Just finished a consultation/estimate to replace existing central air system with a heat pump system with Zane. He provided estimates for two different systems, breaking out the costs for each part and answering many questions along the way. We are close to completing the research phase of this project, and have not yet made a final decision, but the estimates were quite reasonable and competitive with other contractors I've interviewed. Zane's obvious pride in his company and his job inspire confidence that we won't be disappointed with Home Upgrade Specialist.

I had a major flood in my basement and lost both furnaces. I called a few
companies but the personal attention and care from Simon at Home Upgrade Specialist was beyond great. We spoke about my needs and he reminded me that now would be the best time to add Air conditioning. Since I have a duplex, I know AC was something tenants seriously want.

I needed to have my HVAC serviced and my thermostat put back online. Daniel Hairston was the Tech who arrived on time, was professional, and quickly serviced the HVAC and got everything working again. I was very pleased with the service he provided.

We have had Home Upgrade Specialist install a heat pump, re-roof and install a solar system. The work was good (the jury is out on the roof until it rains). The people were courteous and respectful. They are a little pricey but they had the products and services we wanted. At times the communication could have been a bit more proactive.

Andrew A. from Home Upgrade Specialist came to service our AC. He was on time, very knowledgeable and very professional. We would happy use HUS again and request Andrew for the service call!

I scheduled an appointment for Saturday June 29th for maintenance and for the specialist to check whether they could move my outside condenser unit to a new spot. Come June 29th, the specialist comes to my home on time, but then says I'm here to fix a broken AC unit right? I respond and say no, I just need maintenance and consultation. He then says that he can't do that because he's only there for service repair and promptly leaves.

After this happened, I immediately called a home upgrade specialist representative and she said that the transcript and recording of my last conversation with them clearly stated that I needed maintenance and consultation and that they were sorry for wasting my time. They said they would call me back Monday to fix this. It is now Tuesday and they never reached back out to me.

If you like having people waste your time and provide no service then feel free to use home upgrade specialist. Otherwise I would recommend going with any other company.

UPDATE - Aiden called me to confirm the rescheduled time and to fix the problem. I am changing this review to 3 stars for now and will see how the appointment goes on 7/6 before updating this review further.

UPDATE 2 - Andrew came by and did a great job providing a cost effective solution to my problem. He set up a pump that directed the water to the other drain hole. I am updating my review to 5 stars for how they handled the initial issue and for the actual job Andrew did.

We replaced our gas furnace with a Daikin Fit. Excellent service, reasonable prices. All the technicians are friendly and professional. We've had the unit for about 2 months. Love. It. No more blast on and off, the Daikin Fit keeps the air at a fairly consistent temperature. One suggestion: If your current system is stronger in some rooms than others, have dampers put on.

I had called a different HVAC company to fix my split unit AC, and their technician recommended I throw away my entire system and buy a new one. glad I called Home Upgrade Specialist before I did that... they sent Raymond, who tracked down the problem (it was a tricky one) and got me the parts under warranty (I didn't even know I had a factory warranty). he fixed it right up and saved my unit. thanks guys.

Greg is a very nice guy and told me he adjusted a Ptrap on PVC draining the unit , refilled 1lb of Freon for $200 ( very high !) when the going rate is $50-160 for a pound . He was going to charge me $129 for a summer tuneup visit with no emergency, but last time your service person Andrew came out 9.22.22 the tuneup was just $65 ( double the price ?') so he lowered to $89 . I have stayed loyal to you folks since Covid and may take up your good mini split install estimate . But I won't call again if the tuneup is not $89 or less . I have been hustled by a few other companies ( them wanting to replace a perfectly good top American Standard unit that is longer lasting than the new ones or hosing and cleaning the unit with a hose and charging me $600) all AC. Repair guys rarely have been on my roof for more than 15 minutes . So please be fair going forward.

Ray was amazing. Very professional, virtuous, kind, and on time. He diagnosed the issue we were having quickly and was able to do the very difficult repairs without a problem, even though he had to work in a very small space to do so.

Zane came to my home for an on-site evaluation regarding reroofing with solar. He was responsive and easy to communicate with. He spent time answering all my questions. An estimate was provided quickly, and he was available for follow-up questions.

Tait came out and provided a thorough inspection of the property and gave me options for an upgraded heating system. He is AMAZING! He is the SOLE reason why I chose HUS (assuming that everyone else would be like him). Tate was super responsive, experienced and communicates very well. He gave me
I got estimates from 3 companies. The price was mid-range, so it wasn't a decision made solely on cost, but again, I picked HUS because of the education he gave me and the amazing customer service that he provided.
From the estimate to the installation appointment was pretty quick. This is where everything starts to go downhill.
- I had to call a week later asking when the balance was due.
- I was never told the balance was received
- The tech was late the day of the appointment. Arrival window was 10-12pm. I called at 11:45 asking if the tech was en route. He apparently didn't have all the parts he needed and went to the hardware store. Really?!?! He showed up late. I'm pretty sure if my tenant wasn't home to open the door I would have had to reschedule, but HUS showing up late I didn't get any compensation.
- The tech did not install the mini-split where Tate had told me it would go. NO ONE called to tell me. I called Tate. Apparently no one told him either?!?!
- The install went well past the estimated time of completion, understandably so because the tech arrived late.
- The LADBS final inspection was scheduled and we immediately failed because HUS pulled the wrong permit. It's a triplex which is a commercial license, they pulled a residential.
- Scheduled w/ LADBS again and again. I asked if they tech needed to be on site. I was told 'no, it's not necessary'
- LADBS showed up, and we failed again! Because their tech was not there, in addition to 5 other violations. Maybe my expectation are high, but hiring a company with amazing reviews and licensed, I would expect that they know what they are doing and pull the correct permits.
- The work was done 10/24. It's now 1/31 and we are still screwing around with the inspection and now around of repairs because it wasn't done correctly.
- I had to ask for a final paid invoice. I received an invoice with absolution no content and just a $0 balance owed. I really question how professional they are??? The people are on the phone have been nice, but concisely ignoring my request to be compensated for their lack of knowledge, professionalism and wasting my time and my tenant's time. It's really frustrating that I'm still dealing with this 3 months later. And how know who much longer this will last......
- I constantly have to follow-up with them too.

