Firstly, 5 stars aren't enough for the absolutely outstanding service Matt and his crew have provided. Matt is unbelievably knowledgeable and so kind, not to mentiona ton of fun to shoot the you know with, but the foreman, I don't remember the last time i met such a decent set of people. Matt and Will, you have been just amazing. Thank you for making what started out as a bleak situation into an awesome experience.

We appreciated how focused Great Basin Solar was on the aesthetics of the installation. Their team was very organized and made the entire process very smooth.

Got a notice that my solar inverter it was not working. My solar install company had gone out of business so I had to find a new company. Checked out a couple of local companies online and chose to call Great Basin Solar. I am so glad that I did! Spoke with Matt and he gathered some info from me to transfer our solar account from the defunct Titan to Great Basin. Matt was very thorough, very personable, a true credit to the Great Basin company. He let me know of the timing I could expect for the transfer of our solar account to them and then his possible subsequent steps to restore our solar inverter. A few hours later, I received a call from Matt stating that we were up and running again as he was able to reset us on line. After my previous solar company went out of business, I lost access to the site where I could monitor the efficiency of my solar. In my opinion, after conducting a thorough research on the pros and cons of installing solar panels and what company to choose to install the panels I decided to contract with Great Basin Solar. I am happy that I chose Great Basin Solar. From the first interview with Travis Miller, owner of Great Basin Solar I was impress with his thoroughness in explaining the entire process including price, installation, solar product, securing various permits and what was expected of me during the process. Travis, fully answered all of my questions and then some. Each phase of work was done as explained and in a timely manner. For example, the installation crew arrive at my home as agreed and installed the 28 panels in two days. Travis and his staff coordinated the inspection dates with the required government and local energy inspectors to inspect the installation job. Travis was on site during each inspection. Both inspections passed on the first test. During each phase as I mention earlier, Travis and his staff walked me through the process and prepared me for the next step. Once I was given the "green light" Travis personally walked me through the process to energize the panels. Once done, the transformation was seamless. Its has been a week since being totally on solar power and I love the energy performance my home is receiving. If you are in the market to go solar, I recommend contacting Great Basin Solar. Great Basin Solar installed a state-of-the-art photovoltaic system at my residence. A team of skilled technicians professionally installed the system. From this point forward, Great Basin will monitor the health of my system via a hard-wired Internet connection. I will also use the same well-designed, visual monitoring software. Overall, the experience was positive.

Great Basin Solar is AMAZING! Every single person that we worked with at this company was knowledgeable, communicative, friendly and easy-to-work with. The whole process went much more quickly than I expected and the system was up and running without a hitch! We would highly recommend Great Basin Solar to anyone in the Reno area looking to go green and switch to solar!

This is a mixed review. We chose Great Basin Solar because of other reviews, as the prices between companies were comparable. The installers were great, and finished in one day. A month later, I started calling to get it online, and they admitted they dropped the ball, and that it was in "the wrong pile". After three more calls, it was inspected, and online.

Another issue arose with payment. Our proposal was based on our paying the balance without financing. We paid the first 6K by check, but wanted to put the remaining 15K on a credit card. Travis told me we'd have to pay $500 extra to do so. I was stunned, and felt this was a "bait and switch". Travis threatened to have me arrested if I wrote a review that wasn't complimentary. He also threatened not to service the equipment, even though they are contractually obligated to do so.

Tried doing my solar project a year ago with Tesla. They were awful and basically quit on my job. Fast forward a year, and still soured over my Tesla experience, my buddy recommended Great Basin Solar, and had nothing but positive things to say about his experience with them. Trusting my friend, I reached out to Great Basin Solar and within minutes of speaking to the owner, Travis, I knew this would be different. 2 hours after going over every detail of the project, and answering all of my questions, I was sold and hired Great Basin Solar right then. 2.5 months later, my project is completely done, and my system was turned on today.

Great Basin Solar was FANTASTIC! Price was extremely reasonable, no attempts at upselling and customer service was STUPENDOUS! Travis and Matt were terrific and always kept me informed of everything, every step of the way. HIGHLY RECCOMEND!

