We worked with Flintstones Design & Build on a renovation project for one of our commercial buildings, including extensive waterproofing and masonry work. We recently had Flintstones build some concrete stairs, several retaining walls, and pour a couple concrete pads for us.

From the initial consultation with Max, to the finished product every step along the way was handled with the utmost professionalism.

The office staff and project managers were great at communicating timelines, project status, and when the crew would be on site, etc. At the end of the project there were no hidden costs, it was exactly as we had discussed.

And as great as they were, Brian and his crew who were on site working were even better. They always showed up on time, were courteous, accommodating if they were blocking the driveway and we needed to get out, and ensured the site was tidied up at the end of each day. And these guys just flat out put in work. I was amazed at how much they were able to accomplish in such little time. Sincerely a huge thank you to these guys.

All in all it was a fantastic experience and we would not hesitate to call them again if we need more work done.

Flintstones did an amazing job of rebuilding of our driveway and path to the front door, replacing drainage tile, building a new fence and two new gates and a stone pathway in our back yard. We had our kitchen renovated last spring, and we're very pleased with the experience overall. One of the standout aspects of working with Flintstones was their transparent accounting system—it made budgeting and tracking expenses straightforward, which was a relief during such a big project. Our project manager Jeremy was great at tackling issues immediately and ensuring that things stayed on track.

That said, communication occasionally got crossed during the project, leading to a few minor misunderstandings. However, what truly impressed us was the firm’s commitment to standing by their work. My husband and I are not strangers to construction and remodels. The Flintstones construction people were organized, knowledgeable, professional and willing and able to think outside the box when required. Flintstones was professional from design to costing to follow up. We are located in a more remote area of the CRD and yet the project manager, Jeremy , was a master at managing his subs so that they were efficient, competent, friendly and tolerant of me butting my nose in from time to time. I highly recommend them if you want the best construction experience.

We recently contacted Flintstones Construction to get advice about a possible issue with our home, and spoke with Max Sydenham. This was not a particularly large job, but we needed some guidance, and didn’t know who to contact. We had quite a detailed conversation on the phone, and soon after, Max and an associate came to our home to take a look. We had Flintstones do renovations on our Victoria condo. We were impressed from our first meeting with Max, who made us feel comfortable and listened to, to the designers Robyn and Lindsay who came up with an amazing design for our kitchen, to Jeremy our project manager who kept things flowing and kept us up to date, as we were in Ontario at the time. To say my husband and I are well versed in home renovation projects would be an understatment. Pre-project we had very little experience not only with actual renovations themselves, but also in working with companies or designers involved in the process.

From day 1 working with Flintstones however, we felt heard, understood and part of the team. Mike reconized that we were new to the game and instead of treating us as though we didn’t know what we were talking about (even though we didn’t!), he took the time to walk us through the initial scope and budget. He kept in tight communication with my husband throughout the entire process with updates and other considerations. We’ve come to know Mike through this project on a personal level as well, and found him to be a really kind, considerate and thoughtful human being.

After the inital meetings with Mike, we were introduced to our project manager Jeremy who we dealt with almost daily as the project rolled along. You can tell honesty, integrity and communication are very high on their list of priorities at Flintstones. If we had any questions, Jeremy was just a text or drop in visit away. We really go to know him too, and not only is Jeremy a highly skillful project manager but also a truly genuine person who we are happy to now call a friend along with Mike.

The contractors hired to work on our project were incredibly professional and also just really fun guys. Personally, we loved that given we spent quite a bit of time with them! When we had a specific question about the project, they were always willing to take the time to explain and even give us points and tips for other household items.

The project ended up growing a little more than we had initially anticipated, but we are thrilled with the result. An outdoor BBQ space, a widdened stone path / patio, a stunning raised bed veggie garden and forest garden path later and we have finalized this Phase of the project with Flintstones. It has certainly added value to our home, and will contine to improve our quality of life.

We’ll be back in touch once we are looking to start Phase II of our project, and would happily recommend the team at Flintstones for those looking to work with a highly accomplished team + add that WOW factor to their home.

We hired Flintstones to repoint three tall chimneys on our 2-storey 1913 house over ten years ago. As stewards of a heritage house, we have prided ourselves by hiring trades who provide quality work. The skilled masons far surpassed our expectations by rebuilding tasteful and decorative chimneys, that have added to the grandeur of the Tudor-Revival home in Oak Bay. At our request, another Flintstones crew reused the salvaged brick to lay two patios on the property, and they brought in slate for walkways. It was awhile back but we still remember the excellent workmanship and work ethic of the crew.

We recently reached out to Mike De Palma to get help with an urgent matter with another property and he quickly referred us to another professional trade. They responded promptly and assisted us right away, much to our relief. As former clients, we are very grateful for the help and professionalism Mike has provided and all of those concerned.

