High Tops Roofing

UPDATE—-
I gave Hightops a great review when they did my job in 2021, and I still stand by the work they did.
BUT, I was having an issue with a drip edge that I asked Dan to come out and look at it. He said he would come out and ONLY charge me half price of $150, to evaluate.
I would think that when you spend over $10,000 with a company, and you have a concern a few years later, that they would come out as a courtesy, and see what’s going on. I thought i had a warranty against workmanship for at least 5 years!
So you can say I was very disappointed that Dan would not come out, without charging me, to look at my issue.
I don’t think I’m wrong for thinking this way.

I contacted the siding company, they came out at no charge to evaluate the situation. They did tack down the facia, and informed me that something was still going on at the roof line. They said I should contact the roofing company to evaluate, since that was something the siding coming did not touch.
That’s when I contacted Dan, and he told me he will charge me $150 to evaluate the situation.

We have a home that has a very old roof. We are preparing a remodel and know the roof needs to be replaced. The storms over the weekend had water running into our home. We contacted Dan and he was able to make some temporary repairs that will get us thru till all the design and replacement work can be completed. He is prompt, fairly priced, and most of all our home is dry inside.

Chimney area still leaks...last summer called him to fix a leak around my chimney. He quoted me $650 then charged $750. Spent 1/2 an hour on the roof...which would've been OK but the chimney still leaks! when I asked him to return he wanted another $375. I told him I would give him a poor review because my chimney is still leaking... he threatened legal action! very strange guy, unprofessional and cannot solve problems. Spoke as if roofing is super complicated...My husband although older now was a roofer in his 20's...and it should've been a very simple repair but Dan didn't bring flashing nor shingles, he just used goop. He estimated the job, took the cash, but did not fix the leak.

3/20/23 Dan saw your response, simply untrue and what do you have against Fox Lake? We moved here on the chain from Lake Geneva.

4/18/23 finally hooking up the vents (that Dan installed to our two bathroom exhaust fans). My husband realized Dan rendered the vents inoperable because he pushed in the screen so that the flap stays open and rain has been getting an all winter long. thanks again, Dan!

Dan really helped in a tough situation. I had recently changed my roof and soon after that there was a leak. The roofing company was not at all helpful. But Dan came in and explained the situation and applied a quick fix for the problem. Hopefully this should sort out the leak and assured me that during the spring we can take a look at it again If needed.

I had called Dan based off a referral. He answered right away and was able to price out a roof replacement remotely due to a bind I was in. He sent over a crew the next day to complete the job and were efficient and got 98% of the roof done before the rain. Everything got completed the next day to my satisfaction. He was awesome to work with and very responsive to any questions throughout the project. He’s very thorough in troubleshooting or having an answer for any questions you may have concerns about. The fine comb detail is what separates him apart. I personally would not hesitate to use him for future services like siding or windows.

Dan did great work on my roof. Was promptly on time, took photos of his inspection, got a roof leak resolved, and even knocked out some preventative maintenance. Would definitely hire High Tops again!

We called Dan to inquire about being able to fix our wind damaged roof that had tiles come off. Our roof is only 3 years old and after the company that installed it was giving us the run around we called Dan. He came the same day to repair it. He communicated with us to make sure we knew what to expect, took a picture so we could see the repairs, SAME DAY! We were thrilled and will keep his number for the future.

Dan was recommended to us by a neighbor; he was very personable, efficient, and straightforward. He addressed the problems we had more than sufficiently, and was very pleasant to work with. Highly recommend for all of your roofing needs!

Dan was very punctual and he was able to assess the problem and provide both short fix and a better long term fix. He is really good to work with.

Dan came to review some winter damage to our roof and explained the situation clearly. We ended up getting a new roof with some design changes to the soffit in order to prevent future problems. We were very pleased with the work that was done and the team was superb. I would definitely recommend them.

All I wanted was an estimate, but Dan said it was a quick fix and it was. He didn't try to sell me on major roof replacement and I appreciate that. I've requested a quote on other "construction" and will definitely keep this business in mind when I need a new roof.