Our original solar installer went out of business. I called Great Basin solar and within a couple of days they had my equipment replaced and functional again. Best customer service I have received in years.

I would like to leave the greatest of recommendations for Great Basin Solar. We had a system installed 2 years ago by Titan only to be orphaned when they went out of business. Having a problem I set out to contact a company to provide service. After 6 hours on the phone searching for a company and getting recordings telling me they only take calls from installers. I spoke with Matt at GB. Matt was a live person and knew what to do. He was able to set up a remote check of my system to determine the problem. In a matter of 1 hour we had a plan and service appointment to make the repairs I needed to get up and running again. The whole team at GB has been amazing. If I could I would give them 6 stars. We invited three companies do presentations on their solar offerings and we were most impressed with Great Basin Solar. They have real people who talk to you on the phone and they follow up efficiently with every task. They installed our system earlier than projected and today we are celebrating our first day of sun power. I highly recommend this team - they are very involved with each customer and their installation. Great job!

Great Basin Solar designed and installed our rooftop solar system. From our first meeting with Joe Stephenson and later dealings with Travis Miller the President of Great Basin Solar and Matt Cowee, the entire process was very professional as well as personable. The installation crew was here on time and worked hard despite the summer heat. The install is very clean. Now that we have solar, our only regret is that we didn’t contact Great Basin Solar earlier.

When our solar installer went bankrupt, leaving us without monitoring or maintenance we were unsure if our system was even performing correctly. I contacted Matt at Great Basin Solar and in a matter of just a couple days he had transferred our monitoring, taught me how to understand the new monitoring features, analyzed what was being reported, and then told me my system was good. He didn't try to sell me anything I didn't need. I am happy to recommend Matt @ Great Basin Solar and will surely contact him should any issues ever arise in the future.

Everyone at Great Basin Solor was extremely professional and made the process of buying and installing solar panels painless.
What I liked:
1. Prepared before coming to property - Before scheduling a visit we had a 20 to 30 minute phone call when I was able to provide the information they needed to prepare a quote. When someone came to the house, he showed up with a proposal, options, and recommendations. Reps for other companies showed up unprepared and then took days to get back to me with a proposal after coming to the house.
2. They know their product and the technology - Everyone that I talked to knew what they were talking about. They know the products they are selling inside and out, and the information they provided was accurate. I had rep for another company tell me that the efficiency of one of the available panels was 26%, which is very inaccurate.
3. No hard pressure sales tactics - I was provided with all the information I wanted, as well as any potential options, but did not feel pressured. A rep for another company required me to sign a contact during our first meeting, before he would provide a proposal, and while they said it could be rescinded at any time, the contract had specific language that it needed to be done within 3 business days.
4. Prompt responses to questions - I had a lot of questions and asked for a lot of clarification. Whether done via email or phone, someone always responded quickly, and answered my questions thoroughly.

Great Basin was recommended by a neighbor, and I'm glad we took their advice.

I can't thank Great Basin Solar enough! My solar company went out of business before finishing the work, so I contacted Great Basin Solar and I felt like they actually cared. They jumped through so many hoops to fix all the errors my previous solar company left behind to get me up and running. This is the third house that I have installed solar on in Northern Nevada. Great Basin Solar is the most professional outfit that I’ve worked with from the initial assessment to until the final installation. These guys are excellent. They were super efficient in getting the job done and this last project was a big 50 panel project. The Installation is the cleanest I’ve ever seen. They communicate extremely well and are well informed. They are just great people to work with!

I think my last email response to Travis and Matt sums it up (see below). They seem great until they have a warranty issue that they are required to fix. Then they just try to talk circles around you hoping you'll give up. Avoid them.

How on earth can you pretend that it isn't your responsibility as the system installer to know what the backup battery amp requirements are for the circuits I asked you to provide backup power for? You didn't design my refrigerator either, but the refrigerator happens to not have a discharge surge amp draw above 18.9 like the submersible pump motor has (and they were both in place prior to solar installation).