Flintstones built a project I designed for a client living on the beach- a flagstone patio, sitting height wall, and glass surround to minimize the wind. I was impressed with their professionalism as well as their clear and organized approach to doing business. Working with Mike and Team at Flintstones has been an absolute pleasure. The attention to detail, responsiveness and workmanship is what really elevates the experience. If you haven't seen their showroom you should, it really helps visualize the many options available in today's construction.

A slightly different review, but an important one. Yesterday I was walking my dog along Mayfair Drive (Mt Tolmie), where some Flintstones Constructions workers were working at a house (as evidenced by a sign). My dog stopped to sniff, and I overheard a conversation roughly as follows:
A newer employee consulting his coworker on the best way to accomplish a task, and his co-worker replying with 'whichever method allows you to do the job to the best of your ability'.
Next, the newer guy asked his colleague advice about doing something and putting a tarp down first. The more seasoned guy mentioned it could cause a hole in the tarp, and the newer fellow replied 'I thought I'd double-fold it first'. Instead of telling his colleague not to, the more experienced guy says "The thing that's great about this company is that it's not about how long it takes to do the job, it's about how long it takes to do it properly, without damaging anything and to the best of your ability. So take your time, and really take pride in your work, and that will make everyone happiest". Neither of these guys knew I was listening, and it was really wonderful to hear that "do it once, do it right" is more than just a slogan, it's company ethos.

We worked with Flintstones for over 6 months on a major house renovation and they were superb. I was most impressed with their clarity of communication and their flexibility and adaptability when the inevitable project changes came about - either initiated by us or as a result of unexpected surprises during the work. Communication and planning on the project was excellent, they were very responsive to our needs around budget. They completely understood where our priorities were and made great suggestions to help us stay on budget while prioritizing the work that matter most to us. The resulting work was very skillfully done, despite covering a wide range of disciplines from hazardous materials removal to energy improvements. We are incredibly happy with what they did and the care they took in renovating our home.

We hired the Flintstones team to fulfil my dream of a front porch. The end result is beautiful, and we are very happy with the entire process. Flintstones listened to our needs and gave us a very thorough budget breakdown prior to the start.Their timeline was accurate and they did right by us when things did not go as planned.

A bit of a story with this one but the bottom line is they do the job right and don’t cut any corners.

They re-did our chimney 10 years ago. I vaguely remember at the time they explained how they hooked up a modern pvc drainage system around the chimney into the existing clay pipe system. Well I’m redoing the perimeter drain system around my house and I found their hook-up and remembered them telling me about it. They did it just perfectly and it worked just great for these 10 years. This kind of attention to detail shows a great deal of professionalism. If you’re thinking of hiring them you can be sure they can be trusted.

And we’ve enjoyed our chimney a whole lot too!!! Thanks guys!

We are very pleased with the work done by Flintstones to replace our two chimneys above the roofline. From the initial visit to our house by Mike de Palma and Trent to help us decide what needed to be done, we were impressed by their professionalism and confident in their knowledge. It took a few days to get the quote, but their quote was more thorough than others and their price was competitive.

We liked having a showroom to visit and we appreciated the time that Mike spent in the showroom with us, including taking us out into the yard to show us samples of various types of brick.

When driving around town we noticed one chimney that really looked good to us. It turned out that it was one done by Flintstones seven years ago. Even though we had already signed the contract, Mike immediately agreed to match the design, color, and type of brick used in that chimney that we liked.

The crew (Arlo and Connor) did an excellent job. We love our new chimneys!

We had our drain system replaced last December. Great company to work with. Excellent customer service and work. Definitely will recommend to friends.

I contacted Flintstones in the fall to talk about construction of a retaining wall and replacement fence on the back of my property. Throughout the process, Flintstones was incredible with dealing with the unexpected curve-balls that the project developed, and delivered a stunning end result. Flinstones Construction did an amazing job building our deck. Everything about the job was first class from start to finish and the result was nothing but perfection. We would absolutely recommend Flinstones Construction.

We undertook a four part project to improve the exterior ‘infrastructure’ of our mid 1940s house: renovation of old perimeter drains; replacement of a rotting, elevated wood deck/stairs with smooth concrete pad & cedar stairs; installation of stone front steps/aluminium railing over top of original concrete steps; wider, more functional driveway. It is a cliché to say a company’s greatest asset is its people but this is what impressed me the most about Flintstones. We appreciated the quality of the planning, communications and attention to detail in the work. We will use them again for other projects on our to-do list.

They worked efficiently, cleanly, and knew exactly what was expected. Only missed the fifth star because they left one hole untouched.

Worked with Max to repair a stone wall veneer on a Strata building. Was very pleased with the service provided and their communication was top notch. They matched the veneer very well with the rest of the building and even did the job on a weekend to fit it into their schedule. Great company to deal with.

