Jim was an absolute pleasure to work with - friendly, prompt, efficient - and very reasonably priced. He truly made an effort to ensure we were 100% satisfied. Very highly recommended!

Jim was amazing to work with. Helped me diagnose my roof situation (it is damaged by the high wind near the end of 2024), quickly get the estimation out and scheduled a service to get the repair done in just a few hours. Also he shared a huge wealth of experience and knowledge about my attic and roof.

I own a beautiful home in Issaquah - better known as "The Castle House" on Issaquah Hobart Rd SE. It is a 35 year old house that unfortunately has a roof leak. My wife contacted Emerald State and our fast talking sales person, with a good personality, convinced me that the roof is not the problem. Jim Oakley said it's the chimney. Well, suffice it to say, after I signed the estimate in June 2024 and provided a large down payment, Emerald State did everything but fix my roof leak. All while now making my chimney look different than the rest of my house. Jim Oakley stopped communicating with us late September 2024 when I informed him that the new drywall repair completed three days earlier is still leaking. I was now on my own with water still coming into my home until I found two contractors (1) Alpine Roofing Care, inc., and (2) Powers chimney and masonry. Both contracts confirmed that the roof is leaking, not the chimney, but I need to redo the chimney as it was not done properly. I plan to go to small claims court as the owner of Emerald State, Todd, is not willing to remedy the situation for me. I would not recommend Jim Oakley or Emerald State to do any roof or masonry repair if you want quality work performed.

Jim eventually came by with a Sherwin-Williams rep (only after this review was posted), who explained what might be causing the paint issue. Jim wouldn’t make eye contact with me, only spoke to my husband, and promised to drop off roofing for our shed to make up for the inconvenience—but never did. This was “doing everything to make it right”.

I originally wasn’t going to pursue this further, but since they are now trying to shift blame onto us for the bubbling issue, I feel it’s important to clarify the situation.

Attached is a screenshot showing Jim offering us $1,000 to remove our review. Additionally, they have repeatedly contacted my husband through phone calls and text messages, pressuring us to take the review down.

For the record, all we ever wanted from the start was for Jim to come to our home in person and assess the bubbling issue. A simple visit could have resolved everything.

Original review:
We paid this company to paint and replace the boards outside of our home. While the initial quote and coordination were smooth, we are now experiencing issues. A year after the work was completed, we are seeing chips, paint bubbles, and difficulties in getting the co-owner, Jim, to address these problems. Despite our repeated requests, the follow-up repairs have not fully resolved the issues.

After Jim sent his team to address some of the problems, we discovered additional spots needing repair. The second floor of our house has not been inspected, and Jim or Todd have not offered to visit. Communication has been challenging, with responses often lacking in professionalism. Jim has attributed the issues to factors beyond the company's control, such as the roof of our shed or alleged damage we caused. Anything but taking accountability and possible problems with the paint.

We have tried reaching out multiple times without success. Given the ongoing issues and lack of responsiveness, we are considering having the paint job redone and exploring our options for resolving this matter as the contract appears to have been breached.

Found leak on ceiling inside house in winter. Called original roof installer and said not water leak. Called another roofer and price was way out of line. Called Emerald State and Jim inspected leak and explained what needed to be done. Made temporary fix in dark to stop leak until a crew was able to make permanent fix. Waited till weather was better and crew came and now everything looks good. Good company to deal with. Jim is very personable and caring. Highly recommend to call for a quote.

Jim and the Emerald State team did a great job fixing our roof leak. They came out the same day, quickly fixed a faulty roof vent, and then proactively future-proofed every vent on our roof. They really went above and beyond. I appreciated Jim's honest advice and felt like he was invested in our home.

We randomly decided to have our roof looked at since all our neighbors roofs were starting to leak. We had already had a couple of leaks in early 2020.

Jim was very responsive, walked me through the drone pictures, and the state of the attic. He was also very honest in telling me that I could possibly go another couple of years without a new roof and also offered to help us out with any repairs that may come up before we were ready.