The alternative strategies you suggest are to make up for your installation of an undersized backup battery - not acceptable.

You stated that the warranty you provide is only for things like nuts, bolts etc, and the actual equipment is under the manufacturer warranty. Now, the situation has been revealed that the equipment (backup battery) is working but it cannot accommodate the amp requirements of the equipment (pump) that you wired for backup power. This now falls under the installer warranty and not the manufacturer because the root cause of the failure is an undersized battery that you spec'd out for the backup power circuits.

If the system you recommended for what I requested didn't work, then you should have known that and told me beforehand. If you did, I would never have agreed to move forward with your installation.

You keep mentioning the above ground tank system I am installing as an option to make up for the undersized battery you spec'd out and installed. The above ground pump from the above ground tank has the same amp draw as the submersible pump. Therefore, the undersized backup battery you installed would trip out for the above ground water pump too.

Feel free to place me on your "Do not do business with" list. I would never do business with you again. I am just amazed that you don't see or refuse to admit your error or that you intentionally scammed me (it's one or the other). I told you what I wanted from the system installation and you installed the equipment to supposedly meet the requirements for what I asked for (you even wrote on the breakers what circuits were powered by the backup battery - which would indicate that the battery would back those circuits up). The numbers don't lie. The battery provides a maximum discharge surge of 18.9 amps and the submersible pump that was in place (which has the same specs as the one that is currently installed) has a start up surge of 30-40 amps per the manufacturer (way above the limits of the backup battery).

As for the paths I am considering, litigation is one. I am definitely going to share this experience with the public (Google, Yelp, Better Business Bureau, etc.). I am stuck paying $285 a month for 12 years (which is $41,040) for something that doesn't do what I asked for (prior to installation) because you installed an undersized battery.

4/9/24 - In response to your response to my review:

The battery was undersized from the start, so stop lying. And you did not make any recommendation against using the backup battery for the well pump. Powering the well pump was the main reason I went with solar. Stop lying for crying out loud! The new well pump is "like for like". It has the same specifications as the original well pump that the backup battery, that you selected and installed, was undersized for too. The battery didn't and doesn't work for either pump. I told you about the problem 4 years ago. Yes, the battery works, but not for the circuits that you connected for backup power. It trips out every time the power goes out, so it is useless. Over $40,000 down the drain.

The customer service of this company is close to the worst I’ve experienced before.

I was respectful to whoever was on the phone with me and who refused to even provide me a name. These guys are the best! Travis and his crew walked me thru the process every step of the way with never any pressure to hire their company. So excited to finally "flip the switch" today, less than 4 months from the initial contact.

Great Basin Solar was a wonderful experience start to finish. Their design guy, Joe, gave us a realistic expectation of what our house could produce. When we questioned him about what other companies had promised, he took the time to show us why those plans would not work. They communicated over phone, email, and text through every step of the process, and Travis, the owner, reached out several times to see if we had questions. Mark, the engineer who came out to inspect before everything got rolling, was flexible and thorough. Their install crew was great: fast and friendly. Everyone is local so if you have any issues, you can give them a call, and they respond quickly. This was one of the best experiences we’ve had with a contractor. We’d choose them again with no reservations.

After much research I chose Great Basin for my solar roof. VERY!!! responsive to my many questions and always available to talk. I am using them again when I do my rentals. Great work Team!!! Thank you

Great Basin did all the heavy lifting with our install and we ended up with a very clean, very attractive end result. The conduit runs were very clean (none of that ugly silver pipe running across our shingles because that's the cheap, ugly, stupid, and easy way to do it), financing was transparent, they knew how to make things leakproof, the app is simple, they only use the best panels and inverters, and they're still here with a local team to support us. We're so pleased that we finally pulled the trigger on this and went with Great Basin instead of some shady door-to-door salesperson.

Great Basin Solar has put together a very effective team, to cover all the moving parts, leading to a timely and successful solar install. All players, from design to actually pulling the switch, know their role and accomplish their tasks efficiently and effectively. Licensed electricians on sight(I had two) know not only how but care how it looks. All questions were were answered and all concerns were addressed. Could not be happier and recommend them without hesitation.