We have mixed emotions about the completion of our project – it seems so long ago now that we were discussing the design possibilities in our backyard on that cold December day.

We are so happy that we made the decision to move forward with our project and have Flintstones complete it before the Summer months so that we can enjoy our space. Looking back at “before” pictures, we can hardly believe it’s the same space. Even our 88 year old mom has ventured into the back yard on a number of occasions to look at the masonry work so expertly completed by Trent and his team and the amazing pond/waterfall so meticulously detailed by Tim. To say WE LOVE IT is an understatement. Neighbours have been curious and some have asked to view the backyard. Their first impression…OMG!!!

This weekend, we planted close to 100 boxwoods to line the edges of the garden and define the spaces that have been designated for shade plants, roses and othe sun-loving annuals. The sound of the waterfall muffles the traffic noise and creates an oasis that we know we will enjoy for years and years to come. At night, the space is once again transformed into something magical due to the lights and ambience. We have been to many resorts in our travels and each time we bring home ideas that we had one day hope to incorporate into our dream home. With the help of Flintstones and big Mike’s lighting suggestions, that dream is now a reality.

We have been talking about the next phases of design and of course we would love Flintstones to be apart of that. This is mainly due to the workmanship, professionalism and our ability to connect with you all. We so appreciate the speed in which our questions, emails, etc. were answered throughout the project.

We encountered an unwelcome surprise regarding a structural issue in a portion of the foundation of our home. Root cause and resolution were basically an emergency because remediation was a condition of sale, with an established possession date that provided a very tight window for the work.

Flintstones embraced our near mission impossible cause and worked miracles and magic to complete this complex project in time for us to successfully turn the house over to the new owners.

Flintstones had taken care of replacing a retaining wall for us, as well as some other stone and concrete work, several years ago. They did a fantastic job then, so it was a no-brainer to forego comparison shopping and go straight to them. They did not disappoint!

I approached Flintstones January 2018, looking for a contractor that could help me plan and execute a secondary suite in my unfinished basement. I spoke with Mike first, then had a conference call with Mike and Rhett. Both were very polite, professional and knowledgeable with this type of work. Ultimately, the guys identified some key aspects of the project which could potentially push the costs way out of my budget. They basically talked me out of doing the job, and I'm very glad they did! It would have been a huge mistake to jump into this work only to get half way there and run out of money. I will be saving and planning for a couple years before tackling the basement, thanks to their advice.

Mike da Palma of Flintstones has donated two very well designed and constructed stone markers to Oak Bay. The first is a monument to Lekwungen history and culture on Penzance Road (by the Chinese Cemetery) related to the sacred Sahsima rock on the nearby shore. The second, a recently completed cairn at the View Point, Trafalgar Park, acknowledges the heritage status of the 1906 light house and the 1970 light tower on Trial Island, Tlikwaynung. We are grateful indeed for Mike's generosity.

Flintstones replaced our old drainage tiles, repaired foundation cracks and waterproofed our basement walls using top of the line materials and workmanship. The workers were very polite and extremely accommodating throughout the entire project. Darryl made sure every question about the process was answered to our satisfaction. These guys are great! From the development of the vision, the detailed budget, to the work itself, this company is top drawer. The work was high quality, carefully done. Communication excellent. Flintstones did an excellent job replacing the clay drainage tiles on
three sides of the house as well as waterproofing the foundations
and completing with cement replacement on the sidewalks, replanting
bushes and seeding patches of the lawn.
I appreciated having a written copy of the various segments of the contract with potential costs plus having those various segments
explained. Also, for being kept informed of additional costs such as
connecting to the Municipal line.
All workers worked hard, I must say, and were helpful making it
possible to get out on a 'moat' until lastly the sidewalk repaired.

I saw a Flintstones lawn sign which is fairly common in my neighborhood that said "Do it once, do it right!" and reached out to them for some drainage and concrete work. 5 years ago I had a concrete guy (company) install a garage slab at another property and it was not level so the garage door had a 1 3/4inch gap at one side. The concrete guy wouldn't answer my calls and return to fix it. I ended up getting the garage door guy to install a metal plate to the garage door to seal the gap, but now the metal plate has cut into the weather stripping and destroyed it on one side. It is just a giant mess. I didn't want to get a half fast job done again and I felt I could count on the Flintstones because of their strong reputation and I was right. Super happy with the job and impressed with the professionalism of the company.

We were very pleased with the whole process of getting a new chimney in Dec. 2016. From the first visit to estimate the scope and price to the our new, good-looking chimney we found all the Flintstones' crew to be professional, considerate and very good at communicating. We are glad we chose them--they do excellent work.

