I had several new home construction experiences in my past. And moving to the Black Hills, I chose Erskin construction to design and build my final “dream home in the hills”. I have never been happier working with a contractor! I was interested in a SIP home. Todd knows design and construction of both SIP and traditional framed building inside and out! He listened to my hopes and dreams, and began by designing the home that would not only fit my dreams, but my property and my budget. That was a big deal to me to have someone who could start by designing my home and then move into the construction phase without having to start over working with contractors who had no idea about the “dream“. As we moved into the construction phase, he worked every step of the way to ensure perfection. He did not take shortcuts, and if something wasn’t right, it was redone to make sure it was done correctly. Todd’s honesty and knowledge of his trade are invaluable. He directed me to multiple resources and local area businesses to select the quality products (custom cabinetry, tile and wood flooring, help with interior design and colors, timber framing, windows, rock work, etc, etc.) for my home that would fit in line with my vision and dreams. I could call Todd at any point and I never once got the impression that I was a bother or inconveniencing him in anyway. As the house construction continued into its final phases, Todd never wavered from his timeliness, and attention to detail and perfection, all while staying within the projected budget discussed in the beginning. I have now had a good fortune to live in my dream home in the hills for the past six years. Every day I wake up counting my blessings and realize that Todd Erskin was a huge blessing in my life with his strong Christian work ethic, warm and caring professionalism with knowledge and skills of the highest caliber. Erskin Construction built our home:
When we decided to move to Rapid City from Ohio to be near our grandchildren, our top choice for constructing our new home was Erskin Construction. Todd had recently built our daughter’s home and we were very impressed. We particularly wanted Todd and were willing to wait on his schedule because he was the only one in the area who had the necessary experience in building with SIP’s. We wanted an air tight house as we were tired of drafty old homes, We were determined to get as close as possible to net-zero by incorporating as much passive and active solar as practical.
We are so happy with our home. Todd and his crew are very dedicated to quality, so they never cut corners. During the planning process, Todd helped us make the appropriate changes to our original architectural plan. We were downsizing from our previous home, so the design had to utilize space as efficiently as possible.
Todd is great to work with, keeping us in the loop, consulting with us when we were making selections for interior and exterior finishes. He recommend a great cabinet maker, so we could customize our kitchen and baths so everything fit perfectly. His recommendations for various manufacturers, including windows, mini-splits, heat recovery ventilation (HRV) equipment, etc, were just what we needed to meet our energy efficiency requirements.
In the past many people told us they would never want to build a house, because it is too stressful. But with Erskin Construction we found ourselves really enjoying the process so we highly recommend them. Our grandchildren’s futures were important, so we wanted an environmental-focused construction company. Don’t be short sighted when your making your construction choices. Heating and cooling a quality home with the SIPS will save you money in the long run and allow you to live comfortably.