After seeing so many great reviews of Great Basin Solar, when it came time for us to replace our 24 year old solar system I contacted Great Basin in February. I talked with Matt on the phone. I was impressed. Right off the bat he was able to take a look at our roof top, and analyze it with Helios. He also was able to get our data for last year from NV Energy. He set us up to have a visit from Joe, their sales person a few days later. So, off to a good start.
Joe came to our house on time and we had a good discussion. Since we had a previous system we had some idea of what we wanted. We inquired as to what system they generally liked to install and he told us that they almost always installed Solar Edge inverters with Solar Edge solar panel optimizers. He highly discouraged adding a battery backup to the system. Apparently this is because they have had a high number of warranty claims with the Solar Edge battery. They also are not reimbursed for the labor costs of replacing defective Solar Edge batteries so I understand their reluctance. He suggested we get a generator for backup purposes.
I inquired about Enphase and Sol Ark inverter systems and he told us that the Enphase micro inverters had a lot of failures. This conflicted with reviews online that I have read where actual failure rates of these micro inverters is low and they are prompt in replacing them.
We then discussed solar panels. Joe told us that they use Q cell panels (made in Georgia) frequently, a panel that we also considered. Since we are interested in using U.S. made products I inquired about Silfab Elite panels which are made in Washington state. He texted Travis, the owner, who disparaged the Silfab panels and sent a negative Reddit posting from a supposed installer. This conflicts with many reviews online that typically show Silfab panels in the top 10 panels to consider. It became apparent to my wife and I that Great Basin only wanted to install Solar Edge and that they were not open to other possibilities. The deal killer for us was that they don't want to install battery backups. There may be something to be said for installers using one brand. They usually get a financial incentive for doing so and they become familiar with the product allowing them to do an installation quickly.
Ultimately, we opted not to use Great Basin. I am sure that many people have very good experiences with them but they were just not for us. I also don't like contractors disparaging other products when I know better. Travis disappointed me.
Ultimately we went with another company and decided on a Sol-Ark 15k inverter, 400 watt Q Cell panels and Simpliphi Ampliphi batteries (Lithium iron phosphate batteries made in Oxnard, California). After researching this matter for months, I can make the following suggestions:
1) Decide if you want to have battery backup or not. For us, considering the number of power outages in Reno (we have had two in the last week), this was a requirement. In addition, do your research on virtual power plants. This is going to be increasingly important as utilities try to provide power needs for our community. Residential battery backups can be aggregated together and may be a way in the future for people to help pay back the cost of the system.

2)If you decide to have a battery backup, battery chemistry is important. Nickel, Manganese, Cobalt Lithium batteries do have a risk of so called "thermal runaway" or fires. Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries are the obvious choice for home batteries.
3) If you don't have battery backup the cost of your system will be less. You can still do net metering and dramatically cut your power bill. You just may not have power in your home when the grid goes down.
4)Make sure to inquire as to whether or not the company has journeymen electricians on staff and whether they will be helping do your installation. Certified solar installers are great, but you can't beat having experienced electricians at your installation as well.
5) The Inflation Reduction Act gives you a 30% tax credit.

Great Basin handled everything professionally and in a timely manner, from securing the HOA approval and installing the system, to finalizing the permits with the utility company. They got the job done correctly, passing the utility inspection the first time and getting the system operational quickly.

Our top producing panel hasn't worked since install. They just don't have time to fix. Now just not responding to husband or me. We aren't important anymore.. Disappointed because from the first call they told us they were watching it and should have scheduled in immediately.

After posting review they were out here same day and fixed. Offered to make things right. This is a great team, very knowledgeable, very friendly, just needed a set date for repair and notification of repair date. We understand everyone is short handed these days.

This is my second solar installation with Great Basin and they do great work. They handled all aspects of the project professionally and even obtained the approval from my hoa. Travis and his team are very responsive and happily answered all my questions. I highly recommend this company.