Flintstones did great work on our place. They rebuilt a portion of our chimney. The final product looks amazing and the company was very professional at every step of the process. They showed up on time and remained on site until our job was completed and cleaned up. I would recommend them in a heartbeat.

We hired Flintstones to do a chimney rebuild and address drainage issues on our first home. We have a "purchase plus improvements" mortgage, so we had to get quotes for the work well before the closing date. We had emails and phone calls out to numerous companies. Flintstones was the only company to treat us as valued customers, while the other companies we contacted would not give us the time of day (some were even outright rude to us!)

Flintstones sent a certified inspector for both jobs. He did a thorough inspection on our perimeter drain system and our chimney. Each inspection was $250, but this payment goes towards the job in the end. The inspection findings were discussed with us in detail, as well as a plan of attack on the jobs along with a quote which is honored on completion. We were able to immediately book a timeline for these jobs.

After the possession of our home, the work started right on schedule. The chimney was the first thing to do. The Flintstones crew showed up early each day and had a very professional and safe approach to working on our roof. We were given numerous options for materials and design. We were also given some suggestions for what would look good on our home. Our old chimney was completely dismantled above the roof line and a new chimney was built within a few days. It is very well built and it looks amazing! It's like our home got a new crown.

A few months later we had our perimeter drains fixed. Unfortunately there were many new issues uncovered during the dig, which led to a much higher cost. Flintstones suggested a complete system make-over. We were unable to afford this big job, so they devised a plan to do the original job on the one side of the house, while addressing the other problem areas piece by piece. We went over budget on this job but Flintstones was very accommodating in allowing us a little extra time to get the funds in order.

In summary, Flintstones Masonry is very professional and easy to work with. They are on-time, transparent, and their communication is second-to-none. Their work is excellent and is guaranteed. They don't overlook the small stuff or skip any steps. All their staff are friendly, polite and fun to talk to. If I could find one fault, it would be that their prices are quite high. But, when you consider the numerous benefits of working with this company, it is all worth it. I would not hesitate to hire Flintstones Masonry in the future.

I am an engineering student at UVic. I reached out to Flintstones for help with a class project. I had never built formwork before but Mike, the Owner, encouraged me to come into the office. I was greeted by friendly staff and Carpenters that were excited to share their expertise. Thanks again Flintstones Masonry!

Flintstones came to my rescue. I had suffered a badly at the hands of another contractor who had walked off the job, leaving me with two dismantled chimneys, when I refused to meet continuing demands for advance payments which were not part of our contract. I phoned Flintstones for a quote to finish the work. Flintstones were like the cavalry arriving! The day I phoned, Mike De Palma, came to my house that evening to assess the difficulties my departing contractor had left me. Flintstones had a team at the house by 8am the next day to clear up the mess left behind and weather-proof my dismantled chimneys. They then managed to bring a fantastic team on site almost immediately thereafter and finished building our chimneys beautifully, on time and on budget. Their site management and disciplined approach to the work they did was a pleasure to see. I cannot recommend Flintstones highly enough. I would certainly use them again.

From start to finish working with Flintstones was an excellent experience. From the beginning we were impressed with the way Mike and his team approached understanding our goals for the replacement of our driveway and updating the stone facade of our home. They listened to what we wanted and helped us work through all the possibilities to create a project that fit both our aesthetic goals and the budget.

Fantastic experience from start to finish! Mike and his team are an absolute pleasure to work with. The entire team was polite, kind and respectful of our home and family, kept a clean worksite and readily communicated on the progress of the 4-month project. They also took tremendous care of our trees and shrubs that were temporarily moved. We really appreciated their advice and expertise through the design phase of our renovation. My first inquiry was met with a very prompt and very professional response. Mike and his team were very thorough in assessing and evaluating potential problems and solutions.

Our perimeter drainage system had failed which resulted in water problems around the rear and sides of the house causing concrete - already sitting on loosely packed base - to shift and crack. The drainage system was replaced and new base was properly replaced and compacted with new concrete poured. On top of that, the concrete and the foundation was properly sealed while they had it exposed and the concrete was reinforced with rebar. A lot of steps were taken to ensure that the end product will last a long time. Additionally, after noticing that our staircase was dangerously unstable, they were able to incorporate support pillars into the plans - something that we had overlooked ourselves but are very happy that it was done.

Professionalism was exhibited by the crew as well as in the manner they worked. The site was cleaned up after each an every day, showing almost no telltale signs that construction work was in progress when the crew was not there - very tidy. They even made the effort to come by and do additional touch-ups.

The quality of work is top-notch. Not only was there a focus on how the end product looked on the surface, but they took steps to ensure that it lasts. Communication was very clear and concise and Mike did a very good job with keeping me up to date on the progress of the project during every step. Most important was that they did everything to give me peace of mind during such a significant project, and to assure that my home was in good hands.
