I made an appointment using their website to meet with them over a week ago. I took the day off from work and drove over an hour to be at the appointment, their office was closed. No one answered their phone nor did they reach out to me to cancel or reschedule the appointment.

UPDATE: I've changed my initial 1 star to 3 stars as the president of the company, Luke Roark, reached out to me personally to apologize for this incident. Apparently there was a glitch when I made the appointment and an option to meet in person (which was not supposed to be an option) caused the scheduling mishap. We have agreed to have another meeting and I will update this review accordingly over the next few weeks.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ "New house, Same address"

I like to think our project took place during an interesting time of transition and growth for Commonwealth Contractors as a company. Our time with them spanned roughly a year as opposed to the shortened timeline we had originally anticipated. Our project was not without its frustrations. We experienced a lot of turnover to Luke & David's core staff, missteps in filing permits, and also a myriad of changes to the subcontractors they used and entrusted. I do believe a lot of these difficulties stem from the aftermath of COVID and all the challenges it presented to the industry. I also believe a lot was due to Luke & David not only rerouting their ship, but reshaping their organization as a whole.

Does that sound like a five star review?
Well, actually, yes. It is.

Because despite these challenges and setbacks, I still can't give Luke and David anything less than five stars because our house is absolutely stunning. There is not a person that sees it who does not comment on how absolutely beautiful the transformation was. They took my vision and made it everything I wanted and more!

Not only was the final product amazing, but Luke and David are wonderful to work with. They were so patient and thorough in communication, and I was always greeted with a friendly face. They also remedied any mistakes without hesitation. For example, one of the subs they used had installed the stair stringers and I was unhappy with several parts of the installation. Instead of just fixing the immediate issues and working with what they had, they instead ripped it all out and built it again from scratch (and the result was perfect). Any time something looked off or done not to their specifications, it was quickly rectified no matter how costly or time consuming a fix would be.

Our project was completed over a year ago, but just a few months back David came by to check in and saw one of the gutters had an issue that caused part of it to peel outward. He quickly had his team come out and replace the entire section for us.

Frustrations and setbacks on a project of this size is to be expected no matter who you hire, but I truly believe Luke and David have built a company that will deliver nothing less than world-class results. We will love and enjoy every inch of this beautiful home for many years to come, and it would not have been possible without them.

Luke and the Commonwealth team went above and beyond to help me with an issue from a contractor I hired years ago. Even though they won't be taking on my job, they spent their time and effort to guide me through the process. Great team and good people!

Luke Roark and the team at commonwealth made what a stressful decision for most easy. Thorough, top quality, accommodating to your needs, friendly, and professional are just a few words to describe my experience with them. Luke’s follow up was terrific and we will always keep them in mind for any project whether it’s the exterior of our home or interior. Grateful we chose them for our project!

Update 4/18/2023 Project closed as of March 25th after a year and 1 month of signing contract. A balance is still showing in builder trend app. President of company assures me that my final payment that was required was made in November 2023. So unless something changes on their end this is my final update on my review. Although being requested multiple times to remove my bad review this is my experiance and no refunded amount of money is going to change that. So no NDA will be signed.

Update on project : 2/22/24
Old wood that was originally used to build the eaves on my back porch has since been taken down and replaced with new lumber still have a few things yet to be addressed with just over a year on this project. I will update when contractor says he's finished.

Details to come still working with this contractor to get my work completed, coming up on a year next month. All monies paid and still have a rotted rafter among other aspects that they have yet to actually complete. Very little bad weather during the past year and for a job that was quoted to take less than a month to complete and they have verbally given me multiple days of completion. Yet I still am waiting. Don't get your self tied up with these people. If you do make sure you get everything in writing down to the final screw. Verbal agreements mean nothing to them. I have waited to post this till job is complete but feel bad for people getting entangled with them in the mean time.
RESPONSE: Why would I post as another person then myself also discount was for items that your crew damaged and or pulled from my home and damaged when they used them without permission. Along with the fact that the previous crew was drinking on the job. The mentioned additional work that was recently done was a verbal agreement from the president of the company (hence doesn't keep his word) Old wood was used to do this additional work so I feel company didn't lose anything but less 1/4 inch boards to take to the dump. Also the crew that did "additional work" used my A/C unit as a saw horse this guy will talk his way out of anything be forewarned and see the type of person that you could be dealing with. I did use a audio recorder after several issues and inconsistences. I didn't pay my hard earned money to have a company screw me over even though that is what is going on.

These guys do subpar work but threaten to sue you when you leave an honest, telling review. Well, they do subpar work. And if you're honest about that, as I am being, they have an attorney who reaches out to bully you. It's the reason you can't find bad reviews on google. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY. We paid them to show up, but then they bailed and gave no estimate. Good luck with these guys.

The team did a great job on our bathroom renovation.

Commonwealth Contractors was the first company to reach back to us when we needed a bathroom and ceiling repair. I found it convenient to schedule the on-site consultation completely online to start to process.

The app that is used during the entire process was really helpful to keep track of what work is being done, what work has been completed, make payments, communicate, and also notifies the customers for any input when needed.

There were some issues and questions that I had during the installation/work process, but everything was resolved professionally and quickly. The team communicated well and ensured that everything was done right.