Hired Hightops roofing to replace a skylight, and to inspect low spots around the skylight. Dan, (the owner) arrived to do the work, but upon inspection, Dan found that half of the plywood on the roof was rotted due to lack of baffles, and in-proper air circulation.
Right there on the spot Dan gave me an estimate for tearing off half my roof down to the rafters, installing baffles, new plywood, water shield, felt and shingles. He was very professional explaining what caused the problem and the process to fix it the right way. Since I had a hole in my roof Dan said he could get to my job in a week. But to my surprise, Dan managed to get me into the schedule in just a few days!
He was able to fast track the permit, supplies, and his workers very efficiently.
His crew showed up on time and got right to work. Greg was the site manager and was a pleasure to work with. He answered all my questions, and throughly explained the process.
As the crew was preparing to re-shingle the front part of my roof, they discovered that I had rotted wood there as well. So I made the decision for Dan to tear off the front of my roof down to the rafters and replace all the plywood, add baffles, etc.... just like he did on the back of my roof.
Dan had to make an emergency run back to the lumber yard to pick up some more plywood for the front of my roof. Unfortunately, dealing with my emergency, Dan mentioned that he was going to be late for another appointment, but he couldn’t leave his crew sitting idle waiting for more plywood as my roof was open to the elements.
Dan prides himself on being on time, upfront, and professional, and I could see it in his face that he didn’t like to tell someone that he was going to be an hour late. But in his line of work, unexpected problems pop up more times that not, and he hopes that people can be understanding of that.
In the end Dan, Greg, and his entire crew at Hightops Roofing, did a wonderful job from top to bottom.
Everyone was professional, responsive, attentive to detail, explained everything to me, and they did a great job cleaning up all the debris and garbage.

First and foremost, it took a while for Dan to accept the request to assess the roof to a home we intended to purchase as part of the inspection which I made clear when booking the appointment. Moving forward, the roof repair would be scheduled for completion prior to our closing in a month either by the sellers or ourselves. Dan confirmed a 10:30am appointment. It took a lot to coordinate all parties involved to be present at the inspection which I made clear to him: the seller's real estate agent, our agent, the sellers, and us. This morning at 10:35am, my husband called Dan and left a voicemail to find out his ETA. No answer, and no call back. I then called and left a voicemail to find out his ETA at 10:38am, asking to be called back. At 10:45am, I receive a text from Dan indicating he's running late and had to complete plywood replacement order on a roof being 45 minutes to 1 hour away. I thought to myself, "How does this concern me?" A good way to justify would have been texting an apology, and being held up by another job. I texted back, "Thanks, cancel!" "Very unprofessional." I called the company number on the Google listing to ask if this was normal protocol. The number linked directly to Dan because when my call was picked up, I asked, "Is this Dan?" He said, "Yes." I said, "Is this normal protocol to be late, but then when you have scheduled an appointment, you indicate being 45 minutes to an hour away? He said no, and that he was tied up. An apology from the get go would have gone a better direction. Not justification via text, but a response with a phone call. (See photo of text).

Honestly such a good business. I called Dan to do a roof replacement and he answered me RIGHT away and was so kind! He scheduled me right away and showed up on time and I had no issues and LOVED what he did. Very kind man, kind business, 100% recommend to EVERYONE! He was also very professional. I recommend this kind, amazing, AWESOME business.

I had a leaky ceiling when it rained! I was worried I was looking at some major repairs. After two other roofing companies gave me the run around, Dan at high tops answered and was at my house within the hour. He inspected my roof and realized my repair would be basic. He came prepared with material to seal the leak and problem was solved! I appreciate his honesty and not trying to sell me more than I needed! It’s been a few weeks of rain and no more leak! Highly recommended.

Lost some shingles with high winds (no leaks) late on Saturday. Dan was out on Tuesday. Everything was done professionally and cost was reasonable. I'm glad I saved a bundle of shingles from when the roof was done 15yrs ago (30 yr shingle), especially since my GAF/ELK Grande shingles were discontinued 6 yrs ago.
