Lizzy is a go to for all our contractor needs both large and small. It started with trim and siding repairs from storm damage then we bit the bullet and had them replace the siding. They weren't the most expensive and not the cheapest. But delivered on time. We then used them to update our hideous mantel and got a custom mantle and tile all the way up. Its beautiful. If you need a contractor in Williamsburg we recommend them highly. We referred them to friends and they got a beautiful deck out of the deal.

Was recommended by a friend who had Richard Dudley build a home for them over 25 years ago. Our friend is still thrilled with the quality and their home. We interviewed several local builders and selected Dudley Construction. Building a home can be stressful, but they were honest, helpful and built us a home we are proud of

This is a typical SE Virginia business built on nepotism and backdoor deals. They work in conjunction with shady realtors who will gladly steal money from your deal. I wouldn't trust this contractor to build a shed. If you're ready to go on a Mr. Toad's wild ride of questional business practices, cheaping out at every turn, and an outright vacuum of creativity, you're in the right place. The grading business is run by Mr. Dudley's son, and they are flatly incompetent, turning home sites into swamps. The rest of the subcontracted people are either family members or friends of family members and that's how the business turns a profit -- by sharing good pricing with each other. It's not a case where subcontractors are selected on the basis of skill and experience. The electrical and plumbing subcontractors employed by Dudley were actually pretty good, but the grading, tiling, and paint work subs were just ridiculous. I have run into other people in the area who have had similar experiences, so I know it's not just me. The Dudley team is more suited to used car sales, and that's what a Dudley home feels like in the end...a 1993 Buick with a leaking head gasket wiped clean. AVOID.

We moved to a new, to us, home in Yorktown in late 2016.  It didn’t take long to to realize we had a drainage problem.  After hard rains we would have a pond in our backyard for weeks. Birds liked it for bathing but it was a haven for mosquitos, made a large section of the yard unusable and was near our foundation.

We asked three different companies to quote a solution.  One quoted a French drain near our foundation for a considerable amount of money.  Another looked things over, said he “would think about it” and was never heard from again.  Mr. Dudley viewed the area, immediately said he knew what had to be done and quoted.  It was considerably less than the French drain quote.

With the aid of a laser, Dudley Construction re-graded the affected section of the backyard toward the east side of our lot and south to the ditch adjacent to the road in front.  After very hard rains, any ponding is now gone in a few hours.  Problem solved. They also reseeded and followed up for several days afterward.

It is refreshing to do business with someone who is competent and does what they say. We highly recommend them.

Service questions
1. Should I stay home during roof replacement?
+-

It's not necessary to stay home during roof replacement. Roofing work is noisy and can cause vibrations inside the house, which might be uncomfortable. Most homeowners choose to leave during major parts of the project, but our team ensures safety and keeps you updated, whether you're home or not.

2. How long does roof replacement take?
+-

The timeline for a roof replacement typically ranges from one to three days, depending on the size and complexity of the roof, weather conditions, and material type. Larger or more intricate roofs may take a bit longer, but we always aim for efficient, timely completion.

3. How to hire a roofing contractor?
+-

To hire a roofing contractor, start by researching local companies with good reviews and proper licensing. Request quotes from multiple contractors, verify their insurance and certifications, and ask for references. Always ensure you get a written contract that outlines the scope of work, timeline, and payment terms.

4. How to check if a roofing company is legit?
+-

Check if a roofing company is legit by verifying their business license, insurance, and local certifications. Look for memberships in professional associations, read customer reviews, and ask for recent project references. A legitimate company will be transparent and provide all documentation upon request.

5. How to choose a roofing company?
+-

When choosing a roofing company, consider their experience, customer reviews, warranty offerings, and quality of materials. Make sure they provide clear communication, detailed estimates, and a solid portfolio of completed projects. Local expertise is also a major advantage for understanding regional roofing needs.

6. How do you know if your roofing contractor is ripping you off?
+-

Warning signs that your roofing contractor might be ripping you off include vague contracts, pressure to pay large upfront deposits, lack of proper documentation, and unexplained price increases. Always ask for itemized estimates and written guarantees, and avoid contractors who avoid answering your questions directly.