Travis at Great Basin has a very professional solar installing outfit. From start to finish I was impressed with every communication we had. From the sales presentation all the way thru final powering up of our new solar array system everything was very professional. All questions were always answered quickly. Great Basin was very willing to work with us to install the highest efficiency panels, optimizers and inverter. No upselling which we really appreciated. In fact when we brought up maybe upgrading the inverter for possible future additional panels they let us no that the system they were installing had room for expansion. I got multiple estimates for my solar installation. I chose Great Basin Solar because they are local to Reno, they were competitively priced and responded to my input on what kind of a system I wanted. After I decided on Great basin they were very responsive to all my questions and needs.
I did quite a bit of research before I purchased a system. Some of the other solar companies wanted to charge me extra for the system size I wanted , they had a minimum system size and for a smaller size a surcharge!. I didn't feel they were responsive to my needs at all.
I have to say I am more than happy with my choice of Great Basin Solar! Travis and Matt were very helpful before and after the sale. They walked me through each step.

We recently purchased rooftop solar from Great Basin Solar. The team there (Travis, Matt, Joe, et al) is well informed and professional. They really know what they are doing and navigated all the requirements and regulations making the project easy for us. They have been easy to reach when we had questions and are always helpful and knowledgeable. We needed a new roof as well and their collaboration with CTR Roofing saved us time and money. The new roof and solar array look great and our system is up and running well. It is nice to be able to see what the system is doing via the Solar Edge app.

I'm recently widowed and deciding to get solar panels was confusing and complicated. I started with Joe who gave very clear explanations of the benefits of solar and the products/services Great Basin offered versus two other companies I contacted. Once I had selected Great Basin, Travis, the owner and project manager, was in regular contact to explain the processes involved, including getting necessary permits, which is all completed by them. When installation occurred, Tad, the lead installer and Tyreek, his assistant, had to not only install the huge panels on the roof but also work in the crawl space beneath the house as well as in the attic. Travis was "on hands" and on the roof checking the installation. During the entire project, Travis sent e-mails telling me what phase of the project they were in. Bottom line, this is an excellent solar panel company that you realize you can trust and that you know will provide an excellent product. And the people are very, very nice.

We had a great experience with Great Basin Solar. They were very thorough when walking us through the process and price points for the panels. They answered our questions and never made us feel like we were asking too much.

The loan company they are affiliated with, Sungage, was also awesome. The process was pretty fluid and we are very pleased with the rates and options offered.

Installation was an easy 2 day process. Very neat, clean, and organized. Everything looks beautiful and finished. We were initially concerned at how the wall inverter unit would look inside the garage, but no worries there because it looks clean cut and unobtrusive.

Overall, we would highly recommend using them if you are thinking about getting solar for your home in the very sunny state!

From start to finish it has been a pleasure to work with Travis and his team. From my initial inquiry I was provided with a no cost estimation where someone came to my house to evaluate and no have someone talk to me on the phone who was looking at my house from google earth.

After the evaluation I was provided a detailed report of the design, how much I could potentially save, and the options for financing as well as paying with cash I would also like to say that at no time did I ever feel pressured to sign the contract or commit to Great Basin Solar. I really appreciated not being upsold on a system that was too large for my home or other add ons like other companies had tried to do.

When I signed the contract my original installation date was supposed to be approximately mid March. However Travis called me and stated that they had some earlier availability and came next day to do the install.

I would absolutely recommend Great Basin Solar, Travis, and his team to anyone that is considering going solar. They make the process so easy from beginning to end and on top of that are a local business I was so fortunate to work with.

So far, there service and product has been everything we can hope for. We got 8 panels for our small little house and will probably add more in the future when we get an EV. Travis, Matt, and Joe were all fantastic to work with. We felt some weird vibes from other companies in town that claimed to be able to the same thing for less. In the end Great Basin Solar was the better product and cheaper to boot. We also received our panels months ahead of schedule and already making power. Highly recommend working with these people.

I was worried about finding a great, reputable solar installer and researched various companies in depth. I was excited when I found solar basin. Finally someone regionally local with a passion and track record. They listened to my motivation for installing solar and suggested I install solar for an EV if I was going to need a new car on the next few years. I’d never thought about the efficiency of powering my EV with solar. Makes sense to me!