We decided to go with a new roof anyway and are happy that we went with Jim and Emerald State. Juliano and his crew were great! The new roof looks so much better and there are details that Emerald State took care of that I can now see were missing on my old roof.

I called them to fix my roof leak and they were able to fit me in their busy schedule. When I called other companies they were not even free to send someone to take look at it. One of the best customer service with good price and timing.

Nothing but good things to say about Emerald State, Jim, and his roofing crew led by Aiden. Jim went above and beyond through all phases of the project.

I assumed I needed new siding (a 50k project), and Jim was one of only two contractors to set me straight and let me know the roof was the actual issue (a 17k project). Proof positive that Jim and the entire company are looking out for their customers and not just concerned about making money.

Jim was the only contractor who wanted to get into the attic and check things out; he used the opportunity to teach me important maintenance things about my new house, what to look for when contractors try and rip off their customers, and how to prevent future problems.

Jim was terrific. Gave a detailed overview of what was required for a repair, and importantly, what was not. Will definitely use this company again for full roof replacement.

Emerald State, LLC exteriors (siding, stone, roofing, painting, and windows) has done multiple jobs for me. Todd, Jim, Aiden and the crews have always done a great job. They are friendly, professional, hard working, do excellent work—and they’re honest. They don’t just tell when I need to do something extra, but they tell me when something doesn’t need to be done, or can be postponed, when other companies tried to sell me on doing it.

They have never been the most expensive, but they also don’t lowball you, to get the work, and then jack it up later with changes to the work. Based on my experience with multiple contractors, I turn to Emerald State first, not even bothering to get other quotes. If they can do the work, they’ll know somebody who can trust.

Over the last few years I’ve had trouble getting contractors to return calls, refuse to quote work, or simply not show up. Not Emerald State. They take every job seriously, big or small. They communicative, keeping me appraised or scheduling delays, material shortages, etc.

On a last note, their cleanup was amazing! Prior to their finishing, my wife was discouraged with the amount of cleanup that would be required on the hardscape, and landscaping. I said, “Ah…but they’re not done…” Sure enough, after they were all packed up after finishing, they whole crew walked the entire site, picking up all the debris, and then blew everything off. The next morning she went out to start cleaning up. She came rushing in to say, “It’s all done—there’s nothing to cleanup! They did a really great job.” A shout-out of thanks to Aiden and the guys. THANK-YOU for finishing well.

Bottomline—they are trustworthy. Don’t waste your time looking anywhere else.

Absolutely great service with nice price ! No mention the professional team! From material picking to cleanup after installation, the team did an awesome work. We used their service last summer. And just referral to a friend in need recently.

Our kitchen began leaking water during the snow storm over the holidays. Jim came out to the house the same day we contacted Emerald. He identified the issue with the original roof installation missing some flashing and came up with a plan to repair the problem. Communication was great throughout the process, and the work was done quickly with excellent quality. Jim and Jose are absolutely amazing with extensive knowledge about roof repair and home maintenance. Jim is extremely knowledgeable and detail orientated. From the initial visit to completion of the project I was extremely satisfied with Jim and the team. Jim treated me more as family than just a customer. He was transparent, communicated well, and provided the most honest quote for the siding and window work I had done. He helped me identify the right materials, worked extra to get the best deals on windows and lumber, and the team performed excellent work. No corners were cut. After a year and heavy rains everything is holding up extremely well and Jim still checked in on satisfaction.

We had our roof, siding, and painting done by Emerald and we are very pleases with their work.

First, I had several contractors provide bids to replace our siding on the back of our house that had been beaten up over 20 years due to wind and rain exposure. After 20 years I was thinking that we needed to replace all the sidings. Jim from Emerald was the only person who said that the other 3 sides of the house were find and replacing the back is all that was needed. Well, that certainly saved us quite a bit of money.

The roof work was fine. There was one issue after they were done but when I contacted Jim, he had someone come by immediately.

Painting - We wanted to paint our house white with black trim. We were quite sure about the sheen but Jim's advice was on point. We selected lustre finish and the house turned out great. I don't have the painter's name but he and the small crew did a great job. Very happy with the results.