We recently had the privilege of using Commonwealth Contractors for a minor problem at our house with a beam in our attic that was in the way of our woodstove chimney being replaced/installed. We called around the holidays and were impressed with the promptness, dedication and professionalism by Luke and his crew. Although our problem was not completed until after the holidays - no fault whatsoever of Commonwealth Contractors - the delay was due to the other business party we were dealing with, they came out and aided the completion of the job in one day.
We look forward to doing business with and will definitely use Commonwealth Contractors again and again and again.......Bill and Deb Kruse

Luke was very responsive and professional. He was very helpful in every steps of the building progress. We asked them to build a rear deck and the work is fantastic. They are very dedicated, considerate and even go above and beyond. They brought our design vision to light (figuratively and literally)! Their attention to details is great and I would highly recommend them for your next renovation or new construction. Thank you so much for your great work!!

Luke and Antoine from Commonwealth contractors came out on time within a week of me calling them to do a measurements for an outdoor deck expansion. They also reached out to the city and obtained a survey plan and contacted the appropriate utilities to mark their lines prior to starting work. Will update this review once the work is completed but so far they have been very professional, responsive and timely and deserve a five-star review which is unfortunately very uncommon in the contracting business.

We were looking for someone to repair our 27 year old deck with a ramp. We had several contractors come out to look at the deck. Each pointed out a simple repair job. We were not satisfied and contacted Commonwealth Contractors. Luke answered the phone and after explaining our problem he said someone would come that afternoon. Anteneh showed up that evening. He explained who they were and their mission as contractors. He examined the entire deck upper and lower and concluded the deck should be replaced. This was something my sister and I had discussed and we felt he was on the right track. We explained we wanted the same plans for rebuilding the deck as the original. They explained current building codes but that they would talk to the city to see if they would approve the original plans. We were excited they were able to get the city to grandfather us in. The guys introduced Edward who would be in charge of the project. The deck and ramp went up smoothly and we are so happy with the results. These young guys were polite, professional and knew their job. The finally product is beautiful. The whole while they explained every stage of the building. They really wanted to make sure we were happy with their work. We are more than happy. Luke noticed we had put up a portable gate to keep our Yorkie from escaping. He suggested a built on gate. That will be coming soon. In the spring when they stain the deck we will also have them put pavers on the bottom patio area. We highly recommend Commonwealth Contractors if you are in need of a deck. Professional, respectful, informative and willing to go the extra mile. Thank you Commonwealth Contractors !

We hired Luke (at Commonwealth) to pull out some old hardwood, tile and laminate floors and replace them with new hardwood. Except it wasn't that simple.

The upshot . . . Luke's team was very communicative, honest and upfront with us about everything, dealt with a crazy situation in a way that made things far smoother for us, and did very high quality work. With them you are getting a company that cares about the quality of their work product and the customers they serve.

The details . . . We only decided to replace all of the downstairs floors because we needed some joist repair work done in one room, and the contractor we hired for that job needed the existing floor removed to do the work. Luke's team worked around the schedule of the other contractor, and was flexible in doing so.

After the other contractor finished its work, Luke's team came in to put the new floors down. But, they discovered extensive damage to a primary support beam in the middle of the house that should have been discovered by the other contractor. Sparing further detail, this created the need for more work (that would be both substantial and expensive).

Luke sprang into action--I cannot tell you how many mountains they moved to get the new work done quickly and on a reasonable budget. They were literally calling around all weekend to find a truly massive beam, dry and ready for install, that could be transported to a mill nearby to be ripped to the odd dimensions of the old beam in our 1920 home. They brought in a different crew than the flooring one, built a false wall to support the house, and got the massive new beam in place quickly and safely. It was a major undertaking. It could have, and probably should have panicked us. But Luke was great. He and others at the company were very mindful of how the ordeal was likely affecting us. They worked around us, offered various forms of assistance to make our lives easier, were considerate of the pets, dust, noise, etc.

The work product looks great. We love the finished look of the new hickory floors--which flow seamlessly through many rooms and a narrow hallway. But I'm most pleased by the fact that Luke and company made sure that our home is safe. You can't beat that peace of mind.

Luke has followed up with us a couple of time since the job. He cares that we're happy with it.

Hire a company that cares about its work and cares about you. I totally recommend Commonwealth.

Service questions
1. Should I stay home during roof replacement?

It's not necessary to stay home during roof replacement. Roofing work is noisy and can cause vibrations inside the house, which might be uncomfortable. Most homeowners choose to leave during major parts of the project, but our team ensures safety and keeps you updated, whether you're home or not.

2. How long does roof replacement take?
+-

The timeline for a roof replacement typically ranges from one to three days, depending on the size and complexity of the roof, weather conditions, and material type. Larger or more intricate roofs may take a bit longer, but we always aim for efficient, timely completion.

3. How to hire a roofing contractor?
+-

To hire a roofing contractor, start by researching local companies with good reviews and proper licensing. Request quotes from multiple contractors, verify their insurance and certifications, and ask for references. Always ensure you get a written contract that outlines the scope of work, timeline, and payment terms.

4. How to check if a roofing company is legit?
+-

Check if a roofing company is legit by verifying their business license, insurance, and local certifications. Look for memberships in professional associations, read customer reviews, and ask for recent project references. A legitimate company will be transparent and provide all documentation upon request.

5. How to choose a roofing company?
+-

When choosing a roofing company, consider their experience, customer reviews, warranty offerings, and quality of materials. Make sure they provide clear communication, detailed estimates, and a solid portfolio of completed projects. Local expertise is also a major advantage for understanding regional roofing needs.

6. How do you know if your roofing contractor is ripping you off?
+-

Warning signs that your roofing contractor might be ripping you off include vague contracts, pressure to pay large upfront deposits, lack of proper documentation, and unexplained price increases. Always ask for itemized estimates and written guarantees, and avoid contractors who avoid answering your questions directly.