I hope HUS knows how lucky they are to have Tait and I do hope they get their act together. Maybe I'm just the unfortunate one to get such bad service, but it's getting tiresome and annoying to pay so much money to get such poor service, poor communication and follow-up and lack of knowledge regarding a simple mini-split install and permit pulling.

I purchased the 25 point maintenance HVAC inspection service. The tech, Elia was superb. He went the extra mile to deliver excellent customer service. The challenge however is I purchased this HVAC minisplit system from them 2 years ago and it did not require half of those 25 inspection points like the 1 inch filter, gas line inspection etc.
So I feel like they overcharged me. Their regular onsite tech visit is 89.00 and I’m going to reach out and request a discount since I did not get the full 25 inspection points service.
I think they should have known they were overselling me. Actually I should have know I guess;) I didn’t realize that those inspection points were for central air systems. buyer Beware.
I did not buy the Upgrade Club membership for 250.00 however.

Great experience. Timely help and caring technicians. Only note is that they are closed on weekends so if you have an emergency you may need to wait a few days to get it sorted out.

Taking a moment to thank Home Upgrade and their tech Elia for their excellent service over the years. We first connected through the city of LA AC Optimization program where they came out to our home to check our HVAC system and install a free Nest smart thermostat. Our AC has been perfect since!

Our building had the roof replaced so we called them out to check our coolant levels and Sue enough the roof contractors didn’t top off the coolant so Elia covered that too for us and I’ve recommended Home Upgrade Specialists to my neighbors for their needs too. All great reports across the board.

Office has always been easy to schedule with and they arrive promptly as scheduled. Great follow up on service and I just got a call from their QA person to check in on the level of service. Nice to find a business that improves with time and is solid across the board! Highly recommend!!

Background:
I contracted homeupgradespecliasts for a new AC installation. I did my due diligence beforehand and was impressed by how competitive their offer was , on top of the fact that they offered all the top brands. I also wanted to do everything by the code and unlike some other companies they actually encouraged applying for city permits. They filled the applications quickly and from the day I signed the contract till the installation there was only a few days delay.

Day of:
I wanted to install the AC on the roof so I needed a crane. They scheduled everything. Everyone was on time and everything was schedule to a T. Crane showed up on time, the crew were professional and courteous and everything was finished in just one day!

Inspections and rebates:
The inspections and rebates is were their customer service really shined. It took a few rounds of scheduling to get the inspector to come to my house and verify everything. It took almost ONE YEAR for my rebate application to get processed. During this time, they were very responsive to my calls and in multiple instances provided and updated the documentation that the city had asked for.
5 star customer service here. My only recommendation for the team is monitoring the corp email more frequently. Having said that, my phone calls were always answered promptly!

This is an amazing company, very reliable and honest, I needed work done on my HAVC system, had several company come out but I felt that they didn’t take the time to really inspect my unit I felt that the other companies where just trying to sell me a new unit.

I called Home upgrade specialist to get the LADWP AC Optimization program done at my house, someone on Nextdoor app was happy with their service and they were highly recommended.
The specialist Sam came right on time. He was very professional and even wore shoe covers every time he came inside the house.
He checked the unit outside, check the attic, change the filter, check temperatures and as part of the program, replaced my thermostat with the nest.
I was skeptical and thought they might want to sell me something else, but to my surprise, there was nothing more to it. A happy customer.

I recently had an issue with my central air unit not cooling my condo. I found their profile on Yelp, while doing a search. Karen was quick to respond to my request for a quote, and was able to get me an appointment with a technician the next day. Greg was our technician, he was so friendly and professional, and arrived on time. Greg was wonderful. He was so knowledgeable and helpful. He took the time to explain everything to me, and I must say that I learned a lot in such a short time. It turned out to be an issue with Freon, my unit was empty. He made an appt with me to return the next day, to make sure that it wasn’t leaking Freon. No leak, and the A/C is running very well. I will be contacting the company in a couple of months regarding the LADWP Optimization program that he suggested to me. The price was really reasonable. Excellent service. very professional. I have two split system units that needed service and one had a freon leak.they came and serviced both machines, refilled the freon, fixed the leaks, changed the filters and installed two new Nest thermostats and all of this was FREE. Yes not one red cent. They did this all under an Ladwp program and there was no hidden charges or anything. Extremely pleased with this company