Would definitely hire Emerald again and Jim is fantastic to work with.

Todd and Jim are the coolest roofers ever. I was on a tight schedule to get the roof leak repaired and they were truly a godsend. If you want your roof replaced / repaired you can call any roofer, but if you need a friend who is honest, works hard, and cares for your family & property and happens to know all about roofs, call Emerald State.

Winter 2020 the Seattle area was hit by storm after storm with Covid ongoing. Every roofer told me to wait 8 weeks, or replace the entire roof, or simply try someone else. Jim came over the next day and the crew completed the work a week later.

Jim is extremely knowledgeable and efficient. He quickly identified the problem after flying the drone over my roof for a few minutes. He is super honest with all my options.

The day the crew came, we were just hit with another storm the night before, with fallen branches everywhere and 500,000 households lost their power. One crew member's house was hit by a fallen tree - but he made fixing my roof his priority.

Emerald State replaced our roof during the pandemic. They were reliable, worked hard, showed excellent communication skills and installed a product we are very pleased with. We would definitely recommend them! Excellent value!

We recently bought a new house that needed to have the roof replaced. The previous owner took bids and decided on Emerald State for the job. When we took ownership, we decided to have them take the job and start the work. The initial roofing process went smoothly and the work was done quickly and the new roof looked great. The only thing that wasn't done during the initial work was the skylight, which ended up being a custom size that needed to be ordered. Because of COVID lockdowns and supply chain problems, we ended up waiting months for the skylight supplier to get glass from their supplier. In the meanwhile the old skylight started to leak. I was frustrated, but I talked with Todd to consider alternate options and we decided to reframe the skylight so that a standard size would fit. The crew came out and in one morning, they had the new frame built and the new skylight installed. Emerald State also took care of the drywall damage caused by the leaking skylight.

There was some communication confusion because the contract had started with the previous owner and finished with me, but Jim and Todd were always available for questions and I really appreciated that. At the end of the day, I'm happy with the roof and the work that was done. I plan on working with them again to repair and replace some of the windows in my house. I believe the work was done well and the final price was very reasonable for the work that we had done. Finally, most importantly, I really got the sense that Todd and Jim were on my side with this project even through some of the hiccups along the way. One last thing, I appreciated the lead on the job too, he really cared about doing things right - so shout out to Heaver.

There are so many choices for a roofing company. We reached out to a few of them and Jim was the first one to contact us. He is very personable and took time to explain to us about different materials, pricing, time to complete. He came across as trustworthy. While we did check the other quotes, which were relatively lower, we went with Emerald state. As mentioned, the roofers led by Heaver were there at the said time. Heaver answered all the questions I had. They did a very professional job and cleaned up the place really well. All in all, I was super happy with how the roof turned out and Kudos to Jim, Heaver and team for a great job. I will definitely recommend them to my friends.

After 30 plus years, I needed a roof, gutters, paint and siding. I got some bids and Emerald State LLC came in slightly below the other ones. The construction manager Jim O. really sold it well. I felt confident that they would do a good job. I've seen Emerald State doing work in my neighborhood for years. Their reviews were very good.
The roof turned out great, lots of new innovative techniques in flashing and ventilation that I haven't seen before. The roofing crew was excellent and they were great workers. They were done in four days. I did a complete tear off and put on a 50 year Certainteed shingle.
I went with the Hardie siding and 4" trim around the windows. It also was beyond what I expected. The crew was helpful, professional, and the whole job looks great. I went with the siding in its natural state and chose to have it painted. More color options. In order to uphold the Hardie warranty, I had to install 1/2" plywood on the house. Unexpected, but I was told beforehand that I may have to do this. I didn't have to replace the plywood on the roof. It was still in good shape. The siding was a big job and took about 7 days.
The paint crew did a fantastic job, great workers and fast. There was excellent follow-up on trim and every detail gone over carefully. I was monitoring all the crews and all of my concerns were addressed in a timely manner. It really helps to be there and watch the progress. On jobs this big there will always be slight miscommunications, but the Emerald State crews stepped up and got everything perfect.
The gutter crew showed up and had that job done in 3 hours. They matched the trim perfect. On inspection: the gutters had extra bracing. Way better than my old ones.
All in all, my wife and I are very happy with the work performed by Emerald State and we would recommend them.