I was getting a new roof so I checked with my roofer to see if he had experience with solar basin and he confirmed that they did excellent installations. Grateful to have found them and recommend them highly.

Everyone at Great Basin Solar has been professional and helpful. Installation of solar panels done a month ahead of original schedule. Work was completed in a timely manner and installers were great. Inspection by the city was one week after installation and information sent to NVEnergy the same day. Just waiting on my new meter and to start collecting the sun's energy!

Look, if you just want to go on price, such as with big investment companies (LA Solar, Tesla, etc.) that come in promising the lowest price, read another review. However, many times, they are not as low as you think...really!!!

Plus, this is a major modification to your home. Do you really want an investment company, or a guy who repaired stereos a few years ago, that don't care about you or your home? The investment companies will subcontract a set of workers that might have little experience with the ins-outs of solar installs in your area. Not to mention they live in another state, don't know your HOAs, and who don't regularly work with your power company?

We are very happy with our experience with Great Basin Solar. After accepting their bid they handled everything- submitting paperwork through the City planning office, interfacing with NV energy, scheduling necessary inspections, even interfacing with our home owners association. The installation was streamlined and efficient. They arrived on a Friday afternoon and returned on Monday to finish the installation. Installation was quick and the work was done very cleanly and professionally.

Travis and his crew were very professional, and they provided me and my wife with a trouble free system. Our installation was approximately 1 1/2 years ago. Our Sixteen panels are producing electricity at a almost cost free during summer months, exception of NV connection charges.

We really liked working with a small, local company. Travis and the team are so committed to climate change and so experienced in doing their jobs. The panels were put in place in a day and inspections scheduled immediately afterwards. From the initial proposal to power on, everything went quickly and efficiently. Since we are older, we might not get much financial payback, but, regardless, we feel good about getting our power from the sun now as well as supporting the young people who are part of Great Basin Solar.

I have really enjoyed the experience of working with Great Basin Solar. I did not know much coming into the process, but both Joe Stephenson on the Sales side and Travis Miller, the owner and coordinator of my project, answered all of my questions and educated me at each step of the way. I was grateful that they have a dependable partner on the roofing side of the project (Great Basin Roofing), and felt that the work was well coordinated and professionally accomplished. My power bills have already been cut in half since having the solar electricity installed. I would recommend Great Basin if you are looking to add solar electricity to your property.

Much easier and better than I expected. I am still waiting for my first (super-low) electricity bill to arrive after the install, but I expect it to be in the single digits as my system appears to be cranking out a ton of power. Thanks guys!!

From the first phone call to today, our experience with Great Basin Solar has been pretty remarkable. The two people I dealt with were Joe and Travis, and both of them really exemplify excellent service and professionalism. We got through the entire process very quickly and painlessly, including the permitting process! We've had our panels for a couple months now with minimal issues (the one that we had involved an internet outage which was not Great Basin Solar's fault). And if there ever was an issue, Travis and/or Joe responded extremely quickly and resolved almost immediately. Thank you very much!

I would highly recommend using Great Basin Solar. They are a local company and they were recommended to me by a friend.
I ended up replacing my roof and getting the solar panels and it was all through Great Basin Solar. They replaced my roof in 2 and a half days and put on the solar panels in another 2 days. They were quick and professional. I was worried about doing this project, but they made it very easy.

Very professional and organized. I didn't have to do anything to help move the process along. I was given a very details road map of exactly how and when each step would happen. The insight that Travis provided on the initial call was very important to me. I was shown much more information and reasoning for decisions than from other companies. My only problem is the current smoke situation isn't allowing me to determine if the system is fully operational, but it appears to be generating at a reasonable amount give the smoke.

Travis and all the guys at Great Basin Solar have been great!! They were so thorough and fast, much faster than the original expected competed date. Also it's amazing that they handle everything for you, even down to dealing with your HOA, if you have one. I personally also really appreciate that they don't try to up sell you.
