phone and EXPLAINED why they were issues. I greatly value having the "method to the madness" explained to me. He took his time and made sure I understood everything before leaving. I mean, you're already not getting a roof out of this but you're still fixing one of my problems right then AND you took the time to educate me. I don't know about you, but that's just such a big deal to me! No business to be had and still providing AWESOME service! I didn't know what to do with myself, honestly. Felt like my lucky day!
Tsk,tsk showed up when they said they would. The gentleman was nice and evaluated the roof. When he was done he told me that there was damage "all over" my roof and he didn't think I would have any trouble getting my insurance to cover a new roof. He did not show me any pictures or discuss what he found. He did tell me that I just needed to call my insurance and tell them and when my insurance adjuster was scheduled to come out to call him so they could meet up with the adjuster and he would show them what he found. He did say I would be receiving a report of his findings. I have not received it yet, but it's still the day of the eval so I don't think that's a 'ding' on him.
Not really much else to say. Carlton with Honor was informative, punctual, friendly, and HONEST. Tsk,tsk was punctual and friendly...and that's it. I know I'm happy I don't have to replace my roof right now, but, even if I did, I know Carlton would have shown and explained everything to me right then. I felt like we were working together and discussing my roof and needs vs the other just felt like pizza delivery (just fast dash off with no real information ESPECIALLY when you're telling me I'll be needing a new roof!
I will absolutely be using them when it's time!