Short version - their salesperson no call / no showed twice.

I was referred to Emerald State for a new skylight installation bid by Homeadvisor.
An operator from the company called me to schedule an appointment for a salesperson to come out for a Friday afternoon. 2 hours before the appointment, they called me directly and asked me to reschedule as the salesperson was far away. The salesperson was adamant that it would be better if we rescheduled, but the proposed time was on my partner's birthday.
I worked with my partner and ended up capitulating and called the salesperson back to confirm they could reschedule for the next day. The salesperson then no call / no showed for the appointment. They did not answer their work phone when I called them shortly after the appointment.
I contacted their office 5 days later and let an operator know about the issue (cordially, I might add - I know that nobody likes to work with a grumpy customer even if they are right) and they said they'd have another salesperson call us right back to set something up. I never received a call back from anyone.

Whether this is a breakdown in the company's organization or a result of the current pandemic, it's wholly unprofessional. They were given two easy chances to get some work (or, if they didn't want it, to just tell that's the case) and failed completely in both opportunities.

I am a realtor and my client used Emerald State to install a new roof and new siding prior to listing their home. Todd was amazing to work with! He kept me in the loop on when the roof and siding was going to be done so we knew when we could schedule photos. He went above and beyond for my clients to get the work done so they could list on time. I paid for a pre-inspection for my clients and the inspector said the job was done very well without me even asking him. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Todd and Emerald State to anyone!

Update #2 - they did make our last job right so we tried them again and they went above and beyond. I now highly recommend them

Update: They are working with us so I'm raising my 1 star to 3, but clear contract and communication during the job are still my recommendations.

GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING. There is a complete disconnect between the person who comes out and gives you a quote and the people who show up to do the work.

If we hadn't been home to project manage this ourselves, it would have cost them money to come out and fix what wouldn't have happened with our solar tube and skylights. My husband had to do half the job on the solar tube and quickly so they could close up the hole before the rain came. We also had to tell them this was part of the job.

There was a family emergency on their part which made them have to push out the job. We completely understand that, but no one knew they didn't show up and it took a while to find out when they would be back. Nothing happened in the time they told us it would happen, which we understand due to emergency, however no one communicated with us before no one showed up. This is a very loud process and you have to make plans to work around that, it's impossible if you don't know when to expect them.

The sales person said it could be done in a couple days. Even if they had come on time, that was not physically possible considering the size of the job. This is also mid-COVID, so understand the world is not normal. If they'd had a project management side to this, communication would have made this MUCH better.

The lead they had working on this was a great person and I believe the dropped ball is with 'the home office'.

Now they are telling us that the gutters that are on our contract are not included and want us to work directly with the gutter installer, which sounds like it will be in the neighborhood of another $5K. Because we believed gutters were included, we were fine with them not being very careful around them. Now, we *have* to replace them due to the damage.

We were sold a bill of goods by a very good salesman and now reality is setting in. They represented themselves as a company that has it's own crews, but our experience makes us think that is not the case.

My advice is GET IT IN WRITING and make sure it is very plainly written so there can be no side stepping later and ask for a project manager or GC to manage the install so you don't have to.

These guys were fast and fair. Jim is an absolute stand up guy and worked with us through the entire process. Made sure we thought everything was fair and really made sure we understood what was happening.

Honestly Jim was what won the bid. He responded within minutes all through the process and even helped me understand what had happened with the leak(why we needed a roof).

The roof we got seems tight and secure. Ill be recommending them to my father-in-law & mother-in-law.

Emerald State replaced my roof, windows, siding, and painted the house. The work was efficient and professional. Employees were prompt and friendly. I've recommended them to my friends who were looking to have their windows replaced.

