Recommended Reviews
We chose Gunner CT based on the reviews seen here and their low pricing. Unfortunately, according to the VP of Operations (Jacqueline), they did not send out their "A-Team" initially and our experience was incredibly poor. To keep this review short, here are a few of the issues we had:
1) Project managers did not listen to us: our original project manager, Chris, completely ignored us when we asked them to cover our pool before starting the job. This resulted in us finding nails all over the pool area and under the pool cover.
2) Low cleaning standards: Gunner barely put up any tarps and did not keep track of garbage as the project progressed. This resulted in little pieces of plastic and nails all over the yard. They also don't feel the need to throw away general garbage, as we have found condiment packets, plastic tips from silicone tubes, napkins, grinding wheels etc. They attempted to clean the property multiple times, but one of the project managers, Anthony, felt that this was a normal part of construction. When we had Brown Roofing (HIGHLY recommend them) do our last home's roof, we only found 6 nails and the house looked like a circus tent when they were working. Unfortunately, we are still finding nails and other garbage in the yard from Gunner's work. Gunner did provide a small reimbursement for this; Anthony told us that it was only $100, but he had pushed to get $500 off of our bill.
3) No standard work expectations: when we initially had problems, Victor came out to asses our issues and made comments about being surprised that the roof came out so good. He also explicitly stated that most of the crews don't do the flashing the way our crew did and was very happy with the way it looked.
4) Poor communication: Chris had a tendency to either not respond or only provide very short responses that didn't answer our question. The comments about work made by Victor and about the quality of employees made by Jacqueline were also alarming.
5) They forgot to install structural support for the skylights they removed. This is one of the scarier issues we had, since I would not have noticed it if I wasn't a contractor, myself. We noticed that when they roofed over the holes from the removed skylights, there was no structural support installed which could have lead to the roof sagging in those places. Gunner did come out and fix it, but I was alarmed that it could have gone unaddressed. They also did not disclose this part of the project to the town inspector, so he likely would not have caught this.
Due to our experience, I am not confident in the quality of this installation and hope that the warranty holds up. I would have much rather paid more to an experienced company to complete the job correctly the first time. Instead, we had people in and out of the house for almost two weeks, fixing the problems that Chris created.
Overall good experience. Work was completed efficiently when on site and they complied with paperwork requirements necessary for our funding sources. Communication during the process could have been better regarding when crews would be on site. Price was a bit on the higher end, but houses look great upon completion.
It was truly a pleasure working with everyone at Gunner Roofing. From the sales team to the project manager(Victor) everyone was extremely accessible. They did a great job on the roof at a reasonable price. I plan on using them on other projects and would recommend to others.
