Harts Roofing are great and easy to work with. They came out the same day we called to give us a quote and put us on the schedule. They had all the work done in one day. The quality is outstanding. They made the house and garage look new again. I highly recommend them.

During a remodel ten years ago, we made the mistake of having our general contractor pro-actively replace our 40-year-old, non-leaking roof. Big mistake, as he removed all the shingles on the roof, put down a membrane, then spent months slowly having his “best” roofing man occasionally do the re-roofing job. We had five leaks during the process, requiring repainting of ceilings and nine leaks total, requiring additional repairs, over time. The general contractor did not use much in the way of starter strips, ice and water-barriers, drip edges, or specialized starter or ridge/cap shingles. Though the general contractor’s roof had 40-year shingles installed, the plywood’s exposure to the sun for a prolonged period, as well as the shoddy roofing installation techniques, left us with a unreliable roof from the beginning.
At the ten year point we decided to replace the roof again, reached out to four local roofers, two didn’t respond, one inspected the roof to give an estimate, never provided one, but Matt from Hart’s Roofing and Construction (HRC) came, inspected our roof, answered all our questions and provided a detailed estimate including some upgrades we requested. We decided to move forward with Matt and HRC and are glad we did. From our initial request for information to completion, Matt’s communication was exemplary and we also had outstanding communication with Rick. Their crews are experts in their field and capable of any size residential job or challenge thrown their way, which was fortunate for us, as the prolonged sun exposure and leaks resulting from our gen-contractor’s chaotic roof installation resulted in extensive damage to the plywood roof deck, which created a sizeable additional replacement requirement. But HRC’s crew was not only up to the task, but accomplished the additional burden to the highest standards possible. Their after-installations clean-up was also thorough. HRC’s expertise not only ultimately resulted in us having a beautiful, durable, long-term warranted roof, but the all pop-ups were resolved without drama or delay, which minimized the anxiety which can easily present itself when a large and costly project gets larger and more costly. The family aspect of HRC’s business was evident in the personalized and attentive care we received from both Matt, Rick and their crew which installed our new roof, gave us a constant feeling of confidence and ultimately ended up giving us the best-looking roof in our neighborhood. We are very happy with every aspect of our interactions with Matt, Rick, as well as HRC’s crew and could not be more impressed with the appearance or the detail-orientated integrity of our new HRC roof.

Excellent communication and execution with Matt and the Hart’s crew on our roof project. We ran into some challenges with the old structure of our garage and its original framing.

We hired harts to do an extensive reshingling and paint job on our house a couple years ago. They were professional, fairly priced and did excellent work. We have a highly visible house from a busy road and get compliments on the house all the time. Years later the work still looks amazing. I would highly recommend them for any job if you’re looking for one of the best options on the island.

I had a great experience with Matt and the crew at Hart's. It started when I called to have them look into an issue with rain water coming into my fireplace. Though this was not an inexpensive solution, Matt and his team found several repairs that needed to take place. Matt did a good job communicating each issue and why it needed to be resolved. Now after several hard rainstorms, my fireplace has remained dry!

Would not recommend. Emailed them to see if they service the NK area and could come look at our deck. Went a week without a response. Followed up a week and a half later and they said they could send someone to our house. Rescheduled the first visit because of rain. The second visit they were 30 minutes late and it was only after I texted our mutual friend who recommended them that I got a response and they said they could call or text because they were on another job. When they did show up, they seemed knowledgeable on what it would take to repair our deck and said they wanted to come back with a partner to do some more inspections and then would be in touch with an estimate/invoice. Cut to 2 weeks later and I get is a text at 7:30pm saying “Number is 58k. If that sounds in your budget. I will write ✍️ up a contract.” I asked for an email with the invoice/cost breakdown because that seemed high to me. That was 2 weeks ago and still no email, text or call.

The finished product looks nice, however, the journey of 6+ months to get a skylight replacement is simply unacceptable. In March, my condo building got a roof redone using Harts (I won’t go into that experience either as it was a nightmare as well, but not fully at the company’s expense). During this time, the team at Hart’s pulled out one of my unit’s skylights. I received a picture via text message of the skylight broken on the road saying “its rotted, you need a new one”. Stuck between a rock and a hard place, (and wanting the whole thing to just be over) I told them to send me a quote for the skylight replacement. Fast forward a few weeks, I was told the day that they were coming to install my new skylight. The team comes and 1. Does not let me know they were even here, just pops onto my roof 2. Opens the box to find a broken skylight. I am told another 4-6 weeks until the replacement comes. 5 MONTHS LATER and my new skylight has now arrived (Riverhead Building Supply will also be getting a review for the poor treatment of escalation on the issue). Now, I was told that because I have waited SO long for my new skylight to come in that it would be installed within 48 hours. One. Month. Later…its finally finished. The measurements that the owners took somehow were incorrect as the bottom of the skylight was too big. So, they had to cut out drywall and then replace it. Again, this took a month (and a half) to get done. Along with being told that they were coming at a certain time and then getting that pushed out or not being able to drop plans that I’ve had for months, there were TWO times that the team cleaned up after themselves (don’t get me started on the amount of nails I still find in my backyard from when the roof was replaced). There’s literally chunks of drywall mess on my walls that were just left for me to figure out how to clean up right now.
My suggestions for the team next time they run into a situation like this:
1. You are nothing without your customer. Ask them if a date works when scheduling, do not tell them. If they ask to use a different vendor for a product after waiting an unacceptable amount of time, return their email. Show respect and clean up after yourself.
2. Have a backup in case someone cannot show to the job site. I do not understand why only one person could work on the drywall for my job.
3. Keep your word. 48 hrs and over a month are a huge difference.
Simple to say that this experience has me never using any contractor on Aquidneck Island again.

Horrible experience. No attention to detail. Delays. Unfinished work. Paint all over my foundation. A total mess of a work site with no cleanup on the regular. Damaged my floors . Begging for payment when the work is unfinished. Didn’t even check the code on building a railing which is now cutting into my roof bc of the lack of attention to detail and inability to google simple things like minimum railing height. Save yourself the headache and potential lawsuit. A shame really bc Rick is a nice guy…. Just doesn’t pay attention and wants to get to the next job.

I usually have fears about entrusting the right one which makes skeptical to select someone when doing a home repair. It’s so hard to find a good contractor let alone one that goes above and beyond but that’s exactly what Matt did for me. He walked me through the entire process and answered any questions I had. We had a slow roof leak from an unknown source and called Hart's. They actually answered the phone and connected me with Matt within an hour. Matt came over the same day and determined that there were issues with two chimney flashings. He gave us a reasonable estimate and Hart's completed the job within the next two days. They also repaired the damaged ceiling for us! I will definitely use Hart's again. They were very nice and very professional to work with.

I recently purchased a home in Newport, RI, and my home required immediate replacement of the roof and most of the siding. Rick Hart was one of the contractors I had come out to provide a quote, and ended up being the only reasonable quote to complete all of the work needed on my house. Additionally, we wanted to simultaneously construct a front porch expansion, which Rick was willing to provide a quote for and commit to the work. We were able to get on their schedule without much delay, and the re-roofing took literally only one day once they began. The siding work progressed at a steady pace, and Rick’s crew, including Foreman Nick, timed everything as best as possible, throughout different material and weather delays. In the end, we could not be happier with how everything came out. The house is now weathertight, has beautiful cedar shingles, and a massive, amazing front porch that we will undoubtedly spend many days and nights enjoying. Rick and his crew maintain constant, honest communication, and I would recommend them to anyone looking for a re-roof, gutter work, re-siding, or general construction needs.