In preparation for selling my house in October, found on inspection that I needed a new roof and gutters before listing. Emerald State was one of the contractors I contacted for bids. The owner came out, was sympathetic to my timing issue, and adjusted the work schedule so that his crew could come out the following week to replace the roof and gutters. Work crew was efficient, worked very hard each day, and never left w/o making sure the exterior house/yard was cleaned up of any roofing debris before they left (often well passed regular quitting time), and I was alerted to a few additional repair tasks which they did w/o delay. Price was very reasonable given all the materials, the amount of work and long hours to get the job done to meet my time schedule; I was thrilled and amazed that the entire job was completed within 4 days. Before, during, and subsequent to the job, the owner was friendly, courteous, and very responsive via text and/or e-mail. Emerald State does excellent work, uses quality materials (got a 50-yr warranted roof), and gets the job done in record time. I would use them again without hesitation, and recommend them to anyone seeking new roofing or gutters.

Very high quality company and reasonable pricing. They handled over 10 roofs in our neighborhood and did an amazing job. Most homes in our area 15-20 years old were made with cheap products. When the time comes, replace your roof with a 50 year product from Emerald State and never think about it again. They also paint houses and I will be doing that this Summer as I have had such a good experience with them.

These guys are fantastic, top notch all the way from start to finish. My project included 2 separate roofs, the house and a large detached garage.
The house is an open cathedral ceiling that had a good deal of structural damage developed over 40 plus years. Hever was the talent leading the crew. I highly recommend this man. He's a professional all the way and really knows his stuff. An excellent carpenter and framer no doubt. I was really impressed. So yeah, it was more involved than your typical tear off and replace. They did an incredible job that also included a new skylight. The garage was more or less a typical tear off and replace and they did that in the blink of an eye.Oh and the clean up was great. They do a thorough job. I couldn't be happier. Todd has himself a top notch local business for sure. I'm glad Jim sold me on their business. Speaking of Jim, the man is like comfort food. He believes in their company and it really shows. He's both confident and enthusiastic, but here's the real clincher... he is an excellent communicator who always responds to customers right away. Do yourself a favor and hire these guys, they are the best.

Excellent crew, clean up the old roof everyday. Jim responds questions very fast and is willing to do extras to please the customers. Our neighbors like the new roof very much.

We decided to go with Emerald State LLC and were extremely surprised at how smoothly the project progressed. The roofing crew worked every day tirelessly and without taking any breaks! The project was completed within the promised time, and the work area was cleaned EVERY day. We used Emerald State to replace old cedar shake roof with Certainteed Presidential TL asphalt shingles.

We collected 5 bids. Todd (Emerald State owner) worked with us and offered the best price and 5-Star Coverage. Good workmanship & good communication. Crew worked fast and finished on time/ahead of schedule, the yard was picked up and cleared of most debris and nails and the roof looked great! I can't say enough good things about Todd and his crew. New roof looking great!!!

HORRILBE, do yourself a big favor and stay away:
Be very careful, he will ask you to pay the full amount before the material company receives their money and release a lien on your house. He claims that to be a standard operating procedure. The material company will deliver the materials to your house making you liable to cover the cost and in case that “Emerald State Exteriors” does not pay them, which means that you may end up paying twice. This is very dishonest way of doing business.

I never saw him during the job was being done, he only showed up afterwards to collect the money.

His crew are inexperienced and made a very obvious mistake in shingle layout, he refused to fix and even after I had an unbiased 3rd party looking at the roof and identified the mistake as very obvious, and before I had to point it out to them.

Todd Sinicrope was very nice up until he got the job, since then he was extremely condescending and disrespectful in his communication style, and the minute he got the job.

Emerald State did a complete roof replacement for us. The crew did an excellent job with the installation and the clean up. They were professional, efficient and polite. They even finished ahead of schedule. We were very impressed with how the job turned out. A friend, who is in the construction business even said that they did a great job. The price was also very competitive and reasonable. Todd was easy to communicate with. We would definitely recommend them and would use them again.
