We worked with Discovery Development Group on a full scale renovation and addition to our home in Charleston and had such a fantastic experience that we are now working with them again on another large high end project.

James also brings this level of organization to project planning and budgeting - his initial budget proposal was very accurate and true to our final result and he was very transparent and meticulous in his management of project finances.

Our project with Discovery included a full renovation of a 1960s home that had not been updated at all as well as a large addition and full landscape overhaul including a high end pool. The end result is a beautiful and incredibly well built luxury home that we our lucky to call our own.

We recently completed a 8 month renovation with James and his team at Discovery Development Group. James was outstanding in not only guiding us through our somewhat complex project (full gut of our first floor, with significant unknowns when we started), but also on delivering an outstanding end result. Our project was drawn out during the design phase by covid, and once we started, we encountered critical design decisions based on structural elements of the house. At each of these points, James's exceptional communication skills kept us in the loop, and bridged any gaps that arose. One particularly notable instance was when we encountered critical design decisions linked to the structural nuances of our house. James didn't just present us with options; he offered well-considered recommendations, blending his expertise with our vision seamlessly.

What truly set James and Discovery Development apart was their unwavering professionalism. For example, their handling of the subcontractors was exemplary, ensuring a cohesive and efficient workflow. This, paired with their transparent and regular communication, made a potentially stressful experience far more manageable.

We hired Discovery Development Group to build an apartment over our garage and we could not be happier with the construction process and results. We met with several contractors about this project, and it was apparent from our first consult that this was the best contractor for the job based upon the questions James asked and feedback he provided on our ideas. The entire process was easier than anticipated because of their professionalism, work ethic, and willingness to incorporate all of our design ideas into a small space. In addition, we were in a bit of a time crunch as we were expecting another child during the construction and needed the it complete prior to maternity leave ending so we would have office space. They started the construction process very quickly and the progress was amazing (biggest hold up of the entire project was city permitting). Discovery Development Group exceeded all timing expectations finishing the job in just over 3 months and even went above and beyond with material ordering to mitigate supply chain risks. James was extremely responsive and walked us through all aspects of the project in real time, which made the entire process run smoother than we had hoped. All the sub-contractors were very professional and hard working with work continuing into evenings and weekends when needed. They did an amazing job at following up and making sure the project was done right and we were satisfied. I have had several neighbors wanting to do a similar project after seeing our final product, and I have told all of them that they need to use Discovery Development Group if they want to see this level of quality in their project.

Big thank you to James and the rest of the team at Discovery Development Group for their professionalism, courtesy, and work ethic. This will be the only general contractor I use for any future projects, and I wish our house was constructed as well as our room over the garage. I hope to one day utilize their services to build a house for us in the future.

We hired Discovery Development Group to remodel our kitchen and couldn't be happier with the result. From the start, James was very organized and professional and laid out all the details. We have used James and his Discovery team twice! After being very pleased with a small scale renovation, we decided to hire him again for a much larger, near tear down renovation. Discovery takes their time to layout a clear idea of expenses and a timeline. If we had any concerns, they were quickly addressed. We so appreciated James’ honesty, transparency, and attention to detail!

I had an entire kitchen/laundry room and main living area remodel but Discovery Development. Let me say James was highly professional and employed the best contractors I have ever seen. Everyone of them were very skilled and I never had an issue with any of the work. He had a deadline of 8 weeks to make our space livable during supply chain issue when we returned and he met that deadline. This included 12 doors & windows on the backside of the house, refinishing & adding new hardwood flooring, appliances & kitchen cabinetry. His cabinet maker is the Best in Charleston by far! Painting, upstairs and outside & structure issues with leaking were thus completed in a timely manner. Could not have been happier with the results. Furthermore, my wife and I had James perform a complete "down to the studs" renovation of our individual condo unit, which turned out fantastic.

Custom building a home is never a small undertaking, as I humbly learned in my first project. After interviewing four buildings, I selected Discovery Development Group, which is owned and run by James. I treated the interview process for selecting a builder the same way I would go about hiring an executive in my own business. I had heard plenty of horror stories, and I knew it would take the better part of year from start to finish, so having someone who was "on my team" was very important.

Most people will talk about how amazing their house is, which James did a fantastic job building mine! It has been in a number of magazines and featured in a commercial for TV; his product speaks for itself. What you can't see when you look at a house are all the little things that are done by the builder. Everything from design input, to cost-effective ways to maximize your budget, to the human element. For me, the most important aspects of working with James were his patients, communication, organization, and execution.

My house has been built for over 8 months, and I still speak to James on a regular basis. Not because he still has an obligation to me, but because throughout the build process we opened up as individuals and became friends. He is a genuine friend to this day, and I am glad that our paths crossed. This will not be the only custom home I building, but James will be my only builder.

James and The Discovery Development Group completely renovated my downtown home and the results were unimaginable. They did everything from rebuilding my foundation on multiple levels as well as securing the foundation of the front of the residence to creating the fine details that define the residence.
